So much history going to this place - 15 years on and off visiting this bar and restaurant. 2004 we watched the Red Sox break a Curse, 'Tek fighting A-Rod, and a whole lot of other meaningful sports games. Ring that bell! So I move away for work reasons, and recently visited again. Same bar, same awesome decor of license plates, canoes, and old local business signs, and the same good food. Yes it is a tourist destination, but it's also great place for the locals after the season. The food really has not changed, it is surf and turf and it is consistently good but not great. It is possible to find better nearby, but not with as big of selection. They now serve beer from the local breweries on Cape Cod on top of their already huge selection of drinks and cocktails. Bad service from 2 separate waitresses. We got there around 9:30. Full menu supposedly served until 10:00 pm. About 9:50 a group of 3 women came in & asked about the menu & were told it was now only bar food. They left. The clam chowder tasted like canned Progresso. Chicken wings & chicken strips were unremarkable. You'd have to be a local fucking drunk to frequent this establishment. Awesome bar feel inside. Old signs and license plates dot the original dark wood walls. It was completely packed when we arrived, had to wait a couple minutes at noon. Great diverse menu with something for everyone. The veggie burger was excellent, freshly made, not frozen. Shoestring fries were extra and very good. Potato skins with peppers and onions and cheese were also freshly made and not premade, potatoes quartered and baked with all the fixings. Clam chowder was excellent, even my son enjoyed it. Food was good, service was horrendous. So many reviews here mention the absolutely nasty woman with the dark hair and ponytail and it's true. I had the apparent audacity to ask her where the bathroom was (how awful of me) and she ignored me. I politely asked her again and instead of simply pointing or asking me to wait, she was incredibly rude and condescending. Truly don't know why she still has a job. Service was awful but being in hospitality I try to be forgiving, especially this year. Waitress was uninterested in making sure we had a decent experience. Food was cold and I could of bought it at stop and shop. I ordered an appetizer of calamari and got a dinner order. When I asked the server I was told "it's only a dollar more." My soup came out spilled over on to the underlying plate, calamari had no taste it needed seasoning and the jalapeño poppers were what you can buy at the grocery store. American cheese in a pickled pepper. Just a really solid Cape Cod Fish and burgers place. They have my favorite Clam Chowder on the Outer Cape - the fish is always fresh, and I'm told the burgers are good. The seafood cakes are yummy in a comfort food way - not a fan of the crab cakes, but after crab cakes in the Chesapeake area, I've been ruined for any other version. The Land Ho has been in Orleans as long as I can remember. I've eaten there probably a dozen time. I haven't been there in at least 5 years. The restaurant is fine. The atmosphere is great! There are wonderfully kitschy signs hung all over and the checkered tablecloths invoke a cope cod seafood joint kind of feel. It's nice. The service we received on this particular visit was slow. Our waitress asked if we wanted drinks and began to leave and when we told her we wanted to order appetizers, she came back seemingly reluctantly. When she returned with our drinks I noted the glasses were small and though she refilled them several times during our visit, they were often empty as we waited for her to come back by. The food itself was mixed. I ordered a plate of fried scallops with fries and coleslaw that was quite tasty. The plate was crowded. The scallops were fresh and well prepared. the Fries were good. The coleslaw was a little sweet. Everyone else at the table got a burger. 2 people ordered the Burger of the Day (Avocado and Swiss - no substitutions) 1 Person ordered a Burger Salad. All three ordered them medium. None of them came out medium. The two burgers on buns had no pink left in them. They were medium-well to well. The Burger Salad was charred (in a good way) on the outside, but mushy and red in the middle. It was rare to medium-rare. Apart from not being the right temps, the burgers were reportedly good. Honestly the prices for this location felt a little steep even by cape cod standards. For 4 people to split 1 appetizer and get 2 soft drinks, 3 burgers, and a fried scallop plate, it was $85. Couple that with incorrectly cooked meat and slow service this place can only get a 3 rating from me. I won't avoid the Land Ho based on this experience. I won't seek it out either. If someone suggests it next time I'm on the cape, I'll go along and see if I have a better experience. This time, it was just okay. read more

