The first time we went there the service was ok everyone was nice but a lag in service the food did take awhile to come out but still really good! Cozy restaurant with great service and a nice variety of selections. The food was very good and fresh. The restaurant is spotless / very clean. The octopus with polenta is a must. The beef carpaccio was also very good. We also had a pizza which was decent but nothing special. The bucatini was with homemade pasta and well made, al dente and creamy but somehow light. The bolognese was also good but you could taste the tomatoes are from a can and could have benefited from being cooked longer with some red wine but still a great selection. There were just so many great selections, if I go again I might just order one of every appetizer because I wanted to try them all. read more

Laura's of Summerville markets itself as an Italian restaurant, named after Italian Nonna "Laura" You can always tell a great Italian restaurant by its veal: the gold standard of any good Italian eatery.. This place fails horribly as an Italian restaurant. Anyone can google Italian recipes on-line or in books (maybe even from Nonna Laura) . . . but it takes an Italian cook to know HOW to cook Italian (or at lest someone who learned at the elbow of a real Italian). The veal marsala (only veal dish on the menu) was about 5 x 3 inches and about 0.5 inch thick: at least they didn't bread and fry it, but with that size it's impossible to cook it correctly. It fell apart like barbecue. The dish came with gnocchi, which were small, gummy, tasteless and completely burnt black on one side. The sauce was tasty (it's marsala wine, how can you mess that up?) The Tiramisu was a travesty! NO coffee flavor; the whipped cream didn't taste fresh and the lady fingers were practically non-existent IN the tiramisu. . . And PLEASE, don't just take the Balocco Savoiavdi Italian lady fingers out of the plastic and add them as decoration. They should also be soaked a little in coffee liquor or espresso! How gauche. The rest of the food fare at Laura's night be acceptable and down right tasty (this patron didn't eat anything else).... But it is NOT an Italian restaurant and don't expect to eat real Italian food there for dinner. read more

My daughter took me to Laura's for my 79th birthday and it's very hard to put into words how extraordinary our experience was. Ray was so personable , knowledgeable and helpful, attentive but not overbearing. He made us feel special. Zac is the mixologist and made a blueberry, lemon martini that wasn't even on the menu (I couldn't make up my mind) and just described what I was feeling. The food was absolutely amazing. The beef carpaccio was to die for , along with the both of our pasta dishes. It ended up with sweet cream gelato with chocolate shavings for my birthday and of course, a candle. A beautiful Italian style eatery with an intimate and charming feel. Really enjoyed coming here for the quality pizza with fresh ingredients. The price isn't cheap but the wonderful service, beautiful ambiance, and delicious food is more than worth it. Today I ordered the pizza carne and the pizza pesto. The mozzarella was so perfect with the pesto and the premium meats on the carne just melt in your mouth. You can also go to their bar and have a fantastic drink prepared. I give this place a solid 4.5 and we'll definitely be back again, especially since the brunch sounded good. We got there an hour before our reservation and had a few happy hour drinks while talking to the bartender. High praise to the bartender he was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and made some tasty drinks. I recommend their Chocolate Espresso Martini and The Laura. I ordered the Pappardelle Fungo with the Chicken Roulade. The pasta dish was fantastic with the right amount of spicy and savory. My one complaint is the chicken was really dry which I wouldn't expect for a higher end restaurant. Thankfully, the pasta had plenty of extra sauce and I just drenched the chicken in the excess. We arrived before our reservation time and was seated immediately (we choose the bar). Service was impeccable & every employee was a team member and acted as so. It was nice to witness this throughout our meal. We started with the Caesar salad and Octopus appetizer. The Caesar was super fresh and had anchovies on the side. My husband who loves anchovies said they were amazing and not too salty. The octopus was served on soft polenta with fresh basil pesto and tomatoes. My husband enjoyed the octopus (it's not for me), the polenta was fantastic & satisfying. The main entrees were Veal Saltimbocca & Lasagna with Bolognese sauce. The veal was wrapped with crispy prosciutto & basil, served on a bed of mushrooms, pillowy soft gnocchi, red peppers and a very yummy Demi glaze. The lasagna was piping hot, fresh pasta and a delicious bolognese. Most of the lasagna made it home for another meal. We finished with cappuccinos, I was happy the had decaf so I could enjoy. My husband had to have dessert so he got the blueberry lemon cheese cake covered in white chocolate to go. He says it was fantastic! I got the lasagna Alla Laura which was very good and I ordered the shrimp for $8 which was not worth it at all since I thought it was in the lasagna. The shrimp are really small and the ones at harris teeter for $5 are much bigger. I also got the polenta which was good but need some salt and pepper. This place e is expensive and it's a place you go once in a while. To the owner the the $8 charge for tiger shrimp that are 21-25 is not worth $8 you be better off either 16-20. I don't understand the additional protein stuff over the lasagna for the add charge is confusing since I am an Ex Chef and have ran 3 multi million dollar restaurants. read more

