They've won awards, proclaiming them the best restaurant in Hannibal, Missouri. I have a very limited sample size, but I would completely agree. We had one of the most enjoyable meals of our lives here! Service was friendly with a smile and many patient answers for our many questions. Turns out we love Turkish food. We had only had it once or twice before. LaBinnah Bistro is simply magnificent! We started with the Dolma appetizer. I have a soft spot for grape leaves, and these were outstanding! Definitely top three that I've ever had. My wife had the Istanbul shrimp and she loved them. Her boiled potatoes and asparagus were cooked exactly to her liking. I had the Saç Tava, which is Turkish stirfry beef with yellow peppers and tomatoes. I think there was some garlic in it. It was served with the best saffron rice I've ever tasted. We were completely spoiled with this Turkish home cooking. SO GOOD! We had a delicious and reasonably priced bottle of wine and the Godiva tall chocolate cake for dessert. It was moist and delicious but not overpoweringly sweet. Look at my photos of the interior of this place it's just charming and quaint. So lovely. Three of us visiting from San Antonio went here on 4/15/25 for dinner - Our last day in Hannibal. This little place was the food highlight of our visit. We had the Dolma for an appetizer which was delicious. Neither of my travel mates had had it before. They both loved it. For entrees we had the chicken shish kebab, the Avjar chicken breast, and the African peri-peri chicken. They were all perfect!!! Just amazing. We each got a giant slice of cheesecake afterwards. Friends we were visiting suggested we try a new restaurant in Hannibal. So glad we did! It is in a historical house that has a mixed decor of around the world art and decor. The space is quite small, so be prepared to be close to other tables. We went on a Thursday evening and they had a male musician playing guitar and singing in a room next to the diners. It might have been a touch too loud, but the music was nice and mellow. Our waitress was prompt, professional and friendly. The house wines were quite tasty (Chardonnay and Sangiovese). Each of the entree's we ordered was flavorful and the portion sizes were appropriate. We would reorder the same items, but I would like to try something different next time. Spending a day in Hannibal, and after reading the glowing reviews, we (2) were looking forward to a great dinner experience. Really wanted to give LaBinnah Bistro a supportive review. Unfortunately they thwarted my best attempts. Not sure the usual staffing level, but tonight there were two people working the busy dining room. At first that seemed ok. But after finishing our entrees (chicken shishkebabs and tangine chicken, both good) and being delivered dessert menus....we sat and watched... and watched as our waiter (nice young man) sat new groups, bussed tables, poured wine...and so on for at least 20 minutes. When he finally approached our table I expressed disappointment with being ignored, and he did not know how to handle that in a way that would have helped (e.g., excuses over apologies). So we skipped the coffee and much-anticipated cheese cake and asked to check out. So, service is probably a 2. Food quality was good, but definitely not 4-5 stars as suggested, more like 3.5. Dining room is quite nice in the historical house in which it sits. This place seems to be trying hard, and maybe we caught them on a not so great night. But we were definitely disappointed with our experience. read more

What a great place for a dinner on their outside patio! We were seated by the owner and she told us about her own favorites from the menu (we asked!). Service was great and they were very attentive. Menu options were also great, hard to choose from so many good options! We had their chicken dish that was served with rice, reminded us of a dish our grandmothers used to make for us; we Also had their Argentinian Chimichuri with a pork chop; and, for dessert, we had to have their baklava! My wife chose this on our recent trip back to KC from Lake Michigan. This place is amazing. Wonderful setting in this historical old house. The service is excellent. Owner is quite friendly. The food is fantastic. We started with the "Santa Fe" spinach-artichoke dip with French bread. Very good. My wife had the "Exotic Chicken Tangine...which I sampled--it was wonderful! I had the "Havana" on chicken. The spice level was nice and the entire plate was amazing. They also had my favorite red wine--Sangiovese, an Italian wine. So very good. A hidden gem! We found this place when another place was booked, and we were so impressed. The restaurant is located in a charming old two-story house. Soft lighting and and eclectic mix of big band era music (and maybe some French?) set the tone. Couples and friends all seemed content. The bistro describes its menu as a culinary adventure around the globe. There was a broad variety of food, and almost everything was gluten free. That impressed me. I had Shrimp Istanbul: "Authentic, exotic mixture of fresh shrimp, tomatoes, garlic, golden raisins, blended herbs and a hint of cinnamon! Pan-tossed, Arif's grandma's recipe!" Hubby had "Saumon farci (aux fruits de mer) French style salmon, filled with seafood, rice, dash of cheese, and hint of fresh herbs." Both entrees were served with scrumptious herbed potatoes and savory asparagus. Since we were away for the weekend, we splurged and had dessert. When we first got there and walked in the door it smelled like a very strong cigarette. We were seated in a very small corner table which wasn't really an issue other than it was a little small for both of us being 6'1. The other issue was the dust on the shelves in the corner and the stains on the table cloth itself. We were asked as we were seated if we would like to start with water and that was