Las Palapas Alamo Ranch is the closest Las Palapas to me so it's the one I visit most frequently. Gerry is often times our server and he is amazing.when he's not our server, he is often times training other servers. The food is consistently good and I usually order the stuffed avocado with grilled chicken and vegetables, filling the plate and a side of their chicken tortilla soup. We came in hungry after some shopping in the area and were immediately greeted and seated in a booth. Our server was fabulous and checked on us frequently. The unlimited complimentary chips helped curb our appetite and loved the fact that we could add a green hot salsa at no charge, instead of settle for the usual mild. My go to on the on the menu is the small chicken soup/half stuffed avocado combo which I could not find! Super disappointed, but checked with our server and she stated of course we can make that happen! Me- Yassss! Thank you! Don't be fooled by the size of the small size of the chicken soup cuz it's packed with flavor and huge chunks of chicken, bits of rice, and small slivers of green chile. Las Palapas Alamo Ranch. Arrived at about 7:30 pm on 8/19/2025 and we were seated promptly by "Jerry"! This is our "Go To" place to eat because of the good food, good price and Military Discount! TODAY! Not a good experience! Let me say that the food was excellent! The Service, NOT SO! Our waiter finally came to our table to ask about drinks and we advised him that we were also ready to order. I firmly think That threw him off! We ordered a cup of tortilla soup, a cup of "queso" dip, a Senior Enchilada plate and two waters with lemon. Our usual fare! Our waiter went off and didn't come back but I observed him seating other people, putting his hands in prayer and just going around talking to guests and being a social butterfly! Hmm ! Then, I made a bathroom run and on the way back I got his attention as he was at his station drinking some sort of drink. He saw me and five minutes later he comes to our table with chips and dip but No Water. Then he disappears! I Saw him seating more people, bowing with his hands clasped in prayer and bowing at the waist! Hmm! You can't eat chips and salsa without water or a beverage lest you choke on a piece of chip or the great Palapas salsa causes you to cough! I tried making eye Contact with him but to no avail. I finally got his attention and gave him a signal that we needed our water. Time went by, and he comes over with water and our order and places it on the table and takes off! We were minus the Queso Dip! I flagged him down again and brought this to his attention. At which point he blamed me for "Hurrying Him" and forgetting the Dip! Hmm! Really! My wife told him to forget the dip and that the Soup was alright! He goes off in a huff but came back after a few minutes with the Queso. He said he was sorry and was not going to charge us for the Queso! I advised him to please Charge for the Queso and he went off! After we ate I motioned to him to bring our ticket! He did not charge us for the Queso! That was not acceptable to us! Ticket total was $9.83 with tax and Military discount. We normally tip 20-25%! I gave him a $20 bill and told him to keep the change and charge for the Queso! I told him we don't accept freebies! We then departed Las Palapas. Wow what an experience. Further he spoke so fast it was hard to understand what he was saying. Even though my first language was Spanish I couldn't understand half of what he as saying! And am Fluent in both languages. I have other concerns about his behavior but I think I've said enough! Las Palapas is a great place to eat, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! Due to being located in a large shopping center location, parking can sometimes be a bear. In fact, on this trip, we couldn't even park in the restaurant parking lot. However, since we were going to eat a lot of food, maybe a little extra walking will help walk off some of the calories. When we got inside, there was a small line just to get your name on the waiting list. As I was so hungry, I thought this might be an issue. However, the folks are very efficient, and we got a table within about 10-15 minutes. Menus, chips & salsa, and water hit the table nearly as fast as we could sit down. We knew what we wanted and asked if we could just go ahead and place our order. Our piping hot order came out quickly and was exactly as we had ordered. More chips & salsa were requested, and they came quickly. Our waiter never let our drink glasses get low and was very attentive to our needs. Will I return? First time at Las Palapas. Went on a Friday evening at 5:15, restaurant wasn't too busy. We're seated right away and waitress came over to greet us immediately. We ordered some queso to go with our chips and salsa. Chips were a little salty beyond the top layer for some reason. Queso was salty too. We got our food within 15 minutes. And we were so hungry I forgot to take pictures! Over all I would recommend going here if you want to go out to eat without a wait and fast food. I used to live near this Las Palapas, and would drop by to pick up a breakfast taco (on corn, of course!) with bacon, egg and cheese. Their breakfast tacos are delicious, and just writing this makes me want one -- or two. I recently visited with friends for dinner, and had one of their delicious strawberry margaritas. Now, I'm hooked on THAT. But they have a good variety of wild margaritas with all sorts of bottles stuffed in them - Big Red, beer or moscato wine. This is a review for the new location on Tally Rd by Kallison Ranch - which appears that they have now hidden. ...Which is funny because former staff have told us that management was paying them to find people to give good reviews here... This place is ATROCIOUS the few times we tried to go - hoping it would get better. The staff is disinterested or rude in doing their jobs, the folks that are good get in the crosshairs of some female manager who will simply stop scheduling them... so what seems like illegally firing staff who are good at their jobs by simply not letting them work. We have known a few people who have worked there and this has happened to them - and apparently she wold also start rumors and down talk staff. If this staff spoke up in defense of themselves - they would stop being scheduled... The food was ok i guess - but over priced for the quality. VERY disappointing. If management was worth a damn at this location and the good staff was actually allowed to work this might be an ok location. If this is how these places are managed then I will never go to another location again. I won't subsidize the poor treatment of staff who are trying to provide for their family so some maniac can have an ego trip. read more
