After being disappointed to find Mother India closed on Mondays, we turned to Thai Kitchen (AKA Laos Thai Market)...to find it closed at 6 pm. However, we were in luck because the lovely women working there let us in, told us to walk down the street to the Wells Fargo to get cash, and come back and they would cook for us because they were still there, so why not. The food was great! My husband said the Pad Thai was the best he has ever had. I had the yellow curry which was also wonderful, though I'm not sure they believed me when I said I liked my food spicy as it could have had much more of a punch. I would go back in a heartbeat if for no other reason than the amazing service and kind hospitality, but luckily the food is great too, and the place is so quaint it makes you feel at home. read more

I was here on a business trip with two others at lunchtime. It was a very easy location to find and we were able to park right out front - those are pluses. The ambiance was really weird, like Thai crossed with an old school diner. Only Thai place I've ever been with pop-country music playing. I had cashew tofu, the others had meat dishes. The cashew tofu was in a chili sauce, which isn't how cashew dishes are usually served, but it was very good. The others were also very pleased with the food. The -1 star is because, given the ambiance and location, the food was actually a little overpriced. There was no lunch menu and the dish I ordered cost more than it would have at almost any Thai restaurant in Chicago, probably all of which would have had a less weird ambiance. read more

Oh, boy. While this wasn't the best Thai food I've had, it's certainly not the worst, either. I do give them an "A" for effort, that's for sure. The place is converted from what used to be apparently a half-market, half-kitchen, now into a little restaurant. Though it's not barebones, they definitely have little upkeep in the way of setting the tone with decor and furniture and table setting/dishware appointments. It's sort of dive-y that way, but not in a bad sense, if you get how I mean. We were there around 7 on a Friday, and the tables were about 2/3 filled. Tom ka and tom yum soups were okay - much better than my homemade version - but not better than what I've had elsewhere. Spring rolls didn't have shrimp, maybe a piece of tofu? in there, but they were fresh, and I liked the peanutty sauce that accompanied them. Entrees: beef drunken noodles were like no other I've had anywhere else, so either they gave us the wrong dish, or they have their own special recipe for it - almost tasted like pad thai with beef, minus the egg. Mind you, it still tasted good, just not what I was expecting for drunken noodles. Our other selection was green curry chicken - again, not bad, but lacked a certain something in comparison to other versions I've had, and the vegetables consisted only of bamboo shoots. I was really grossed out by the plate I received. I ordered a beef noodle dish which turned out to be a soup and the beef looked really bad. I was afraid to eat it. It's very flavorful, authentic food. I would recommend it for the variety and offerings. However, the portions are small for the price. $10 is the average per dish and it's about a lunch portion. That being said, I still recommend it! read more

Being Laos and away from my mom makes me miss her food even more. Found this gem from the referral of a friend. The S/O and I thought we would give it a shot. I ordered the Laos style papaya salad with only 2 pepper since he can't eat overly spicy ( there is also Thai style) chicken wings , and sticky rice. He ordered the pad thai. The nice auntie that took our order gave great recommendations and service. Our food was authentic like something I would expect when I go visit my parents. The ladies at the register are very sweet and nice. I ordered Thai style papaya salad, sticky rice ( 3 small bags) and an order of fresh spring rolls (chicken) for a total of $23. I have to say the papaya salad was good but a bit sweet so next time I will try the Lao version. I'm from California and have been looking for real authentic Lao and Thai food and was very happy coming across this place. Oh what I wouldn't do for a Thai Iced Tea, some fresh vegetarian spring rolls, and a green curry with tofu! Omaha is spoiled with the Thai food - remember that and eat it often! I highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent Thai food. We ordered the spring rolls which were good and enjoyed the accompanying sauces. The papaya salad was excellent with a nice slow burn from the spiciness and not too fishy. Very refreshing. The thom yum soup with shrimp was also amazing. Five large tasty shrimps in the bowl of soup with a nice sweet and sour and lemongrass flavor. The #34 noodle dish we ordered was also good. Moving here from MN which has a lot of Thai restaurants I was worried I wouldn't be able to find a good Thai restaurant in Omaha but after eating at Laos Thai market I have found my Omaha Thai food fix location. The first time my wife and I went in there they were frying up some garlic for their dishes and it smelled amazing. We left smelling like garlic, but we didn't care because it smelled so good. Haha. This is my home kitchen away from home. We come here so often they have gotten to know not only our dietary needs, but us in general. Last time I was there she noticed I had a lil sniffle and hooked me up with more spice than usual. Some of our favorites include the Pad Thai, yellow curry with tofu, curry fried rice, fresh spring rolls, and their soups are worth a trip in a blizzard. Prices are very reasonable and portions are big enough for leftovers. Bring cash, they don't accept any other form of payment. I've been to a few places with rave reviews to only find terrible food that made me yearn for Panda Express. So I was skeptical when I saw 4.5 stars for this place. Surprisingly, Laos Thai Market did not disappoint. I had the Pad Thai and an order of Thai Fried Rice and they were acceptable and pretty authentic renditions of the popular dishes. I don't like spicy food but find some places food tastes bland without the spiciness. That is not true at Laos. The veggies were extremely fresh and they make the food to order. I had the curry medium, and found it to be a typical medium spiciness, maybe on the spicier side if you're not used to Thai. Very nice selection of foods, albeit a little pricey for lunch-sized portions. The pineapple fried rice and sweet & sour chicken were both very good. Chicken satay was also good; the satay sauce was excellent. Sweet coconut rice w/ mango slices (dessert) was also very good. Grand total, with tax: $41 & change. Again, a little pricey for a lunch for two. It's interesting seeing this place in the middle of Omaha's little Mexico, but it was good. My only complaint: cash only. This is the best Thai food we have had in Nebraska. We had a Thai Iced Tea, the crispy spring rolls, and the green and red curries. The curries are ordered on a spiciness scale from 1 to 10 - we had the green at a 5 and the red at a 7. The curries were packed with veggies - largely bamboo shoots and carrots - with pieces of chicken as the protein. They came with rice and shredded carrots and cabbage as accents. They were creamy, spicy (especially the red!), and piping hot. We couldn't stop eating them, even with steam coming off, clearly just made. The spring rolls were phenomenal, being perfectly cooked, light in texture even though they were fried, and served with two sauces in ketchup and mustard bottles (spicy red chili sauce and a sweeter sauce). The Thai iced tea was a perfect accompaniment, taking the heat away. The only bad thing about this place is the parking, largely street, but we had no trouble finding a spot on a Thursday afternoon. For Lincolnites, the food at this place blows Blue Orchid out of the water. The atmosphere is not as nice as Blue Orchid, nor is there alcohol (to our memory), but it's well worth the drive to Omaha. read more

