From the moment I stepped in to the building it took five minutes to even get acknowledgement from the staff. We are seated and our server couldn't list more than three beers on tap. Seem flustered when we asked for more than water. We waited and waited now the table behind us had not only placed their order but about finished when finally had a different server come to finally take our appetizer order. Still no refills or utensils. My family and I gave this place an hour and fifteen mins of wasted time with the worst service I have experienced at a restaurant. Not impressed with the Grand Opening of Las Casuelas on Sylvan. I arrived at 2pm and left before 3pm. Lunch time... Chips too thick, not light. Bean Dip bland and watered down. Salsa bland and not spicy. Food was also bland. Had 2 item Chicken Enchilada and Carnita Taco which should have been 1 for item $12, 2 items $14. Enchilada. Chicken bland. The saving grace was the green sauce. Microwaved melted cheese on top. Nothing else inside tortilla. Taco. Carnita bland. Tortilla between soft and crispy, but too soft. Added a 3rd item or ala carte Chile Verde Pork Burrito to try out another meat. Burrito was ok because it was Chile Verde pork. Burrito about 3" to 4" long and about 1 1/2" wide. It was small with meat only. Not worth $5. Dinner is $15, $17, $19 which I was charged for 3 items at $19. I asked about it, got no answer and charged dinner price anyways with no explanation. Service was bad. Maybe me and another customer. I did not see the server to get a refill on drink until I was done with eating. Memo's was a good restaurant I always looked forward to eat. Finally had the chance to try this spot after my co worker hyped it up to me and I have to say the hype was reaaalll. " DON"T DO IT, RIP OFF & the food is awful.. Take it from a real LATINA. I stated to Omar, the manager that this is not my first time having issues with the quality of their food and service. Staff always forgets a part of your order, or the order is incorrect, and when you notify them. They put you on hold for a very long time. All staff is rude and very unprofessional. I stated to Omar, that I'm documenting these issues and my history with them on YELP. Hopefully another customer won't have to go through this drama/mess. My husband went to pickup my order. After he paid $19 cash for a 32 oz of chicken soup. It had very little juice, no flavor, very little of carrots, potatoes, and squash. The girl stated to him " we don't give back change ( $150.) 50 cents was from my change being a $150. It's not about the money it's the principal. This also happened once before. They keep the coins for a tip but just take it without telling nor asking the customer if it's ok? In regards to customer's change. Omar, the manager took my order & stated repeatedly I got you and I'll take care of you and I'll get it right. Omar is Rude, and very incompetent. I'm a very proud Latina, woman and know REAL authentic Mexican food. Their Spanish rice tasted old, dry, hard, and no flavor. I cannot believe this establishment, is still in business. After driving about 6 hours from LA and spending a long day taking care of family business it was time to shake off a little stress. We all decided on finding some good local Mexican cuisine and we chose Las Casuelas... one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to thus far. This is how I will start my review and yes I say one of the best even considering the plethora of Mexican restaurants I've been to in all of Los Angeles. I arrived with my group and we walked in. A very lively bar area to the left and a very nice dining area to the right. Spanish decor everywhere with emphasis on cooking pots and bowls, hence the name of the restaurant. We ordered a good selection items... Pollo con Chili Molcajete with chicken, steak, and shrimp Quesadilla Al Pastor Taco Truck Style Torta Tacos Dorados All of which was very delicious and the portions were very generous. I had a traditional Cadillac Margarita which looked innocent but had a good amount of fuel to almost kick me to the curb. There Manga Margarita which was large a tasty as well. We showed up a little on the late side. About an hour before closing. I prefer to avoid going to a restaurant close to closing time so I felt we were cutting it close. That being said, the staff was super ultra mega friendly and hospitable, beyond expectation considering how close it was to closing time. This place is great! read more

First of all, our family came for Christmas from out of town. Day after Christmas, we decided to try this restaurant. The waitress gave us lunch menus. We all ordered off the lunch menu and asked the waitress questions about the menu. I wanted a garlic shrimp dinner, she said, it was 19.00. I asked her if the shrimp bowl on the lunch menu was good for 15.00? She said, "it's OK." I ordered that to save a few bucks. My whole family ordered off the lunch menu. When we got our checks, we were absolutely shocked! My shrimp bowl was 20.00, not 15.00. My families meals were all higher. We asked why? She said, "Well, when I took your cards to pay, it was no longer giving me the lunch price, so u got charged the regular price!" Really???? How awful are these people to do this to others. One shrimp bowl & soda came over 26.00. Rediculous! She would not change it no matter