Firstly, Id like to note that the hours posted online for their business are not accurate so keep that in mind for scheduling. Then I spend another $30 something dollars getting back home in another Uber all for an appointment I made that they didn't show up for. Extremely disappointed and upset. Dr. Sue Boynton is the best veterinarian I've ever taken my dogs to. She takes her time with each dog and has awesome communication skills. She also goes above and beyond. For example, last year my dog had an ear infection. The power was out in our county and I could not find a vet for my dog. Even though Dr. Boynton had a full schedule, she squeezed in my dog and spent a lot of time with her. I also love the design of the interior. Dogs awaiting their treatment/visits come in one door and those who are leaving, exit through another passage and door. This is such a smart design. Dr. Boynton's staff is also wonderful. After having had some bad experiences with the vet who took over when my old vet retired, I started bringing my cats to Dr Sue. She and the staff are so great. My first experience was when I had to put my 21 year old cat down. Even tho I had no history with them, they were so caring, respectful, created a room with low lights, blankets and music so helpful in saying goodbye. I knew then they were a caring vet team. When my next cat had to have several visits and then a leg amputated, Dr Sue did such good work, was so kind and caring and cost effective. Laguna Veterinary Hospital is the cats meow! I got my pup at 4.5 weeks old (being told she was 12 weeks by the seller) and immediately came in to start her shots and de-worming. When I brought her in, they quickly told me she is still a baby and that we would have to wait. We did all sets of shots here and recently her spaying as well. She has temperamental behavioral issues and I can always count on them to confidently do their work. Last time she was even cuddling with one of the admin! Since I got her so young, her outside behaviors have not been up to par. I have probably called them at least 10 times with random questions and they always have an answer. My family has been taking our numerous animals to laguna vet for over 30 years. However it is disappointing to say that over the last 2 years the quality of care has slowly decreased. We had two German shepherd rescues, and that comes with a fair share of issues and they were being well cared for the two years prior to the pandemic. However, the final straw has come and we will no longer be brining our animals to them. TLDR: We took our dog to Dr. Boynton and she ignored the fact that "the bump on his arm might be an osteosarcoma" (malignant bone cancer) without doing a thorough examination or investigation. A month after we took him to an emergency vet that found cancer in his lungs, liver, and bones. We had to put him down that day. If the Dr. had looked into his condition we could have saved him a month of suffering. It was hard to put our trust into someone that did not give our animal proper care and compassion. Full story: A month ago we had brought our 12 year old German shepherd in to have a bump on his front leg looked at and to see if there was a cause for his persistent whining. He was there for 15 minutes before we were called to pick him up and we were given Gabapentin for his "anxiety" and that was it. Well we took him to an emergency vet a month later on Dec. 26th and they did full body X-rays and found cancer in his liver, lungs, and bones- basically everywhere in his body. We had to put him down that day to end his suffering. If Dr. Boynton had taken the time to think and act compassionately and done a thorough exam when we took our elderly ailing dog to her we could have saved him a month of suffering. Instead she wrote him off with a "the bump on his arm might be an osteosarcoma" (malignant bone cancer) without doing a thorough examination or investigation. It's hard to say after trusting our animals with this Vet for so long, but we need to take our animals to someone who genuinely cares about their wellbeing. I moved here 1.5 years ago. I tried several of the big vet hospitals and found that it didn't work for me or my black lab. I came from a small town in Colorado with a one vet clinic who we trusted and adored. I found it really disorienting in the large Sebastopol practices, seeing a different doctor each visit. I couldn't remember anyones name and my dog who has never been anxious in a vets office was becoming increasingly vet phobic. Let's not even discuss the prices. Geez! I don't think I ever left an appointment for less than $200.00. The big vet clinics were lovely folks, it just wasn't what I was used to. Enter Dr. Sue who I found on Yelp! I was desperate to find a vet I could feel comfortable with. My dog had developed a lump. To be honest, I had a sense it was not just a fatty deposit and I let it go a couple of months because I was terrified to start the process of evaluating it. Denial is a very deep river. We made an appointment after I read the reviews about Dr. Sue. We walked into the office and I somehow knew we'd found our vet. My dog did too, as he walked right in, tail wagging, giving kisses and everyone was just so nice and welcoming. This was before we'd even met Dr. Sue. We went through an aspiration with Dr. Sue thinking it really was just a fatty deposit because of it's structure and placement. Unfortunately, she came back in with the slide and shared the bad news with me, in a kind and gentle way. I can only imagine what that was like for her...first time patient, "I'm sorry your dog has C." I pretty much checked out from that point on, but she took her time and explained what she believed we were dealing with. While we waited for the news I was crying. The staff was so comforting and they gave my dog a brand new-with tags still on-little stuffed lamb to play with and take home, which he did. Considering what had happened at the larger local hospitals, it seemed that he was saying, 'It's okay mom, Dr. Sue is who we are going to use now and she's got this for us!" We made a plan and I called my vet at home. I did a lot of reading too over the next couple of days. I decided that before surgery, I wanted to do x-rays to make sure it had not spread. She respected my request and was very patient with my questions and concerns. She was willing to talk to my vet back home-which we didn't do-but I appreciated her willingness. Thankfully the x-rays were clear and Blue had his surgery. He is doing really, really well and I am praying we are in good shape for awhile. Dr. Sue is open to talking about alternative treatments which was good for us too, as I've done acupuncture and chiropractic for my dogs and horses for years. Oh...and the cost of the surgery? Absolutely reasonable for a major surgery!! I was prepared for sticker shock when I asked for a quote, based on what I'd experienced at the other vet offices just to walk in for a check up! To be honest I would likely have paid anything, but they made an awful situation, something that most of us who love our pets can afford. The care and support we received far exceeded the cost of surgery. Thank you to the Dr. Sue and the staff at Laguna Veterinary Hospital. We will be forever grateful to you. Called this vet hospital to get an estimate for my foster dog to get neutered and have his teeth cleaned, but they wouldn't even give us an estimate without seeing the dog. (And the exam would cost $50, which they were quick to point out.) There are many great animal hospitals and vets out there who don't try to squeeze rescues for money, and that's where we'll be going from now on.
