One of the worst dining experiences I have had in awhile. To start I asked for a water no ice and the waitress was distracted. Okay that's fine- not a big deal. Then before our salad bar we were never given bread plates and were forced to put our appetizer on the table. Our mozzarella moons were from the freezer and disgusting. Our waitress never checked on how our entrees tasted, and there was a hair in my "Parmesan roasted potatoes" which looked burnt and gross. I asked for a plain shrimp scampi on the side of my mignon steak and it came poured all over my steak and with tomatoes which I never asked for. It was insanely buttery and overall not tasty. I would have told my server if she actually paid attention to my boyfriend and I. You would think that with an $80 bill, our waitress would at least visit the table more than once. The service sucked and I will never go back. read more

They don't take call ahead seating or reservations for parties under 8. So we took our chance that there wouldn't be a long wait. We only had to wait 10-15 minutes. I hate waiting. This is the go to place for Prime Rib ! I'd give the meal 5 stars ! We have dined here several times, I'm sure we'll be back. read more

I have been to Lanie's now a total of 6 times. Not sure why since everytime I leave dissapointed. At first glance, the menu is impressive. Lots to choose from, and some of the items I would expect from a high end restaurant. But the setting is nothing like high end. The decor is nothing short of garish. And the atmosphere is leaves a lot to be desired. The dining room is one large space, absolutely no privacy at all, and because the tables are back to back to back, it becomes very noisy. Hard to have any kind of conversation with your table-mates. As far as the food, it is huge portions, but mediocre taste. I end up taking home more than half of my plate. The salad bar is the nicest part of the meal, and the bread and garlic butter served with the salad bar is very tasty. The last time I went, I had a party of 6, but made reservations for 8. At the last minute, 2 from my party had to drop out. Lanie's requires a minimum of 8 to make a reservation. Thankfully they still honored my reservation. I was taking a various group of people out to celebrate a milestone in my daughter's college career. The hostess led us to the bar, and tucked behind the bar are a few tables. Unfortunately is was loud and obnoxious there, and I could not hear the person speaking to me at my own table. We were looking to have a good time, not yell and scream over the bar patrons and the multiple televisions blaring throughout. I asked our server if we could be moved back to the main dining room, and he said that he could not accomodate that request. So the meal was spent with 4 senior citizens trying desperately to make conversation and 4 of us trying to get through the meal so we could get out the door. The server offered my daughter a cocktail. I looked at him like he was insane, she is underage, and certainly looked it. I asked him if he was going to proof her, and he said he assumed she was of legal drinking age. Good looking out for the youth of the capital district! Anyway, the restaurant does have a wide varity of food, able to please different tastes in your party, but don't expect to be blown away. read more

I have heard a lot of people give Lanie's high praises for their food but I just don't agree. I met some friends there for dinner a couple weeks ago and my whole experience was subpar. My chicken parmigiana was literally burned and they chose to cover it up with cheese and sauce and serve it anyway. My house Cabernet Sauvignon was served chilled and was very poor quality. Aside from meeting friends there I definitely would not choose to go there. I didn't complain to the staff because I don't like to have my friends feel uncomfortable. been going there for years, the food quantity is enormous the quality is beyond excellent, but this time the service was exceptionally poor. we were a party of five, myself,my wife,and granddaughter were paying cash,two of my friends were paying with a credit card. We asked for separate checks waitress say:s the restaurant does not do that, three of us had,shell fish dinners,the serving was enormous, gave us one plate for the shells which quickly piled up spilling over to the table couldn't find the waitress,the best part when the bill game she said for us to figure it out, when asked tax amount she said she didn't know. after 30 min, of trying to figure the bill, she finally separated the checks with an attitude .If this was our first time there,we will never come back. First of all the place is ok at best ... its food portions are big but taste is just not up to par. Actually it depends on what day it is and whos working ... Like a scatch-off you might hit one day and get a tastey meal and miss the next with a god awful meal. Very Inconsistent.. The place seems to want you to feel like ur in an authentic Italian restaurant .. but in all honestly it feels like ur in a cheap version of a restaurant on jersey shore.. people actually fist pumping at the cougar den(the bar/lounge area). The service is good and the waitresses arent to bad to look at either. The patio is the best part of the whole place by far. Oh and another thing whats the deal wit the owner always getting trashed at the bar ??? Thats pretty professional if you ask me. At least there always giving out free drinks haha read more

I really enjoy Lanie's and hate to give it just three stars. Atmosphere is good, love the patio, great service, large menu (could definitely use a few gf options though). My only real complaint, which may sound strange, is the portion sizes. They are absolutely ridiculously enormous for some dishes. It's actually embarrassing to be served nachos that literally could serve 10 people ( or even more). You really can't eat that later, so it is wasteful. We took it home anyway, and they actually had to give it to us in an aluminum roasting pan it was so much. We threw out about 5 times more than we ate. I saw another weirdly large steak salad going to another table. That patron looked kind of embarrassed as well. No one needs enormous plates of food. It takes away from the presentation. Otherwise, we really like Lanie's, but will never order the nachos again and will absolutely stick to smaller dishes. read more

