I went in and there was no one behind the counter. there was a lady at the table eating. I told her I wanted to put in a to go order and she asked me what I wanted. I told her the curry shrimp with cabbage, plantains and corn bread. she replied with"I don't need you to tell me the sides. " I asked her does all that stuff com with it . then she told me I would have to wait in her to finish eating and she asked me if I wanted my shrimp hot or mild. I went to wait in my car and then I realized that I am use to having amazing customer service and that was not it. I do not recommend this place. The serving size for the $20 I payed was laughable and the goat was very under seasoned. The rice was bland and the cornbread was plain. The only good thing was the plantains honestly. If you want good Jamaican food in this area I suggest you try Island Kitchen! read more

Love Jamaican food, especially oxtails. Just moved to Pensacola and was looking for some good oxtails and came across this place. They definitely make you feel welcomed and like family. Everyone was super nice and I appreciated that, not being from here. I got the large oxtail plate (cornbread, plantain, cabbage, rice and peas and of course oxtails) I don't eat plantain and I usually don't eat cornbread but I ate this one and it was very good. The whole meal was very good, not unsatisfied at all. Will definitely be my go to spot for oxtails! read more

I've finally found a AUTHENTIC Caribbean restaurant! Everything was DELICIOUS!!! Let's start with the delicious Beef Patty!! OMG I couldn't buy one! I finished two patties before I got in the car!! The tea's are homemade and delicious! Everything made authentic and with LOVE!! I can't have spicy food so Mrs. Lana personally made my Large barbecue chicken plate! Every inch was made to order and perfectly!!! She made me a salad instead of the spicy cabbage and she made me steamed rice due to my not liking peas! It was like my MOM made my plate!!! Worth every penny!! I spent $30 trying multiple items! I AM GOING BACK!! I never ate plantains but Mrs. Lana WON ME OVER!! The cornbread was made like my Momma's!! Then she made homemade pound cake and cut me my own slice to try!!! Love at first meet! This is my new "SPOT!" Especially when I want authentic Caribbean cuisine!!! Will not be returning. There are only 2 jamaican restaurants here in pensacola (if you know of any others PLEASE MESSAGE ME) and they are just not up to par at all. I went here hoping that this place would be good, sorely mistaken. The inside was very warm and had that old house smell (I know other people said moldy). Outdated seating and decor and junky behind the counter space. I went and ordered the dinner oxtail meal, he told me it would be a 10 min wait, which was fine. Meal was ready within 10 mins, paid the $13 and left. On my way home, I tried the meat, OMG it was soooo SALTY. I couldn't believe how salty it was, and the meat was tough, even the fatty areas, I couldn't even chew the first bite. Thinking the meal would be a disaster I stopped at McDonalds for a back up meal, and I was glad I did. When I got home I tried other pieces of meat, all salty and unable to chew. Couldn't even pierce it with real silverware. I should have taken it back and got my money back. The rice and beans were bland even with the gravy which thankfully wasn't salty. I did enjoy the plaintains and the corn and cabbage. So I basically had a vegetarian meal since I didn't eat the meat. They also gave you a store bought roll. Definitely not worth getting high blood pressure eating here and paying money for the lack of edible food. Will not be returning, will rather drive to some places I've found in Alabama. read more

Lana's is the first and last word in Jamaican cooking in Pensacola, FL. A family run restaurant it's easy to dismiss the slightly run down two story it serves out of, but that would be a mistake. With a decidedly casual environment Lana's serves up a number of authentic dishes including Jerk Chicken, Curried Goat, Fried Plantains, and Ox Tail. The prices are a smidgen more than I would have cared to pay considering the quantity of the food, but they weren't exorbitant. The food is prepared fresh, and the flavor is excellent. Though people usually come for the chicken, the real show stopper for me was the curried goat. The meat practically melts in your mouth, and the mild Caribbean curry compliments it perfectly. However both me and a my friend found that the chicken and the goat had entirely too many bones. Normally speaking bones aren't a problem, but the sheer quantity of bone took away from both the food itself, as well as the enjoyability of the dish. Overall the food is worth the time it takes to eat, as well as the trip to the somewhat remote location Lana's calls home. read more

This is the worse restaurant I've ever been to. The tables were as dirty as the proprietors's attitude. Firstly the sign say open at 11:00am but wasn't open until 13:00hrs. Walked out after ordering a beer due to poor customer service and owners arrogance. Most food on the menu was prepared overnight. Would never recommend this location to my worse enemy! P.S. Somebody reported this place as closed which is pretty hilarious seeing that this place NEEDS to be CLOSED. I seen a previous review that this place was kind of sketchy and that's an UNDERSTATEMENT. It's very clear that these people live here in the building, additionally the place reeked of a mildew smell. Worst experience of my life. I love my Jamaicans rude but he was rude and cocky for no reason. He made his food seem like the next best thing since God.... And had the nerve to put cinnamon in his oxtails and rice and peas. Who the hell puts cinnamon in their Jamaican food to cook? I'm afraid to burp because the cinnamon taste is so disturbing, sad part was I only took one bite before I decided to get the hell out of there. I know Jamaican food very well, and this is an horrible excuse for Jamaican food PERIOD. You have been warned! I love the relaxed environment at Lana's. Its almost like you just walked into someone's house and are paying them to make you a meal. The Ox tail is delicious as well as the curry goat.. watch out for bone pieces though. I also liked how the guy heard me asking my friend about the jerk chicken and just brought me out a piece to try without me asking. I went to this Restaurant with a friend on Wednesday. The lady that served us was very nice and the food was great. Be aware that they don't accept credit or debit cards although it is posted on the door. It is not an elegant restaurant so don't expect it. The food was a bit pricey for me. I believe that they do monopolize the fact that they are the only Jamaican Restaurant in the area. The total amount I paid for a lunch size curry goat w/white rice, a piece of cake, 2 beef patties and a large ginger beer was about $24. In NY I can get the same items for about $10. The next days friends and I tried to go back for lunch but there was a chain with a lock on the door. The open sign was still posted. Others have complained that the hours of operation are inconsistent although the times are posted on the door. Overall, I think this restaurant is okay but they should lower prices are at least have them posted so that you are not surprised when you get the bill and open when the sign says it should be open. read more

Yes this is a small place not a huge, fancy restaurant but the food is bomb! Lana is a sweet lady and she loves to satisfy her customers. I am Bahamian-American, carribean food is my favorite and Lana hits the spot everytime. I've been eating here over a year now. Jerk chicken, oxtails, curry chicken and I love her cabbage! There are people reporting negative things and saying her restaurant is closed down but I'm sitting in here right now waiting on my oxtails and my sister's jerk chicken plate. Great family owned restaurant. The owner was super nice! Talked to is like we were family. Pretty run down, not what I was expecting, but we are there anyways. The jerk chicken my husband loved. It was pretty expensive, but I like helping small businesses and she was extremely nice. It's worth the a shot. You either hate it or like it. Will I come back!?