I really don't know why I even try to go anywhere else. Land Ho has the best food, service and atmosphere. You can get all the regular food you expect on Cape Cod. But what is really remarkable are the specials. Like tonight, the swordfish with caprice mix, rice and vegetables. The swordfish was cooked perfectly, two pieces! I'm actually shocked that I haven't yet reviewed Land Ho - I've been going here for as long as I can remember, and that's a pretty long time. It's a great spot and much loved by both locals and tourists alike, with a long menu of fried seafood and daily specials like grilled local tuna or seared scallops. My favorite things on the menu have always been the fried clam strips, the stuffed quahog and the kale soup - all tasty and stick-to-your-ribs kind of food. While I remember the food being a lot better in the past, the spot itself is still a draw. The tasteful kitch of the decor is charming, and the bar is pretty great, with tons of draught beer options and any cocktail you can come up with. Be warned, though -this place is an absolute mob scene in the summertime, and the staff get cranky. I get cranky, too because the wait is long and the quality of the food suffers. Remember to steer clear of the burgers, as the last time my mom and I split one, the beef was certainly off and it shouldn't have been served. Stick with the fried seafood and soups, and you're good to go! read more

Wow, this place (or it's employees) totally discriminates against Asian people. We called ahead and were told dinner is served until 10pm, bar food after. We were excited and celebrating our engagement. We arrived at 9:50pm and the "bouncer" wouldn't let us in without ID even though the rule doesn't begin until 10pm. Then we were told by him and the lady working there sitting outside was no where else to get food except for Chinese Take-out and that we were out of luck. I lived in Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod for a couple years year-round, and for a couple summers after that. And, as anyone who's been there will tell you, that place sticks under your skin. I eventually left because it's a small-ass town and I felt like I had no anonymity and I was hitting a serious glass ceiling financially. But I miss it all the time. Cape Cod in the winter is my favorite time to go, and I go every New Year's. And I used to go more after I moved away. Because I would think about Provincetown every single day for a long time. I still think about it frequently. A friend of mine once went kayaking in late winter/early spring and a whale came up right next to her and swam along side of her for a while. I have never lived in a more beautiful place. So when I made the horrible decision to move to Northampton, MA, the first time I went back I went with my friend Toni and was dying for a stuffed clam. The drive to Ptown is horrendous. Now, if you're a tourist who comes once a year or something, that's different. You get all excited as you get closer and closer and the trees get smaller and more scraggly and dirt turns to sand and you can smell the ocean. That's cool. But if you just want to freaking get there, it sucks. The highway sucks and then that one-lane 30-mile-an-hour nonsense that happens towards the end of the trip. Also, Provincetown is really expensive. Really REALLY expensive. SO the best thing to do if you're dying for some seafood like a stuffed clam and you've driven several hours is to stop at Land Ho. It is the most reasonably priced food for the area, and right off the Orleans rotary and has great food and drink. And that, my friends, is how start your winter vacation in Cape Cod. read more

My wife, son and I were taking a day drive on Cape Cod and were recommended to stop at Land Ho for lunch by a friend of a friend of my son. It was a good recommendation. While the wait looked daunting (30+ minutes we were told when we arrived) only turned out to be about 20 minutes. The menu is varied enough to meet anyone's taste. My son had the fish and chips and said it was outstanding. Some have complained about the prices but you're in the middle of a tourist destination so that's to be expected. read more

Popular spot with a lively crowd. I guess we arrived at the right moment because we were seated promptly just before a flood of patrons walked through the front door. Our waitress could have been more pleasant, but it was a busy night, and we didn't let her attitude trouble us. The Cape Cod Reuben (fried fish, swiss, coleslaw and tartar) was pretty great. S was happy with her dinner special and her whiskey. Fun, funky atmosphere with local signs overhead and adorning the walls. Land Ho was my first stop in Orleans. It's true the Fish and Chips is on a whole other level out here. They have a couple local beers available as well including Hog Island on draft. My group of 7 was seated outside because it was crowded on a Friday night. However we were brought our food very quickly and it was delicious and warmed us up. I recommend the Lobster Roll. It was easy the most stuff Lobster option. However if you prefer go for the Lobster roll Salad. The roll isn't buttered. And of course a cup of claim chowder! read more

