5/4/24 We happened to drive by, so we stopped for lunch. It's a bit of an old-fashioned building. Mariana was friendly and had a bubbly personality. Helpful. We ordered the specials which came with soup/salad, entrée and desert. Chicken Matzo Ball Soup - this was good Manhattan Clam Chowder - hubby liked it, and it was his soup, so that's all that matters. But I thought it was strange that it was creamy as Manhattan style is supposed to be tomato based. Lobster Ravioli in Pink Sauce - omg, this was delicious! I wanted more, lol. The lobster ravioli itself was just meh, but the pink sauce was delicious. Broiled Brook Trout - hubby liked it, but it wasn't that flavorful. The corn/carrot and mash were generic. Chocolate Mousse - the cake part is a bit dry, the mousse part is good. Wish it was just mousse part. Rice Pudding - nice cinnamon flavor, but the rice was undercooked. read more

Stopped here for breakfast in the morning before work. The place was pretty big. A lot of seating is available, but it was mainly empty. We got our order taken quickly. The server was tentative. I ordered the Cajun eggs Benedict, but I opted for pork roll instead of Canadian bacon. It took a bit long, but I think only 1 guy was in the kitchen from the angle I was sitting in. I can make out what's going on. Anyhow, the food was good. I ate it all and have no complaints about that. I would stop by again and try something different and see how that goes. read more

