Laotian food is very underrated! This restaurant was very clean and the service was great. Went here 3 times in 2 weeks! The Laotian pho noodle soup was great - slightly different from the Vietnamese pho due to broth. The noodles are always perfectly cooked. The Laos beef jerky is a MUST! The pad Thai is to die for also. The papaya salad is VERY authentic and you can choose the level of spiciness from (1-5; 5 being hottest). I recommend a 2... This place seemed like a slam dunk based on the reviews, but unfortunately was a flop. The appetizers were very good: we ordered the satay and crab rangoon. The chicken had a great sauce and the rangoon was light and crispy with the right amount of cheese. For dinner I ordered the drunken noodles with duck. The duck was extremely fatty and borderline inedible, and the noodles were huge and soggy. Someone else at the table ordered pad thai and they mentioned it tasted strange - this was surprising given how basic of a dish this should be at a Thai restaurant. I ate about 2-3 bites before giving up; unfortunately because I didn't really get a chance to try it before the "check in" (came too soon), I didn't get to speak up about it since the server disappeared until the end of the meal - so I wound up having to pay for that slop. My only complaint is the chicken quality. I ordered some apps, curry rice and then the general Thai chicken. The generals chicken was the EXACT quality of chicken the Chinese food places at the mall give you .. it was gross. For the price, I'm expecting chicken quality better than McDonalds. This is clearly frozen chicken chunks just thrown into whatever sauce.Never have this problem with Thai restaurants, I'm normally impressed by the quality of food used vs other place. We went on a Saturday night and the place was busy. Pretty much every table was occupied and since I was new to the area it gave me the confidence that the food will be good. I ordered pad thai and other friends ordered mango chicken curry and some fried rice. All turned out to be good with generous portions. I ordered takeout here for myself and my family. We got chicken pad thai, duck pad thai, the beef jerky appetizer, tapioca ball appetizer and sticky ricy. The pad thai was 8.95 but 5 dollars extra if you wanted duck. For the amount of duck given, I dont think it was worth 5 dollars extra. There were NO pranuts on my pad thai. Is this normal? I have never ordered a pad thai that came without peanuts, my favorite part. There was another option on the menu for a more expensive pad thai, maybe 4 or 5 dollars more but i think it included seafood. Maybe they only give peanuts with that one? Not cool. I ordered medium spice, actually hoping for medium spice but there was very little to no spice. The pad thai was more sweet than spicy. The beef jerky was okay. Tasted like any homemade beef jerky you would get at an asian store, nothing to ride home about. The meat filled tapioca balls however were fantastic and the sauce complimented them very well. The sticky rice was perfect dipped in some hoison sauce, but it is pretty hard to mess up sticky rice. Overall I think the pad thai was lacking in flavor. It was overpriced compared to Rosetips restaurant, also in dracut and it is also about the same price as rosetips where 1 order there can feed a family of 4, compared to here, one order could feed 2 people or 1 REALLY hungry person. I would come back here to try the other food or if rosetips wasn't open and I needed a pad thai fix this would be my 2nd choice in the lowell dracut area. However I would def ask about those peanuts and if you like spice, go above medium. Maybe my spice level interpretation is off??? Who knows. Wasn't terrible, wasn't great. 3 stars is more than fair for the items I chose, price I paid and delivery. Keep in mind delivery is an extra 3 dollars BUT they did deliver to lowell.. so kudos to that. read more

