I wish I could rate it zero stars. We had about 15 people at dinner time to celebrate my sister in law. I wish I could review the food but there was none. The cook just "wasn't there". The bartender did offer free soft drinks if we brought our own food in. Ended up ordering pizza and burgers from nearby restaurants. If your vibe is broken chairs, posters covering the larger holes in the drywall along with small holes visible and total don't give a @$!& decor then this is the perfect place for you. She was a lone soul...which means the appetizer took forever to come out and getting a cocktail/refill was next to impossible. They say they do Karaoke guy was 30 minutes late. Unfortunately most people want to have a night out during the week before 10:30 pm. 7 would be better, but it is even worse when the music man comes at almost 11. The KJ for karaoke (Belch) is a good guy. However, the bartender Jason needs anger management courses. He wears a large knife on his belt on Friday and Saturday nights and is overly aggressive towards patrons for no reason. Take Jason out of the mix and this could be a great bar to hang out at. Like some people say "third time's a charm" Lantern have revamped themselves to be one of nicest, friendliest, and chill place to grab a cold one again. The vibe has came back to lighter and relaxed mood. The new owner is friendly and very welcoming to everybody, bartender is smiling and and even tried to help one patron to get a cab home (she stopped serving him drinks) It was actually nice to see the owner swooped in when he heard his bartender talking to the man about a cab so she could get back to serving people drinks. I browsed on their menu and wouldn't mind trying their food again. It's more simplified compared to before. Apps, burgers, sandwiches and non of those over the top trying to impress everybody menu, this is a bar for Pete's sake! Lol. Their bar tender highly recommended mostly everything, just too bad I came in late and the kitchen has already closed. Will definitely come back for the food and I've seen online that they have paint nights here eve once in a while, will definitely check that out too. P.s. Well. Not sure how to write this review - it's a bar. But it's more like a "bring your whole self without any shame" type of bar. Want to be tipsy and sing loudly off-key at 6:30 pm? Sure. Want to rely on Coors and Bud for your beer selection because there's no Shiner (NO SHINER?) and no drafts (to be fair they had broken but no one told us until failed order attempt #3)? Want to have tap water as a teetotaler because there's no Topo Chico ("we hear that's a thing in Texas now")? If the answer to the above is yes, then Lantern Street is your place. Seriously it's not a bad bar and the service is great. It's just not really my type of bar - maybe I'm just too bougie. read more

Came in with my girlfriends to drink, Calvin (owner?) was at the bar (as usual) and kept giving me and my girls looks like he wanted to take us to the back, if you know what I mean. When we declined his advances he said f you, you'll never get your W2! And I don't even work there so mans must've been inebriated beyond belief and have some serious personal issues. Its hard to be non-biased with this place since I spend a lot of time here. I can understand since time of the 'Rhona its hard to keep a business running. Food: Not super great, used to be very good but has lost a step or two. Drinks: Lots of selections however there is not a lot of supplies for restock. So once they are out, its out till someone makes a supply run. Venue: Ok so the bathrooms are an issue since they share a main drain with the whole complex. Yes the smell is not great, but until the building owner has a plumber do a full revamp it is what it is. They could be a bit cleaner to. Pool tables are well maintained and functional, dart boards are good to. The bar itself does need a good old fashioned spring cleaning. Staff: There seems to be a lot of rotation lately. I think the only one I have seen regularly is Cole and he is the man. Calvin is always super polite and attentive. In the end I will probably have to re-write this once the pandemic is over and the business get back to smooth running. read more

Came in on a Monday late afternoon for a burger. I asked the lady at the bar if they were fresh or frozen. She said she didn't know and only works on Mondays. Not a big deal, I'll take my chances. Burger was pretty decent, didn't blow me away but good for a bar/grille type place. I don't know why they had game shows on the TVs but they put the ballgame on for me. Not impressive. Wife ordered a martini, and they ran out of olive juice and olives but decided to serve it any way. When she complained it was too watered down, the server refused to take it off the bill. Secondary, food came out burnt and not very good. Seasoning before cooking, or including basic condiments would go a long way. Finally, could not tell who the bartenders / waitstaff was. Sat for an extended period of time before our drink order(s) were taken. The owner, I assume it was him, seemed to only greet tables that had attractive women, and never once made his way to us. As a business owner myself, I prefer to frequent other small businesses but this will not be one I return to, nor will I recommend to friends or family. read more

