Was craving some banh beo so my BF and I decided to go and get a whole tray of it. It was $20 for 100 pieces of banh beo. Didn't know where to try it so decided to give this place a try since it was close. In the same plaza as the ABC Supermarket, but on the order side in the corner. Don't come at night...they didn't have anything on the counters at all. The lady asked me what I wanted and she said she would get it for me right away. Decent place to pick up Vietnamese dishes party sized. Portions have gone down though while the prices have gone up. Food: An array of different Vietnamese catering in small and large sizes already in trays set up in the middle of the shop. Prices written on the plastic wrapping. Single servings of the dishes are placed on the counter where you pay. Choices range from the usual fried rice, chow mein, egg rolls, spring rolls, etc. What my mom usually gets here are the banh beo, banh bot loc, banh nam, banh it tran. All are pretty good, nothing that makes them standout though. Portions used to be bigger a couple years back. The trays had more food in them and were a little cheaper. Now you get less food but have to pay more, blame the economy for that but it's honestly not worth it for us. Service: They answer any questions you have, not sure if they speak English well though. Pick what you want, pay and you should be out the door quickly. They also take pre-order if you want to be sure they have what you need when you come. Not sure if there's a limit on how much you need to order for them to make it pre-order. Location: Inside the oh so busy ABC Market plaza. If you go here, they encourage line cutting and expect the people there to lie and/or blame you for anything they can (they let a person cut in line and take my catering order because... she ordered ahead of time they claimed - LIE: I heard her say she had not ordered ahead) then changed the reason it to me being late to pick it up (4:50 instead of 4:30 BUT what does that have to do with letting people cut in line arbitrarily?). Another staple place to go when ordering food for large parties. I ordered my appetizers here for my wedding and served them as hor d'oeuvres and everyone loved them! I also recently ordered a few things for my niece's birthday party which were all very tasty and affordable including goi ga, nem nuong spring rolls, and banh nam. I did phone in the order first, and at first they said they didnt have my order but later realized they had spelled my English name wrong. I love this place and I don't care if it looks dirty. They have some of the best nem nuong rolls. I love their banh nam. If you don't see what you want already packaged on the table, they will prepare it for you if you ask in any size you want. Lam Van is a pretty awesome restaurant. Food is soo good from the spring rolls with the crunchy skin, rice cakes with powdery shrimp topping, and the ever so delicious "Fish Sauce Wings". The fish sauce wings can make anyone's taste buds go hay wire, they are salty, sweet, a little fatty, and crunchy delicious. Picked up some catering food here for my sister in law daughters birthday party. We got the nam nuong rolls which were just as good as Brodards but cheaper. They also had good egg rolls. Will def order from here again if we ever have a party. The only thing I didn't like was waiting for our food when we had asked them to be picked up by a certain time and they were 45 mins late and they gave us the wrong order when we picked up the food.