YUMMM! This place has such good service and food. If my family had not moved we would still be going there. The Pad See Ew is amazing, and they have an amazing selection of dishes. The Pho is also really good if you are going in the winter. They never let you water glass hit the bottom, and ask how the food is. The wait time between ordering and getting food is fairly short depending on how many people there are. They also add a good amount of spice to their curies, and the drunken noodles are amazing. Mid week since I arrived in Lowell. My family decided we want to have Laotian food. We googled and found this place! When we walked in the place looks crowded because it was so small. We sat down after 10 minutes wait. We were sat in the corner to the right of the door for a party of 4. We ordered kow piek sen and papaya salad (thum everything) to start! Papaya was very sweet and not enough spice and the kow piek sen noodles were very weird. The broth did not have enough chicken taste to it. The server gave us a tray of condiments to add on but why? Shouldn't the soup taste good the minute it came out of the kitchen without adding a pile of stuff to it? We all shared that and didn't even finish it. For entrees, we had larb seen and the rice dish with the pork mixed into it. That was delicious! I guess it made up for the appetizers. The sticky rice was warm and not too sticky like some of the restaruant we have in California. Overall, the service was good and the main dishes was delicious! I love family owned restaurants! The food is amazing! The only thing that is disappointing is the fact that I don't live closer. This place is known for their Lao food. I willing to drive from braintree all the way up just to get my southeast asian food fix. I would highly recommend that the owner consider opening up another location closer to Boston, but preferably in the south shore since that's where I'm from. Lol I had a conversation with the waiter about it and he thought there would be to much competition from other Asian restaurants, but really there isn't any competition with the fact that there are no laotian or Cambodian restaurants in the south shore. There's plenty of Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant, and it gets boring after awhile. Please consider opening another location. My favorites: rice balls with ground pork, nam khao (lao version of fried rice), beef larb salad spicy, sticky rice, and spicy papaya salad. read more

The best Thai/Laotian food I've had, in the middle of nowhere (sorry Dracut). Total hole in the wall with fresh, amazing food at reasonable prices. If only this were closer to Boston, but it's worth a 30 min road trip to try. Standouts were the tapioca balls (mochi like rice balls filled with ground pork), nam kao lao (crispy bits of sausage and rice that you wrap in lettuce), and tom yum koong (sour seafood soup, with a punch you in the face flavor). read more

It does get a little busy fast so I recommend dining out its a small place so it can feel crowded. First off, the three star rating is not reflective of the food quality seen typically at Laxang Star in my experience. My girlfriend and I have been to this restaurant easily 25-30 times since they opened for both dine in and take out. The food almost without fail is great each time. Fresh and flavorful. Never had a bad meal here, we have both enjoyed everything we have tried. The reason I gave this place three stars is the service. Just about every time I've been there the service is just not up to the task. The service is friendly and relatively attentive, but outside of that the service has issues. After having several slow service experiences while dining in, we switched to take out. With take out, we have routinely been told 25 minutes for the order to be ready and it ends up being 45 minutes. My last time getting take out I was told 25 minutes but still waited about 40 minutes before showing up and I still ended up waiting 15 minutes after I got there. That is close to an hour for fried rice and rad na. Oh, and the place was empty that night. I really don't understand it, we've tried ordering off peak times, tried just take out, tried waiting longer than they estimate for take out etc. They just can't seem to get the timing down on their food orders. We find ourselves less willing to deal with it now, in spite of the quality of the food. In the Lowell area there is a plethora of Southeast Asian and Vietnamese food so there are a lot of options including places that can serve you in a more timely manner. I really hope this place can get their operation straightened out, but for the time being I think we'll go elsewhere. read more

I heard a lot of good things about this restaurant, so I decided to give it a try. Went on a Friday with a friend of mine. Was on a time crunch, did not get to finish my meal. Although this place got numerous good reviews on Yelp and I've seen people post pictures of the food which looked really good, I've actually heard, and have, mixed reviews about this place. I've had their nam kao and egg rolls at a birthday party (they do catering) and was not too pleased. Personally, I like my nam kao crispy and with a little more flavor. The nam kao was NOT at all crispy; it had the texture of fried rice. The egg rolls were okay but nothing out of this world. Yesterday my friends and I decided to go dine in to show our support. The service was excellent. Our waitress was super friendly and nice. The place was also clean. We all had kao piak soup which I have to say was really good! The noodle itself was soft and sticky which I loved and the broth had good chicken flavor to it. We also had what they call "thum lao," which basically is papaya salad with noodles, seafood, and vegetables mixed in. I have to say I was pretty disappointed. It wasn't horrible but I expected it to stand up to its name especially when we asked for it to be spicy. We're Lao ourselves and we know how it should taste like and that was not all at something that our family would have made. When we left, I bought the tamarind hot sauce/paste. Tried it today with sticky rice and it was pretty good. After all that's said, now you can see why I have mixed reviews about this place. I would go back but would definitely not order the stuff I did not like again. My opinions definitely have to do with me being Lao myself. Because I know how the food should taste, of course I'm definitely comparing them to my family's or other times I've had them anywhere else.
