Oh man, what should I say here? First off let's start off with what worked here for us. They have a nice table outside, by the entrance. It would make a nice date corner, too bad I didn't notice it cuz I would have sat there instead of inside as the patio was closed apparently at 4pm.. the interior is kept clean, the tables were spotless and the menu was concise. Perfect menu for a restaurant of this size. Now the bad part, we found the food to be extremely bland. For $18 i got a flattened slice of chicken breast with little to no flavor and my wife's flautas also had no flavor. Yes they were hot but really lacked flavor unfortunately. I was so disappointed because I follow them on IG and the food always looks so good. Now to be fair we perhaps should have ordered mole or a tlayuda but I wasn't in the mood for that and I like to judge a restaurant by ordering simple plates that should be staples like grilled chicken breast or some flautas. Those really should be standard go to meals. The rice and beans were standard and the salad was super crisp and clean. I liked the sliced avocado, that was a nice touch. I will also have to say that while others pointed out the rude waiters/waitresses our waiter wasn't rude but def wasn't a people person. Felt a bit off putting of sorts... Great service and great food! It was easy to find free street parking on a Sunday and we were able to get seated quickly. The service was attentive and friendly. My wife ordered an egg breakfast and asked for egg whites due to an allergy concern to egg yolks. The grumpy old gentleman said he couldn't make it for her because he is using fresh eggs. Last time I checked it isn't too hard to separate egg yolks from egg whites using fresh eggs. Now if it would've been eggs out of a container or such I would completely understand. But he wouldn't even consider our request or even ask the chef or anything. My kids love the quesadilla and fries and my wife and I enjoy the birria burrito. The portions are very large and we all left feeling satisfied. What a gem! The patio is gorgeous, the service is great, and the food and drink so good! The front is a bit unassuming but when you make your way to the back area, that's where the magic is at, where they've turned the parking behind the restaurant into an inviting garden like outdoor seating area. They have excellent margaritas and micheladas (I obviously had me a good time here). They do the "standard" Mexican restaurant favorites, but their focus and specialty is oaxacan style. The Tlayuda (the true Mexican pizza), the size of your face and then some, is an entire platter of goodness. The mole negro? What is it that they say in that coffee commercial I grew up with? Oh yeah, good to the last drop. The salsas and guacamole are fire. The chips are plentiful. You will not leave disappointed and you definitely will not leave hungry! Given this guy too many chances. Never again. This pic is a 'to-go' order for enchiladas (hard to tell as it looks like it was all put into a blender & poured into the container). I live less than 3 blocks away. There's no way it wasn't already like that when I picked it up. I do a lot of takeout & the degree of mess this was genuinely shocked me. I spent more time trying to clean up/seperate & serve it onto a new plate than it took to drive there & pick it up. I'm also tired of places that use recent inflation as an excuse for continuously overpricing & undercutting for *years*. Main reason I stopped going here years ago is bcs they won't run their AC, even during summer. As a result, it always smells like an old folks home where they're not taking good care of the old folks. Other cute 'savings' measures I recall were really off-putting like: Complimentary chips only being offered at lunch (even if requested during breakfast hours). Soups don't come w a side of rice (you can order/pay for it as an extra side order). Also lukewarm bottles of purchased beverages which DON'T come w a glass of ice. If you request ice, you get an attitude & told its extra. The customer service ranges from non-existent to downright rude/dismissive, & the owner should reconsider being in this business if he dislikes interacting w other people as much as he makes sure to show everyone he does.
