The decor and atmosphere was very vibey. the waitress who served us was very friendly and kind and the bartender came out to ask about the mixed drink I ordered which was absolutely perfect! My wife and I went here for a combined birthday celebration. We called a week ahead of time to say we'd have 25 people coming. In the past, this place has been a nice hidden gem in Bloomington, with great drinks and food. Now, the menu has changed and it's just kinda mid. Much worse than that, the staff was just ridiculously overwhelmed. Because of our size, we had multiple tables. The biggest one got their food in a slow moving wave, with the last person getting served as the first people were paying the bill. At other tables, there was literally no service. I ended up toasting my wife's birthday with someone else's water glass. We eventually left for Full tilt, just to get something to eat. We were never even acknowledged by the staff, let alone did we receive an apology. It's a shame. This was a nice place but we'll never go back there again read more

The Old Minneapolis cocktail is a nice, sweet version of an old fashioned. Cheese curds are lightly battered and lightly fried. Perfectly melted cheese inside. Very nicely done. Walleye had good flavor with a nice butter sauce. Waitress Ashley took great care of me. read more

Was staying at the Renaissance hotel in Bloomington and when you don't have a car, eating in is the easiest option. We came early at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday and were the only patrons in the restaurant. Decor is clean and modern woodsy. The server was very nice and friendly. She suggested the cheese curds, which we ordered as our starter ($16). I found them slightly underwhelming for how much she hyped them up -- we didn't even finish them! Since I was in Minnesota, I ordered the Walleye, which was $28 with Lemon Butter, Wild Rice, and Orange Citrus Salad. I dropped the wild rice for extra salad. It was an excellent portion and I only finished about half. I did finish the rest back in my hotel room later that night. Good flavors and portions -- would definitely come back and try other things on the menu if I was stuck here! read more

Service was great- ambiance good. Some chairs are more comfortable than others. Wheelchair accessible- both high and low tables. I had a burger and fries- service was great- very attentive- my to go box included napkins and ketchup packets- nice touch as I was staying in the hotel. Great hotel restaurant serving local favorites. My family came on a Friday night and it wasn't busy at all which is expected for a hotel restaurant. However, don't let that fool you as the food was amazing! I had ordered the brick chicken which was a pressed half chicken served with wild rice, asparagus, caramelized onions and parsnip puree. The chicken was so tender and the crispy skin added a nice textural crunch. It was nicely balanced with all the other sides as well. Others at my table got the MN specials. The walleye, pork belly and steak dishes. Every dish was so flavorful and a very big portion. However, the walleye dish is what blew me away. It was walleye filets that they had lightly breaded and served with similar sides to my chicken. Such good flavor! A true MN classic. Even though this place is a little out of the way and in a more business-y area, I would definitely recommend going out of the way for it. read more

Service was non-existent. They wanted us to pay to eat at the hotel's continental breakfast.

Might be one of the best "in hotel" restaurants I have ever been to. I went on a Tuesday, no too busy and got sat immediately. I tried the Pepper Burger and it was delicious. I would order with extra aïoli next time, as the sauce was really good. I had tater tot's which were very fresh, seasoned perfectly, and yummy. For desert I tried the Cheese Cake. A little on the smaller size, but tasted awesome... could use more topping. Service was on point. The place had a nice mellow setting that was a nice ambiance and kind of calming, if that makes sense. read more

I started my first day in town with breakfast. There was a nice layout of scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes etc,. I ordered scrambled eggs with home fries & bacon. You could get a much as you wanted for a set and reasonable price. In the evening I had their chicken wings which were amazing!!! They were so good I had to get them again before I go left. Staff was attentive and very engaging. The only downside (and reason for four, not 5 stars) is their hours of operations. Breakfast is over at 10am, then the kitchen shuts down and opens back up at 5pm for dinner. No good if you're staying at the hotel and hungry during off hours. You would need to go elsewhere. read more

What a cool Minnesota hipster vibe this place has! Lars is a restuarant/bar in a hotel Renaissance by Marriott. Good location, right off freeways. It was really quiet when we checked them out. I'm guessing it's not very well known yet. As per usual we ordered the burger, great seasoning on this! I am not a fan of fennel and it had a fennel aioli, I asked for it on the side. It was pretty good, didn't even taste the fennel. They have a few Mn beers on tap. Service was great. I really loved the decor of this place! Bartender said in the hotel they have an Olympic sized pool, only one in Mn. I walked around the lobby, this place is cool beans! If you have out of state people, tell them to go here! read more

Flavor and ingredients were good, no complaints here. Preparation was weird. Got take out to my hotel room. Chicken Caesar salad and the appetizer hot wings. The salad contained whole heads of romaine and they only gave me a flimsy plastic fork/knife, so that was comical to eat. Then the wings I asked for ranch, I received probably 2 tablespoons of ranch. While I probably don't need to eat ranch, let alone fried chicken wings, I'd still like more than 2 table spoons! read more

I've been traveling a lot for work and staying at the Renaissance where LARS is at. I've had 3 different meals off of their dinner menu and each one has been very good, most recently a flank steak with black refried beans which was phenomenal. As with most hotel restaurants/bars the drinks are on the high side but this is definitely a good spot to grab a bite and the hotel itself is very nice as well. read more

I had the black bean bison chili entree. The flavor was delicious, but it was a little over salted. It would be nice if it came with a little side of cornbread. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and modern, and the servers were very friendly and attentive. read more

I stopped by the newly revamped LARS, in the Renaissance Minneapolis Bloomington Hotel, on Friday with two co-workers. We ordered 8 dishes in an effort to try as much of the new menu as possible. In a word, outstanding! From the sunfish fillets in a raspberry tartar, to the wild mushroom flatbread and the muscles, the food was very well executed, really thoughtful about local ingredients and incredibly tasty. I also noted there was nothing on the lunch menu over $14, most under--- a very welcome surprise considering Im at a hotel. If you are looking for something new, you won't be disappointed--- I think its an absolute untapped gem of the area. read more

Never even got a chance to eat here. Thought the place looked super cute so decided to check into it for my moms birthday. I tried looking up the menu online and the menu on the website wouldn't work. So, I called to ask if it could be emailed to me or if there was another way to view it. I was told there was no other way to view it and they didn't provide me a solution. I told them that was unfortunate because we would not be coming in without being able to view it first. This is for my moms 50th birthday so I want to be sure the menu looks good for our group. It's too bad they weren't more helpful in providing a solution. We tried it last week (Nov2) for the first time and it was fabulous. Great food with interesting twists & modifications. Menu was not huge, which is a good thing to us. They don't try to offer and be experts on a million different items and styles of food. Decor is rustic with elegance which makes it good for watching football games yet not in a sports bar atmosphere.