Came into lanies yesterday evening for an early dinner, always excited when coming here because I know the food is always great! But last night when sitting down at the table we were sat at our experience was very different compared to all the other ones I've had eating at lanies.. we sat down and a very kind man comes over greets us and grabs our drink order letting us know our server Tarah is busy and she'll be over right away which is fine the man told us the specials and got us our drinks and was very sweet! 10 mins goes by and we are ready for appetizers and tarah our server comes over and all she says is "ok you guys ready" extremely rude and seemed miserable, we ordered our appetizers and hoped that maybe things would just get better.. as we finish those appetizers she comes over again and all she says is "ok you guys ready" I don't understand what her problem was.. we ordered our dinners and we ate she barley even asked us how our food was she didn't come back until we told her we were ready for boxes.. we wanted to also get another drink but we felt so taken back by how rude and how we felt like she could care less about serving us we didn't..horrible service I wont ever let this girl serve me again when I do go back, if it wasn't for the amazing food we wouldn't ever come back! read more

Really nice place in our neighborhood to have good food and great conversation the café in the spring and summer are so much fun to sit and converse with friends the drinks are good the food is good and the atmosphere is so comfortable. We have dined at Lanies amny times but lately the quality of food went down , pur last visit when we dined there and we felt rushed out and the dinning room had many open tables at 630 on a weekend night. We were still easting our salads and our meals arrived , i was still eating my last mouthfull of chicken parm when our waitress asked if i wanted the rest of my meal to go i pushed my plate forward and said yes , from start to finish our whole time there was about 45 min that way too fast for dinner . We have also had better tasting dishes in the past hopefully things will go back the way they were. because right now i will go elsewhere read more

Excellent food! Huge portions! While prices may seem high at first glance, you will easily get a 2nd if not 3rd meal out of your entree. All salad bar items were extremely fresh and well-stocked. Marinara and alfredo sauces were both very tasty! Chicken in chicken parmesan was plentiful and tender, and came with gobs of melted mozzarella on it. Bruchetta appetizer must have had a full pint of firm, flavorful grape tomatoes on it along with, again, tons af stringy, melted mozzarella. Rueben had great amount of meat and was well-balanced in flavor (not too sour.) We will definitely be back to try more of their numerous offerings! read more

Salad bar wasn't that good. You could tell the ranch wasn't homemade, just the one you buy at a store. No cheese at the salad bar for the salad, which was disappointing, but the croutons were very good. I got the eggplant parm, which was outstanding. We're were sat at a table by the bar, and the live music was too loud that sent us packing due to a headache. In addition to the music, a man broke a light which sent glass to our table and into our drinks, and no apology was given. Our server was okay, she only checked back once. read more

Fantastic! My husband and I wanted to do something casual for our anniversary, so we headed over to Lanie's. We had the Eggplant Rollatini and the Prime Rib and we were very pleased. The staff was awesome also. Our waitress, Ashley, was fun and attentive, but not overbearing. I tried reaching out to the owner of this restaraunt before posting this message on Yelp. I sent this message to their facebook account (because I could not find an e-mail on their website to contact them) last week but never heard anything back. I will say that their food is great but I must warn you that you can find better service almost anywhere else. This is what I sent them: Dear Lanies, I love your restaraunt and I love your food but I have to tell you about the service I received yesterday. I took my friend to your restaraunt for his birthday yesterday and we sat on the patio. We picked a table in the corner and the chairs were wet. We did not notice they were wet at first until our waitor came over and without introducing himself, simply said "your butt's are probably wet". We told him that we were fine (not thinking that the seats were as wet as they were). He then decided to turn around and we did not see him again until we reloacated to the seats in the sun ten minutes later. He proceeded to check on a table of four closest to the patio entrance to the restaraunt four times without coming over to our table. When he finally came over to our table, he dropped off the menus and took our drink orders. It did not take long for us to get our drinks but it did take us a while to order. After our waitor proceeded to check on the table of four a few more times, he came over and asked what we were having. I am not saying he needed to have a personality, I am just going to say that he came off as if we were barking orders at him and everything we said and did was annoying. Getting our food wrapped was another issue. It had started to sprinkle rain after we had finished our meal and we wanted to get our meals wrapped quickly and get going. After seeing our waitor go back to the table of four, FOUR more times, we had to ask the bus boy to wrap our food and give us our check. When the waitor finally came back to our table, he raised both of his arms in disbelief at us without saying a word. We did not know how to respond considering we couldn't believe he was just staring at us with his arms up so we said that we were all set. This was the WORST service I have ever had at your establishment and I must say that the food was great. If the food wasn't anything short of great, I would have asked to speak to his manager but I also just wanted to get out of there at that point. Your restaraunt provides great food every time I have every ordered from there but you need to something about your waitors. This is not the first time I have received this type of service at your establishment which has confirmed to me that I will be ordering my food to go from now on because that only takes 20 minutes similar to how long it took my friend and I to receive our menus. Back in Albany with Lanies a must stop. Cannot resist the veal parm, this time with tasty fra diavalo sauce. Ate at the bar with a couple of cold brews (great selection); bartender was friendly with service that made you think you were the only customer there. We've eaten at Lanie's many times, it's usually good for the $$$.. So we decided to bring two very good friends for dinner. It was a Sunday evening so there was plenty of open tables and not busy. As usual, the salad bar was full and items were fresh, that's pretty much where the good ended. We ordered Italian our friends wanted prime rib, their beef was uneatable, tuff as nails. Our friends were honest with the waitress when she asked how their dinner was. She offered to get the manager and they accepted. The manager offered a change in their entrées, they accepted a change to ribeye steaks which came fairly quick but unfortunately both steaks were not much better than the prime rib. The manager never returned to ask how the steaks were, she did offer a free desert to our friends, not the table as I thought she should have. I ordered my desert with coffee, no one else really wanted desert. I ordered cheese cake, which was awful, not fresh seemed still frozen, coffee came 15 minutes later, which I declined as we were ready to leave. Very disappointed. Gave this review 2 stars because the salad bar was good. read more