how much we explained that we were there ordering at 2:30 & should hv been charged for lunch! She allowed us to order off lunch menu, but when we paid, of course it's going to be after 3:00. That was so wrong on many levels. We will never be back. The whole meal, our server seemed less than interested in us and like he really didn't want to be speaking to anyone. Now the food- holy hell the food... The bacon wrapped shrimp were cooked to a double death! Like...barely edible and no sauce. *cough* so dry I got the chicken taquitos- first bite...a long bone came out in my bite. No thank you. Luckily hubs was kind enough to switch with me. He had ordered the Torta Milenesa- so the fries that were with this were actually bomb. Great spice. Great shopping center location so plenty of parking. Entrance is open to the bar area. We called a week before to reserve a table of 12 only to be told we needed to come in person with a $50 deposit. Since we all live out of the area this didn't work. When we arrived they made it difficult to be seated; they wanted an exact number and would not set up till we could confirm. Love coming to have dinner and drinks. We usually get our regulars taco truck tacos and bacon wrapped shrimp which are our favorite go to meals. I have tried their molcajetes which is good but I have tried better elsewhere. I recently tried their shrimp ceviche tostadas and was really impressed. They give you 4 tostadas which was so filling. Very good food and well priced for quality and portions. My daughter had the super burrito and I got the garlic chicken, which came with rice, beans, guacamole and tortillas. We also ordered horchata. It was good but a little on the too sweet side. They also have a kids menu with the usual food options in case your child isn't into eating Mexican food. All diners get fresh chips with beans and a spicy salsa (and you can buy some of this and other sauces of theirs to go). So one star knocked since it was somewhat dirty and we had to ask for silverware a few times before we finally got it. I guess there are some messy eaters here because we came at noon and they were vacuuming most of the time we were there. On the bright side at least they were trying to keep things clean. I feel like this is a default place to grab dinner when no one wants to cook. It's always busy and the food is always solidly middle ground but it's never blown us away and the service is always decent. We've had a few instances where we order food to go and get home and have something totally different from what we actually wanted to order. That said they've always solved the problem and been sorry for the experience. They have a great house salsa and you can always be seated quickly. Plus if you're starving you can usually get your takeout in 20 minutes or less. Overall a great restaurant to grab when you don't know what else to get but not at the top of my cravings list. This place takes the cake when it comes to lousy customer service. Attended a birthday celebration here last Saturday and mind you, drove from out of town for this dinner. We called ahead to make a reservation and was told there are no reservations and that it was first come first serve. We arrived with our party of 8 (adults + kids) and were seated in a private dining area. We did not request this setting, but it was nice since we were celebrating a birthday. Once we finished our meals, we were making the most of our visit since we were visiting from out of town and were chatting amongst ourselves. We were then told that we had been there too long (no time restrictions posted) and needed to move to accommodate another party that put a deposit down for that space (this kind of sounds like a reservation to me, but ok). They refused anymore service if we didn't move. The delivery of the messaging was awful, distasteful and rude. We were told we can sit at the bar. With the kids and a toddler? mmhm okay...what a joke. Definitely will not be returning here. Management and their hospitality team need some training for sure. My family of four and I came here last night for the first time in a long time. We were quickly reminded why we never ate there. This place I has terrible service. And I mean terrible! There are employees EVERYWHERE talking, laughing and doing everything else other than helping customers. We finally got sat once the hostess came out of her conversation in the kitchen. We sat for 10 minutes before we even received chips and salsa and put in our drink order. Then, they came back to take our order. My husband received his plate first. Then about 10 minutes later, my kids received their two A La carte TACOS. Then about 20 minutes after my husband received his food, my meal finally showed up. It was bizarre. I used to love this place. I started going around 10 years ago. I get the same thing Everytime...Shrimp Quesadilla. It's supposed to come with Shrimp, grilled onions and bell peppers. Yesterday I came in with my family and I ordered my shrimp quesadilla and what I received was a somewhat toasted Tortilla with a few pieces of shrimp (possibly 2 shrimp in total if you put them all together), some raw Bell pepper and I kid you not... About half of a RAW ONION. Not grilled, not sauteed, not cooked at all. It was the biggest disappointment I've ever seen in a Mexican dish... Let alone from here.
