I have mixed opinions about this place. I like the food/produce. But the staff...they all seem MISERABLE. They barely crack a smile. They look like they hate their jobs. One of the guys in the meat department got annoyed because I had to ask him to repeat what he was saying. He was wearing a face mask and mumbling. Speak up my boy! read more

How have I never been to this store? I didn't know what to expect walking in -- it's a very large store in a somewhat dodgy part of town. It's actually right around the corner from my gym, so I decided to hop in for a few things. When I walked in, the store was clean and bright, the staff kind and friendly, and lots of homemade foods with at least nine or ten salsas in the deli section. I have now been to the La Superior Mercado three times and have tried three of the salsas (all of them great), the queso fresco from the deli counter (best ever!), and let's not forget the rice pudding which is to die for. On my last visit, I realized they sell authentic mole (which I easily reconstituted with chicken broth). Well, I haven't had a truly good mole in many years, and this was so easy to make and so delicious -- reminded me of my trip to Mexico oh so many years ago when I first tried mole. And, I should mention, I found the prices for everything were very reasonable! Let's support more family-run stores like this one in Woodland. I will be a regular customer! read more

I visited the Woodland store on a busy Sunday afternoon. Very welcoming and clean at first glance. As I placed an order from the hot meal section, I ordered carnitas. The gentleman, Jorge, took the time to ask me what sections I preferred. Not a common trait to carry in comparison to other stores I have visited in my lifetime. The meat section staff were very helpful and the staff in the deli section were very polite and friendly. Couldn't find salted prunes and even though we're not able to locate them, Rubi offered exemplary service in trying to find them. Very easy to decide that a return trip is in the future. read more

YAY! FOUND A GREAT SPOT! When I moved back to Davis, CA I was looking for pan dulce place! Food is a spectacular way to get in touch with your culture. Luckily I remembered someone had recommended La Superior Mercados and decided to take a 20-minute drive to Woodland to check it out. This was WELL worth my time!!! Creating spectacular pan dulce memories is important to me to share with my kiddo. It did NOT disappoint. Their selection is vast and the colors are happy and designs beautiful. The smell when you open the glass doors hits the spot. Remember if you have never gotten pan dulce before, protocol is to grab a tray, grab a pair of tongs and select and place your picks on the tray. When you are done go to the counter to get them bagged and priced. They also have fresh flan options in the open fridge next to the pan! Sometimes they even have CHOCOLATE FLAN! You can buy slices or whole ones. They offer hot food which I am excited to try! I have purchased fresh produce from here. It's hard to find fresh hibiscus leaves for tea and they have them! I think a lot of people from other cultures come here too (like Indian, Pilipino etc). This is because it offers a variety of spices and fruits/vegetables you won't find at Safeway/Raley's etc. Corn husks are easy to find here for your tamal-making needs. I bought fresh tamal masa from them this past Christmas! It was fresh and delicious. They also have the BEST selection of pinatas! Especially the star ones if you are looking for that classic shape. 10/10 experience. read more

I came here to buy 4 pounds of chuck roast/ chuck roll, and I also needed beef broth so I asked a couple younger cashiers where I could find it and they were laughing and giggling to each other because they didn't understand what I was asking in English and they laughed again basically said go ask someone else. Love this store! When I lived in Davis, I went to this store quite frequently with my family to get groceries and backed goods. My favorite thing to get from here were the mini puerquitos. On top of that I always found the staff are to be very friendly and accommodating. I just go here for the pan dulce and some veggies. Pan dulce is fresh between 9:30-11am and 6ish pm. I always check if they are soft. When i buy the veggies i try to look for the most freshly ones. Besides that, everything is overpriced. Meats and most fruit are not fresh. read more

