We wanted to try a different Mexican place so we decided to give this place a try since the Palapas I always drive by seem packed. I'm not sure if it's this location specifically? Management? The staff? But we were unhappy overall with our experience. The food took forever and the young man messed up in our order several times; not sure if he was new and being trained? If that was the case, someone should have been shadowing and assisting him. Our food arrived cold which was disappointing after all the time we waited. The food looked good but it lacked flavor so much... we had ordered the chicken soup, street tacos, and beef fajita plate. Like I said not sure if it's this location in specific that needs works especially after seeing the other reviews; so maybe don't write off all of the restaurant from this company. Yarley the manager is a stingy lil lady. I been goin to las palapas every day for 2 years, moved over here from a great location and this lady is making me go somewhere else. Yesterday i gave her my military id.... she said she can discount only 1 taco. Today i come she gives me 2 tiny salsas, i asked for 1 more as i always use 3 its tiny......she say no you only get 1 salsa per taco thats the rules. I returned my food and am going somewhere else. 3 dollar tacos and i come every day and cant get an extra salsa. I hope her gm understands that 1 salsa cost stadtly business everyday and a bad review. This lady has no concept of business and barely speaks english...buddy get yourself a real manager. Can't go wrong with this local favorite neighborhood Mexican restaurant! For many years this has been our family's go-to spot for breakfast tacos, Tacos Nortenos, chalupas, and the big winner, the "Super Bowl!" We also love their homemade chips and queso. So. We have a contender for the worst Mexican restaurant chain in San Antonio. Taco Cabana and Taco Palenque have real competition! Here's what I've learned about Las Palapas and the chain of restaurants. They are not created equal except for the menu. This is my third and final visit to this location. The service is awful and it trickles down from there. Here's another sign that this store is suffering some serious problems. It's always empty unlike the one on Blanco or 151. Which by the way are outstanding always. They took my order and then I didn't see another soul for thirty minutes. My food was mediocre at best and I couldn't but notice all the fun taking place in the kitchen. Oh well. Management needs to be in place. Mark this place off my list of go to. read more

Didn't make any sense but either way yelling at an elderly man in front of everyone like that wasn't cool... Also our server was pretty rude. Although they have been expanding quite a bit over the last year and I've been worried about quality and service etc, especially seeing all the bad reviews at this particular location. I am happy to report that apparently they got the message and have made the proper corrections!!! The line was a bit slow but it was really busy on this night. We ordered fajita plates and teas. The food was exactly what I have come to expect!! Tortillas were big and fluffy; there was plenty of chicken, beans and rice which was all a good temperature (hot but not burning). I do not normally leave reviews where I outline areas to improve, but today is that day. I am sorry to say that I did not have a good dining experience. The food that was delivered to our table did not match what was promised on the menu. My daughters breakfast plate arrived with just a pancake, no egg or bacon as promised. My fish tacos were literally a piece of fish with a huge glob of sauce in a tortilla. It should have had cabbage on it, and the one that did have 3 pieces of cabbage, and they were brown and I scrapped them off. My son's chicken nuggets and fries also tasted off, the cooking oil was old, you could see and taste it. My husbands plate was ok, but lacked flavor. I will say the chips and salsa were good. I ordered a cup of the tortilla soup that was way too salty. So salty that I had to throw it away. The flauta plate was delicious but wish they gave me more than 4 tbs of rice. But my main complaint was the fajita plate. It wasn't even enough to make two tacos yet they gave you two tortillas with it. Less than a tbs of guac to go with it. We had fajitas for dinner on a Friday night and they were excellent. Went back a couple of weeks later for dinner and the fajitas were horrible. They had a reheated off-flavor. The server confirmed that the fajitas are cooked earlier in the day and then reheated when served. If you're gonna reheat fajitas figure out how to maintain the original flavor.