We've been to this place 3 times now and every time we went there there was absolutely no problems. Good and service was great with no problems to speak of. What threw us a real curve all when they said they had pizza. Instead of having a diners usually frozen reheated pizza, the pizza was freshly made from scratch and took us for a curve all. It was better than some pizzerias. Threw them a curve ball with the toppings, they nailed it right on. Pizza was very good like the other food we had ordered there 2 times before. You can get food there 24 hours and they deliver. We never had a problem with the service, the food, or the management, every single time everything was A+ with no problems. This is our own experience and are not fluffing things up. The 3 key factors of service, management and food we walked out of this place without any problems. And yet to see any proof of the negative comments. We have our own review site and are going to try the same foods and comment about them that customers so called were no so great and give you the real story. But the Land and Sea Diner in Fairview NJ has NEVER let us down with the 3 main areas that are important. If there was a problem, we would say it point blank, but it has good food, good service and good management. Like we said we yet to see any evidence of any of the claims of what these negative that leave comments state. I have heard that this place was bad, but I couldn't imagine HOW bad. I went with my boyfriend's family, it was not by choice. The only positive thing was that our waitress was lovely. The fried artichoke and mozzarella sticks (not pictured) were horrible. They were barely cooked and tasteless. The sauce is practically inedible. The ravioli was freezing cold and tasteless. The food was incredible. 1) The mashed bread goop patties were awesome. Not sure why the restaurant calls them crab cakes, not a single crab was used. Just bread. Maybe these are "vegan crab cakes". I've never had better bland, soggy bread. 2) The chicken quesadillas were unbelievable. Since my order was an hour late, the cheese had hardened into this interesting waxy substance that lovingly blanketed the dry, stringy pieces of chicken. They were too delicious so I had to throw them in the garbage. 3) The wings left me speechless. I'm almost positive the restaurant uses baby chicks given how small the wings were. Very exotic! This was the second time I've ordered from this placed first time was just as bad but figured I'd try it again and it was also the only place that was open while I was at work since my favorite chicken place was closed. The muffins flavor was absolutely horrible and make me nauseous! The pancakes were hard as a rock and the eggs were disgusting. If you can avoid this place definately do so! This diner is a no. I ordered a BLT wrap with chicken for pickup. The chicken was very wet, which grossed me out. I asked for light mayo, only for my wrap to have a nice pool of it at each bottom half. As a whole, the wrap had no flavor, and the side of fries wasn't appetizing. What irritated me the most was the poor packaging. I can understand leaving a small gap so the fries don't get soggy, but my container was pretty much wide open. It would better to poke some holes at the top or sides or vent it a lot less. A small cup of coleslaw with a pickle on top was wrapped in a piece of wax paper and tossed in the container. The coleslaw leaked all over my desk, so I was mad! A few of my coworkers have tried L&S and find the food to be boring, tasteless and below average diner food. They need a renovation inside and a revamp of the menu because everything seems old, outdated and boring compared to the local competition. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Called 6 times, still didn't get our food, even after it had been 45 minutes past the quoted latest wait time. "Peter" was the only person I could get on the phone and he was a complete jerk. Continued to call me "honey" after I asked him not to do so, couldn't get in touch with his driver, which is of course not his fault, but the place obviously needs more reliable drivers who answer their phone. Promised me a refund which didn't show up, called back to confirm it was processed, was hung up on twice by a female colleague and was then yelled at by him. We've gone here twice, first time we got burnt toast as a former waitress the rule is, if you won't eat it don't serve it. Second time was today, they sat us and said our server would be right with us. Literally 10 minutes later no one has acknowledged us so we walked out and went to The Hawthorne Diner and had a fabulous meal. No go. Went here once late night a few years back...the place was creepy (the server and other guests were creepy) and the food was not good so this is not an option for us. I wish there was a way to filter yelp options and screen out the restaurants that are not on my list for consideration so I don't have to scroll past and be reminded of all the terrible places in NJ that I'll never go back to. FOOD POISON ALERT!!! The owner of this dive obviously never checks the freshness of the food. Two times now I received foul smelling/tasting chicken had to be thrown out. --- They could care less how the food is prepared. Fries are always soggy, rolls are always stale, soup never tastes freshly made. --- Used to be a better diner but isn't worth spending a nickel at this grease pit. I ate at Land and Sea Diner weekly for either breakfast to go, or lunch to go, on some occasions I was actually able to eat in the dining room, but that was rare but service was great. They have a pretty extensive menu (don't all diners)? but here they have pretty good stuff. So my choices were specific the Three Decker turkey sandwich, chicken salad sandwich or tuna salad sandwich YUM! the BLT no joke good stuff I always asked for extra mayo on the side. Cheeseburger deluxe perfect with fries well done and a side of gravy to dip them in. The Chicken fingers were okay, but the potato skins pretty addictive, one day their delivery guy brought 5 orders to our office, none of us gals knew we each ordered the same thing for lunch. The Greek salad was good ordered that often .. but it was the breakfasts that I dug. All day all the time-- sometimes the pancakes were too hard to pass up and the eggs benedict was always a pleasure. I usually ordered through GrubHub, but I found that if I ordered directly from the restaurant, I got it a lot faster and less items were missing. My last work meal was in April 2016 because I no longer worked in Fair Lawn...but I have been there since to actually sit and enjoy my breakfast there and it was a treat. read more

My husbands zest sandwich was also super soggy and the chicken tasted old. The ceasar salad it came with was placed in the same container and just soggy and gross. We had to throw it all away. I have ordered quite often from this establishment. I work close and at night it is one of the few options for decent food. I have always been satisfied with their food. Their menu is quite expansive abs everything is prepared as expected. Tonight I ordered once again and I was notified after my order that there was an additional 3 dollar + charge for extra dressing. I'll start off by stating that my better half and myself have ordered here several times with no real issues as to quality or taste. However, the picture is of a buffalo chicken wrap- the lettuce was brown upon receiving food. My husband and I dissected the wrap seeing if the lettuce was brown throughout- Yes, it sure was. I didn't get a picture of the salad I received, but it looked fresh. I was able to eat half of my salad when during I became extremely nauseated and ultimately vomited with extreme GI discomfort for hours afterwards. My co-workers threw my salad away while I was sick in the restroom at work. Highly unacceptable that my salad & wrap were almost $42.00 and virtually inedible. My wife and I live a few blocks from L & S and have been their patrons for many, many years. We thoroughly appreciate their food and their continued efforts updating their menus and improving the appearances of the diner over the years. However, we noticed the lack of management's and staff's 'personal friendly touch'. We respectfully suggest management and servers not sit behind the front door counter or in the empty front booths while not paying attention to their customers. Management and servers should understand the importance of making their presence known to their guests by frequently mingling and being friendly with them. Finally, we respectfully point out that upon entry into the restaurant, the view appears to lack a welcoming "cheerfulness". Though it may cost L & S some extra $$$$, we think lighting should be brighter in the main counter and 'booth' areas; Maybe consider "blue-sky" colored bulbs, not the dimmed or dull colored bulbs that are suitable for the formal dining areas. We wish L & S the best and our hopes they will continue being the Fair Lawn landmark place to go as it always has been. read more

