Las Brasas is Spanish for "the embers." Thanks, Google. The logo of this restaurant is a phoenix-style chicken, very cool. Decatur's Las Brasas offers up Peruvian fare in the downtown environs. After we were seated, we got to nibble on some complimentary roasted corn while inspecting the menu. In addition to the rotisserie chicken they're known for, there were also saltados and ceviches and other traditional dishes. Here's what I tried. Pantacones ($8): These four discs of flash-fried plantains were a tiny bit bland so I recommend using the avocado crema generously. House yucca fries ($6): The eight yucca fries were great: fluffy and steamy inside. Try them with the aji pepper sauce. House salad ($6): Standard side salad, generous portion was perfect for sharing. A little light on the dressing though. Pollo a la brasa (half rotisserie, $9): Appealing chicken with nice seasoning. Highly recommended. Pollo frito (half, $12): The fried chicken was just okay to me. It was noticeably salty to me, though I will say the skin was crispy and meat moist, as good fried chicken should be. I'd focus on the rotisserie fowl, of course. Service was hospitable and on-point (thanks Marce). Parking was hassle-free in a lot shared with next door neighbor McDonald's. Outdoor seating was available. My dear friends love this place and picked it for our Labor Day lunch. I can see how it's a go to place for them getting take out during busy weeks. The Peruvian chicken everyone raves about must be even better when you've had a busy day and two little ones at home! The food was pretty good- solid chicken and not spicy, but flavorful and juicy - I wasn't sure since a lot of the descriptors on the menu were not words I knew! I got the veggie fried rice which was good (and not greasy) though you couldn't tell there was much asparagus or cremini mushrooms in it. Very generous portion best for folks to share, even bigger than the quite large serving of white rice that is their side version. Our friends raved about the corn and seemed to enjoy their sandwiches (one was chicken salad on a bun and the other some kind of wrap) and the fries looked good. Lots of sauces ranging from mild to super hot. Our server was nice and efficient and it was an overall enjoyable meal for reasonable prices on big portions. read more

Simply put - a hidden gem. Everything from customer service to taste of food was amazing. The food is flavorful and fresh. You can tell it's fresh because it took them some time to prepare and meat was succulent. Definitely one of the best Peruvian Restaurants in Greater Atlanta. Their lamb empanada is good however I wish they also carried chicken or beef empanadas. Looking forward to visiting this place again. Las Brasas is a very popular Peruvian restaurant at the heart of Decatur. As we drove by, we are drawn by the colorful mural right outside of restaurant. It has both spacious outdoor and indoor seating. What do we like? * Friendly service * Casual atmosphere * Live music playing at the background How's the food? * The waiter recommended the rotisserie chicken, naming it to be the dish they are "known for". Except for the light smoky flavor, we don't find it much different from the Kroger or Costco chicken, except for the sauce that goes with it. I personally not a big fans of their sauce. * The octopus fried rice was highly praised. Even using simple ingredients ( shrimp, octopus, corn and green scallion), this is very tasty. * The fried yucca fries is interesting. It's fried thickly cut that has a sauce that goes with. The fries are not seasoned properly; thus tastes a bit bland. Will I recommend this place to friends? Maybe! Next time, I will come again to try the crevice - a Peruvian specialty. read more

The words that I'm about to type cant possibly do this business justice. The food was absolutely incredible! I ordered the Pollo A La Brasa and it was probably the best chicken I've ever had in my life! No lie! The flavor was ON POINT! And the cilantro sauce that came on the side, huacatay I believe, complimented it perfectly! Got a side of asparagus and beans for the table and they were also cooked to perfection with the perfect flavor. My wife ordered the Pato and they did a great job of cooking and preparing that too. I am an avid fan of Peruvian style cooking so I made it a point to try this place out! I came here for lunch (around 2pm) midweek and ordered the quarter chicken (dark meat thigh) with sweet potato fries as my side. The food was wonderfully seasoned and the portion size was great! Things to note: - cocktails are not served at lunch time, however beer and wine are available. - Parking is plentiful and available but can be confusing at it seems to be shared with a mc Donald's parking lot. While I did not see anyone with a boot on their car, it is important to note. -The actual size of the restaurant is not overly large, however, there was a large group of people celebrating an event and they were accommodated nicely in terms of seating for all their guests, (at least 20 people). read more