Oh my god. So disappointed. Decided to walk around this supermarket and saw they had a food court. Wanted to get a horchata to satisfy my cravings as well as my hunger. My BF and I ordered a pupusa, a gordita, buffalo wings, and a horchata. Total came out to $12 and it was the worst money we've ever spent. The meal was so greasy and tasted as if it's been out for days. My plastic knife was barely able to cut through it. Ugh.. This was the most disappointing food that I've ever tasted. Great place to come get fruits and veggies for my juicer & cilantro for my salsa, soups and rice dishes. I've purchased single stamps here as well. I went in to get some carne asada tacos and possibly more but the customer service at the hot food counter absolutely was horrible. I stood there 2-3 and watched workers in the back look and kept talking as if ignoring a customer was there. Then finally a young guy comes and asks my order. He said no carne asada was available in a very nonchalant manner. I then asked for 4 chicken tacos which he made my breaking off some chicken breasts from a cooked chicken. Walking across the front and plopping it on the hot grill. Tacos were dry and flavorless and had enough meat to feed a toddler!! So uncaring and unbothered was this staff, no wonder food was just sitting there. Never ever again will I recommend or return. I am part of the redevelopment of the Main st project and this taqueria is probably the worst I've been too. I recommend do not ever eat there!!!! read more

Nice place since it's the only big Mexican market around, marinated meat and fresh salsa is typically what I come here for. Wouldn't say it's amazing but definitely my favorite in the area. Staff is really nice and helpful, place is decently clean, but overall it's a bit pricey compared to what I'm used to. read more

Management really needs to read these reviews and find replacements. Customer service starts from the top and trickles down to the all the way to the bottom. Management is salty, checkers are stuck up and spend time talking to each other, rather than the customers. People who work in the panaderia are robotic, at that. They seem very forced to even say hi. Let's talk about the pan: Stale, filled with flies and dirty glass case. They need to fire current management and rehire and more importantly, retrain their staff; from the meat counter to the bread department to the deli and back to cashiers. I am currently 25 weeks pregnant.. since being pregnant I have had a hard time catching my breath having to wear a mask I have chorionic migraines and get really dizzy and and anxiety.. due to that I try to order a lot of my foods for pick up or delivery. I love this market. It is clear that the people who run La Superior are committed to high quality, cleanliness, and are driven by a love of food. Not only do they sell great produce, beautiful meats (they sell quail!), and spectacular baked goods, but they also have great prepared foods. Today I had lunch with a friend and had to share a photo of the wonderful fried fish I had. Served with lovely beans and rice. The fish was firm and fresh. The sides were delicious. I went here looking for some carne and pollo asada. Which they did have a variety, but I didn't end up buying some. Since it was during my lunch time, I decided that I was going to try out their little restaurant. I wanted some enchiladas, but the cashier/cook was lazy and highly recommended that I get the puposas. I was very disappointed I should have stood my ground about the enchiladas, but he seemed like he didn't want to make them. The pupas was not good at all. I mostly like will not get already made food. I do want to try their asada. I'll let you know when I do. read more

I'm not one to post reviews, good or bad, but I felt compelled to do so today. There were at least 4 in the food area but only one person serving customers. It took over 25 minutes for someone to acknowledge the growing line and there was zero urgency in taking care of customers orders. When they finally addressed me, they informed me the beans still had another half hour to go. Mind you that's unheard of for a Mexican market that serves breakfast food. When I asked if they sold fresh tortillas the young man conferred with some other people before affirming that they do. I ordered 2 dozen. He literally turns around without a word and disappears. 20 minutes later I turn and leave, and grab a bag of cold store tortillas. Over 40 minutes only to leave with a bag of cold tortillas. Terrible service. By the sounds of it once I relayed my experience, this is the norm here. On my thru woodland I will pick s better place next time to pick up food. This is the worst superior. I ordered Albondigas to go. I paid $9.99 for two albondigas and a not so full cup. The lady was so rude she was having a conversation with another employee about another employee. I don't think this is worth $9.99. The receipt didn't even say albondigas. Never ever again. Today I seen a post on Facebook that a young lady posted with a picture of a roach next to the pan dulce and it took me back to a horrible experience I had myself there. 3 years ago I was very much pregnant and was craving my favorite bread so I popped into La superior before I got on the bus because of my craving and I took 3 bites into my bread and there was a DEAD ROACH inside of the bread! I was so disgusted, sick to my stomach and started throwing up. I went back to the store to talk to the manager and he asked if I wanted another bread! I couldn't believe he asked if I wanted another bread! I wanted my damn money back not another ROACH bread! I got my money back and left in disgust.
