I think dinner here was probably the highlight of our trip!~ We started off with the Proscuitto wrapped shrimp and scallops, they were good, but there were only two shrimp and two scallops. I think we would have been a little happier with something we could've shared evenly with the three of us. The entree's on the other hand were all awesome! We had: 14oz Pan Roasted Rib Eye - (mine) Yum, really tender, great seasoning served over wild mushrooms and had a slightly melted strip of fontina valdostana atop! Fetachini Alfredo - add shrimp and chicken! I'm not sure what it was that was different, but their Alfredo sauce was awesome! Seafood Del Pescatore - I've never had this before, but it was delicious, the sauce was great, and it was loaded with tons of seafood! - Linguini, clams, mussels, calamari, prawns, toasted garlic, tomato sauce, basil My friend got a cappuccino to end our visit, it was served with a crystallized sugar stick, and even though its not generally my drink it was probably the best cappuccino I've tasted. read more

I really liked the ambiance, decor, and food. It turns out you really should make reservations or you won't get in because everyone else also saw the reviews saying it is Top 10 in the US for Italian food. That said, we were able to get in at the bar and had a yummy Mule while waiting. Bartender served and everyone is busy. I had Lasanga which was very tasty but so much cheese and high-quality meats that it was a bit oily...but wait....the next day I warmed up the other half and it was even better. Thats how you can tell good Italian food, it is the only food that tastes even better reheated. My daughter had the Mushroom Ravioli and loved it. Worth trying if you like Italian food. One of the better Italian joints in town. Great quality food w/ great prices. Thought the prices would be a bit inflated because of its hotel location, but the dishes were very affordable. With our menu consisting of the mushroom ravioli appetizer, clam linguine, seafood linguine (red sauce) and the tiramisu, we were very pleased with our dining experience. The clam and seafood linguine ($20 and $22 respectively) were lightly seasoned but still flavorful (as most Italian dishes should be) and were generous in portions. I probably had about 50 clams in my dish and the seafood linguine was just as chunky (lots of clams, mussels, HUGE scallops, and calamari). I was seriously doubting I would finish my dish, but I did; I also seriously doubted I had room for dessert, but I guess I was enamored enough that I just had to have dessert. Topped off the meal with some yummy tiramisu paired w/ coffee ice cream. It was a great way to the end the meal. Props to the fabulous maitre d' (I wish I got his name). First, the hostess led us to the very BACK of the building, past many empty tables in the quieter front part of the restaurant. She seated us right next to two tables of horrifically loud and obnoxious old folks who were tipsy on wine and shouting/cackling at each other. Lovely, how romantic! The few who were seated up front were dressed a little fancier than us...could that have been it? She tried to do this to another couple and they said no way, so they got seated up front where it's darker and quieter. Why didn't we do that? The spinach & arugula salad with fresh raspberries was delicious, but our entrees took ages to arrive, despite the place being mostly empty. My salmon was unexceptional, served atop vegetables which were swimming in nearly half an inch of oil. Sorry, but I don't think this is "northern Italian cuisine." $25 for that. My partner had the lamb chops, which were good but also drenched in oil, as were all the veggies on his plate. Can't remember the cost of that but I'm sure it was close to $30. Why all the oil?? We've been to several highly-rated Italian restaurants and none of them were as oil-happy as this. The food wasn't terrible, just...unimpressive. Just how this place got to be rated "Best in Reno" for Italian food is beyond me. Maybe we should have tried the pasta instead... The waitress was very friendly though, and comped some of our wine because we were seated right next to such rowdy, noisy people. We didn't stay for dessert, just wanted to get out of there. I was in Reno for work last week and we had a group dinner (8) on Friday night at La Strada. Our colleague made the reservation, so I had no idea what to expect. As work dinners go, they are hit and miss and you never know where you may end up. We got so lucky at this awesome place in the El Dorado. First, they seated us right on time. Doesn't seem important, but when you are with your clients, it is. Our server was just amazing. I am so sad I cannot remember his name to give him a personal shout out. He told us he ended up in Reno, from California -- as we are too -- to ski. "A ski bum" was his exact moniker. He was knowledgeable about the wine and all the menu items, including how they were cooked, and he made great recommendations. We ordered salads, and anti pasto plate and I had the swordfish special for dinner. The fish was cooked perfectly and it was done piccata style with capers (love anything with capers) and lemon sauce. It came with polenta, which was hardly noticeable because the piece of fish was so freakin huge! I was torn between the swordfish and the fresh, made in-house, pasta. My colleague ordered the mushroom ravioli and shared one. I could have married that ravioli, it was so good. But it would likely be too rich for a full meal. Great to share. The only negative thing I can say is that the gelato we ordered for dessert was just okay. I got the vanilla with espresso to pour over the top. I am from Sacramento and there is restaurant here that does this way better. Italian places always have a high bar for me and this one blew it away. read more