The quality has went down nothing taste the same and to top it off they charge you 3.30 to get a to- go order .... So basically they penalize you for getting a to - go order . My same order seafood chaffua is 7 dollars more with the same amount of seafood , which is fine but don't charge me for Togo containers , that cost 60 dollars a case for #1 paper Togo boxes . Pass by Las Brasas all the time and so glad I got to try it tonight. I heard all the hype about the rotisserie chicken, which I tried in a to go order. Pretty good! It reminds me of a rotisserie chicken from Publix or Kroger, but slightly more dry and with more unique flavors. Comes with a great green creamy sauce. My favorite dish was the lamb empanadas which had a very flaky skin, flavorful and moist lamb, and delicious chimichurri sauce. I would come back just for that! I also tried the Mexican street corn which had a lot of flavor, almost too much for my taste. My entree was the Ceviche Mixto with flounder, octopus, and shrimp, also came with sweet potato. Not crazy about sweet potato submerged in a citrusy sauce but the ceviche was pretty good. Came with a good amount of seafood for $17. Good food overall and would be back. My wife and I decided to go out for some Peruvian Chicken. First off the charcoal smell when arriving is engulfing that we immediately got ten times hungrier. Our server greeted us promptly and brought water right away. We decided to try many things on our first food adventure here. Mixto Ceviche was lime fresh and the seafood was tasty. This dish was unique with its corn nuts and sweet potato. Nothing too special in terms of taste profile, just citrusy and fresh. We got half a fried chicken and half a classic rotisserie chicken. The rotisserie was good , but not spectacular. Though the price at 10 was awesome. My wife did not like the huacatay sauce. Too minty. They brought other sauces but they were not like what she is used too at other Peruvian places. Like green and yellow sauces for the chicken. The fried chicken was AMAZING. 20 minutes to cook, juicy meat and the crust was to die for. A must try if you are a fried chicken lover. And again price at 12 was awesome. Rounding out our meal was the grilled giant asparagus which has grill marks to die for. So good and big. Yuca fries were ok, but I am not sure they can be any better . Thick and crispy . Water was refilled regularly and server checked in at us outside all the time . Overall, a slightly pricey place for Peruvian chicken, but quality is very high. The chicken here is legit! My partner and I live near the square and have passed this place a million times, but just went to our old favorites. We finally went here a few weeks back. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and Peruvian cuisine. They aren't trying to steer you towards high price menu items or anything. We got a few of the appetizers (yucca fries, calamari) and they were delicious. The main star of the restaurant is their chicken - rotisserie and fried. We were told that the chicken would take an hour to make but we did not mind because we had appetizers. The fried chicken is fresh and delicious and comes with a variety of dipping sauces. We absolutely devoured it and loved it. Drinks here are also good. I recommend the pisco drinks if you wanna go more authentic to Peru, but my partner enjoyed the mezcal drinks and beer selection. Nice place, I sat on the patio. Ordered the chicken salad wrap with sweet potato fries. Fries were perfect, wrap could've used a bit more seasoning but was a good size and seemed quite fresh. I will definitely return. Laura was great at helping with my beer selection I went with the Estrella lager. I 2ill be back to try other things on the menu because other people's food looked Amazing. I had the Ranchero Peru and my bestie had the Hang Saltado. He is vegan and loved his food. It was basically linguine with veggies and I had pulled rotisserie chicken with nacho chips and salsa topped with egg (porched egss) but I asked for mine to be over easy instead but they couldn't accommodate. I didn't love my food and my sangria, though delicious was not strong. I actually wonder if it was virgin. Don't take this as a bad review just try the main menu instead of the brunch menu. We traveled from Tampa FL and were told about this