HORRIBLE!!!!!!! I never experienced this kind of service at a restaurant before. It started when we walked in. They didn't smile at us or acknowledge our presence until i literally stand in front of the hostess/waitress. she then pointed us to take a seat anywhere in the restaurant. I wasn't really too worried about that but the fun started when this gentleman came by and gave us a very stale chip and salsa. We asked him about a particular item in the menu but gave my fiance a dirty look and ask her "do you want it or not" i was appalled when he said that. Im a pretty patient person so i just smile and tell yes we will get that. 15 minutes later, he came by and placed the food down on the table and walked away....uuum do i need anything else, nope. Not even a enjoy your meal. We ordered a dozen of fresh oyster(day old flavor), Ceviche Camaron(ok) and a steak taco(stale and cold). During our meal, we ask the waitress for a manager about how great is the service and the not so fresh oyster. Lo and behold, it was the gentleman that took our order. She came back and told us he said" the oyster is fresh, we just got it today" .....ok. So we ask for the bill and came by with the check. Tonight was my 6th visit to Las Palmitas and my last! With each visit came more disappointment. I would say 3 or 4 star food with 2 star service. The first time I visited this place, a friend had suggested it though he never ate there either, but heard good things about the food. We were not familiar with the business hours on a Sunday and arrived just as the bartender / owner (?) was about to lock the doors. She told us they were about to close. So we said we would come back another time but she was nice enough to let in. What great service, right? Our waitress was a young girl (possibly her daughter) and the service and food were excellent. My friend and I were very happy with our visit and talked about making it one of our regular spots. Especially since we were served a few minutes before closing. A few weeks later, my friend and I decided to eat there again. We had the same young girl as our waitress and though this time the place was much busier because of the football game, the food and service were very good. I had dined there a few more times by myself as I thought the food was good. And it seemed the times I ate alone, the service was lacking. I had different waitresses each time, not the same girl as with my first visit. Tonight was horrible. I sat myself as I was told to do on previous visits. The bar area was busy but there were only 2 tables with customers and the were already eating their food. About 5 minutes later, my server tossed a menu in front of me. No greeting, no smile. I said I already knew what I wanted and she seemed a bit annoyed that she had to take out her order pad and take my order. So I gave her my order and she said she would be right back with my drink. Since I was the only new customer that walked in, I expected to have my drink fairly quickly. After about 5 minutes, I'm looking around and I see her talking to customers / friends at the bar. She finally brings my drink (Dr. Pepper) and says I'll be back with your chips and salsa. I playing games on my cell phone, watching the TV waiting for the chips and salsa. Mind you, I haven't eaten since noon and it was now 8 pm, I am starving! While I'm playing a game on my phone, a Mexican family is seated near me. Two adults and two children. They instantly have chips and salsa on their table and a few minutes later they have their drinks and I'm still waiting. I looked around and I can see my waitress talking and joking around with another waitress in the kitchen area. At that time I got up and left. Maybe if you are Mexican, you will get better service but tonight they lost a customer for good. I went around the corner to Napoli's where I was greeted by a friendly waitress with a smile and in the same I was waiting for my chips and salsa at Las Palmitas, I was eating at Napoli's. read more

I had dinner there last night and ordered the birrura (goat). It was delicious. The meat melted in your mouth it was so tender. The seasoning was spicy, but not so much that you lost the flavor of the goat. The handmade corn tortillas were also excellent. Indeed, I'm looking forward to having the leftovers for lunch. So why three stars, not four or even five? Service. The whole restuarant only had one waiter who was overwhelmed with trying tend bar, serve food and bus his tables. He was sweet and I tipped him 20% for effort, but the owners need to staff it with two people in front. read more

As we drove past Las Palmitas on the corner of Sonoma Blvd and Nebraska, my wife and I made a mental note to try this place out. So today, we did. What a disappointment! We ordered way too much food, knowingly, so that we could taste a little bit of everything. Looking at their Web site, the place looked totally legit.... We're both hoping to find Mexican Food that falls in the same ballpark as the most excellent grub we found while living down in SoCal. Sadly, Las Palmitas isn't it. I got a combination plate with the chicken burrito and an enchilada. Those 2 come with side orders of rice and beans. My wife got a combo plate with a chicken enchilada and a taco. For good measure, we also got some guacomole to munch on. The guacomole was pretty good, though it could have used some more salt and possibly some cilantro. The chips, though, were clearly store bought. The rice and beans were ok but the enchilada was pathetic and the burrito was way too dry. My wife said her food was "pretty bad" and left about half