A wonderful little restaurant with personal service. Will definitely come back again.

I've been here for a drink before with a couple of coworkers. Today my family ordered food from here and we totally enjoyed what we got. I got the La Special and a Sweet & Sassy taco. We were shocked that they had a lamb burrito which my friend says he's eating in the morning. He ate his Nachos tonight. My son got the Mushroom Swiss Smash Burger and loved it a lot. He mentioned that the fries were really fresh and good. So we'll be back to try something else next time! read more

I am a lover of street tacos and like to try them wherever I go. I would give this place a B- overall. The chips and salsa were just so-so. I ordered the chorizo, Asada, and Barbacoa street tacos. Decide was rather slow for there only being 2 other tables occupied. Took about 7-8 minutes before they came to our table and took order, chips were stale and salsa was very bland with onion being the only flavor that I detected. Husband ordered a beef taco salad and said the beef was cold but had a good flavor. I had the shrimp chimichanga and was disappointed because it was very bland and tasteless(but hot). Things started out promising when the chips came out warm. The salsa is made on-site and is decent. There about 10 different Tacos, about the same for Burritos, and about 8 kinds of Chimis. Pretty broad selection of other things also. I had the Beef Chimi and my wife went for a Taco Salad, and opted to add the eatable bowl. She decided to have the Street Corn also. Have to say everything was oversized (read - enough for second meal, or at least a snack). The Taco Salad had minimal lettuce, and lots of meat and cheese. We stopped by this place before going out to Hollywood Amphitheater. The restaurant has construction going on during dinner time. The placed smelled like dirty mop water. The service was not bad. It did not seem many people are in but plenty of of carry outs going on. The food was just ok. I probably would never go back. The night ended with stomach problems. Lets start with the salsa, it was runny with no flavor. Queso was not to bad. The Kitchen sink burrito was greasy. The street corn quesadilla my wife couldn't even finish it. Came with a coworker to grab lunch. There were only 3 other people in the restaurant. Took over 10 minutes to get our order placed. When the food finally came it was lacking in quality and flavor. No complimentary chips and salsa and the prices were high. Will not be returning. read more

Pros: Service was good and friendly, drinks were quickly refilled. Salsa is pretty good and tastes freshly made Cons: So so greasy, I blotted my food with napkins to absorb the grease. The service was lousy. The server didn't speak English very well so it was difficult to communicate. We had to ask for water and silverware several times. it was a very long wait to get apps, drinks and food even though there was only 10 customers in the entire restaurant. We ordered happy hour margaritas @ $3.50 each, added flavors was an additional $0.75, however, when the bill came we were charged an additional $2 for added flavors. The food isn't very good! Ordered this place on Uber Eats since late night food options in the area are non-existent. I ordered the quesabirria with consomme and street corn. Overall the flavor of the food was pretty good but it was extremely greasy! The tacos were accompanied with a side of verde salsa, cilantro, & onions. The meat was cooked well and could have been seasoned a tad bit more. I was disappointed that they considered these to be birria tacos. I've had authentic birria in and know the consomme should be a broth...theirs was straight up grease! The street corn also had a good flavor but was very greasy as well! It's like they poured the leftover oil from the pan over the food before packing it up. If you're interested in ordering either of these items, just let them know to hold the grease next time. read more

The fact that I hadn't had this place until today is baffling! I swung by this place during my lunch break and boy was I happy to have done so. I ordered the shrimp taco on a soft flour tortilla which honestly was much better than I expected. It came with plenty shrimp that was flavorful and the other toppings complimented it very well. I also got the Birria tacos meal which was truly magnificent. You get exactly what you pay for good food and the service was great as well. Must try! read more

