We ordered the beef empanada, brussel sprouts, fry bread, ceviche, lomo saltado and seafood rice. Loved the beef empanada, brussel sprouts and fry bread, and my friends loved the ceviche. I don't think the larger shareable items are really worth it, the seafood rice was okay and I did not like the beef that came with the lomo saltado at all and it came with 4 small pieces. I also feel like the server pressured us into getting more dishes, and I didn't like that. I would consider coming back from a drink and some apps, but not the larger dishes. read more

Came for dinner and I parked in the deck behind the restaurant! They validate parking for two hours. Service here was friendly and attentive! We got the arroz con mariscos and the papas Fritas. The rice was pretty flavorful and it was a good portion. I will say though for $40 there really was not enough seafood in the dish to be called a seafood rice dish. There was two pieces of each seafood, shrimp, calamari and clam. The shrimp was not the freshest in my opinion it tasted a little grainy. But the rice itself was good and flavorful. Papas fritas was just any ordinary fries and it wasn't very hot or crispy but I enjoyed the dipping sauce. I can't believe I haven't been to Tio Lucho's sooner. Visited for a friend's birthday dinner with a large party and had an amazing time! The restaurant offers parking validations if you park in the parking deck behind the restaurant in the same building. Upon entry we were kindly greeted by the hostess and the staff was very accommodating for our large party while stating how we can best make serving a party of our seamless which I appreciated. The service was great from start to finish. To start I ordered the salmon chips to share with my husband. I was nervous as I've only had salmon chips at another local restaurant but Tio Lucho's version was very good. The chips were very balanced in ratio of salmon to chip with the chip being on the thinner side to highlight the salmon. Our waitress shared that the restaurant is a fusion of Peruvian and South Georgia style food. They highlight their seafood as their speciality and from the words of others at the table who ordered oysters, ceviche and cuts of fish they do that very well. For my entree I had the Lomo Saltado with a side of red beans and rice. The steak in the Lomo Saltado was extremely tender and the overall dish was rich in flavor. I wish there was more steak because of how good it was. Once dinner hours ended the restaurant turned into a dance floor with a DJ which we also enjoyed for a bit. Came here on a Saturday night with a group of 6. It was very loud and very busy. I think this place is better if you're with people you know and share food with. This was a meetup dinner, and so not that. I asked the server about the larger dishes, and he said they'd be way too big for one person. Charming spot with beautiful and tasty dishes! My friend and I had plans to go to Las Brasas for dinner since it was National Ceviche Day. I used to frequent and love that place, and my friend had come across it in her searches, so we decided it was a no-brainer. Unfortunately, when we arrived, they were (temporarily) offering to go service only. We diverted and drove a few miles down the road to Tio Lucho's instead. We headed inside the restaurant, and I looked around at the beautiful decor and ambiance. Although the restaurant had most of the tables filled already, we were seated quickly with no reservation. Pretty good for a Saturday night! We were quickly greeted by our smiling and welcoming waiter. My apologies for his name slipping my mind, as I finally write this review, 8 days later. He was great! For my entree, I got the ceviche mixto. My friend wanted the ceviche nikkei but unfortunately, they had just run out. Instead she got the tuna maki. Both of us loved our dishes! The food is a little on the expensive side, but if you're looking for a cozy date night place, either with your partner or with friends, give this place a try! I'm certainly adding Tio Lucho's to my favorites in the city after the incredible meal we had! I've been dying to try this place since they opened and have heard all the rave about it. Our group of 8 had dinner on Wednesday night. I did have to e-mail the restaurant since Resy did not allow me book for more than 5 people, but they were quick and responsive about this. The space is beautiful and spacious as soon as you walk in. They have a great patio to enjoy in warmer weather. We did find service to be quite slow, but the food truly made up for it. Our group pretty much tried mostly everything on the menu - ceviche mix, salmon maki, fry bread, tortitas, smoked fish dip, leafy salad, arroz con mariscos, fried catfish a la macho, NC flounder, lomo saltado and pollo a la brasa. There was nothing that we didn't like, but my personal favorites and will probably order over and over again are the fry bread, tortitas (served with a fried pancake), leafy salad (so light and refreshing and loved the dressing), arroz con mariscos (definitely reminds me of paella and served with tons of seafood) and lomo salted (tender beef and that sauce was delish). read more