fine. It took 5 minutes before we received the water and they took our order we went ahead and purchased some sodas and both ordered the New York strip. When our sodas were finally brought out to us after about another 5 minutes they were canned sodas with cups of ice that on the inside had specs of easily wipeable black spots that kind of felt like rubber specks, were these even washed? The only other time we were approached at our table was when the food was brought out to us. The steak was tender which was good, however still tough in spots with lots of deep char in places. My immediate thought when I bit into the steak was this tastes like a hamburger, and my partner agreed. The asparagus was slightly undercooked. However the potatoes that were served with sauce on them were really good. That is where my single star comes from. Like I said we were not waited on often at all, and there were very few tables in there for two waitresses on hand. When it came time to pay the bill it was over $100 after tip, while I expected going to a "nice" restaurant to pay about that much, I didn't expect to pay that much for the quality of food, cleanliness, and service we received. Everything here is amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was out of this world... and nothing you would expect in a small town. The atmosphere was a charming mix of elegance and casualness seamlessly combined. From the beautiful table cloths and chair covers to the bandana napkins this restaurant welcomes you in for a casual night of dinning to a perfect place to dress up a bit and have a date night. They offer a lovely wine selection and lots of beers. We had a couple appetizers: The Danish Royal and Ulysses. The danish royal is Brie cheese with dried fruit and flavored crackers. The Ulysses is homemade pesto, homemade salsa with parmesan and Romano cheeses served over toasted bread. Both were wonderful but the Ulysses was the winner. No one in our party was disappointed with their entrees. The New York strip steak was tender, the shrimp Istanbul completely disappeared and the Chicago chicken is great for those who love a touch of sweetness to their meat. Desserts were all delicious and depend on your mood. I don't remember all the names, but the baklava is really great and well worth trying. We had a cheesecake with a lemon zest which was tasty. Also a chocolate cake slice which is very decadent and goes great with a Turkish coffee. My only wish was this place was closer to my home out of state so I could go more often. This place is phenomenal! Good wine bottles in a nice range of prices and styles. We settled on a $28 rich, smooth, soft Argentinean Malbec. Great, relaxed, friendly service and truly exceptional food. They have Turkish inspired, French inspired, African inspired, American inspired dishes. I had a REALLY difficult time selecting an entree. I finally settled on Shrimp Istanbul. It was a fantastic partnership of delicate seafood along with beautiful aromatic peppercorn, garlic and cinnamon plus sweet white raisins. The absolute delightful surprise was the 1/2 pound of large shrimp sat on a nice chunk of bread that absorbed all the lovely juices. I could snarf up that juicy bread for breakfast, lunch and dinner and not get tired of it! Finished off with the Turkish walnut bakalava - less sweet than the Greek version but sooooo yum! They use simple syrup instead of honey for the sweetness which results in a softer, less sweet result. I could easily eat my weight in that in a month! Want to go back tomorrow!!!!!! But my immediate need is to collapse in a food/wine coma and sleep off this heavenly experience! read more

Heartbreak and disappointment was what I was left with after driving in straight from Greene, Iowa. I knew we would be arriving in Hannibal on the late side but was thrilled to see this Bistro would be open til 10pm according to both their website and yelp! My honey and I discussed the menu in great length on our journey, Hannibal was our stop over on our journey to Nashville. He had decided on the Chicago and I wanted the Istanbul. We walked in to the restaurant at 9:05 PM which was just the right amount of time to dine and not hold anyone up from closing, being a classically trained French Chef myself, I understand the mindset of the kitchen when customers arrive 10 minutes before closing time! The host sat us in the corner, as we admired the atmosphere of eccentric art in the historic house. Seated near us was another couple from out of town also who we chatted with. Upon the host return however, he informed us that the kitchen was closed and apologized. I informed him that the website had stated they would be open until 10 as I too was worried we were being judged as "those kind of people" who have no regard to closing hours of a hard working staff. The gentleman, apologized again and said he would make a note of it to change the hours and thanked us as we left. As we exited I noted the remaining couple had menus still but no food. So, how could the kitchen be closed if they hadn't ordered? I didn't even need a menu to order as I had almost had it memorized at this point! We had been driving down the Great River Road for a couple of weeks when we stopped in Hannibal and found LaBinnah Bistro. Best dinner of our trip so far! We're from the San Francisco Bay Area and admit to being spoiled by tons of wonderful restaurants, but LaBinnah is really good, not just good for a small town in Missouri. My husband had the Caribbean coconut shrimp and I had the West Coast (salmon), that came with potatoes and asparagus over a little fresh spinach and with a terrific spicy cream sauce. Everything was beautifully cooked and delicious, and I applaud them for offering reasonably sized portions instead of the usual twice as much food as I can eat. It was so nice to not feel guilty about ordering dessert (cheesecake