This is a fantastic Italian restaurant in Baltimore. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Inner Harbor or the Little Italy area. I stopped by La Tavola today after dropping my mom off at the airport, and had an amazing lunch. Even though it was an odd hour (2:30PM), and I was pretty much the only one in the restaurant, my waiter, Zachhary, was extremely accommodating and also very knowledgable about the menu offerings. I had the Burrata as an appetizer, which was unquestionably the best mozzarella that I've ever tasted. (Get it!) I then ordered a delicious veal panini for an entrée. After having those, it wasn't very difficult for Zachhary to talk me into taking a look at the La Tavola dessert menu, and I just couldn't resist getting a Zuccotto to finish up with. (Exceptional desserts at this place!) This is a notably great restaurant in one of my favorite cities. Really, REALLY good service with a particular emphasis on attention-to-detail. I can't wait to come back and try their pastas and sauces. (and definitely more desserts!) P.S. The bar is awesome too! :^) read more

Great house-made pasta, including gluten-free pasta selections. The lasagna and spinach/ricotta ravioli were outstanding. Good wine and beer selection. Staff is very knowledgeable and attentive. Do not leave without trying the chef's selection dessert sampler. It is tremendous. read more

My boyfriend and I ate here, we're from Pittsburgh just visiting the Maryland/DC/Baltimore area... and we both can confidently say this was the BEST food either one of us has ever eaten. Anthony was our server and he knew the menu and specials like the back of his hand and had such a great, friendly personality. We both ordered chicken, I had the fettuccine and it tasted like it was all homemade (which everything IS). Everything was delicious and such a great atmosphere. The staff at La Tavola could not be nicer! They make you feel like an old friend! The food is fantastic and the serving sizes is just right. Did you know they stated bottomless brunch? All you care to eat - brilliant. You will not leave hungry or thirsty with bottomless Bellinis. Forget mimosa, the peach Bellini is the way to go. Wow! I Would give 10 stars if I could. I have eaten fabulous Italian meals in Italy many times and the food here is on par. Loved the greeting by the manager and our waiter was off the charts.. so well versed in the menu and gave great suggestions. I had a martini which was perfect... ( I'm an admitted martini snob). We had the antipasto special which was like nothing I've ever eaten before! The main dishes were delicious! My only problem was there were so many yummy choices it was hard to pick just one. What a terrific evening! We walked in of a Monday evening early August, were seated and presented with an array of menus including one for Restaurant Week, featuring a 3-course dinner for $35. We opted for that, and both opted for the filet mignon entree. Appetizers - calamari for me, mussels in a bruschetta sauce for mi esposa - were both excellent. Ditto the filets: super tender and presented beautifully. Wines by the glass were also very good. Desserts included in the prix fixe were both great. We really appreciated the service too. I finished long before my wife, but the server left my plate alone. We hate it when they snatch empty plates away, as it makes the remaining eater feel pressured. Ambience was excellent: murals on walls, classical music playing muted in the background. We stumbled in on the place, no recommendations, just were in the neighborhood. Valentine's Day Success My boyfriend and I went for a late dinner for Valentine's Day. My only complaint was having to wait a few moments for a table, even with a reservation. However, it was Valentine's Day. Although the full menu was not available, the Prix Fixe selections were various and would please many palates. I ordered Mahi Mahi which was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend got crab ravioli which I highly recommend--it was filled to the brim with crab meat and hardly any filler. Our appetizers were fantastic, as was the cannoli and heart-shaped brownie for dessert. Each table got a red rose, which is cliche and pretty standard on V-Day, but I appreciated the gesture. Our server was busy but still very attentive. Our water (and wine!) glasses were never empty. All in all, La Tavola is a great little restaurant with a romantic atmosphere. They also have a banquet room upstairs for private parties and events. Definitely check this place out. It is moderately priced with great quality. read more

The decor of the restaurant is very dated-a theme the carried over into the plating and presentation of the dishes. We had the burrata special for an appetizer, which was creamy, but lacking salt. The zig zags of balsamic and triangles of roasted peppers added a distinctive 80's feel to the dish, however :). Hubby had the veal saltimboca, which was fine enough, but a bit slathered with sauce. I had the grilled scallops in lemon-herb sauce. Tasty, but the dish was supposed to come with sides and I wasn't asked for my preference. It came out on a clam shell on top of a bed of undressed greens and few slices of tomatoes. The shell was really awkward and I had to slide everything off onto my plate. The wines we ordered by the glass were fine, nothing particularly interesting. The best part was the rigatoni with tomatoes and eggplant. I appreciated that we could do a half order and it was a perfect pasta course between apps and the contorni. On the plus side, the service was wonderful-we made reservations online and were seated promptly. The waiter ran off the specials efficiently and the adorable older Italian man made sure we were never without a full glass of water, bread or olive oil to dip. We had a living social coupon and they were gracious about accepting it. Overall, the food was medicore to tasty, decor was dated, and the plating was bleh. Probably won't make a special trip back considering the other interesting options in little italy. read more

