Nice little fancy restaurant in Jersey City. Went here for an anniversary dinner on a Sunday evening. They had valet parking, so that's a plus, as street parking is near impossible to find. Bread and salad was provided before we ordered anything. The bread was fresh and salad was dressed perfectly. Ordered mussels in white sauce for appetizer, and these were good. Used the bread provided to dip in the mussel sauce. For meals, we ordered chicken parm and stuffed shrimp. Both came with linguine pasta and red sauce. Very good entries. Old school Jersey City Italian restaurant. Friendly service, bustling atmosphere with familiar faces and locals. Had a pre-birthday dinner with friends and was quite satisfied. We shared the calamari and an artichoke appetizer special. They were both tasty and the artichoke was very, very good! I had the Orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage. The serving size was enormous, with plenty left to take home. The flavor was good and not too garlicky. My friend had a special with salmon (?) over risotto and complained that it was delicious but the risotto was ice cold. She did not complain, but enjoyed it anyway. The waitress was helpful and pleasant. A highlight at Laico's is the bread...always warm and good. Will continue to revisit this local gem. Definitely recommend! read more

The food is great. but this new owner is the worst. i was a party of two. a table of 4 people said we were too loud when in fact there was a party of 6 who was louder and a party of 4 as well. you're in a small restaurant with tables on top of each other. and this table expected things to be quiet?? so we were kicked out. a party of TWO!! they said they heard us at the bar, which was LOUD and we were in the back. impossible!! the treatment was atrocious. 2 people verses 20 other people plus a bar. come on! so much for being able to enjoy yourself while out. absolutely disgusting treatment. read more

Came here on a saturday night around 8pm with 3 friends. This place is small and pack. It looks like a house thas renovated into a restaurant. Its pretty cool that its in the middle of residence neighborhood. We waited for 30 to 40 minutes before we got seated. The thing is theirs no waiting space to wait & were blocking the door so when theirs people going in its kinda annoying to keep on moving to the side. Servers are nice but the food takes forever to come. We ordered 4 types of food. For us it taste okay but nothing's really special. I'm still happy I tried this spot because my friend from nj highly recommend this place. read more

I was excited to try this place as it came highly recommended, but as soon as we walked in that anticipation quickly went away. After standing inside waiting for a few minutes to see how long the wait would be without being acknowledged we headed over to the bar. When asking the "bartender" (let's be real they only pour wine at an Italian restaurant) how long the wait would be she responded with an eye roll like we were inconveniencing her, and said oh I don't know maybe 45 minutes. Quite the contrast to the friendly woman who had answered the phone earlier in the night when I called asking about reservations. Considering I've felt more welcomed at any Olive Garden we didn't wait to see if it actually was 45 minutes, and probably won't in the future. read more

Excellent old school Italian. Reminds me of places I went to in NYC. that are gone now. 1. Decor: intimate, a home in a residential neighborhood converted to the restaurant. Intimate, cozy romantic atmosphere. 2. Prices: Moderate, $40 per person without drinks and tips. 3. Portions: Large, you will not go away hungry. 4. Food: Veal Parmesan the most tender melt in your mouth veal I ever had, out of this world. Eggplant parmigiana equally exceptional, tender not too cheesy, eggplant flavor comes through, great tomato sauce. We also had their fried Calamari, artichoke hearts and clams Oreganata. The clams were perfect, the right relation of clam and breading, too often restaurants chop the clams and over bread them, these were just perfect, whole fresh clams and a little breading! The artichoke hearts, a typical household Italian dish were over salted, too bad really otherwise it was well done. The Calamari was really well done as well, except they could have cut it into smaller pieces, I never used a knife on calamari until now. But that said not over breaded and just right, really good. All in all a great experience, we will be back, I'll ask to go easy on the salt next time, but the food is otherwise great. read more

Lacio's is literally everything one could want in an Italian joint. This place is old school in terms of appearance and service. Service is attentive, but do not expect to be smothered like you are at a chain restaurant. These people have worked here for 30 years and they know what they are doing. The food was, frankly, better than I expected. The calamari/fried shrimp appetizer come pre-tossed in a spicy marinara which was absolutely excellent. For my entrée I had a pork chop with long hot peppers. The pork chop was excellent, fantastic char on the outside gave it great texture and the meat was divine. My companion had the chicken parm which was also excellent. Anyone who is complaining about waiting, or the service being somewhat informal clearly does not know what kind of establishment this is. read more

