My experience at La Villa wasn't great. I stopped in for a late lunch, and the place was mostly empty. My waitress, the only one who was working, it seemed, was really not welcoming and borderline rude. I'd apparently come in just before her lunch break (she sat down to eat about midway through my meal) so really someone else probably should've been waiting on me. She never smiled at me, just kind of thrust everything in front of me -- the menu, my drink, my food, my check -- and never checked to see if I needed anything else. She reached around me for something and never said "excuse me." I got the same rude body language when I went up to pay my check. She never asked how my meal was, just silently took my check and looked kind of exasperated at the whole process. My waitress was what made the majority of the experience bad, but my food was only ok, too. The bread didn't have much flavor, and my spaghetti was swimming in sauce and didn't look like it had been freshly prepared. I honestly felt like I'd gotten canned spaghetti due to the presentation alone. It will likely be a long time before I go back to La Villa, and it definitely won't be during lunch. read more

La Villa was our go to spot for great Italian food when we lived in Lynchburg eleven years ago. We revisited tonight and it has changed over the years. Unfortunately, the change is not good, with or without Covid. The food and service were okay, but not as great as it used to be. When trying to pay for our meal, multiple workers said we had to use our credit card as debit with a pin, versus using it as a credit card, as we always do everywhere. We don't even have a pin for that card. Told the owner he needs to upgrade his credit card machines too, as they were dated. He should also train his workers to use the machines to fulfill customer requests. Never tell a customer what they can and cannot do. With these changes, it could turn around, back to what it was years ago. La Villa, you've been around too long not to do better. Bring back the great! read more

