Cute little coffee truck that is only opened on the weekends and seems to have a lot of love. I really loved that there was so much creativity put into the matcha from using condense milk to blend a fusion of flavors. The man who took our order was extremely kind and friendly. My boyfriend and I were in the area and wanted some coffee. Luckily, this cute Vietnamese coffee truck was just a short walk away. There was a long line, and we ended up waiting about 15 to 20 minutes before reaching the front. Ordering was quick, and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the La Vi Viet Latte and the Salted Cookie Butter Coffee. These drinks were worth the wait! I was especially impressed by the La Vi Viet Latte. You could actually taste the Earl Grey, and it complemented the coffee really well. The ladyfinger biscuit was a nice touch too. This is such a cute vietnamese coffee truck in downtown Austin that serves both coffee & matcha. The drinks are reasonably priced & they don't charge for alternative milk. There's also free pastries & snacks near the register. When I went it was a little busy, but the line moved quick. I waited about 15 minutes for my drinks, which wasn't that bad. Parking was a little hard since it's by a hotel, but there's surrounding areas for street parking. The banana cream top matcha was creamy & had a perfect balance of banana & matcha. The la vi latte was a little strong & not bitter. It says it has earl grey syrup in it, but I couldn't taste it. Overall, I loved both of the drinks. read more

La Vi is an up and becoming coffee truck in downtown Austin. They are still trying to find their groove and rhythm. Their hours are limited to just the weekends, and they are packed during those business hours. I came during SXSW weekend and waited approximately 30 minutes for two drinks. The drinks themselves are good, but the portions are smaller. I would give them a visit if I'm not on a time crunch and already in the downtown area. read more

Expect a line but a line that moves fast because they're so efficient! They have the classic Vietnamese coffees and their own unique twists on them as well. My friend and I opted for the egg coffee and cookie butter coffee. They were fantastic! So creamy, smooth espresso and an overall treat. That being said there's a lot of dairy in this and the coffee is super strong. Me and my friend (who can handle dairy unlike me) could only finish half of the drink...so maybe consider splitting it. Overall: 3.5/5 La Vi is a Vietnamese coffee food truck currently in their soft opening phase. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, about a week before their official launch, and the line was long. The wait was slow, drinks took a while to come out, and your name is called when your order is ready for pickup. Pricing also feels a bit random and on the pricier side given the small cup size, with a good portion of it being cream or milk. La Vi has potential, but there are quite a few kinks they need to work out. My husband got the matcha latte ($7.15) with oat milk and substituted condense milk with agave syrup to avoid dairy. The drink was topped with two cute daisies. The first sip was good, but after that it tasted a bit sweet and artificial. Our friend got the salted caramel Viet latte ($7.15), which wasn't bad but nothing particularly special. You get a subtle caramel flavor throughout. I got the salted cookie butter coffee ($7.35) which was really good and the best of all the drinks we tried. The taste and sweetness level were perfect. You can't adjust the milk or cream top though. read more

Can we talk about the size of this cup?!?! 18oz! (With my previous history with other coffee/matcha shops, I feel the need to verify the cup volume and it was engraved in the cup as 18oz) They also don't charge extra for milk substitutes! This coffee truck has been hyped since even before it opened, and I definitely think it's really good. However, I think waiting an hour+ for a drink is pretty ridiculous, especially when you see how slowly everyone is working inside. You definitely don't need to spend 15+ seconds sprinkling powder onto a drink when you see you have a line of 20+ people. I also think their drink sizes for the price is pretty crazy, but if you know you only care about a solid matcha/latte, this is your spot. read more

This place was okay. I'd give it a 3.8/5 for taste alone but 4.3/5 for taste + vibes. It's convenient if you're walking around downtown and want something refreshing. I'm not sure if it's worth standing in the heat to wait in line though... Their logos and design are creative and make them stand out. It's a cute little food truck with friendly staff. This is a new soft opening vietnamese coffee truck that I was very excited to try. It seems like they are currently open sat and sunday, but you might want to check their instagram for further updates. 20% off during their soft opening as well. The barista/ person at the cashier was friendly and charming. He was helpful and eager to introduce us about their vietnamese drinks. They have a variety of vietnamese coffee. My bf and I got banana cream top matcha and salted butter cookie coffee. the cream top for the coffee was salty sweet, some crumble of the butter cookie on top make the drink more fun and balance out some of the bitterness of the vietnamese coffee underneath. the Vietnamese coffee was great, it taste strong like how coffeee in vietnam is but didn't left my heart palpitate. Matcha was good but not too impressive in my opinion, was still a solid matcha drink tho. Banana cream top was sweet and not as thick as expected. Overall I would definitely come back to try their other coffee, specifically the egg coffee and maybe their matcha may cloud a try. The area has seatings to sit and hangout with friends outside, along with other food trucks in the area. Glad there's now a great place to get my Vietnamese coffee fix downtown. I tried the egg coffee with had the perfect ratio of cream top to coffee. The Vietnamese coffee was nice and strong and rich. Was in town for the TWICE concert and I kept seeing this coffee truck all over social media. I for one am trying to branch from my usual Starbucks coffee and have had various hits and misses from small business coffee spots. La Vi is definitely a hit! So much so, I went two days in a row. So amazingly delicious! First day I tried the salted cream top coffee and the second day I tried the La Vi Viet Latte with oatmilk. Both coffees were smooth and creamy and not bitter at all. The salted cream top coffee was a traditional Vietnamese coffee with a tasty cold foam top - usually my go to coffee order and La Vi Viet Latte tasted like a mix of Vietnamese coffee and milk tea, it was unique and so good!! Need to try their matcha next - need another excuse to drive into Austin! There's a reason there's a long line down the street I wish them so much success and hopefully they make their way to SATX, we need places like this. read more