I visited with my wife; seating was prompt, and our waiter was quick to take our order. However, our waiter neglected to tell us about the day's special (we overheard him talking excitedly about it to other tables nearby... A shame, as the shrimp and squid scampi dish sounded amazing at nine feet away). While waiting for our food to arrive from the kitchen, several other tables that ordered (significantly) after us had their entrees arrive ~10 minutes earlier than ours (we only ordered relatively simple pasta dishes). Now for the food - it arrived about 50 minutes after ordering. My meat ravioli was overcooked (the pasta was all stuck together and crumbled at the touch of my fork), and had as much salt as the average rim of a margarita glass elsewhere in the casino. My wife's Fettuccine La Strada was even more overcooked and colder than my ravioli (though not quite cold). However, the taste was better, with crab, shrimp, and spinach. The bread basket that was provided at the time we placed our order was cold by the time our food came, even with the napkin wrapped around it in an attempt to preserve its warmth. We never had a chance to let our server know how the food was until we were both finished eating. We saw him servicing his other seven tables repeatedly, making dessert suggestions, and even returning a paid bill for the couple who sat down ten minutes after us, before he stopped at our table. One shining point was the water service - my water was refilled no fewer than seven times (the ravioli was so salty - but by the time it came I was famished)... pretty much the only good point of the evening. In fact, we had to ask the water attendant if we could speak to our waiter, since he had not even made eye contact with us in the twenty-five or so preceding minutes (since he set our food down). After discussing our displeasure with our waiter, he seemed shocked, and offered us dessert for free. We declined, saying that we really just wanted to put the whole dining experience at La Strada behind us, at which point he told us that he'd comp our meal for us. We thanked him, and left. In summary, I recommend giving this restaurant a miss. It was the worst service I've had in years, and the worst food I've had at a restauraunt since I stopped eating at Taco Bell in college. read more

Our first visit to La Strada. My husband and I tried the tasting menu. The tasting menu consist of a four course menu consisting of a salad, pasta, main entree (surf and turf) and a dessert. Each course is chef's choice and a complete surprise. You can let your waitress know if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions. My husband and I are fortunate and do not have any food allergies. I dont care for lamb so I requested to not have lamb. The tasting menu was $44 per person. Each course was on the smaller side. Each course by itself is not enough to fill you up but combined its the perfect size to fill you up by the end of the 4th course. Service was great. $44 a person is great price for the tasting menu. We enjoyed each course. The only negative review I have concerning the restaurant was the noise level. read more

What a charming little place!! My husband and I were in Reno this weekend for a Country Dance Party. When trying to figure out where to dine Saturday night- we both knew we wanted Italian or Mexican. Since we were staying at Circus Circus & the dance party was at Silver Legacy- we just wanted something close. This was a wonderful place! The Maitre'D sat us immediately and could not say enough about his recommendations and urged us to try their signature mushroom raviolis. My husband and I ordered the appetizer portion to share- it was fabulous! Did not disappoint at all. My husband also had a Hearts of Romaine salad. Then for our entrees I had the fettuccine Alfredo- which was delicious and he had the Risotto di Mare and he enjoyed it thoroughly. He said it was loaded with seafood and neither of us could finish our meals- we ate about half. Now part of that could be all the bread we ate first- which was a wonderful basket of selections with olive oil/balsamic vinegar. They had a pretty extensive wine list- since I was the only one having wine- I tried a glass of Merlot from their own cellars and it was also very good. We sadly had to pass on dessert- we were both stuffed and had to go dance for hours...I would highly recommend this place and I didn't think the prices were too bad either. La Strada - Chefs Choice "Trust Me" tasting is perfection! - Italian Near Me - Reno, Nevada

Valentines Day dinner last night, we had a 5pm reservation so we could go to a show later; the restaurant was not crowded yet. Our server, Jeanette, was excellent, very polite, good service, but did not spontaneously offer any information about the menu choices. Wine list extensive, our choice was nicely served. Mushroom ravioli appetizer - to die for. Highly recommended. Caesar salad had a well balanced sauce, lovely white anchovy filets. Delicious, but not made at tableside. Spaghetti carbonara - the sauce was delicious, but the pasta was really pushing al dente, not quite done enough to serve in our opinion. Some noodles were still a bit raw inside. Pappardelle Bolognese - Almost inedible. It appeared the pasta was cooked and then sat on a plate until the sauce was added later. The noodles were congealed into a lump that was hard to separate and were tough. The sauce was too salty to enjoy and tasted overwhelmingly of canned tomato paste. It was unusually dark (the tomato paste) and too thick so that it was hard to attempt to rectify the pasta by stirring the two up. Chocolate almond Torta for desert - delicious! It was getting pretty busy by this time. A gentleman came by and offered to clear the plates (maitre d'?}. We requested a doggy bag, having been unable to eat most of the pasta we actually thought our dog would make the best of it. When Jeanette came back with coffee (very good) and the check we discovered a gap in communication, our leftovers had been tossed. To her credit, she offered to have the kitchen make us an order of pasta to take home Definitely she had a great customer first attitude, but Jeanette couldn't make up for the failings of the kitchen to salvage our Valentine's day dinner. read more