of it. Price wise, though, it's a good value for your meal, with the total for 2 large lunches + guacomole costing us about $20 for an obscene amount of food. I'm giving them 3 stars, to be honest, to keep them in business long enough to improve. Until I see their Yelp rating go up, though, I can assure you we shall not be going back. I still don't know how I feel about this place, even after coming here more than 5 times. The food always takes a decent amount of time, it's a little bit pricier than I would normally pay for Mexican food, but the waiters are always super friendly. I've tried the burritos. They're big, super filling, but just meh. Maybe it's because I'm spoiled with some delicious burritos from the mission in SF, but they're sub par. The appetizer plate comes with nachos, flautas, and a quesadilla, all which come with whatever meat you want (chicken, asada, etc). Not bad and a good choice to share. But nothing amazing. The big plate full of seafood (mariscados? I forgot the name) in a ketchup sauce (yes, they use ketchup) is not worth it. I feel like there is so much potential in the dish but it just wasn't executed well. Total waste of good seafood. I should have ordered the ceviche or something of the like instead (which I see so many different people ordering there every time I go). Maybe next time? However, I love the corn tortillas. They're fresh, a little thicker and softer than the average corn tortilla, but it's so obviously homemade that it's awesome. Overall, I've definitely had way better mexican food in my lifetime and it's really hard to even try to give this place 3 stars. Now I am shocked to see a bad review for this place. We are fairly new residents to Vallejo and to be honest with the large latin population in Vallejo we expected to have a huge selection of great Mexican Restaurants to choose from and were disappointed with our choices UNTIL we found this place. Our standards were pretty high, my wife being Mexican and previous to living in Vallejo we had a great number of excellent places to eat. Las Palmitas is authentic Mexican food, you can get Coke in a bottle and if your there on the right night they even have a Mariachi Band that will play for you. Their Burritos are good quality (their chicken meat is white meat) no fatty and gristly bits....and their salsa while not as good as my wife's is pretty damn tasty. So as a mom I don't like to sit and eat in restaurants a lot! My son is a year and a half so he can be hard to manage in situations such as that! However if the food is great and the price is right every now and then I don't mind it! The food he's is pretty good prices reasonable but the service is super slow! Not ideal for a family such as ours! My son will not hang in long enough! I really wanted to just get up and walk out! I mean 30 mins max to wait is fine for great food but an hour? We both ended up ordering the two enchilada and taco meal to go. I had the carnitas taco with shredded chicken and cheese enchiladas. Wow I can't believe how good it was. The homemade tortillas are so delicious. I have lived here and can't believe it took me this long to try this place out. I can't wait to go back and try out more of their dishes. I have been to this restaurant a few times and only during lunch time since it's right next door to my job. During lunch time each time that I have been they only have 1-2 servers only for the whole restaurant, which cause the service to be a little slow to take the order,but once the server takes the order the food is out super quick. The restaurant is small and clean with a variety of items to choose from on the menu. The menu is a typical Hispanic menu. I usually get the quesadilla which is plenty of food, could even be shared among 2 people.Each meal I have had their has been good, no complaints. They have a full bar that I have not tried due to me going on my lunch time but the drinks that I have seen look yummy! The customer service needs some work, the people are not to friendly with no smiles on their faces. The $5 burritos are a steal. It's hard to find a meal that's filling and good for so little anymore. I usually add extra meat, because they seem to fill it with most everything else, however. They can get skimpy on guacamole and sour cream on the burritos, but it's touch and go. My gripes with this place are that they can be very slow, even when it's empty. The older lady who works there (perhaps an owner?) has never been very warm to me, although I used to go in at least once a week to pick up burritos to go. Even after calling ahead, I'd be stuck waiting at the bar for 20-30 minutes. The older male who works here is usually very friendly and engaging. The chips have always been stale and are from a bag. Love this place. Went for the first time today with my best friend and oh my god it was good. I had the huge thing with shrimp, chicken, cilantro and carne asada water falling over the side of this huge cauldron! It was $20 but enough for two people. Been here several times. Not like how it was before. Food is good but not the same. Something has changed in the past couple weeks and I can see it in the staff and taste it in the food. Our server was polite and quick but someone else helped him out and didn't relay our orders to anyone so we had to wait a bit longer. My family and I have been going there for while. We love their food and HUGE drinks. YUM.... We have indeed experienced their bad and sometimes rude servers. Last year, we had server that was playing on his cell phone while writing down our order. Needless to say he got it wrong. No suprise.