We ventured this way when The Franchise in Plano made the dumbest decision ever...to ditch karaoke (their biggest draw) for most of the week. That was my only reason to go...but Belch was working here doing karaoke and we followed suit. The food is just ok.. typical barfood, the karaoke sound is actually GREAT, the drinks are very well priced...but it's just not really comfortable. It's a hole in the wall though..it's not supposed to be. I can definitely be ok with that; it's not trying to be something it's not. The crowd is mostly people who followed Belch..and it's a good crowd, so obviously we will continue to make the drive for the karaoke!! read more

Now this is more like it: if we rewind nearly two months ago, I guessed this place was ironing out some of its opening week jitters. And it turns out that was the case because the differences between my first time here and my dining experience yesterday are subtle but substantial when added up. It's not often I update a review (shamefully due to laziness, if I'm being honest), and it's even less likely for me to bump the review up to the coveted five-star ranking. But here we are and for one very good reason: Lantern St. deserves to succeed. Full disclaimer before we get too carried away: shortly after my initial review, which I believe Yelp will preserve for the eons to come if you want to scroll down and read it, I was contacted by the owner of Lantern St. Right away there are probably some skeptics in the audience thinking this updated score is the result of owner manipulation or something equally ridiculous. The simple fact of the matter is that the owner, a man named Aaron who firmly believes in his product, genuinely values customer feedback and the possibility of advancing that product to meet the needs of as varied a clientele as possible. He encouraged me to return and see the difference(s) more than a month can make. And, like a moth to the (flame in the) lantern, I did return with a friend of mine. And every prior complaint I had was addressed, and then some. Immediately upon entering, the place is much more alive, vibrant with patrons from coworkers enjoying a happy hour gathering, families eating dinner and other folks walking about and smoking on the patio. The lighting is dim enough without being oppressive and there are now decorations! Yeah, they're neon beer signs you can see in thousands of other bars but they add a touch of character to the place. We sat at the same high top I was at last time and our server was quick to run us out a couple of Maredsous 8s after a brief chat. This was a source of much frustration on the first visit here as their Web site advertised this beer and, upon arriving, there was no Maredsous 8 to be found! There was also no beer list to be found, but this, too, has been amended. And while it (accurately) makes me sound like a beer snob to devote multiple paragraphs to this brew, trust me when I say it's worth every dollar and every word said about it. With beers in hand, we browsed the rest of the menu. A legend now sits at the bottom of the menu to tell you which dishes are the fan favorites here. Our server recommended a few dishes and we ultimately went with the Top 'o the Mornin' Burger (egg, hash browns, bacon, heart attack, etc.) and the Shrimp Mac n Cheese (with sautéed onions and bacon... and probably a heart attack). The food was delicious, and a considerable step above "bar food" quality. I mean, let's face it: no one goes to a bar expecting foie gras or rack of lamb. But don't sell the menu short: some revisions have taken place since the early weeks of their opening and I'm confident there are some hidden gems resting on these pages if you look long enough. Before the food arrived, Aaron came by and introduced himself formally and I noticed something: he and the bartender on duty were both adept at keeping customer relations bustling and engaged. I've said for years I do not trust a place where the management or staff will not at least greet the customers because it just reeks of indifference to the people who keep the barstools and booths full night after night. The team here cares about their image and goods provided, but more importantly, they care about their guests. You could be a regular or you could be a first-timer: no matter your background, chances are high you're going to feel welcome. Look, anyone who has read my first review and now this second one has already poured over hundreds of words discussing the same place. At the least, that should be enough to convince you to give Lantern St. a chance. For the rest of you on the fence, what have you got to lose? You may find a new local haunt to meet your beer and grub needs. And, most importantly, you may (rightfully) like it. read more