Wow! I am surprised this place was as good as it was. All homemade pasta, which is what I should have had, silly me. I was craving shellfish so I ordered the mussels and clams. They were tasty but the broth was so spicy I couldn't spoon it up like soup, which I do because I am that weird. Anyway, if they dialed down the chili flake by about 50% it would be perfect. Living in an ocean front community I have had my share of steamers, let the shellfish, wine, butter and herbs sing their song, don't spice the hell out of it. Hubby had the pappardelle with bolognese. OMG, it was divine. I should have had that. He graciously shared with me, and I with my shellfish in hell broth with him. He loves spicy food, and he concurred the broth was way to spicy. It was my birthday and so they brought out dessert and sung Happy Birthday in Italian, which was really sweet. I was so disappointed we waited yesterday for dinner before heading back home. Place is very clean and host was informative although we ended with a new waiter. He got all confused with our order and it took 40 minutes to get our salad. We had to ask what happen to the salad and he looked lost and then said oh yeah right coming up and that took another 15 minutes. Salad was good. Our pasta both noodles were uncooked, not even medium I mean uncooked. It was so hard and meat balls was so dry. They were good to try and replace the meal although it came almost the same just a little better but still uncooked. was very sad this place was my bff favorite place :( read more

Fancy, very fancy even the waiters and hosts wore suits. The wait was long but we had a bigger group(7). Some of the dishes were bland like the calamari- thank god for the tartar sauce. I tried the house special gnocchi and the ravioli. The gnocchi was good and the portions were too much. I'm not one to complain, but the gnocchi came out with 30 little dough balls instead of the usual 10 medium size balls I'm use to and was topped off with a spaghettio meat sauce. The ravioli was good it had a mushroom aftertaste. I really liked the service they provide here though. My waiter jae and his helper tony went above and beyond to satisfy our every need. Our water was refilled before we could even ask, and everyone at my table left in a food coma with leftovers. The garlic bread was a super plus! My husband and I came here with my parents who live in Reno. We went to the early seating for the dinner show. It's a dinner and show package which comes with a special menu dinner so this review is for that menu, not the regular dinner menu. The entire experience was lovely, from the food, ambiance, and service. Food - The restaurant is famous for their mushroom ravioli and it is to die for. I had heard from several people how good it was so my expectations were high and I wasn't dissappointed. I had the chicken saltiimbocca which was delicious. My husband had the steak. The portions for this menu are small which we liked. Great bread and the Tirimissu was amazing. Ambiance - I agree with another reviewer who described the ambiance as like a high end quality Vegas hotel. It was lovely, and CLEAN! Service - We can't say enough about the service. From the front desk to all the table staff. They were attentive without being intrusive. The floor manager came over to check on us. Overall, we felt very well taken care of. Also, we must mention that when we valet parked the car, my husband left his wallet and phone in the back seat and the attendant came running after us to give them to us. We really love this hotel. The staff is amazing. Everyone you encounter is pleasant from the janitor to the hotel manager. read more

