After visiting an Alberto Jr location and receiving a disappointing California Burrito, I decided to drop by Aliberto's Jr to try their rendition out. Carne Asada Fries Burrito ($10.74) - I have no idea why they call this a Carne Asada Fries Burrito rather than a California Burrito. Other than the fact that they have a California Burrito on the menu that isn't a California Burrito, but I digress. Anyway, this burrito is a surprisingly solid California Burrito. It's about 8 inch by 3.5 inches in size and is packed full of ingredients. They don't cheapen things out by overdoing it on the fries and instead focus on a well balanced burrito. The fries that are included still have a bit of a crisp on them and are tender on the interior. They construct the burrito so that there's essentially a layer of fries on the bottom, which is topped by everything else. The carne asada is probably the weakest part of the burrito - it's somewhat flavorful, but extremely salty and is missing any char or smokiness. Instead, it's very tender, although there are portions with fat and gristle attached. It could definitely use some more time on the grill. They add plenty of cheese, melted nicely, and sour cream and guac, more than enough to moisten every bite. While they do have a salsa bar, I found that there was enough moisture in the burrito that it didn't require any salsa. The tortilla is crisped up a bit on the flat top so it's warm and pliable. Overall the burrito is very well balanced, and the construction is good enough that it can easily be eaten on the go without falling apart. This is one of the better California Burritos I've had outside of San Diego. (4/5) The burrito was just under $11 before tax. There's not many other places around Seattle that can get you such value for the price. This place is solid for SoCal-style Mexican food. It's pretty much the same as all of the -berto's restaurants down in San Diego, so whenever I have a craving for that, I'll be back. Side note: I'm kind of surprised that Alberto Jr and Aliberto's Jr haven't filed lawsuits against each other, given that they have entirely different ownership, yet only have a single letter difference in the name and have logos that are essentially identical. Yes, I know some of it has to do with -berto's in general, but these two in particular are very easy to confuse and in very close proximity to each other. California burrito and chili container about the same width and 80% was expired pico de gallo. More like a flute than a burrito

The place has really taken a nosedive. The burritos are as wide as the chili containers they serve, and the food is just plain nasty. It's never good anymore. South Seattle, on the other hand, is pretty consistent. But this Aurora location is terrible, no matter what time of day you go.

This place is pretty awesome. I've only been through the drive-through twice. It's a little bit ridiculous how to navigate getting in and out, but worth the effort. Birria meat is the specialty here, and they do it well. Great flavor, ample portions... exactly what I look for. But I also like their regular crunchy tacos with various meat fillings like carnitas or chicken. This is much better than your traditional fast food taco joints. It's much more authentic and tasty. The unfortunate thing for me is that I am on that side of the water infrequently, and this restaurant is near several other restaurants that I really like as well. So either I don't stop here, or when I do, it causes me to absolutely go over the top eating more than I should on that day. I give it a thumbs up, though, mostly because of the convenience of being able to drive through the varied menu, even though birria is their thing, and the food is fresh and flavorful.

This lady is rude bad ass customer service

All we did was ask for her to take off sour cream and she was rude about it and had nasty at

The food is good. When the restaurant first opened the food was amazing. Now when we order something is always missing. Guacamole/Sour Cream!! How can you miss the most important part of the meal? The employees over the phone sounds annoyed then says come back... nobody wants to drive back. Then your food is cold plus you have now wasted my time and money!! Triple check your ORDER!!!!! Everything time

Quick service for takeout. We skipped the drive thru and walked in. We tried the following this trip: Carne asada burrito Shrimp taco 5 rolled tacos Chorizo breakfast burrito All good and ready in about 5 minutes. Salsa bar was open too. Would go back. Parking may be a challenge since it's a tiny lot.

Two bites in, Carne Asada Burrito - steak, pico de gallo and guacamole (12/3/22)

I had been awaiting this site to open in the former Taco Time location at 143rd/Aurora. Aliberto's Jr finally opened around Thanksgiving and greatly appreciate fellow Yelp Elites, Kristine, Erik, and Erica for posting. Note: unlike other fast food drive throughs, it does not have an entrance from the south, enter from the northside of the building adjacent to the auto parts store. From entrance to exit, it's like an upside down horseshoe. Trust me, I wasn't the only one having a drive through moment on this slushy Saturday (12/3/22). Big plus - their drive through is open 24/7. This could be dangerous, lol. There is a vast posted menu, but of course, Murphy's Law couldn't take a proper photo. I did ask for a takeout menu though. Turns out Aliberto's Jr is part of a Burritos California chain with sites in Seattle's University District and Fremont, Mountlake Terrace, and Lakewood. Because they go by various names, I wouldn't be surprised if there were additional locations. For this first ever visit, I ordered a carne asada burrito and was given both green and red salsa in my takeout bag. It sure was hefty that I weighed it on my baking scale....it was 19.25 ounces, well over a pound! I literally had not had a carne asada burrito for years, as I had switched to tacos and quesadillas. This particular behemoth was well wrapped in a tortilla containing grilled steak, pico de gallo, and guacamole. No rice, beans, cheese, or sour cream. Perfect since I didn't want any excessive carbs or dairy. This was delicious and gave me instant San Diego vibes. Convenient, economical, delicious, and friendly drive through service.