I wouldn't call the food super traditional, the chef definitely puts his own spin on the dishes, but everything we tried was tasty. Just a heads up, the portions are more like tapas style so you'll probably want to order a few things to share. My favorite dishes were the lomo saltado and Arroz con mariscos . I saw some reviews saying the lomo was tough or not seasoned right, but when we had it it was tender and flavorful. Could be a hit or miss depending on the day. I had high hopes for Tio Lucho's, but unfortunately the service and food fell short. We were able to walk in on a Friday night at 7:30 PM though, so no wait with no reservation was great. My husband and I both started with pisco sours. They were meh, not the best I've had but also not the worst I've had. Typically, I think pisco sours are more sour, and these were on the too-sweet side. For our food we got: - Causa de Tuna (6/10): decent, but the tuna was overpowered by the rest of the dish - Chicken Empanadas (4/10): first of all, when it came out it was beef not chicken. Second of all, the quality of the dough on the empanada was bad... I was super disappointed by this - Pulpo a la Plancha (7/10): this was definitely the best dish we got: the octopus was cooked well. - Lomo Saltado (6/10): this is one of my favorite dishes EVER, but Tio Lucho's version fell short. The first bite we had of the beef, we thought it was a meatball because it was such a fatty texture. For the price tag, the quality of the meat was bad. The flavor of the sauce was pretty decent though. We've eaten a good amount of Peruvian food and were disappointed in the quality of the food given the price tag. The service was also lacking. We waited a long time to order drinks, then a long time to order apps, then a long time to order more food. At the end, we were brought the wrong check. The ambiance of the restaurant is very fun and cute though! I would maybe recommend Tio Lucho's for a fun dinner where quality of food isn't the top priority but ambiance is. Came here when we were in town for a work convention. The inside decor is very nice. It was not very busy while we were there and the restaurant appears to be able to accommodate large parties. I wanted to try something unique to their menu so I went with a passionfruit pisco sour. It was delicious and just the right amount of sweet and boozy. I was very fortunate to have gone with a group that does not mind sharing food. The fry bread with the whipped cream cheese and aji pepper jelly or a must! Very delicious. My favorite was the hamachi crudo. It tasted fresh and the presentation was beautiful! Went to Tio Lucho's for a Thursday date night. The vibe in the restaurant is ok- it's kind of like a dressed up margaritaville vibe, and the food tastes like it too. I love Peruvian food and have some good Peruvian friends, this just didn't hit the mark for the price point. We got the salsa trio to start- all the salsas were a super heavy cream base and came in tiny ketchup cups. We didn't eat much of any of them because they were so heavy (and I normally love cream based sauces). We also ordered the hamachi tiradito which was 6 small pieces. Feels like shrinkflation? For mains, we split the smoked fish dip, arroz com mariscos, and chicken skewers. Everything was... fine. Nothing was particularly fresh or interesting and it tasted like all the food came off a Sysco truck. We came across this restaurant while browsing on Resy for somewhere to eat dinner. We made reservations but didn't need them because there was plenty of open tables available. The hostess sat us right away and was pleasant. The decor is nice and bright. The dinner chairs aren't the most comfortable, but they're tolerable. The food menu changes very regularly per the waitress. We were told that 2 of the menu items weren't available. This was disappointing as I heard great things about the chicken. The ceviche was very delicious! The calamari on top had a lot of breading. The halibut was also great as far as the flavor. I wish the halibut was a filet - there were large bones in our halibut and not much meat. The sauce that came with it was delicious! We enjoyed the pisco cocktails also. read more

I visited this spot over the summer and was so excited to have some Peruvian food. I was really looking forward to the national dish. At the time, I was unable to eat red meat so I was very disappointed when I learned that the lomo saltado was not available as pollo saltado. Everything else that was available to me I combed some version of fried fish. I reluctantly chose a fish that arrived in small portion with small side portions; underwhelming for the price. My meal included fish, collard greens, and a thin saucy combination of beans and calamari pieces. The textures weren't complimentary in my opinion and everything tasted salty. The others in my party were also disappointed and didn't finish their meals. I simply didn't enjoy my meal and nothing about our experience was redeeming; given the