I brought a group of 11 people for dinner last week. We were seated immediately, the service was great and the food was awesome! The staff were extremely accommodating! The food was amazing from appetizers to the main course! Not only is this place overpriced, but DANGEROUS for anyone with food allergies. The entire staff need training in how to handle food allergies, from the waitstaff to the cooks. I came in last night and got a steak with 'roasted ' potatoes and the zucchini medley. I notified the waitress of my seafood and shellfish allergy. I got a steak that came piled with fried onion straws (which I didn't see listed as a topping on the menu). I asked the waitress if they were fried along with other seafood items like the calamari appetizer and she said yes. She was kind enough to take my steak and make a new one. However she told me I could keep my sides. When she returned I asked if the potatoes were indeed roasted or if they are deep fried too. She had to check but she was thinking they were baked and the manager would bring me my steak. The manager never brought me the steak. The hostess did without so much as an apology..Turns out they fry the potatoes as well. Good thing I asked. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because although ignorant, The waitress was polite and the steak was tender. I didn't choose this place since I was meeting friends, and I won't be coming back. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had. the food was ok, the service is what made it hell!! There was 4 adults 2 kids, it took us few times to tell our drink order, which is whatever. we order garlic bread to start he threw it on the table with no plates to share. When our food finally came out which was two pizza's he put the HOT pizza pan in front of the baby and threw the other one on the end of the table. Who puts hot plates in front of a one year old!! Then the rest of the food came out. he never came back we had to hunt him down for more napkins, the only thing that he did right was filling our drinks when empty. We boxed everything up, and waited about 10 minutes for him to come back, finally when he did he did come back he stood there and stared at us. Didn't ask a question didn't offer us dessert nothing. We had to ask for the check. He had no sense of urgency, acted like we where bothering him to do his job, he spoke three words to us the whole time. My girlfriend and I went here a month ago for lunch on the Saturday before the Superbowl. We walked in and were greeted very nicely as we have before, sat down and ordered some food. I ordered the broccoli soup and wings and so did my girlfriend. We ate the soup and in the meantime the bbq wings came out just in time. so we began to dig in! As i am eating, my girfriends eyes began to widen and she just froze. I asked her whats up? she told me to stop and look at my plate. A WORM was crawling from the wings/celery. I honestly couldn't believe what i was seeing. That's nasty! So i called the manager over which was standing at the front podium, and showed her the worm on the plate. She was disgusted as well and told me she was so sorry and all. She took the plate away and told me she apologizes. She was very sorry for the worm, but how do you get a worm in with cooked food lol? thats not cool. Not sure where it came from but, thats not acceptable. I asked her for the GM to call me, and she did 2 days later as she was in NYC from what the manager told me. She explained to me that the worm must have came from the ground in which the celery grows. she explained it to me as i did not know where veggies grow lol wtf? listen, it doesn't mean that you guys slip up in health code, that you dumb it down to the customer. It wasn't a pleasant experience, and neither did they make it to be something worth of sorrow. Also asked if the owner could call me back and she explained she was dealing with some personal issues, which i totally understand. that was a month ago, still nothing, even from the GM. pathetic.
