My first visit to La vecindad was during midafternoon, so I could be sure to get in. After a late breakfast, I figured a late lunch would be fashionable. The place is impressive. It's fashioned in a u guessed vecindad aesthetic with Mexican mosaic with a welcoming entryway. There is seating for those who are waiting. My booth was near the kitchen, and I watched the waiters in black shirts, black trousers and aprons. They were busy at midday, punching in orders and carrying out chips and salsa. At length, I asked my server what she would recommend. She suggested the torta del chavo and I went with that. She first brought me the familiar la vecindad tray with chips and salsa. The torta del chavo was delicious and comforting on a hot day. The portion was generous. My server was ready with my drink As I ate, I noticed the vases and planters with permanent flower displays on the ledges. There are several dining areas with arched doorways. On a hot summer day, I will try the maracuya that was recommended. All in all, it is a beautiful restaurant that attracts visitors from out of town as well as people who live here. read more

The staff was nice we were greeted as soon as we arrived. I liked the theme of the restaurant it was nice and reminiscent of watching El Chavo. We went during breakfast I ordered the chilaquiles which are served with eggs, beans and rice. I tried to ask the server what was the difference between the tomatillo or mole verde unfortunately I was unable to hear his response as they had a musician singing and playing a guitar very loud. I went with the tomatillo sauce and it was just ok. The food was bland and I needed to put salt to try and give it some flavor. We had higher expectations for the food here and we really didn't enjoy taking time out of our vacation to be disappointed. The musician went table to table asking for a tip donation and also there was a photographer offering to take your picture. Honestly all we were there for was to have a good breakfast. They quickly served us our drinks once our full party arrived. However, after a long time, NO ONE came to take our food order. Another large group came in after we did and they got their food served before we could even order. WE actually had to ask a random waiter if we could put in our order. The food was good BUT not great. The prices are high for being Mexican food. The aguas frescas were on point though. We were very disappointed with the service and the food overall. Yelpers- May have found a new favorite Mexican restaurant. I work across the street and decide to stroll the commercial center ( that is run down and has more empty tenets than occupied). The chips are served warm, the Mole' is the best I've found in town (my gold standard is Red Iguana in SLC, Utah) and Vanessa was engaging, delightful and has a welcoming smile. I ordered the carne asada burrito with the mole lay sauce. POW!! Mouth-watering. If Molé isn't prepared correctly it can taste burnt or be too chocolaty rich. The mole was outstanding. Found this restaurant on TikTok and decided to give it a birthday. When you walk in the beautiful bright colors are so inviting the Chavo del Ocho theme was a fun flash back for me and my kids were asking me all about the show.