Peruvian restaurant- We were a party of 9 including a 1 year old infant and were treated nasty by one of the waitresses and the bartender. While waiting for our table- We went to the bar as 2 chairs opened and were told that we could not order at the bar and our kids couldn't be next to us. Then we were told that we couldn't wait inside at all. Thankfully we came across Aki on our way out who was super nice and polite and made things work...Yes, we had to still wait outside, but we saw how Aki was trying to get us a table sooner....And that made a huge difference because we felt welcomed. We had just purchased a new car and the dealer's finance officer is a native of Peru. We had been there years ago and my heart yearned for Ceviche. Paul mentioned a fantastic restaurant in Decatur, GA named Las Brasas. We decided to celebrate by ending our day with some great food. We started out with Pisco sours. These are made with Pisco (an amber flavored brandy from the wine-making regions of Peru), egg white, lemon juice, simple syrup and a dash of Angostura bitters. Our appetizers consisted of spiced lamb empanadas with mint and chimichurri and breaded Yukon potato balls filled with spiced lamb filling & pico de gallo called Papa Ralleno. We moved on to a mixed Ceviche that contained flounder with Spanish octopus, calamari and tiger shrimp. We couldn't decide on white or red sauce; so we had both. Then, it was on to our entrees. Rose had the Mixed Chaufa Marisco. This dish consisted of Spanish octopus, calamari, shrimp and flounder fried rice, egg and spices. I was even more adventurous and ordered out of the box. I had Corazon. a grass fed beef heart that is served with fried potatoes and a huacatay sauce. This sauce is made from the leaves of black mint that is ground into a paste with some salt and citric acid. While the restaurant was authentic, they didn't have Cuy (el Cobayo in Spanish); otherwise known as Guinea pig. I was hoping for this dish that is served in Peru on special occasions. Also missing from the menu was a gelatinous dessert made from purple potatoes (Papa Peruanita). But there was more than enough to meet the eye as well as the stomach. Las Brasas is a definite port of call when in the Atlanta area. read more

Las Brasas is a solid choice. Relatively small place with minimal frills. The service was a bit slow but one guy was waiting on the entirety of the place so he was doing his best. The food was much better than I expected. We got the lamb empanadas which were so flavorful and were stuffed with a very generous portion of meat inside. I'm a huge leche de tigre ceviche fan so naturally that's the option I chose. Not the best ceviche I have had but good enough. I felt like there could have been a bit more flavor in the sauce/brine and the fish seemed a bit too slimy for what I have had before but I would get it again/try another type of ceviche on the menu. We also got the marisocs saltado with the linguine and we loved it. The seafood was cooked wonderfully and the flavors were vibrant. The cocktails (the pisco sour) were also delicious. Lauren was an exceptional service. They did a great job blocking off every other table during this pandemic and every staff were wearing mask. I had the mixed ceviche and grilled octopus. Both were very good and not rubbery. It was really hot in there but I survived with water and caprihina. First the place looks abandoned. You have to go through a middle looking slide door, dangerous looking to me! The to go parking was very small to enter into the front of the building,ugg. One spot, as I stayed in my car to make sure the place was open, watching people go inside. Eyes turning sideways... I walked in you have to go to the left to get takeout. There was a young guy taking the to go orders. I am like "let me look at the menu" as I felt pressured as if I should know what I wanted already and I'd never been their before. I wanted to order a half chicken meal with all white meat. Why did I say that??? The guy was like we don't do all white meat! I'm saying why NOT? He's informing me that they supposedly cut the whole chickens in a way that they don't offer that! STOP the madness. I reply if I need to pay extra that's no problem as I don't eat dark meat it's fatty! He's like no we can't. I then proceeded to ask him about the sauce that was a mystery as well. Mind you I eat Peruvian food all the time and NEVER encounter no all white meat and the confusion of the sauces. I even had to go back in. I ordered the meal and went back in to secure my salad which was said came with it and one side. This guy said I only charged you for the chicken and rice. SMH the chicken doesn't look that good.