and baklava)! Speaking of baklava, I don't know what happened with the previous reviewer who didn't like it, but I've had baklava made by Greek friends and in restaurants in Istanbul, and this was every bit as wonderful as any of those. Good food, good service, but there were plenty of sleights in both. I'd been looking forward to coming to LaBinnah for months, an finally managed to force my work schedule to coincide with their opening hours. I got in around 6:30, and was able to be promptly seated. My server was jovial, knowledgeable, and friendly. After a minute or two with the menu, she took my order, then let me know that they had a large party that had just ordered, so she recommended an appetizer. I ordered the spinach dip at her recommendation, which was pleasant. It was served with an everything-seasoning crusted bread, and had hints of citrus (and looked like it was topped with oregano) to distinguish it from your standard bar fare. I'd received and finished my appetizer by around 7, and stepped out to call my daughter. My entree (the lamb chop) didn't arrive until almost 8 o'clock, and was over cooked. It was still quite flavorful and tender, but definitely well-done. When I asked, I was told it was typically served medium, which would have been amazing. The asparagus (vegetable of the day) was PERFECTLY blanched though, with the right amount of bite without any chew or bitterness. I was a bit surprised, given the price and quality of food, of some of the overlooked details. Crumbs were left on the table and repeatedly plated over and crushed into the linen. They have an extensive dessert menu (with lots of cheesecakes!), but apparently the only thing made in-house is the baklava. I ordered it and it was...good. Not mind-blowing, but good. I feel like LaBinnah has the potential to be a five star restaurant, and maybe I just chose a bad night to visit, but an hour long wait for an overcooked entree ain't it for me. read more

We split an order of Baba Ganoush and had the Trojan and apple salads. If we had been hungrier, we could have ordered from an original, distinctive menu. We went to this restaurant one night after seeing it on Yelp. The restaurant is not your typical restaurant, it's actually in an old house. The restaurant is quite small, with enough room for maybe only 2 dozen people. It has a bit of a retro feel, with most decorations coming from the 40s or so. Regardless, the setting was quite intimate and romantic. The food was excellent. I had the Chicken Florentine, which was a big piece of chicken, covered in spinach (also comes with mushrooms) on top of a piece of bread. There were also ~6 snap peas and 3 potato wedges. The whole thing is covered in a sauce that ultimately makes the bread soggy, but it doesn't take away from the meal at all. I was concerned about the sides, which were not listed on the menu at all, and even though there weren't a lot, I was happy with it in the end. There were some things I didn't like about the place though. Our waiter walked away from the table after only hearing what 2 of the 4 of us wanted to drink. I wanted to order a Coke, but changed my mind when I saw that they serve you a can of Coke with presumably no refills. Other than that, when I went to go pay the bill, I found their system for paying by credit card rather archaic in terms of how you do the tip; I also didn't like how my waiter stood over me as I figured out the tip - hello, privacy? This is clearly the best (and only) fine dining restaurant in Hannibal. It's located in a quaint old house, and decorated in a pleasant amalgam of Victorian and eclectic. The menu is extremely diverse, and it's hard to define the cuisine. A few things about the restaurant are unusual. First, nearly every thing comes on bread. We had an artichoke and spinach appetizer served with bread, a sort of pesto appetizer served on bread, a lamb chop (weirdly served on top of bread) and one of four different salmon preparations (weirdly served on bread). I admit the bread does sop up the juices, so it can be tasty, if a bit soggy. But I've not seen entrees served this way before. Perhaps it's a Turkish twist, since there is a Turkish element to some of the dishes. And speaking of Turkish, the homemade baklava was a superb dessert, lighter than most baklava, and not overly sweet, but perfectly flakey. Another somewhat odd thing about the restaurant is that you pay at a register counter in the back, which is completely at odds with the elegant atmosphere of the dining area. The big picture story here is that this is the best, locally owned and operated dinner option in Hannibal. Food is worthy of a trip for dinner but be prepared to pay normal (big city) prices. The four stars are strictly for the quality of food. My husband and I ordered from the American offerings, for him the ribeye and for me the white wine spinach and mushroom chicken breast. We were both very satisfied with the flavors and quality of food (love that they use local Missouri beef). Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. We both agreed that next time we would order from the Mediterranean offerings, the owner himself makes the recipes and we regret not branching out that way. Take our advice and go Mediterranean, I think those are the dishes that would exceed my expectations. A few noteworthy items regarding the ambiance: The combination of outdated decor and mismatched wall hangings is odd, maybe even a bit confusing (silverware is wrapped in colorful, neon bandanas while you sit at a white table cloth, candle lit setting). The atmosphere is overall strange, like a different dimension, and last, you pay in the back like you're checking out at a grocery store- a bit off putting for me personally. Bottom line is that this is the best local, fine dining option in Hannibal and the food quality is worth the trip for dinner. read more