Fried calamari barely cooked, very chewy, tasted like cooked in old oil still was charged after complaining to waitress manager never even came over. Soda (spite) was flat no taste. This is the first time I've ever ordered from Land & Sea. It will also be my last. I ordered 3 Philly style sliders (I really love a good slider ) and I was thrilled when I got to take that big first best bite and find that the inside was c o m p l e t e l y pink! I'm pretty certain I specified for them to be cooked WELL DONE. I was really upset. Luckily, my boyfriend took the time to put the burgers back on the stove and cook them thoroughly, the way they're SUPPOSED TO BE. (He seasoned them, too cause Lord knows they needed it.) The main attraction here is Land and Sea is open 24 hrs a day. The Background I got in late and hungry to Paramus, popped open Seamless and this was the *ONLY* restaurant open for delivery. Given this was the one and only sign of life I could find in New Jersey at this time of night on the eve before Thanksgiving, my expectations going into this were not exactly in the stratosphere. In fact I was sufficiently anxious about my dinner choice that I ordered a backup meal, just in case my first choice was a not good. The Computer / Information Systems term for this is a disaster Recovery Plan. Salt Free So my first choice was sautéed Sole with a vegetable. I picked it because it sounded healthy. It was healthy, but really hard for me to eat. I have never had a meal so devoid of salt. This must have been freshwater sole because, a sea water sole would have at least had a lingering memory of its saltwater existence that I could have tasted. I swear the cook must have had really high blood pressure and was determined to lead a life untouched by sodium, because this meal was cooked without a molecule of salt coming within 10 feet of it. Now if I was eating in the restaurant, and there was a salt shaker on the table, this would not have been such a disaster. However it was 2am in the morning in a locked down hotel with no sign of any hotel staff let alone anyone that might have access to salt. I could not even find any oyster crackers to crumble for their salt content. I can eat anything when I am hungry, but this really pushed my limits. Disaster Recovery Activated My disaster recovery choice was the veal with artichoke and mushrooms. Also cooked without salt I might add, but clearly the artichokes had soaked in brine and some of that brine had infused itself into the meal, making this a much more viable option. This was Ok. If it had a little more salt, I could even imagine it had the potential to be quite good. Now don't get me wrong, I am not a salt-o-holic. I really don't like my food too salty, but if you have ever tried to eat a stick of unsalted butter, in one mouthful, you will have a better understanding of what a buttery meal that is totally devoid of salt tastes like. If I had access to sodium, I may have scored this differently, but given the circumstance, I abandoned the sole, ate half of the veal, and fell asleep dreaming about eating unhealthy salty foods all night long. read more

The waiter was attentive and polite. The service was impeccable. I ordered the calamari appetizer. It was good. Used the restroom. The rest room had a foul septic odor. We disregarded it. My 7 year old had sliders that she enjoyed. My main course was a roast beef panini. It smelled and tasted rotten. I took one bite, spit it out. It was unfortunate. I let them know it did not smell good. Paid my bill and left. I didn't ask for an adjustment to my bill nor a replacement meal. I kind of lost my appetite. In the end I was disappointed. read more
