My family and I happened upon this place on a beautiful Sunday in June. I had no intention of eating ice cream, but my kids are always begging to stop anywhere that has it. The gentleman behind the counter treated us. He was the perfect combination of salesman and dairy craftsman. I was holding out and just helping my boys to make a choice. That is when the samples started flying at me. The first one he gave me was guava. I was hooked right there. The fresh and creamy bite was soft but mixed with bits of guava. The rest of the samples were a delicious blur. I went back to the first one, guava, with no regrets. The rest of my family went with paletas; they had rave reviews. I'm on cloud 9! It is so much more than a popsicle place, but then it is also a POPSICLE PLACE!! Guava, chilli mango, queso raspberry, kiwi...where do I begin? All my childhood cells went into the mitotic phase as soon as I stepped inside. (sorry nerd joke) Most of the menu is in Spanish, can be a bit intimidating but also quite self explanatory. Their extensive flavor options aren't limited to popsicles as there are plenty of Ice-creams, sorbets, agua de fresa (fresh / fruity flavored water) to choose from. The popsicles come in two options- with milk aka creamy and water based aka refreshing and light.. I tasted couple ice creams too since "who says no to free tastings" but the one that stood out for me was guava (like a fresh, ripe fruit in every bite). Now for popsicles let me get to the highlight- mango chilli flavor..Oh my!!! Oh my my!! It was tart, it was sweet, it wasn't too spicy and it tingled every single one of my taste bud. If you're anything like me (aka Ms awesome) and you loveeeee sour stuff...wooo hoo you can't afford to miss this one. Prices are super affordable! I think they vary according to flavor (no habla espanol!) Popsicles range is somewhere around $2-$4 Server lady was patient, explained me the Spanish named flavors well... Now I know- Gordita means cake pop and Mamey is a sweet Mexican fruit. They only accept Credit cards if over $5 . My bill was over that but while I was paying with my card their internet connection broke down so it didn't go through. Gave couple tries until it finally got connected again, but I had to wait a while because they started serving 'all' others before me. And that's the only reason I deduct a star. I was really surprised to see so many paleta shops in Chicago, but was really happy to see so many close to my Airbnb when my friend and I were visiting this past summer. This particular paleteria was quite close to our rental, and while pretty non-descript inside, offered many different flavors of paletas, as well as some different snack offerings. We stuck with their paletas, and they were all quite good. Worth a stop at if you happen to be nearby and are hankering for an ice cold treat. read more

Their products are decent. The place is tiny, and I walked in today and 2 tables were pushed together, with 8 maskless people. This is illegal in that seated parties cannot exceed a party of 6. Also, said tables literally take up half the open floor space, so you're standing right in front of, or by the maskless party while you order and wait. Moreover, on various occasions, I've seen staff serving customers with masks under their noses. Also, from a functional perspective, the staff doesn't even have a basic understanding of English, including their product names, so ordering can be difficult. They do not list their prices anywhere in house, including their flat screen menus, and as noted, asking leads to tons of confusion. read more

Reserving a star for now until we find our favorites. For now more ice creams than ices with fruit (we happen to prefer the ices since the fruit flavors are stronger that way without the cream getting in the way). So for ices they had tamarindo, lime, and bubblegum I think. However where there are more aqua flavors is in the paleta choices...here about a 50/50 split between cream and aqua based. You'll also find in the cases the chocolate covered popsicles dipped in coconut, nuts, or sprinkles. (I forget the Mexican name for it). Service was great - flavors not yet labeled for the uninitiated, but they were very patient with naming them all, describing them, and offering tastes. It was still grand opening week, so they offered a bonus paleta and a small dish of their yogurt with fruit after our order of a scoop of mango ice cream and a coconut aqua paleta. (The scoop and paleta together was less than $4.50) Going back to keep an eye on the menu for treats we haven't tried before - otherwise we're trying more aqua paletas. read more

Service is not the same anymore. Last time I went in, there were two ladies working the front and one working in the back. However, the two ladies in the front were making the exact order without knowing, they even got upset with each other when they found out. One of them who seemed to be new started scratching her head and proceeded to work without washing her hands. I ended up getting nothing but a small Mangoneada because I didn't want her to prepare my food order after what she had done. When I finished paying her she just moved onto the next customer waiting without washing her hands again. Normally they would wash their hands after dealing with cash. Another thing I noticed is that when you call to place an order they don't pick up the calls. Finally, Lupita always has an attitude. She shouldn't be working in the service if she is going to be working with that attitude. read more

First visit and wow! Staff was sooooo friendly. Insisted we try sample after sample after sample. Practically filled up on samples. Everything was soooo good! We speak no Spanish but most of the staff are fluent in English. Definitely going back to try other flavors, the agua frescas, and may even throw a churro on top next time. read more

This just opened across from my apartment, and I don't think I've ever been more excited for a new business. They have frozen yogurt with fruit, ice cream, ice cream bars, and also some non-dessert food including hot dogs and tortas. The frozen yogurt with fruit was delicious -- they told me that this is the most popular choice at their Cicero locations, and I can see why. Excellent! This place took me back to my vacations in Mexico. A wonderful assortment of ice creams, sorbets, and frozen fruit bars in flavors that would make Baskin Robbins jealous. Not sure what to get? Ask for samples! Last visit I had Gansito, a wonderful blend of vanilla and Gansito snack cakes. Yum-o-rama! Most of the employees don't speak much English and I don't speak Spanish fluently but I happily embarrass myself trying to order because I genuinely like this spot. They have yummy ice cream, homemade juices and popsicles, and I think even hot food, though my gringa self has yet to successfully parse that out. The more I go the less I like it. The good is they have a huge array of flavors for ice cream and popsicles. However, I realized it is so large because they use artificial flavors, and for someone who knows good ice cream (Woodside Farm Creamery), it is noticeable. The texture of the ice cream is also a bit off. I don't know how to describe it but it just doesn't feel or taste like the real thing. I have been there 4 times and each time I have slowly been more and more let down, hoping I had just picked a bad flavor. Really cool flavors you'd never get in a typical American ice cream shop. Lots of tropical flavors- Mamey, Guava, Guyanaba (soursop)- plus others like Ferrero Rocher, strawberries and cream, etc. Ice cream cones, ice cream bars, aguas frescas, yogurt things, and other stuff I saw people order but didn't know what it was. On the downside, basically everything was in Spanish, the menu doesn't really exist, only one worker spoke English (she was great though!), and if you're not into these exotic flavors you might not find what you came for. I just moved into the neighborhood and am so excited about Las Delicias de Michoacan! They have wonderful gelato-style ice cream with lots of flavors. They seem to make a lot of different smoothies and fruit drinks as well, I can't wait to try them all! My husband and I each got a one scoop cone, and it was less than $4.00.