I loved the vibes of this place :,) their maycloud matcha was so creamy (and they handwhisk their matcha!) and on the sweeter side while the salted cookie butter coffee was strong (small hints of cookie butter) and not as creamy. Personally, I enjoyed their matcha more than their coffee. Be prepared to wait in line + drinks when its busy as they are still in soft opening. Parking is limited and posted on their instagram page for help. I would definitely go again at a less busier time when i visit austin again :) read more

I was beyond impressed with this place! Showed up around 1:05 pm on a Sunday, and despite being officially closed they still took my order (and a few after me as well). The employees were kind and engaging and really took their time to give personalized service to each customer. The coffee I got was delicious (salted cream top) and prices were extremely reasonable. Sooo good! Got the banana cream top matcha. The matcha was creamy and the banana soft top had a good flavor! Also the workers/owners seem really sweet and that always makes me want to support a small business even more. I got there right before they opened at 9 am on a Sunday so I was near the front of the line, but lots of people showed up shortly after, so just keep that in mind. Love that they're set up in a retro airstream -- such a fun vibe. Donuts are made fresh and topped to order, and it is 100% worth the wait. They've got large and mini sizes, so we went with a few different minis so we could try multiple flavors without overdoing it (or maybe we still overdid it, no regrets ). The menu has something for everyone, even more "basic" options for those who don't want all the toppings -- which honestly feels a little sacrilegious here haha. They also have great coffee, plenty of seating, and shaded tables so you can dig in right away and actually enjoy the moment. I honestly cannot pick a favorite menu item because I loved them all!! Already counting down until I'm back in Austin so I can return.

There wasn't a line (it was a pretty hot day) so we managed to order quickly. We opted to split the Black Betty. It was huge!! I loved the blackberry sauce and fruit mixed in with the cream and sugar. This is one big dessert so I'm glad we shared it - honestly would be worth splitting a whole one amongst a few people unless you have a big sweet tooth! The staff were really quick with the order. There's ample seating by the truck which is probably nice for part of the year, but we were suffering on a hot summer day. I would highly recommend this spot - but keep in mind the weather as it's all outdoor and outdoor seating only.

It was more like a dressing than gravy. 3/5 Texas hash was sweet potatoes and pulled pork in what I can guess is like a curry sauce with lime, cilantros. I wouldn't order this again, we ate like 1/2 of it and didn't even togo home. I was expecting more like... breakfast sweet potatoes with a side of pulled pork, didn't expect that it was all mixed in and mashed together. 5/5 free rice Krispies, this was amazing. Probably the best home made rice Krispies I had in my life. Overall I need to comeback to try something else. Also the water here was good, didn't taste like Austin city water.

Sammie's has been hyped up on social media for a long time and I gotta say it's still underrated! I will gladly have Sammie's take the Pepsi challenge against red sauce joints in NYC/NJ etc. In fact, I've told friends and family that I am going to take them to Sammie's when they visit from there. We just had such a fantastic experience - everything..the vibe..the red light fixtures and the color of the booths and the floor..the service - our server was great..loved their outfits..really had an old school little italy feel to it. The food was much better than I even anticipated - as a guy who grew up on NJ diner mozzarella sticks, I have a high bar for them and these were magnificent. And seriously...taking the "everything's bigger in Texas" slogan and applying them to mozzarella sticks?! top 10 achievements of the decade. The chicken parm was perfect - well seasoned, proper amount of crisp..the basil on top...the perfect browning of the cheese. Also the lasanga was excellent..and best part - the leftovers..took it home and the next two days put them in a small cast iron and re-heated them..and the magic was right there in my hill country kitchen! Lastly and certainly not least - the cannoli...just look at the photo below.. I'll say, yes, the place is pricey but you can really easily split these entrees and then it becomes cheaper than a jersey strip center Italian joint. I haven't stopped raving about Sammie's since I've been there, and I cannot wait to return, recommend it, and take friends and family that visit.

Back in the Dec. we did a guys trip to Austin and the culinary highlight of the weekend was Sammie's. Stepping through the doors felt like stepping into elegance and onto the set of Goodfellas. From the hostess to the waiters to the manager everyone was super attentive and on top of their game. You can't go wrong with anything from the bar. I have never been a fan of Negronis but the one at Sammie's changed my life! I order them everywhere I go now searching for that Sammie's Negroni high but nothing comes close to it. So when I found out they opened a brick-and-mortar location, I knew I had to come back. I re-ordered their Killer Noodles and loved how they kept that fun food truck feel in the presentation. It felt playful, quirky, and true to their roots. Their soft shell crab curry dish was also really impressive. It was a bit too spicy for me, but the flavors were bold, layered, and explosive in the best way. Based on what we tried, I have no doubt the rest of their menu is just as delicious. Definitely a fun spot to check out if you're looking for bold Thai flavors in Austin.

He was very attentive and checked in throughout, ensuring we had enough water and beverages. After being sat, we were immediately met with sourdough bread with butter and sea salt. We ordered oysters including 4 that were dressed--very fresh, tasty and I'd return for the oyster happy hour which is Monday to Friday from 3pm-5pm (they are a bit pricey) The star of the show was the octopus--I've had octopus across the US and globe and honestly one of the best I have had, so glad we ordered in.
