The interior of the restaurant is very nice and ambient. Clean and large space. The food was alright! My friends and I shared 4 dishes amongst the 5 of us and it was just enough food. I don't think I'd return as nothing really stood from the dishes we ordered. It's decent sichuan food but nothing amazing, plus it's kind of pricey especially given the portion size. A good number of the dishes ranged from $25-30 which I think is steep compared to some other local restaurants. Here's what we ordered: 1) Beef in Golden Soup 5/5 - perfectly spicy and beef belly was good 2) Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp 4/5 - plump shrimp cooked well but slightly too greasy 3) Cumin lamb 3/5 - meat cooked to a char so you lose the lamb flavor. 4) Eggplant & green beans 3/5 - too salty 5) Pork and crab xiao long bao 1/5 - skip this dish! $16 for 6 baos; not worth it. My fiancée found Lao Szechuan on Groupon, and the deal was too good to pass up -- $60 worth of food for $15. Just a heads-up: there's an automatic 18% gratuity, and if you're not paying close attention to the payment screen, you might accidentally tip on top of the gratuity. So double-check. Walking in, the layout is a little confusing -- open space and no clear signage on where to go. The hostess, who didn't speak much English, quickly asked if we wanted hot pot, Korean BBQ, or Chinese. We chose Chinese, but the interaction felt slightly awkward like she had to process what she just asked us. Pro tip: If you're here for Chinese, head to the right when you walk in. We weren't there during a busy time and ended up in a "VIP" booth, though I'm not sure what made it VIP... but I digress. Ordering was easy thanks to our server, but you'd think with robots delivering the food, the ordering system would be more seamless. Still, the food came out quickly. Here's what we tried: Scallion pancakes ($7.95): Good flavor, could've been cooked a little longer. Still enjoyed them. Braised combo ($15.95): Not for the faint of heart. Surprise ingredients included pig's ear, tripe, and (I think) intestines. Would've appreciated a menu description. Needed extra sauce to make it work, and most of it came home with me. Chef's special duck soup ($4.95): Just broth with a couple raisins. No meat. Kinda disappointed. Should've gone with the wonton soup ($2.95) like my fiancée -- easily the best I've ever had. Singapore chow mei fun ($15.95): Loaded with noodles and chicken (we compromised on chicken). Massive portion, really flavorful. White rice ($2): Standard. Xiao long bao: No photo because I dropped the first round -- soup dumpling explosion. They kindly remade it, but the second batch seemed rushed. Still good to me, but my fiancée wasn't impressed. The atmosphere was nice, the food overall was solid, and despite some bumps, I left full and happy. I came here to eat with 6 of my friends for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant is in the same plaza as many other popular businesses like Quoc Huong, Kamayan, Mamak, and Sweet Hut, but it isn't too hard to find a parking spot. The inside of the building is absolutely gorgeous and very modern and beautiful. There is Lao Szechuan but also a boba and shabu shabu restaurant. This place is best experienced if you eat family style in my opinion because you are able to get a little bit of everything. We ordered about seven dishes, and unfortunately, I was so hungry I didn't remember to take a picture until after we started eating. I am not really big on Szechuan food, but all of my friends were and they loved it. Some of their favorites were the chef's special dry chili chicken (center right in the photo), the house special sliced beef tenderloin in golden soup, and the mapo tofu. To be honest, we ordered 8 dishes and were slightly worried we would have too much left over, but we only had a small amount of soup left and some of the stir fried black fungus and yams (bottom center) left. I also really enjoyed the eggplant in garlic sauce (top right), and like my friends, I thought the golden soup was so good. It had a light tang to it that was super refreshing. The service for the place was amazing. They were always quick to stop by to refill our waters and replenish our rice. The food also came out quick and piping hot. I do wish the soup came out with small bowls as well because all of us wanted to have just a bowl of that delicious soup. In terms of the very little we didn't like , my table didn't really enjoy the xiao long baos too much, though they were beautiful. Honestly, it just paled to everything else we ordered. The scallion pancake (not pictured) was also tiny and unmemorable, so we personally wouldn't get that next time we go. This is probably some of the best Szechuan food I've had, and I say this as someone who really doesn't enjoy Szechuan food. Really enjoyed the modern, nice interior of this place! I walked in with a party of 12 and they were able to seat us right away in one of the private rooms which was nice! They came out with the food in a steady manner - I thought everything was decent, though I'm not big on szechuan food. I felt that the portions were a little small when compared to other family-style chinese restaurants in the area. I was sad/surprised that they were out of the xiao long bao when we came - it was on a saturday around noon, so I wasn't expecting them to be out of food. My one constructive criticism is to maybe serve the green bean jelly dish with either 2 spoons or preferably tongs. It was near impossible to serve it with the one spoon provided. For me, I'm not a big fan, but of course I'm willing