incredibly underwhelming experience, I can definitively say I will not be back. I walked into this vibrant spot with high expectations and left with a belly full of bold, beautiful bites--and a few thoughts to share. Let's start with the showstopper: those perfect little towers of yellow potato love. (Photo 1) Chicken Causitas never looked so good. The potato was smooth, light, and just the right touch of creamy. The chicken salad on top added a cool, savory contrast with fresh microgreens that gave it that fancy "Instagram me" finish. This is the dish you order, photograph, eat, and then low-key think about ordering again. Next up: the sushi-meets-ceviche experiment. (Photo 2) Deep-fried rolls topped with mango salsa, crispy leeks, and a zesty sauce that puddled up like a flavor jacuzzi. Crunchy, fresh, colorful--basically a Latin-American-Japanese flavor bomb that totally worked. Were the rolls a bit heavy? Maybe. Would I eat the whole plate solo again? Absolutely. Now, the arroz con mariscos (Photo 3)--let's talk about that wild, herb-strewn party on a plate. A fragrant pile of seafood rice overflowing with clams, shrimp, and vegetables, all bathed in that smoky, saffron-kissed flavor. Honestly, it was borderline spiritual. Like paella got a beach tan in Lima. Then came the creamy ceviche with fried calamari (Photo 4). A creamy leche de tigre base with big chunks of fish and chickpeas that was rich, punchy, and comforting. But the real kicker was that fried calamari on top--crisp, golden rings that added crunch and height. A satisfying twist on a classic. And finally, the oysters (oysters in general are not a favorite of mine) (Photos 5 & 6). Served chilled on a bed of ice, topped with corn, red pepper, and what I'm guessing is a citrusy leche de tigre. Cold, clean, and bracing with a spicy kiss at the end--this is the starter for anyone who wants to feel fancy without being fussy. So, why only 4 stars? Service was solid, vibe was lovely, but a few flavors felt like they were competing instead of harmonizing. Nothing major--but enough to keep it from a full five-star. read more

A trip to Peru by way of Atlanta! Recently, my wonderful manager came into town and we made plans for a team dinner. When she asked me for recommendations, I dug into my handy Yelp collection of restaurants that have been on my list to try. Tio Lucho's was the perfect choice because I saw the love coming from my fellow Yelpers and with my manager being Peruvian, I knew (and hoped) she'd be a fan. Parking was easy when I arrived, leading me to a nice little spot on the street around the corner. Upon arrival, the hostess guided me over to our cozy table close to the kitchen. I'll say that service was amazing the entire evening! Our glasses were never empty and there was always a dish on the table. We started with Pisco Sours because, of course. I don't believe that I had ever had one before but if I had, it was quickly forgotten once I tasted this version. It was sweet but sour, fresh and frothy, loved it. To eat, we went with the tuna tiradito, ceviche, causa, lomo saltado, and pollo a la brasa. Friends - when I say that this was one of the best meals I've had in a minute. Located in a very trendy area with a lot of action, the restaurant itself is nice and the latin music appropriate, but a little too loud for conversation. Menu is surprisingly limited in breadth for a Peruvian establishment. Ceviche was quite small for the price, and not as complex or as spicy as is typical. Seafood mariscos was very tasty. Chicken dish was a little dry, but had flavor though the collard greens were a Southern twist that missed with us. Selection of Spanish and Portuguese wines was very good. The timing on dinner wasn't the greatest, with one main coming out way before the other. The lomo saltado was very mid. The catfish a lo macho was much better, though I ordered it grilled instead of fried (which I thought made more sense for the dish). Now before you come at me for my 3 stars let me explain & side note I'm also Peruvian . The restaurant is very cute. It has indoor and outdoor seating. Hostess sat us right away & our server was very nice and attentive. I do appreciate that they do validate parking in the lot next-door, and the restrooms were pristine. For me, the reason behind the three stars is that I find certain dishes, being overpriced for the quantity of food. Specifically a main staple Peruvian plate, which is Lomo Saltado. I would expect a "high quality meat" & with there literally only being 4 pieces of it for $32 is extreme. The sauce is flavorful so please don't misunderstand that it WAS tasty along with the french fries onions and tomatoes. However I would've appreciated more meat on the plate. I also would've loved that they would offer as a side item choclo but they did have cancha which isn't on the menu, but I did ask and they did provide a side of that. We also had the Frye bread reminded me of a sweet flat bread I would say its the size of a pita bread but again for 2 pieces $12 ...well again just my opinion maybe pricing based on location.