Cape Cod is filled from top to bottom with watering holes that serve fried seafood, strong drinks, and cater to both the year-long locals as well as tourists who return to the Cape (and the watering hole) year after year. To the naked eye, the Land Ho in Orleans would seem like just another one of these run of the mill, not particularly exciting places. But truth be told, there's a lot more to the Land Ho. Cape cuisine is far from elaborate or imaginative. People tend to order lobster rolls, cod fritters, clam strips, etc. The non-fish eaters will typically opt for a burger or steak tips. These are all perennial Cape bites, and because of this, long-running and successful Cape eateries cater to this type of palate. Accordingly, you will find all of this on the Land Ho menu, and while it's highly unlikely that you will walk out of there saying you just had the best fish sandwich of your life, it's even more unlikely that you will be disappointed. The food is solid and the price is decent. And now and then, there is a menu item that will really impress me. The GF and I were there not too long ago on a rainy Sunday night, and both were craving some desert. So we went with the blueberry pie a la mode, a special that night. It was excellent. So what makes the Land Ho deserving of a 5-star YELP rating? For me, it all comes down to the service. I'm social, and spend a good amount of time (and money) at bars and restaurants. And when I go somewhere repeatedly or often enough, I always feel a little flattered when a bartender or server remembers me, my name, and what I drink. I typically visit Cape Cod (Orleans, in particular) about six or seven times a year. And every time I do, Land Ho is one of my stops. Without fail, no matter how busy the bar may be (and it's busy more often than not), I'm greeted with a handshake and a friendly 'welcome back' from Jesse or Abe from behind the bar. They remember what I like to drink, they pour it well, and the conversation is always good. I also enjoy the blend of locals and out-of-towners that you can find at the Land Ho on any given night. This has lead to many interesting conversations over the years. During my last visit there, sitting not too far from us was a family who were obviously on vacation, watching a Boston Celtics game. And behind me were a couple of twenty-somethings on what seemed to be an awkward first date, drinking Brandy Alexanders (I didn't think anyone drank those anymore). One rainy July night several years ago, my buddy and I sat up at the bar and met an eccentric (but entertaining) local artist who told us various tales from his time living (and partying on the Cape), and a few summers back I got into a spirited discussion with another patron in regard to who was the more talented songwriter in The Eagles: Glenn Frey or Don Henley. Speaking of music, the digital juke box at Land Ho is a nice touch. Not many places in Orleans and the surrounding area have this, and when I'm parked at a bar for a couple of hours, I like to have some good music playing. $5 in the machine goes a long way, and coupled with the good drinks, makes me a happy camper. There's a festive vacation vibe that is always evident at the Land Ho. It could be the various old license plates nailed to the walls, or the surf-side decor, or maybe just that fact that the staff and the patrons all seem to be in a good mood. But whether you are there on a busy Saturday night in July or a mellower weeknight off-season, you're likely to enjoy yourself. read more

My rugby team was looking for a nice place to have team dinner while out on the Cape for a rugby tournament in Eastham and yelp led me to Da' Ho. Our party of 10 plus a baby was seated immediately on a Friday night. Our server left us a pitcher of water to make sure we stayed hydrated. The food was pretty good, however out of the 10 meals, my teammate that chose the clams got a bad batch. She got lots of sand in some bites and was sick later that evening, along with another teammate who had eaten 4 of her clams. The staff was gracious, tolerating our skit practice which involved singing an altered rendition of "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls. The locals were kind as well. Went here on a recent trip to the Cape. It's very busy, but we waited and were seated pretty quickly. It's a very crowded, loud and over decorated place. Which isn't all bad. It definitely has character. The food seemed a little pricey, but the portions ended up being very large. I had fried scallops that were very good. My husband got the fried clams that were a bit soggy, but not awful. The fries and coleslaw were good. The chowder was awesome! I would have given 4 stars for food but we had an awful waitress who never came back to our table for 40 minutes and at that point we had to catch her and ask for the check and give her our credit card without letting her walk away for fear we'd never see her again. Needless to say we had no drinks during our entire meal. So we started off happy but ended very aggravated. It's worth a try with the hopes you get a better waitress. read more

