    Chips with salsa, guacamole, queso
    Tim G.

We went here for dinner. It's a casual spot with a nice-looking bar. Our host and waitress were very nice and service was prompt. We ordered their classic margeritas, which we really liked. Our drinks and appetizers were definitely the highlight. The guacamole tasted very good, and they added crumbled cheese (queso?) on top - I was skeptical at first, but it actually complimented the flavor very well. Unfortunately, our experience more or less peaked there - our entrees were disappointing overall. We ordered a bunch of tacos, and apart from the sweet potato taco (which was great), the rest of the tacos were average at best, lacking flavor, and simply not very tasty. Even the quesadilla was not that great, and I feel like that's pretty difficult to screw up.

Sat at the bar on a Sunday night and the bartender Matt was super nice. Ordered queso and the chicken "bahn mi" both were very good and filling. "Bahn mi" was a good size for dinner and you can never go wrong with chips & queso!

At the end of an afternoon in the City by the Sea, we were looking for a light meal & remembered that La Vecina has half priced appetizers from 4-6pm Sunday through Thursday in the off season. Perfect! It was easy to find a seat at their bar at this early hour. We love the fun, bright atmosphere here and it's a great place to eat at the long bar. There are an array of "antojitos" on their menu which make it easy to come up with a meal. We ordered the Nachos (adding Chicken Tinga and a side of Poblano Cheese Dip because there can never be too much cheese!), Beef Empanadas, Pineapple-Serrano Shrimp & a pitcher of the House Margaritas. The nachos were a surprisingly large portions - immediately making us wonder if we'd ordered too much. The chips were fresh & the chicken flavorful. We were happy for the extra cheese dip for the chips without toppings. The empanadas were flavorful and the chimichurri a perfect foil. I loved the shrimp! Sweet, spicy, savory, crunchy - the whole package. The House Margaritas are tasty and were almost too ample for us to finish. The bartender was friendly & helpful, though perhaps a bit inattentive at times - often an issue in many places during slow periods. While the prices here do seem a bit lofty for a taqueria, this is a fun place, in a great location with carefully prepared food & a fun atmosphere. Plus - the "happy hour" special makes it a good deal.

Tried 5 of the tacos for dinner here. Good selection of drinks, and the servers were quick, knowledgeable and checked on us often. The artwork behind the bar is probably the best you'll find in Newport. I only like 3 of my 5 tacos, but I should have paid more attention to what was in them when I ordered. I will probably be back on another Tuesday to try the rest of the menu.

We went here after seeing a show at the Jane Pickets theatre and there were plenty of seats at the bar area. We were greeted by our bartender who was friendly enough but did appear preoccupied by side work as it was towards the end of their night. The artwork on the walls is beautiful and the all around vibe was pleasing. The tacos were delicious, unlike most Mexican restaurants you get one shell with your taco and they stuff it full. We tried the guacamole and chips, and it came out of the kitchen in record speed. Good food, great vibes, worth a visit.

Stopped by again this past weekend and got the pork and chicken tacos along with the chicken fajitas. The tacos were pretty good, but the fajitas didn't have enough chicken, and there was no rice or beans, which felt a bit off for $20. The service was good, drinks were alright, but the chips were way too salty. Overall, an okay experience--happy hour's the real highlight here.

I'll start with a five stars for being employee owned. Congratulations! I had squash and mushroom tacos, hibiscus limeaid and table chips and salsa. I wanted to love this, but all the tortillas were oily. The service was quick and I got a lovely sunny seat right by the window. The interior is darling. The interior is adorable and I'll give it another shot in the future.

Cozy Mexican spot in Newport! Stopped in for lunch, sat outside and ordered trio of salsas, street corn, shrimp and steak tacos. Our server Lilly was friendly and fun, did not rush us and delivered the food right on point. All of the menu items were tasty, only improvement I could see would be serving the chips warmed as they were a little on the stale side, other than that can't wait to go back!

Really enjoy this spot in Newport - great patio seats and the indoor bar is very colorful! Service is always good and drinks are great! Highly recommend the Skinny Spicy Cucumber - it's similar to a ranch water cocktail - Super refreshing, tasty and light - perfect for summer!

I had an omelette for brunch yesterday which was fabulous!! I'm usually a "bene" girl but I was in the mood to try something different. The La Vecina Omelette with Pork Carnitas as my protein but they had other options too. Our server was friendly and efficient...she took pride in her job and really spoke highly about the chef. We sat outside because it was 80 degrees in October so why not!! This menu is something new the restaurant is trying and so far they are doing a great job my husband had the Carnitas Hash and was equally pleased with his choice. Our only suggestion would be to modify the coffee selection which our server said was being addressed

This is turning into our late night Newport snack /bite option. When we get a little hungry we order 4 chicken tacos and a margarita pack to go. It's actually much cheaper to buy this combo online. They got rid of the shrimp mango habanero and replace it with an Octopus dish. That's a real bummer as the shrimp was way better. La Vecina is superb Mexican restaurant and you should try it next time!

Very tiny tres leches dessert that was $7.

I'd like to start off my saying our food was delicious! We got the carnitas tacos for 2. The meat, the corn tortillas, rice, beans, and cilantro topping was so yummy. 5/5 for the food! We really enjoyed the salsa and the valentina offered on the table . The Tres Leches dessert tasted great. Unfortunately, the serving size is extremely tiny for the price. The cake "slice" is served in the same cup they use for salsa. Typically when you order tres leches it's a square slice on a plate. We also paid $3 for a sprite (no refills), which we were fine with originally, but then our waiter brought out a sprite mini can. Which you can pay $6 for a 10 pack in most grocery stores. We didn't love that. Our bill was pretty expensive for one shared entree and 2 non alcoholic drinks. For what we paid at most restaurants would get you 2 entrees, 2 drinks, and a dessert. I also got charged $4 for an extra side of corn tortillas, which sort of surprised me because that's not something i've ever experienced at a restaurant. Based on food, vibes, and service this place is a 5/5. Based on price it's a 3/5.

The service was exceptional, and the menu boasts an impressive array of authentic Mexican dishes, including mole and pumpkin sauces--definitely not Tex-Mex. This is a much-needed addition to the local dining scene, as Rhode Island is not renowned for its Mexican or Tex-Mex options. Currently, Pero Solado is one of the few decent spots on the island, with a few more in the Providence and Central Falls area. Note that they do not have a liquor license, so you can enjoy Mexican sodas instead. Our meal consisted of guacamole and chips, carne asada, three tacos, and a side of beans. Everything was delicious; the beans were clearly homemade, and the tortillas were made from corn. The pricing was generally good, although the guacamole and chips at $10 seemed a bit steep. I highly recommend giving them a try to support another vibrant spot on Broadway. I'm looking forward to trying their breakfast offerings soon. First impressions is that they did a nice job at decorating this little spot, decor is great. Ordered a horchata, which you could tell was homemade and not from some pre-made mix, which of course made it taste that much more yummy. Main course I got was the chicken torta, which was flavorful and would be something I would order again:) Newport needs more Mexican food places that aren't the tired tex-mex style spots we have here. Give this spot a try!