Pollo asado soft taco too big for my hand
    Trang N.

I go to San Diego about once a year. Whenever I'm there, i hit the taco spots hard. This new gem takes me there every time. Their fresh guacamole sauce and pico topped soft tacos gets me every time. I've tried ever taco twice over and the best tacos you can get are the el pastor(marinated pork) and pollo asado(grilled chicken) soft tacos. At 3.99 a piece they are loaded. I mean LOADED with meat. Look at the picture. Each taco is bigger than my hand and weighs over half a pound. If you want a small meal, get their kids menu chicken burrito or mini taquitos, it comes with fries or beans and rice with a drink for 5.99. You can't beat that. From 7am to 2pm they have a breakfast burrito special. For 4 bucks but you get a packed burrito with everything for the farm. You get ham, egg, cheese potatoes. The burrito weighs over a pound. Pro tip: get the kids meal with fries and get a side of carne asada (for 3.24) and pile the meat on top of your fries. Top your fries with pico, salsa, creama or guac and you will have a flavor bomb in your mouth so good you'll plan on alibertos Jr in your permanent budget like you do with Starbucks. The price to food ratio is awesome. You easily fill yourself for under 10 bucks. They lovely ladies at the register are soo nice, they make you wanna come back. El chino gordo has a permanent seat here twice a week. Y'all don't even know. Do yourself a favor. Come to this spot before it blows up. The 24 hour drive thru within 4 blocks of two weed spots is pure genius.

Although it's naturally very fatty, the flavor and juiciness was retained after cooking - so they didn't screw it up. The salsa verde was a very nice accompaniment, as it tasted light, fresh, and a good complement to the fat of the meat. The mole enchiladas were less good. The mole sauce used leaned way too heavily on a sweet flavor - having little to no nuttiness whatsoever. It didn't taste anywhere close to some of the best moles I've had. The enchilada underneath was fine - nothing special. Both dishes came with beans and rice. Both were slightly above average, but nothing to write home about. I would say the portions were well sized in terms of overall amount, but the enchiladas were quite small compared to the beans and rice. With these two dishes we ended up around 28 per person. Overall, it's average Mexican food. 6.5/10

Before it seemed like Maiz Molino was focusing on elevated, unique Mexican dishes (shown in the pics in my prior review such as short rib, and other sort of "fusion" dishes, and more seafood focused, etc.) Now, the menu seems way more generic and casual like enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, tamales, etc. just offered w/ different proteins. They are still focusing on maiz but just a bit more generic in the preparation and offerings. Also, they had 2 separate menus which was a bit confusing. One is a generic all day menu and then another menu had brunch and dinner on it. It was around 5:30 p.m. but they were out of a particular steak dish that we were interested in. Service was friendly. Love that personal, hands on approach for a mew team member, and Sidekick did a great job in monitoring our table and replenishing water. Have to stop here and express my appreciation for Andrew and how he took the time to explain the philosophy and genuine team vibe of the restaurant. Oftentimes when a restaurant adds a flat 20% gratuity, you get the feeling this is not passed on to the servers. Not so here. He explained that it's shared among the servers, bar, and other staff, with only a bit retained by management, but even that finds its way into their wages. Terrific work environment and happy to see it. It definitely shows in the level of service. But we're here to eat. Didn't take a picture, but one of my dining companions ordered the burrito with red chili sauce and it was very good. Just the right amount of heat in the sauce. The Cantina celebrates Taco Tuesday, so I took advantage of this. You get the opportunity to try 5 different street tacos for the low price of $15. For another $4 you order it fully loaded which is a steal (guac, pickled onions, lettuce, giardano, crema, and another lovely sauce). Each of the tacos were really delicious and packed full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower and the beef. Was surprised how much I liked the popcorn chicken - still juicy and not greasy in the least. Andrew treated us to a round of the hatch green chili. I was delighted because it was a dish I wanted to try. He described it perfectly: a little kick, but you can't stop eating it. He was right. A bowl of this in the winter with their cornbread (which I'm confident will be delicious) will preempt a winter cold. The sauces on the table are not to be ignored either. The green chili sauce was fruity with a little heat, the scorpion chili brings the heat, but their homemade chili oil is phenomenal. I could put this on everything. In short, the Cantina delivers. Excellent food, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and fun staff, and a cool vibe. I'll bet the cocktails will also be good. Definitely adding to the regular rotation!