I was craving Mexican food while in town and found this place not far from my hotel in Maryland Heights. Outside of the restaurant was a taco truck that had street tacos, which I thought was a little odd, but I guess they are separate businesses even though the street tacos are on the menu. It is seat yourself, and it was about 8 mins before we were greeted and brought chips and salsa. Then our waiter came and took our drink order. I tried to ask about what was in the margarita, but there was a language barrier. We ordered queso, and it was NOT GOOD. It had a sweet taste almost like pineapple, I almost thought that it was cream cheese with pineapple added to cheese. It was thick, and the chips were thin and broke off in the cheese. Our food didn't take long to come out. My enchiladas were OK, I have had better and had worse. I will say that the enchilada sauce is spicy! So, if you can't tolerate spicy, then don't order these!! The beans and rice were plain, I usually like adding salsa to the beans and rice but the salsa wasn't very good either. The 2 people that ordered tacos thought there were just OK. The only one who really enjoyed their food was my daughter, who had the beef quesdilla. I tasted it and it was really good, greasy but good, great flavor. That is the only reason I gave the second star. No napkins were given to us with our meals, I had to ask for them and he brought out exactly 4 napkins which is how many people we had at our table! These were not thick napkins. I could have used at least 3 myself. So when I asked for more, the server seemed reluctant to bring more. He did eventually but only exactly 4 more, which is ridiculous!! The server was good about refilling our drinks though. But besides that an the quesdilla, I think I would have had a better experience at taco bell and cheaper. Almost$40 just for my daughter and I, not worth it. I came here on 03/05/25. My family and I walked in as the bartender/waiter seen us. She proceeded to keep talking to her guests at the bar as we stood there. Wondering if we help ourselves to a seat or wait out of respect. It took her a few to finally say "you can sit where you'd like". We sit down and wait for our menus as the whole has TWO people in it. Ask for chips and salsa, it's 3.50. Which is fine (never had to pay for chips and salsa). We look at the prices and they're definitely more than the other Mexican restaurants around. The first time I came here, we were very impressed with the food, chips and salsa, margaritas, and Service. We went with a couple who goes there all the time. The next time we went there the service was still good, but the margaritas tasted like Budget mix and cheap tequila. The chips were stale and the salsa was bland, but the service was good and my meal was good, but wife's was disappointing. They changed ownership and We still kept coming back but each time it seemed like things got worse originally their Mexican rice was the right color, but now it's green? The prices keep going up and the quality seems to go down. I think about going back but we have had so many disappointing evenings there and there are so many other Mexican restaurants in the area that we end up going somewhere else instead. read more

Great service, I sat at the bar to order take out. The other restaurants were chaotic because of Cinco De Maya but LA Taco was very organized and efficient. I got a warm greeting and help ordering from the list of specials. Everyone seemed to genuinely care. I was asked several times if I needed anything and had I been helped. Went during the lunch rush and they only had 2 servers and apparently one cook in the back. Food was stale. The hard taco was unchewable and the food took an hour to come out and we had to remind the waitress about our order. When we confronted our waitress she got really rude and defensive. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. We would visit weekly. I don't know what happened, but the last two times we visited, the food has been off. Our queso was the consistency of thick pudding and tasted like cheap Velveeta. We sent it back. Rice was incredibly salty and tortillas were doughy. Refried beans looked and tasted dry. TL:DR - Great neighborhood establishment that serves good enough Mexican food to not be bad. Friendly service with a homey interior, don't come expecting to get you're mind blown and you'll be fine. Just straight American Mexican good with friendly staff. I hate that my review is three stars, because three star places on yelp typically indicate a not so great place. But LA Taco Cantina is a perfect neighborhood establishment and I wouldn't mind coming and hanging out simply because it's a great local business. But in the grand scheme of restaurants, it's not going to blow you out of the water in any area, and it's not even above average in anything besides it's great hominess and charm. But we came in, on a random weekday afternoon. The door leads you into a bar which then opens up into a larger dining area that reminds me like the inside of a house built in the 80's with the tile floor, solid colored walls, and the stereotypical cheap white bathroom doors and wall trim. None of this is a bad thing, please don't get it twisted. The waitress was super nice and we just got a few tacos and the special burrito which was beef covered in three types of sauce, that was supposed to resemble the Mexican flag (a green salsa, white queso, and red salsa). The burrito it self was large and tasted fine, a clear step up from taco bell and on par with a Chipotle if they didn't care so much about getting you super fresh untainted ingredients. I did ask for cilantro rice in my burrito instead of beans, wasn't sure if it was in there though. It primarily tasted like beef with some melted cheese and Mexican spices. The salsa didn't have uch flavor, kind of wished it was entirely covered in cheese (which their other burritos are). Either way, my experience was just middling, but this place still has a nice neighborhood charm that will bring me back if I'm ever just in the area and just craving Mexican food. read more

Wanting to support local restaurants led us back here. First and foremost the food is OK however the mediocre service has finally sealed their fate in regards to us going back! If the food was amazing we would continue to go however that is not the case. Steak fajitas with almost all peppers and onions and hardly any steak was the final straw that broke the proverbial camels back. If all you are looking for is a couple tacos and cold beer definitely go ahead and try you're luck however I wouldn't get you're hopes up. Went in on a Saturday and there was only one other booth occupied and some customers at their bar. We finally sat ourselves since no one came to greet us. Took almost 10 mins to just get chips and salsa. They didn't have Modelo beers. The cheese dip was cold in the center meaning it didn't warm up all the way through when microwaved. And here is where we left: my one friend ordered a Chardonnay and they brought it out in the most dirtiest champagne glass. It still had lipstick marks from the previous drinker. I noticed it as he handed it to my friend and told them to please bring a new glass. The guy himself looked embarrassed because he too saw how dirty the glass was. He says he will bring a new one out and after 5 mins come back with the SAME dirty class. I said no thanks we are done and leaving. He goes over to talk to some woman and I can see her look over and give us a mean look like the audacity of us for wanting a clean glass. He comes back and says we still have to pay for the cheese dip. LOL! And we did pay for it.