There are so many different restaurants in Little Italy. And I presume that you could find virtually any of them listed as the best in some website or another. So I won't proclaim this one as the best. But I will say, overall it was quite excellent. Service was a little shaky at first. We waited a few minutes both at the bar and at our table for first service. I think this may have been in fact because we were a bit early. But once things got going, we had no complaints. The food was excellent. We had an appetizer of the mixed Grill with the squid shrimp and squash. My wife had a Pasta with shellfish, and I had the black pasta with crabmeat. Both were excellent, and more than enough. I imagine if I came back to Baltimore, I would want to try some other restaurants in the area, since there are so many. But I would have no reservation to returning to this one, either. read more

We came here by accident and we were treated to more than just great food but great service and a great conversations with Sam and the Chef. The place we were going to was full and recommended this as one of two best Pastas in Little Italy. They were correct. We were a party of seven and had a Sea Bass (Orato alla Griglia) linguini con taleggio e tartufo, Black Spaghetti (squid ink) with Crab, Mushroom Ravioli, and Sea Scallops (cappe sante con zucchine). All were beautifully presented and everyone loved each meal. The Desserts were just as amazing, cheesecake, tiramisu, Zuccotto, Tartufo Al Cioccolato.... OMG amazing you have to try this one, a ball of vanilla and espresso ice cream rolled in coconut with an espresso chocolate sauce. read more

My wife and I tried this for a late Sunday lunch after walking around the inner Harbor. The mozzarella appetizer with tomato and roaster prose was absolutely fantastic. My wife's penne puttanesca was very good but a bit salty and the gnocchi with tomato sauce was the best that I have had in a very very long time. Regretfully the packed up remains of my wife's dish were not sealed all that well and leaked on the long way back to our car. We had to toss them. A real shame !!! They have gluten free soft shell crabs as part of their restaurant week menu!!! This means until Sun 8/11, you can get a 3 course dinner for only $35, and one of the courses can be gluten free soft shell crabs!!! Any celiac knows how hard it is to find GF crabs. This is a real treat. read more

The BEST pasta I've had since I was in Rome! We stopped in to La Tavola without a reservation and were greeted as good friends by the owner, Dave Olson. Both he and our wonderful waitress, Morgan, explained to us that all the pasta, bread sauces and dressings were made fresh daily in house. And that the Venice-born Master Chef went to local farms and markets each morning to select that day's fruits and vegetables. All that effort most definitely paid off. Dinner was an absolute delight. Seafood was fresh and perfectly cooked. The grilled calamari was delicious and tender. My husband said the lasagna was most definitely "life changing" as the sign in the sidewalk promised. And the pasta... oh my! As light and delicate as anything I ever had in Rome and Venice. So finely made, it was almost translucent. Mr. Olson took beautiful care of us and even treated us to a sample of his signature zinfandel sangria (pictured), an unusual and delicious treat. Service was attentive and if I had anything negative at all to say, it would be to ask that you slow down a bit and not remove our plates the moment we put our forks down. I was the last to finish and I was afraid that my plate would be removed before I was completely finished. I am sorry I don't live in Baltimore just so I could enjoy this little bit of Italy more often but it is a delicious reason to return! read more

We just had a phenomenal dinner here. I had the best lasagna I've ever had and my wife said the gnocchi had the best vodka sauce she's ever had. Everything was phenomenal. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. This was our first time here and we had an amazing time. It was a Monday night and it was relatively empty but we were treated with amazing service. The waiter went above and beyond to make sure our visit was enjoyable. We met the owner, he was also the bartender who made our drinks. My boyfriend was very pleased. I was so happy with everything I took him back in June for his birthday because the food, service, and atmosphere was amazing. Fantastic restaurant! My brother, nephew and I were visiting from out of town and made a last minute reservation based on reviews. They were not wrong! The calamari was so light and yummy. Our entrees of lasagna, gnocchi and raviolis were wonderful as well. The desserts fantastic especially the tiramisu...best I've ever had. Our waiter, Charlie, was on point with his recommendations. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because I got a little sick from eating the Fettuccine alla Romana. My boyfriend and I went to La Tavola for our five year anniversary on the recommendation of one of my coworkers. He said it was his favorite due to its all-homemade dishes and desserts, and we were definitely not disappointed! The atmosphere was wonderful, decor simple and calm. Our waiter Christian was very polite and gave us the right amount of space and service. We were promised water and bread upon seating, but they were very busy so I ended up having to ask. He corrected it within a few minutes and wasn't overly apologetic (which is something I like.) The food was fantastic. We started with the calamari, which was awesome (those little zucchinis, what a great touch!) I got the pasta special of the day and I could definitely tell that the noodles were homemade.