My husband and I wanted to try a new place. The ratings for this place sold us. The food was good and the beer was really cold. The staff was very friendly. The reviews proved to be true. However, there were several patrons already drunk when we arrived around 6pm. It seemed that they were friends with the server and bartender. This made our visit very uncomfortable. They were loud and obnoxious. This is not something a good bar should have going on. I hope that if we visit again that this bar has cleaned up some of the patrons and paid better attention to people's levels before continuing to serve them. read more

So finally got to stop by and try the food. Let's go through the good, the bad, and the ugly. First the good. Mushrooms. These were good. Nicely breaded and fried, and lots of them, not 5-6 like you see at most places but a big plate full. In fact, we didn't manage to eat them all be the entrees came out. The bad...the menu didn't have many entrees, maybe about half a dozen. There was a number of appetizers, burgers and sandwiches and some salads, but only 1-2 of the limited entrees appealed to me which was the fish and chips. When it came out, I didn't get chips, I got slices and fried potato, and so few I could count them, 12. This is not what I expect from fish & chips. The ugly...the fish. Usually you'll see a fish like cod or haddock. I have no idea what I was served. The batter wasn't very crispy apart from the odd bit on the end, and the fish...I have no idea what it was, it almost seemed like catfish but didn't taste like it. Didn't care for it at all. Certainly not what was expected. My wife did have the mac & cheese and said she enjoyed it, but over all, the food was disappointing to me. Given my first impressions and really wanting to like this place, it just doesn't work for me. I think it's trying to be a gastro-pub without a really nice selection of beers or the great food to back it up. Lantern St. is certainly unique and I'm sure if will be a good place for some, but I can get better fish & chips and a winder beer selection at dozens of other places. read more

This place is my new favorite bar since I moved to Plano and I have tried out quite a few. Everyone is so nice, the staff AND customers! 19 flat screens for sports and Chive TV, and they'll put on whichever game you want. Touchtunes jukebox that you can play from an app on your phone. Such a shame. I don't know what happened to this place, but the last couple of times I have been here, the food has got worse and I don't think I will be back. Ordered the fish and chips and got a meal I could have found in the frozen section of the grocery store. They used to make great fries here, but now serve frozen ones. The fish was the same. The "smoked" coleslaw is watery and tasteless. I give a star to the waiter who was good. He even told us not to get the ribs because "everyone sends them back and we have to comp them the meal." I guess it is a vicious cycle - business is slow, so they cut their food costs, put out crappy food and then even fewer people go there. Half the food tables have been removed and replaced with pool tables. Such a shame! read more

We've been to Lantern St. twice now. It's a welcome addition to lame scene in Plano, but far from perfect. We went here on Saturday after our regular LPH was sooooo packed and loud that we couldn't get a seat at the bar. By contrast, Lantern St. was almost empty when we pulled up. Five people total at 8pm on a Saturday night. The bartendress was nice enough, but the bar top was sticky icky ickkkyy. The draft selection has slipped back to a very pedestrian Coors Lt, Bud light, Miller light horribleness, so the Harpoon UFO was our choice. In fact, the customers were all drinking those Big 3 swills. Sad state of affairs compared to fantastic craft selection on our last visit. We ordered food because I was starving. I started with the loaded cheese fries....and ended there. The Ore Ida crinkle fries were still frozen in the middle. I was sad. I couldn't go forward after that. Last time was better at 'meh'. If you want to be alone, this is a good dive. If you care to do shots with the bartender, this is a good spot. If you like 20 TVs above the bar so you don't have to converse or interact with humans, this is good for you. If you feel like crying, no one will notice. The music was way too.....errr uhhhh....'ethnic' for my tastes, and I'm a progressive fella. It was fine though, but we noticed three groups come in....have one drink....then leave. I understood. **EDIT** One of the things I forgot about was COASTERS. How can a bar be considered a bar without coasters??????? NO JOKE. A cocktail napkin is not suitable for a beer-under ANY circumstance. A martini, sure. They are free....distributors will GIVE them to you. Suppliers too. When I asked the bartender she said "NO".