Laico's is a timeless institution when it comes to classic Italian cuisine. Everything I've ever ordered has been nothing short of perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I just hope they don't let kids, who don't know how to behave in a restaurant and the parents who refuse to stop them, in anymore. Decided to try this place on Father's Day. My family and I ordered various items on the menu. Nice variety of Italian dishes. Ordered the artichoke app, meat balls and two pasta dishes. The food is more than good enough throughout the classic Southern Italian menu but it's the setting that takes it to five stars. And that includes the clientele - the regulars as close to 1950s Italian American as anywhere outside a movie set these days is likely to get. Traditional to a comforting extreme: the tin ceiling with inset Tiffany glass panels, the old wood cozy full bar surround, the old house on a completely residential nondescript working class street, complete with no parking anywhere (it's all private driveways). Loud! because everyone's having a good time. The place is packed at dinner hours, the waiters crazy busy and then busy attentive to you when they (not you) are ready. But it's ok. The bread starts you off right - exceptional crusty flavorful. The apps - fried calamar, fried zucchini, brocoli raab, the escarole and bean and sausage soup, and the rest - perfect. Forget Resy. What a hidden gem for Italian Cuisine in Jersey City! Classy, friendly and knowledgeable waiters, complimentary bread and salad, great food, valet parking, a but pricy but worth it! Visited Laico's for a friend's birthday after hearing many great things about it from friends. We weren't disappointed and came away impressed. Can't wait to go back here! Located in Jersey City's Greenville neighborhood, parking at times can be hard to come by in the vicinity, so valet parking was a welcome surprise. The restaurant is a bit hidden amongst a residential community, but upon entering the mood was very classy, welcoming and home-y. The service was like clockwork, precise and fast. The waiter was extremely friendly and immensely knowledgeable about the menu, giving us great recommendations! Upon sitting down, they served us complimentary bread and fresh salad. We decided to go with the Spicy Fried Shrimp ($13.95) as an appetizer. Definately would recommend this, it's enough for 2-3 people and very tasty, and definately has a spicy kick to it. For the entree, I made a custom order of Blackened Salmon over Fettucini Alfredo. My friend got the Paglia e Fiano with Shrimp and Scallops in a Creamy Vodka Sauce ($23.95). Both were absolutely delicious and again a hearty portion, which I couldn't finish after the appetizer and salad. We finished with a delicious Cappuccino, as well as Pound Cake and a mix of Pistachio and Hazelnut gelato for dessert! The Cappuccino was was smooth and tasty and the gelato was delicious, buy I probably will substitute another dessert next time (waiter recommended the Carrot Cake). Overall a great place to go out for a special occasion or with friends to catch up and have a nice conversation. read more

Parking around this restaurant is a nightmare, but I guess I can't blame them for that. The staff was friendly and helpful but I found our waiter to be kind of pushy. He asked us if we wanted drinks at least three times in under a minute, even though we told him we wanted some time to look at the menu. He was just as pushy about dessert, but that is not my biggest problem with the place. I ordered spicy sausage pizza, which was light on sausage and cheese with the spiciness appearing to come from hot sauce. The thing tasted as if someone had for hot sauce on it instead of actually using spicy sausage to get flavor. It was just bad and the coffee was no better. Who knew? Really, I mean this place is so random in the middle of a residential 'hood. We pull into a driveway of a house. We see a sign for Valet. We walk in. Stares. Yes, stares. "Um, yes, hi, two? and is there valet?" I ask. The gruff man behind the bar, "Yes. Yes, anywhere you want." My man hands the car keys over to Valet and we walk to the back room away from the somewhat crowded bar of locals aged 35-70. My man taps a man on his shoulder, "Councilman, so nice to see you," they shake hands and shoot the breeze for 5 minutes. The 20 men at the bar are eyeing me up like they haven't seen a young(ish) girl in years. I feel flattered and embarrassed all at the same time. We sit in the back and a tall Jersey guy who'se our waiter drops off the menu and the specials. OMG, everything looks amazing. All the Italian classics. Waiter comes back and says get the spicy shrimp, the pork chop special and something else you'll be good to go. We went with the eggplant and veal parmigiana combo special. A big and delicious salad along with a piping hot bread basket is set before us. Awesome. The spicy shrimp came out. I was a skeptic, I don't always love baby shrimp. They were amazing. The red sauce with hot red peppers sauteed in the sauce. The shrimp crispy and perfect. I was spooning the red sauce into my mouth. Potentially the best thing we had this evening. The eggplant and veal combo. It was $17 or $18 and it was delicious, perfectly cooked or should I say fried but, I agree with another reviewer that I was expecting a massive dish. It was two smaller pieces, easy to share but expensive. Now let me preface, I can be a fattie. So when I say smaller pieces, I mean regular size. It's just typically when one orders a parm dish you are guaranteed a meal for 3 days, that didn't happen. It came with a side of pasta. Meh. The pork chop was served on top of risotto. I again don't love risotto and it was good but, not the best. The pork chop on the other hand was amazing. Perfect. Juicy. It had a thick crust of marsala sauce almost caramelized. The mushrooms were thick cuts and were a perfect addition to the dish. Though the chop was perfectly cooked, I don't think I'd order again. I don't think the marsala complimented the chop. Overall, this meal was solidly delicious and I recommend. Lots of great Italian specialities, pretty good prices and I can't get enough of that old time feeling of walking into an Italian mob film. read more

