A Milgard bedroom window installed by Larsen is now leaking. He is out of biz and no where to be found.

Similar story to everyone else. Jim took my deposit, never delivered windows, eventually said the factory messed up, canceled the contract and said he would return deposit. This was months ago. No response since. Interviewing lawyers now to go after deposit and damages out of principal. Do not even think about doing business (if you can even call it that). read more

Beware!!!!! What a nightmare to deal with this company. Jim Larsen took our deposit of $2500 back in October 2018 for installation of sliding door. He would not respond to any calls or emails since January. Jim changed his address to the Glass Company Inc. at A Street in Hayward, CA. We went to this office several times and talked to manager, John Sanchez. John mentioned that Jim was in big financial trouble for a long time. He mentioned that he received many complaints about Jim taking monies from people despite his situation. John tried to help us at first but is not responding to any of our calls anymore. Jim Larsen is such a nightmare... beware of him!!! We filed a complaint to BBB and will file in small claims court. read more

After 10 years in our home with single pane windows we had finally had enough of freezing cold winters & blazing hot summers. Not a day too soon we had all of our windows replaced through Larsen Construction. Jim is a top notch businessman, courteous, honest, and dependable. We had several quotes including some of the bid services online and the big home improvement store. Not one of them followed up with us for any questions. Jim conducts business the old school way, sent us a thank you letter and invited us to his beautiful showroom in Hayward to look at the product before we made a final decision. We do not regret choosing Larsen Construction and his prices were competitive. Install team showed up on time and where in and out, clean and professional! Windows look amazing, the house now has a fairly stable climate, no more condensation on the windows! Also, when Jim gave us the quote, he suggested where you could save some money, for example the other guys quoted tinted glass all the way around the home, where Jim mentioned we only needed tint on the west facing side, where the sun sets, obvious right? I must apologize to Jim and Larsen Construction as I had mixed up contractors who had worked on the house: one was terrible, the other did a great job. I mistakenly posted a negative review for Larsen Construction which was meant for the other company. This review thus correctly reflects the positive experience we had with Larsen Construction. We contracted Larsen construction on 2 separate jobs. The first was to replace two sliding doors, and the second was to update all of the remaining windows of the house (both jobs within 1 year of one another). Jim came out to perform each bid-- He was on time and very friendly during the process. The bid came back fairly priced each time making it easy to select Larsen for the job. The workers were also on time and able to complete the job in one day while we were at work--with minimal mess left behind. My true appreciation for Larsen Construction was realized when we contracted a different stucco and drywall company to perform stucco work and installation of a large sliding door. The work was sloppy with no attention to detail. When I compared the work of this other company to that of my Larsen windows (which were Milgard vinyl by the way... all which are holding up very well after 3 years)-- the quality of the Larsen installation was apparent. It's my fault and lesson learned.... you should always contract a window company to do windows and stucco work, and NEVER the other way around. In all, I would definitely contract Larsen for future work on our home, and may even contract them to fix some of the sloppy work left behind by the other contractor. read more

Jim Larsen and his staff are great. They replaced our windows a few years ago and the project was perfect - great pricing, really nice people to have in your home and project completed on time. Last year, we had them come back to replace 2 doors with higher quality locks - again, great experience. Recently one of the door handles seemed be malfunctioning. Jim came out to take a look and agreed that it needed to be replaced. The manufacturer sent out new hardware but sent the wrong part, then sent a damaged part - none of it was the fault of Jim and his crew. While the delays were frustrating, Jim and his team handled the situation with class and professionalism. You can learn a lot about a company when annoying things happen outside their control and we got another taste of what we already knew - Larsen Construction is top notch. Thanks guys for everything! Larsen construction remodeled my Kitchen with new cabinets and windows, and all I can say is that the experience was trouble free, the price more than fair. Completion was on time, and the final result better than expected. I would definitely hire this company for future remodels. read more

BEWARE!! This company took my elderly 80 year old mother's deposit of almost $2,000 back in November 2018 for the installation of 1 door & 2 windows and has been a no-contact company ever since. I think he is gone in the wind, no return phone calls or emails. I just called again today and his office voice mail box is full. I have checked his background everywhere I can think of and found out his contractors license is suspended due to inactive bond insurance. He also has a complaint against him with the BBB. For all of you who are reading this, make sure your check his most recent reviews, not the older ones to get the real story of what's going on with Larsen Construction. Also, I did my homework before calling this company and he was listed on Diamond Certified. Mr. Jim Larsen, if you are reading this, I don't know how you can sleep at night, but I am not giving up in getting my mother's deposit back. I also believe in karma. Nightmare to state the least, Jim Larsen has taken our project and deposit of about 3k and is absconding since 4 months. He is not responding to any emails or calls. His contractor reached out to us saying that he is going through financial trouble and owes him money too so he would like to finish our work, but apparently the left over money is not enough to finish the work either. Jim Larsen's company is first rate. He came out as soon as we called, gave us an estimate and explanation of r the contract and work to be completed, when it would be done and how long it would take. When the installers came...right on time I might add, they removed the old sliding glass door, installed the new one and cleaned the area before leaving. First rate all the way! read more