The owners of this place are amazing! I love what they're doing during this time of COVID, (They're collecting food for less fortunate families) they're also big supporters of local law enforcement. The service is always amazing here. Steph is the absolute best server. The food is good, however the pizza leaves alot to be desired. I am a pizza lover as my friends will tell you, and this place has so much potential with their pizza. Unfortunately right now it is just REALLY greasy. When you pick up a slice of pizza all the cheese and toppings fall off of it, so its not one of the pick a piece up and eat it kinda pizza, its a fork and knife kind of pizza, but its just really greasy. La Villa Da Toto is a restaurant that is comfortable in its own skin - offering hearty, red-sauced Italian fare served by an affable staff in a casual, unassuming and family-friendly environment all at an honest price. As they say, "It is what it is." La Villa reminds me of the Italian place we frequented when I was growing up that was run by real Sicilians who kept the menu simple, mainly offering pizza (thin Neapolitan, deep-dish Chicago-style, calzones and stromboli) and macaroni dishes (in Italian, "maccherone" means "pasta", not just those short elbow-bent tubes). Sublime and restrained Tuscan dishes need not apply. The focus at La Villa is similarly on pizza and pasta. Successful pizza, of course, starts with the dough. La Villa's is light and slightly yeasty, but mercifully not heavy and "bready" like the national delivery chains. Pies come out of the oven with a nice crust to hold the tangy tomato sauce, generous mozzarella cheese and toppings. Calzones (pizza folded in half and filled with ricotta and other toppings) and stromboli (pizza folded into thirds to resemble a roll or loaf) are enclosed in the same thin and crisp dough and can be stuffed with various meats, cheeses and vegetables, and are accompanied by marinara sauce for dipping. While we enjoy the traditional calzone - stuffed with ham and ricotta - we'd love to see the kitchen offer a spinach and caramelized onions calzone similar to that found on the menu at the Bertucci's chain. We must commend the kitchen for its proper cooking of the macaroni - er, pasta - al dente, which literally means, "to the tooth." Hallelujah! Note to other local Italian kitchens: It's meant to be chewed, not gummed... Pasta dishes include ravioli, lasagna, manicotti and stuffed shells, among others. These large, entrée-sized portions are served with a salad and pizza crust bread sticks. Several pastas are also available for lunch - sans salad, yet still large portions - for only $4.99! Both the stuffed shells and lasagna are tasty and enjoyable, rendering one quite stuffed. Traditional entrées such as eggplant/chicken parmesan, veal/chicken marsala and chicken piccata are also represented and come with a side of thick spaghetti - spaghettoni. The kitchen's chicken parmesan is essentially breaded and deep-fried chicken tenders with melted parmesan and topped with marinara; the chicken parm can also be had as a sub. The piccata is an attractive dish of thin cutlets and a tangy sauce with plenty of capers. Service is very friendly and efficient, and first time diners are treated as though they've been eating here for years. Food comes out quickly and servers regularly check on patrons and refill glasses. The restaurant also does a brisk carry-out business for those bringing home dinner to the family. The parking lot is a little crazy, as La Villa is adjacent to the entrances to Dairy Queen and Putt-Putt; although it pales in comparison to the chaos found on Ward's Road. Menu is typical, standard pizza/pasta dishes (and the obligatory heroes/meatball subs). BUT they don't have PAV (Penne alla Vodka) on the menu! We started with Fried Calamari. It was good, but the batter was that in-between color of light yellow and white... I'm sure they were afraid of over cooking it, but it was just strange to look at. A little lemon and marinara helped me get over that. I ordered the Penne Arrabbiata. The overall mouth feel was bland. Granted,it was spicy, but watery with chunks of over-stewed tomatoes... and the penne was overdone. I wouldn't shell out the cash for this dish when I make it better at home with Barilla and Bertoulli. (Sorry to say!) My dining mate ordered the Alfredo... when I say "Alfredo" what do we all think? Yes, say it, Fettuccini Alfredo... But it came with wide egg noodles... that would be good... if... again, the "cream" sauce wasn't cheese water sauce. The sauce lacked body, and you could tell that it was just sliding off the noodles. I didn't ask to taste it since I was already turned off by the mere sight of it. The best part of the meal was the breadsticks! They have nice doughy garlic parmesan breadsticks served right out of the oven. That made my day... so I had to look past my entrée and sing praises to the breadsticks. Then I figured the desserts would be the saving grace. So naturally we ordered all three of them, the Cheesecake, Tiramisu and Cannoli. The Cheesecake was dense, cold and hard to get into... the taste was standard, something you could get in Wal-mart. The Cannoli was ok, it had the gritty cannoli cream that I don't particularly care for, but still satisfied the sweet tooth. And lastly, the Tiramisu (Italian for "pick me up" because of the coffee or espresso and occassional rum they put in there)... it was a sin (in the "you have to confess to a priest and do 5 years of penance" type of sin). SUPER DRY LEMON CAKE as the base, and the cream wasn't even able to help that! First of all, ladyfingers people.... Please use ladyfingers in tiramisu. I know, I've made my own rendition of Tiramisu with sponge cake, so I can't hate... BUT if you claim to be an authentic Italian joint, let's use what recipes going wayyyyy back to the Roman gods' era. I mean... you could've soaked the cake in some coffee/espresso mix (like you're supposed to with the ladyfingers)... but really. This "pick me up" turned into a "put me down... dropped me on the floor face first." So... no, the desserts do not save this place. I still have the heart to try your pizza Da Toto. And eventually, I will. Hopefully this will change my entire impression of you. But for now, don't go if you're looking for a good pasta dish or good Tiramisu. read more

He has been especially helpful in the past when our daughter developed an intolerance to gluten he had something made up especially for her. His level of care meant a lot to us. LaVilla is a request go-to restaraunt for us. The staff is always pleasant and the owner always speaks. I typically order the Greek salad with chicken. My husband typically gets pizza. Today we went and I ordered the chicken and vegetables. I've heard great reviews about it and it appeared pretty healthy on the menu. I have to be careful with the amount or oil/grease I have and I don't eat too many carbs. The entree was ok - very greasy and not healthy at all. I ate 1/4 and then asked for a box. Expect a 20 minute wait on Friday and Saturday night, but it's worth the wait. I've eaten everywhere in Lynchburg that serves pizza or pasta and this is by far my favorite. Italy has so many culinary regions that even Italians aren't exactly sure what constitutes Italian food. The owner/manager/greeter was born in Italy so this is Italian food de facto. The tables are a little cramped, so hold out for a booth if you can. This place is very kid friendly so there will be a few running around, and all the TV's usually show cartoons. A lot of people like the rosy sauce, but I'm not a fan. Pizza, pasta, and boli's are all good. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu. read more

I do agree with this establishment's views on supporting local law enforcement, but the quality of the food is lacking. My fiancé and I ate here recently and we both had dishes with chicken. The chicken seemed to be frozen chicken that you could buy at Sam's club and the pasta was just basic store bought pasta. We will have to try Isabella's next time for better Italian food. read more