Firstly, I absolutely loved the decorations that they have, the vibe was like sitting underneath the Italian stars and me and my bf got to sit in what seemed to replicate a brick wine cellar. Before we came, I had told the reservationist that we were there to celebrate our anniversary and our waitress surprised us with a delicious tiramisu cake at the end of our dinner and even had an elderly man sing an Italian song to us in front of everyone, it was very sweet! The food was fantastic, I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo but asked for shrimp instead of chicken and it was exquisite they also served us some bread with our meals. We asked to split the Caesar salad and they charged an extra $2.50 plating charge. I felt like they dressed the salad too soon, as it seemed soggy. La Strada did not dissapoint. the service, atmosphere, and food were great. I may sound simple, but their bread basket was delicious and seemed never ending. It had garlic bread, a regular roll to dip, and these delicious cheesey stick things. We ordered a bottle of wine and it paired perfectly with my mushroom ravioli (see every other review for how good the ravioli is). We ended dinner with a really well done cup of coffee. These folks know the definition of al dente! This was some of the best fettuccine Alfredo I've ever had. It's a simple dish, but surprisingly easy to mess up it seems. They cooked their pasta to al dente perfection, and the cream was rich and velvety without being overly heavy or rich. I still couldn't eat my entire bowl, but the portion size was ample! My husband's veal meatballs & spaghetti were also amazing, some of the best he's ever had he noted. The staff was incredibly attentive without being annoying in any way, and their wine selection was impressive to say the least. Try the house pinot griggio (I forget the winery name, Ferrari something, it's the featured wine) with their bread, some olive oil & balsamic for a sweet starter. We were too full for dessert, but if back in Reno we'll be back for sure. Prices were totally within reason for the caliber of food they served us. Our first dining experience at La Strada and we found it to be about average food quality. The service we received was excellent. The bread basket that everyone is raving about in so many reviews - basically plain garlic bread and some twisty bread sticks that taste like cheese-its. Good and tasty, but nothing spectacular or note-worthy. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that we got there in time to order from the early-bird menu. Even better for me, since the dish I really wanted, chicken Alfredo, was on the early bird menu, but wasn't on the regular menu. My husband really wanted to try the chef's choice 6-course menu for $44/person. When he ordered, he was told minimum of two needed to order. He was very disappointed in that, and it doesn't specify that on the menu at all. He changed his order to seafood linguine. The entrees on the early-bird menu included choice of Caesar salad or minestrone soup, but the regular priced entrees do not. Seafood linguini with white sauce was very soupy. Packed with seafood though. The chicken Alfredo was ok. The Alfredo sauce was only marginally better than jarred sauce, in my opinion. It was also very soupy and rather bland. Overall, the food was good, but not great. Honestly feel the quality and flavor at Olive Garden is better. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere is great. read more

My husband and I eat out a lot and I know what good food and good service should be like. The place was OK and two faux paus really made an impression on me. Bad impression. First, I ordered the Linguini and Seafood. It is one of my favorite dishes and I have eaten many versions from different restaurants. The menu states "prawns". What I got was shrimp. Plain, old medium-small shrimp. Definitely NOT Prawns! Plus, pasta was overcooked and a little mushy. And way too many mussels. Seriously. Needed more of the other seafood. While our server was attentive and good, the busboy reached over, right in front of us to gather plates instead of going around to the other side of the table. I admit it...I was prepared to be disappointed by this restaurant. Top 10 Italian Restaurants in the US? In NV? We weren't let down though. Everything was absolutely fabulous including the service. We started with Fritto Misto which was a heap of *perfectly* fried calamari with shrimp, zucchini, and asparagus. This was good enough that my zucchini-loathing husband actually loved even the zucchini! The bread basket included several types of bread...unfortunately for me none of them were plain white bread which is my preference for dipping into the excellent-quality balsamic vinegar and olive oil provided. The Caesar dressing is the real-deal. For entrees, we had the veal Marsala and an appetizer-size mushroom ravioli. Hands-down, the most perfectly prepared veal I've ever eaten. Even the vegetables were perfectly executed...a minor miracle these days. The mushroom ravioli--while excellent--were so rich I couldn't imagine eating an entire entree of them. The appetizer-portion with the salad were perfect. Coffee quality was excellent...even the decaf! Sambuca was perfectly warmed. But the true crown of the evening was the tiramisu. I've eaten tiramisu across the entire country and never, ever have I had one this good. While the entrees were on-par with what I expect from a good Italian place, the tiramisu so far exceeded my expectations that I may very well never be able to enjoy it any place else! (The only thing we didn't enjoy of the entire night was the coffee gelato...texture wasn't quite right.) read more

I was underwhelmed by the restaurant. Perhaps I would be more forgiving if signs did not tell me it was world class. First, it took several minutes for us waiting at the hostess table on a Wednesday night before we were addressed. Second, the hostess took a long time to come back and tell us there were no more tables available (it's a very small place from what I could tell). We were told we could sit at the bar next door (La Strada is in the ElDorado casino), and still order from the restaurant. They did not give us a waiter/waitress and the bartender was our waiter. He was nice but not familiar with the menu at all. We also had to move our own tables to accommodate our group of 5 people. Yes that's correct, I said we had to move our own tables. The food was good but certainly not world class. I think it's on par with an Olive Garden. I had shells with prosciutto and it was plain shells in cream sauce with small pieces of ham throughout. Nothing extravagant at all. I would suggest anyone who wants to eat here does so in the restaurant and not in the bar next door. I personally would not go back. read more

My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate an early valentines days and it was unforgettable! The hostess and chef catered to us and made us feel as if we were the only ones in the busy restaurant.