You know you have a wallet full of plastic, and you better do something about that or you're going to end up washing dishes. There's actually a Wells Fargo right next door, so you're gonna be ok. I've only tried the Pad Thai so far, but it was amazing. It's probably my favorite PT now. I look forward to getting an opportunity to try some other stuff, and I have a feeling it's going to work out just fine. It was fairly slow on a Friday night, and I guess that's probably mainly because of the location. You probably never really have to worry about getting a table. The food took a little while to come out, so you might want to bring someone that can put a conversation together. If you start to doubt your decision on the person or the food while you're waiting, just try to have a little faith and hang in there. The area appears to be a little sketchy. The next block over was taped off with crime scene ribbon when I left, and I'm seriously pretty sure someone got capped while I was enjoying my delicious Pad Thai. I'm just saying you might want to make sure you lock your car up and keep your girl/guy close. This would be a great place for a lunch or casual dinner. Not really a first date atmosphere where you want to dress and impress. Everyone has their favorite Thai restaurant and this is hands-down mine, as well as one of my favorite restaurants overall. I always order the Pad Thai and add generous amounts of the sweet Thai sauce (yellow bottle) and peanuts. There is also a hotter sauce in a red bottle. During lunch all entrees are served with a fried spring roll. The heat level is on a scale of 1-10 and their scale is pretty standard - I have a moderate heat tolerance and order a 4 or 5, which is perfect. The owners are the sweetest family and service is always very friendly and everything is made to order. If you want some out-of-this-world Thai food, this is the place to get it. At first glance, the restaurant is filled with Buddha and Thailand travel photos everywhere, which I thoroughly enjoyed. My favorite this about Asian restaurants is when the decor is a little whack, but shows pride in the different cultures. I was with my boyfriend and waiting for two more guests. Our waiter had gone up to us multiple times after telling them we were waiting for guests if we wanted to order our entrees. That was a little weird. When I was served my Thai iced tea I had ordered, I was delivered it with half the liquid running down the sides with no napkins to spare. Also, a little weird, but tastes very good! When my guests arrived and we ordered, my dad ranted about how good the pho was here so I definitely had to try it. Before the pho, we ordered the fried spring rolls and they were EXTREMELY greasy. The extra napkins I needed for my messy drink were needed to dab off the excess of oil. Also, I was a little disappointed that the fried spring rolls didn't have meat in them so they were a little flavorless to me. All four of us ordered the pho, and we all would say it was very good. I'm not sure how different Laos/Thai pho is from Vietnamese pho, but the broth was delicious! Very favorable and I loved the fact I didn't need to add any hoisin for flavor, just sriracha. The only downfall was for 11 dollars, I felt like I got stiffed for that amount. I've gone to other restaurants, gotten a 6 dollar bowl of pho and could never finish my bowl. Here, I ate every last bit and still wanted to eat something else. Overall, I would say that the bowl of pho I got was one of the better ones I've had in Omaha!