Details: It looks very obscure from outside, but don't let that fool you. On a Saturday night, Laicos was buzzing at the seams and what's more everyone seemed to be having a blast. The burst of energy as soon as we set foot instead took us by surprise, as it looked more like a haunted guest house from outside ;) Are there better (and better priced) Italian restaurants in JC? Yes, probably. But Laicos is a vintage gem that must be nourished. Since the place is not BYOB, the average cost per person with apps and drinks is approximately $40 per head. If that sounds like a lot, I suggest you stop by for just apps and drinks or choose your courses wisely. We got the Fried Calamari and Baked Artichoke hearts with bread crumbs to start with. The calamari with the fresh marinara sauce on the side was great - crunchy, and just right. The artichoke was moist and delicious - a good accompaniment to the calamari. For the mains we opted from the specials of the day - Branzino with spinach, garlic and beans, Filet of sole and Fettuccine with mushrooms and peas. Everything was great and plentiful - suggest eating Italian style and sharing the mains if you can as the portions are more than generous. For dessert we got the pistachio gelato and they gave us extra scoops to share among the four of us. That's so generous and thoughtful. Our waitress was Grace and she has spent a lifetime at Laicos - she was delightful through out the evening. Laico's left me very impressed. I was going to tell the Uber driver he was lost because we were in the residential area, when he told me we had arrived. Much to my surprise, the restaurant even offered valet parking. Laico's has been open for about 40 years now and it has that old school feel. The place is super cozy, good bar space, clean, and great service. *Restaurant week! Salimah RSVP'd for table of 9 and it was all ready for us when we arrived. The restaurant week menu offered an app/entree/and dessert all for $38. After receiving all three plates - they were not stingy on the portion sizes. This was a great deal. It gave me a good idea of what to order the next time I am back. App-Fried spicy shrimp & calamari: Delicious, nice kick to it. Entree- Grilled salmon & asparagus w/ choice of pasta or vegetables on the side. The salmon could have used a bit more flavor. This was my least favorite plate. Dessert- Italian pound cake with ice cream: amazing...so so good. I had a great time at Laico's. There's a reason why places like this are around for many many years! read more

We came on a Saturday night and sat in the outdoor tent, the tables had a healthy distance between them, we were giving paper menus which were thrown away after use. All of the staff wore masks and tended to us in a timely manner. Will definitely be returning! read more

A little on the salty side, but the heavy garlic and fresh herbs were on point. Don't let that sauce go to waste, you better use up all your bread to soak it up) *pork chop in marsala sauce (this pork chop was cooked so perfectly!!! super juicy thick cut of meat; the sauce didn't overwhelm the meat at all; the portion size is quite large and I could only eat half of it; this is worth your money and I can totally see why they are known for this dish) *hazelnut gelato (I wonder what company they get this from because I really enjoyed this; they put two scoops in a large plate decorated with chocolate sauce and whipped cream; I could have honestly done with just two scoops in a bowl haha) This place is small but rather cozy. A hidden gem indeed. Located on a residential block it can be very hard to find parking but it's worth the trip. They have valet parking which fits about 4-5 cars, but it never seems too crowded here. The inside is: dark and dressed in old school furnishings. They have a long wooden bar with several TVs playing whatever game is on, front seating area and a section in the back as well. The menu has: a slew of traditional Italian dishes and all entrees come with a fresh house salad and delicious warm bread. The wine list is extensive and everything is moderately price. The service is: decent. We were served by the same girl on both visits - forgot her name. She was very pleasant and professional on both occasions. The food was: good. Don't get me wrong the food has the potential but I think I did a bad job in choosing dishes. My shrimp francese lacked flavor and the pasta, which I had tossed in the same sauce, also lacked flavor. The shrimps were legit and nicely sized - however not all were properly cleaned. Huge pet peeve. On my second visit, I had the chicken rollatine which was doused in marsala wine sauce. I actually like marsala sauce but this time it didn't work. I, again, get the pasta in the same sauce so it was a lose/lose for me. My boyfriend loved his dishes and I agree - they were good. So this is why I say I chose the wrong dishes. I went with the safe choices. The drinks were: delicious! My oh my that red sangria is good. The first time around we couldn't have any because they ran out of the ingredients. I noted to myself this can mean one of two things: 1. It is so amazing that they sell them quickly in full pitchers - so they ran out. or 2. They suck so hard that they rarely ever order ingredients - so they ran out. In this case, it was the former.