to try it out. The food here came out pretty quickly, but it did seem like a slow day that day. Portions are pretty decent. I ordered the regular soup dumplings, but I think the server got us the crab soup dumplings. Either way, still good. Lao Szechuan is in a new dining complex that also houses a KBBQ/hot pot restaurant (Kanpai) and a boba/mochi donut spot (Teamo). The interior is super spacious, with a ton of tables and seating and a large bar; the atmosphere is pretty upscale. I'd been to the Chicago locations of Lao Szechuan, so I was excited to hear that they opened another one in Atlanta. The service was prompt, and the menu is truly expansive. For the three of us, we ordered the half-set of Peking Duck, the Tony Chicken with Three Chilis, Sauteed Pigs Feet with Pepper, Stir-Fried Eggplant & Green Beans, and a platter of three Chinese cured meats. It was definitely too much food: We ended up taking a bunch of the Peking Duck and some of the Sauteed Pigs Feet home. All of the food was really good, with the exception of the Tony Chicken, which is marked as spicy but is in fact fried and drenched in a sticky, sweet sauce. (It wasn't bad - just wasn't my preferred flavor profile.) The standout dishes for me were the Sauteed Pigs Feet and the Stir-Fried Eggplant & Green Beans. The Pigs Feet were tender and skillfully de-boned (while leaving the cartilage intact), and the eggplant had a delicious char to it. The Peking duck was also very good. It comes with duck bone soup, which was so delicious we asked for a second helping, and they serve some of the crispy skin by itself, with some sugar that melts into the fat with every bite. Finally, they bring out an impressive platter with the wrap, sauces, cucumber slices & scallions, and succulent slices of duck. It's a genuinely elegant display. The menu is extensive with many authentic Szechuan dishes as well as some American-Chinese standards. All the dishes I tried were good. The Dan Dan noodles were well made, and well spiced. I would have left a higher rating if not for the inattentive service and the pacing of the meal. I had ordered soup as a starter, but it came last. I was there when the restaurant was not busy and I was left alone for the entire meal. My water glass was not refilled, even though it was empty, and there was no one around to ask for my check when I was done. Salt and pepper tofu: this was pretty disappointing and I've had better elsewhere. Tofu wasn't as crispy as I would've liked. Fuqi feipian: this was just in, I've definitely had better at other sichuan places. Crispy rice in stew: this was actually amazing. Walking in was a bit confusing because it's set up like 3 shops in one, but the hostess by the door was helpful in guiding us to the correct tables. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing with fancy tables set up and a large screen on the wall that illuminates the room. After looking over the menu, my boyfriend and I ordered the Xiao Long Boa (soup dumplings), the crab soup dumplings, and the braised beef noodle. The noodles came out first so we split that while we waited for the dumplings. It was a soupy noodle dish, which we weren't expecting, but it tasted great nevertheless. When both types of soup dumplings came out, we made sure to ask for extra chili oil and dug right in. The traditional pork soup dumplings were my favorites out of them both, but it was nice to try something different with the crab version. The fish maw soup was probably the worst I've ever tasted. There was no crabmeat inside either. There was no flavor at all! The kung chicken consisted of really soggy soft chicken and it wasn't salty or spicy. The cabbage dish was the only dish we enjoyed. We brought the poor tasting food to our waiters attention and she pretended like she did not know what we were trying to ask for. Also wasn't sure who our waiter was. We tried to flag someone down our bill and boxes and water refills but she kept going off to look for someone else to attend to our table. Came on a quiet Thursday evening for dinner with several friends. The front is shared with Tea'mo and Kanpai as is the host. There was no seating in the waiting area but we were seated in the restaurant as soon as I was ready. The server explained the specials at the top of ordering and it influenced our overall order. We split 5 entrees and two app/snacks. The Cumin beef was excellent as was the lobster with chili and garlic (although a little small). The surprise was the Dan Dan noodles which was excellent and good sized for being $10. I would skip the home style tofu and the dry spice pork with cauliflower. The Peking duck was decent but I wouldn't get it again given value (size, price, and taste). Overall it was a good meal. Really enjoyed the Peking Duck and eggplant with garlic sauce! Peking Duck comes with a nice soup broth and crispy skin served separately. It's a bit on the pricier side, but that's to be expected given the nicer ambiance and customer service. They also have private rooms for larger parties. The dishes were amazing; we ordered the stir fry shredded duck, soup dumplings, and fried garlic & chili style 3 treasure seafood (BTW, this is not on the menu but love the fact that they pivoted to accommodate me!). Brand new 3-in-one dining on Buford Hwy. Beautifully decorated interior. We primarily went for the Peking Duck are were disappointed to learn they did not have it that day. The pork liver was good quality but we expected it to be spicer. The crab xio long bao was good. We ordered two Szechuan dishes but we expected those to be spiced and more flavorful.