We had Jim give a quote for replacing a leaky retrofit window with a brand new window, which involves breaking the stucco, flash, fix any damages from leak, and restucco the wall. He told me on the spot that his company can do it and about one day job. He gave the quote in February, and his guys came out to install on a Friday in April. The installation was quick, however, the guy on site told me that he won't be doing the stucco, and that someone else will be coming later tomorrow or next week to do it. That surprised me because Jim had told me this could be done in a day. I had to take a half dayoff work only to see them work 2 hours on this job. This is when my frustrations really start. The previous installers left the installation half complete, with some exposed wood frame, and it was going to rain Monday night and Tuesday. So, I called Jim on Monday to ask when will the "stucco guy" be coming and tell him the situation. His response was that he doesn't know when the stucco guy will be able to do it because he doesn't have a full time stucco person on staff. Surprise. He didn't comment on the impact of rain on the exposed wood other than "that's fine, its going to be light rain". I didn't want the water to get into the insulation and wood inside the walls. So, My wife and I end up spending Monday evening to cover the window area in sheet plastic. I felt like this is something these guys should've done if they knew going in that they wouldn't be able to complete the job in the middle of a rainy season. The rain ended up pouring and was windy Monday night through Tuesday. I called again on Tuesday, for ETA on the stucco guy. Jim still wasn't able to give me a solid date. At this point I'm very disappointed how this job is being managed. Finally he called me Wednesday night and told me the stucco guy will be here Thursday 4pm. When talking to the stucco guy in person, he told me he only work for Jim as a side job, and that in order to do the entire area that may have water damage, he will have to come back. I did not want to keep on waiting so I told them to just finish up the window installation. It rained just couple of hours after the job was complete. Overall, the work was good, but I believe Jim just poorly managed customer expectations on this one since he never mentioned about the part time "stucco" guy up front. He also could have scheduled the installation to be done at a day when both the installers and stucco guys can complete the job in one day as promised. read more

The installed two doors and a kitchen window in November of 2011. I was initially very satisfied with their work and would have rated them 5 stars. But the true test of any business is when a problem occurs, In March 2015 we noticed the Marvin Sliding Glass door had a crack at the bottom. I took pictures and e-mailed them to Jim. I called multiple times and even had an appointment scheduled with Jim which was canceled. I continued to call to get this problem resolved, with no reply. The issue at hand is the Marvin Door warranty which covers any product defects, however if the door was dropped or damaged in the transport or installation then the liability is not on Marvin but on the installer. Regardless of who is paying and who is to blame, I still need my door fixed as there is a large crack that has formed. Since Jim was non responsive, I had to send a certified letter to Marvin doors. The replied immediately and recommended other installers. I got another certified Marvin Door installer to inspect the door for $100 and he told me that it was probably dropped on the corner or hit during shipping that perhaps had a hairline fracture or something that couldn't be seen, the impact from the rubber bumper over time continues to crack the door, hard to say or prove what caused it, so the Marvin Warranty is unlikely to cover this. The result, I'm now going to be out $2K for the material to fix the door which requires replacing the entire frame and also few hundred for the labor for the installation. This is a huge hit to the family budget and I might have to wait until next year before I can fix it. Long term, I'm planning on having other windows installed in my house, but I'm not going to use Larsen, because when things go wrong, it's too hard to get them show up, and it cost me more because they don't stand by their installation or product. read more

We purchased Millgard windows for the entire house from Mr. Larsen. The workers who did the installation were not competent. Some nails were left hazardously sticking out; the patio door screen was cut too short; glue smudges were left on the white sills and frames which eventually turned brown with oxidation. It took months to get Mr. Larson to come inspect the problems. The glue could not be cleaned off without damaging the paint, so he promised to send a painter to sand the smudges and paint over them. After more than one year and numerous calls to his office, he sent a guy who said he was actually a gardener, but he'd try to do the job and promised to come back the following Wednesday to start. That was four months ago, and he never showed nor called. Mr. Larsen ignores messages left at his office, and on the rare occasions he answers the phone, he makes excuses that over time have become offensively unbelievable. Allegedly, the replacement screen was ordered one year ago but the excuses have ranged from: it never shipped; it was mistakenly thrown out; it was taken to another job; it will be received in another 6 weeks; etc. To get off the phone he makes appointments he never intends to keep. Clearly, this man is interested only in making a sale. He has no integrity and he is being reported to Millgard Windows for their intervention in order to get our job completed; as well as to alert them that as a reseller of their product, Mr. Larsen's unprofessional conduct gives the Millgard brand a bad name. read more

This company has not responded to my many phone calls. I was told that it would take approximately 8 weeks from the time I paid over $800 as a deposit. I went to see Mr. Larsen in person about a month ago and he told me it would be about two weeks. I recently called him before mailing my demand letter and it sounded like he said he would call me that evening. I would not suggest this company to anyone. read more

We got several bids and found Larsen's to be competitive. The work was done on time, and the workers were pleasant and professional. The owner and his office person responded promptly to our concerns, and when a few things were not done correctly, the owner immediately offered to make them right. At our request, the owner reported several manufacturing defects to the manufacturer and then followed up to make sure that we were satisfied with the manufacturer's response. read more

We needed a contractor who could not only replace old wood windows but replace rotten window sills and wood damage. Larsen construction was the only contractor interested in doing the job right. Jim recommended a window style that best fit the house. The installers did an outstanding, complete job as promised and now you can not tell that there was any wood damage on a 70 year old house. I had used Larsen Construction in the past for sliding glass doors, and was really happy with the results, so when I was finally ready to replace my windows I turned to them again. They installed 7 windows, including one very large one in the living room. The installers came on time, completed the work in only 3 hours, and left my house as clean as when they arrived.