We arrived in Lynchburg late on a Sunday night, which coincided with commencement from LU (YUCK), and felt like getting some Italian. Fortunately, this place was open late (10pm on a Sunday night is late in VA) and pretty busy. Overall, I was very happy with the food. The house salad was typical- lettuce, tomato, carrot- but the vegetables were fresh and that counts for a lot. They also give you a giant basket (refillable) of hot breadsticks, which are delicious. Don't eat too many though, because the portions from their pasta dishes are HUGE! I have never gotten such a large plate before, chock full of tomatos, peas and stuffed shells (I choose the cheese) in a very creamy alfredo sauce. My companions also got huge portions of spaghetti (the meat sauce chunks are like mini meatballs, so get one or the other, cause you don't need both) and mixed color tortellini in a slightly different creamy sauce. Nobody finished their meal and there was absolutely no need for dessert. Whew. Also, they had decent wines for a lousy $3.50 a glass (I'm from California; you can't get a thimbleful for that little) and a good sangria, too. Many berries in the concoction. My only complaint, the obnoxious TV that played FOX (not) News the entire time, even when I asked if they could please change the station (nobody was watching!). I know you're near LU, but really? This place used to be pretty good, but all of my recent visits have been highly disappointing. Mushy pasta and watery, flavorless sauce appears to be the new norm here. I would be shocked if a single one of their pasta dishes are not cooked in the microwave. The pizza is so wet and oily (even the plain cheese pizza) that all of the toppings slide off when plating a slice. This leaves you with a practically inedible slice of plain crust containing residuals of watery sauce and a sad glob of cheese and toppings on your plate to be "enjoyed" separately. At any price point, this is down right pathetic. I would have given them only one star if not for the wait staff who, while not the best, were at least friendly. read more

First and foremost, if you are craving proper Italian food, go to Isabella's across town. I ordered the Chicken Portofino to-go and it was not appetizing in the least bit. The dish claimed to come in a "light white wine sauce", which was nowhere to be found, possibly some remnants of olive oil and garlic that were left in the sauté pan. (I had to make my own sauce at home to make the dish somewhat appetizing) The breaded chicken breast was lackluster, as it was quite small and not very fresh. Also, the "bruschetta" topping on the chicken was simply diced tomatoes scattered across the top. The breadsticks could use some work as I think they were made days prior. Before any haters say it was because it was a to-go order, I was there promptly when it was being packaged and I do not live far away. If you are hungry, this ain't your place. I hate giving bad food reviews, but for the price I paid, I expected a LOT more, and fellow Yelpers deserve to be informed before dining here. read more

I tried La Villa and I was not impressed! I have heard a lot people say they like eating here, but I was disappointed. Maybe it was the chicken sub, but to be honest I like Subway chicken 6in sub better and Subways is bigger and cheaper. Maybe it was my selection, but I would rather eat other places in town before here. Actually I had to go home and eat leftover pizza to fill me up, so I think I will try other places in the future. Chicken Marsala is one of my most favorite dishes. Having traveled with my job for 21 years I've literally eaten the dish in, best guess, over a hundred restaurants. Sadly, La Villa's was the worst I have ever eaten. The chicken was mostly dark meat and cut in what appeared to be pre-cut cubes that had Marsala sauce poured over it. The sauce was horrible! It tasted like pure marsala out of the bottle and not good Marsala. Similarly, my two dinner partners found their respective dishes of Manicotti and Chicken Parmesan to be of frozen food quality. Unfortunately the service wasn't any better. The Chicken Parmesan was supposed to be Veal Parmesan. We were billed for a salad that was supposed to be part of the ordered dinner as well as billed for a single order of breadsticks that was supposed to come with each of the pasta dinners we ordered. Most egregious, the waitress albeit friendly kept wearing her face mask around her chin leaving her mouth and nose exposed. We noticed her several times talking to others without her mask. Please know, this should not be unexpected review as the food and service were discussed with the Manager first-hand. The Manager made no offer to rectify the situation. Visited this location on a work trip (per a colleague's recommendation) and was not let down! I was impressed by the really great service. All the waitresses kept an eye on us and made sure we were always happy and our drinks were always full. I decided to go with some pasta and thought it was delicious. My colleague had the grilled vegetables (which she says she gets every time she visits!) and raved about them. The bread & marinara wasn't too shabby either.