Went here on the way back from a 20 mile ride on the Cape Cod Bike trail. Walked from the trail to Land Ho which is right down the street. Excellent place for lunch. I sat at the bar on a weekend when they were slammed for service; 30 minute wait for a table! The bar was free so we sat there. The bartender was really busy but she was very attentive. A visiting friend wanted to take us out to dinner on a Tuesday night in mid-may... we suggested the 'Ho and she'd never been, so she agreed. There was a lively crowd, a few of whom smelled rather strongly of a certain smoked herb. We had a decent dinner... twin filets in a brown peppercorn sauce priced in the low $20s, and fried scallops and clam strips for my visiting friend, which were fine. A couple of drinks... and lo and behold the bill somehow crept up to $130 for 3 people before tip... I was actually kind of shocked, and I saw my friend staring at it for a long time, but it was her treat, so i didn't ask to review the slip for errors. I hope it was accurate. I offered to pay the tip but she insisted it was her treat, and then just kept staring at the bill like she wasn't quite sure she was reading it right. So I bought the last round of drinks... stingers (brandy and creme de menthe, quite delicious actually). The waitress was OK during the early part of the meal but basically abandoned us towards the end... she definitely could have sold us more drinks and earned more tips if she'd come around more, and displayed any type of upbeat fun personality. The highlight of the evening was the Tuesday night trivia contest. I don't even know what the prize was. We ended up with a mid-pack score by sharing answers with the Canadian couple at the adjoining table, despite receiving lots of disapproving stares from an elderly threesome against the wall. The winning team of about 8 guys at a round table actually had their own baseball caps embroidered with their team name, so if you want to win, you'd better bring a lot of friends for your team and realize that apparently this is serious stuff in Orleans in the winter. Came here for lunch from a recommendation in Orleans. We biked here from Brewster and found this place on Main street. The place was packed and had an interesting décor comprised of business signs, license plates and advertising signs. The place specializes in fried foods, because you could smell the odor of frying oil when you walk into the door. Our party had the clam chowder and the mushroom bisque to start that was actually very good. We then had a lobster roll, fried cod Rueben, broiled flounder sandwich, and fried clams. The dishes were fine and filled our stomachs but did not amaze me with flavor. We were also seated right next to the open kitchen, which probably made the experience less positive. read more

The reigning champion of casual cuisine in 'downtown' Orleans. When you think 'family restaurant,' you're essentially imagining the Land Ho. Big baskets of chicken and fries, crazy decor hanging all over the ceiling and walls, and tables packed to the gills with hungry families looking to refuel their shopping energy. The menu is the usual array of sandwiches and finger foods, plus a large seafood section as required on the Cape. They don't have a huge selection of alcohol, but the major beers are on tap or in the bottle. It's the quality that keeps the Land Ho from receding into the family restaurant landscape. The chowder and crab cakes are good enough to win over even the fussy locals. I'm a big fan personally of their sandwiches, which have yet to miss. I'm not normally a Reuben girl, but theirs came highly recommended and I was quite pleased. My usual is the grilled chicken club - nothing fancy, but darn tasty. Their fries are some of my favorite on the Cape. And be sure to get their nachos as an appetizer - they go over very well. The only problem might be finding a table. The place is a madhouse during tourist season, and every seat will be occupied ten minutes after the place opens. (Savvy eaters can enjoy a bit of lunch-time theater as they watch people casually stroll in at 11:50 and fuss and moan in the entryway because the Land Ho has the gall to be full when they're in the mood to eat. An absurdly popular eatery in tourist season is full? Who would have guessed?) There's plenty of parking in the area, but I mean 'the area,' which is 'sort of near the restaurant.' Expect a potential stroll from CVS or the like if you're dining in. Tables are also rather close together to squeeze in every possible diner, so you might have to do a little chair-dodging. You can also expect to pay a few bucks more than similar places, due to location. Hard to think of a better spot if you're in the area and want some quality casual eats, or you want a nice family meal in a fun spot. Service is always pleasant, albeit a bit rushed given the hectic crowds. Be sure to come at off-peak hours if you hate waiting, though. read more