My tour of cacio e pepe of Charleston brought me to Laura last night. I had heard about their cacio e Pepe so decided to make the long drive from West Ashley to check it out. Going in on a Tuesday night, we had no trouble getting a table without reservations. The restaurant was much larger than I expected with great ambiance. The service was impeccable as well. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. He got the Agnolotti and I of course for the cacio e pepe. While my meal was very good, it didn't remind me of the cacio e pepe from Rome. Maybe it was the noodle choice but I feel it needed a lot more pepper. Overall we had a great time and I would definitely come back and give Laura another try! This was out first time at Laura's on Main Street Summerville SC. Exterior of the building may be misleading looking like a commercial building rather than an excellent Italian restaurant. I can say it will not be our last visit. The restaurant was extremely clean and neat and the staff was more than accommodating when we ask about menu selections. The food and service - well excellent would be an understatement. Everything is made in house which adds to the flavor and texture of the food. I had the spaghetti with meatballs which was a melt in your mouth experience. The other meal was lasagna, also freshly made and very good. The meal was far above out expectations, only being topped by the desert, a slice of uniquely made cheese cake. The meal and desert pricing was on par with the quality and service you would expect. FINALLY got to try Laura! I keep seeing a lot of fuss over this place on the Lowcountry Eat Out page on FB and seeing my friends and acquaintances going here, I needed to finally try it! She should experience these places too though, so we made a night of it . She ended up enjoying everything she ate and loved her Margarita pizza. I had the Laura cocktail and it was very reminiscent of limoncello we had when we visited Italy. I enjoyed it very much. We started with the focaccia bread and burrata appetizer. Both delicious! I got the Spaghetti Vongole which is basically a seafood pasta. I guess my only tiny suggestion is more salt. Other than that it was tasty. My husband got the pork shank and a side of potatoes. The pork shank was INCREDIBLY tender and tasty! It basically melts in your mouth. There was no issue on filling him up either since it was huge. The potatoes were so good too. I also tried a bite of my daughter's pizza and it was delicious! For dessert we got tiramisu and the Neapolitan semifreddo. My daughter loved the taste and experience of the Semifreddo dessert! The hubs and I enjoyed the tiramisu very much (I also snuck some bites of my daughter's dessert and enjoyed that too). My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed the experience from beginning to end. The service was excellent. Wait staff was on point. To start I needed a a pick me up so I ordered a cappuccino. Only slightly negative thing was I would have liked a bit more espresso. They did make it with heavy cream the way it was requested though. I think we shared the Red Oak Arugula salad, wife wanted that, I enjoyed it. The vinaigrette was tangy & zesty. Would have again but not until I try the ceasar. I dont know if it was the picture I found, or I was just willing to take a risk that night because I don't usually like lemon flavor in my entrée. But I'm so happy I risked it. I got the Agnolotti. I could definitely taste the lemon. However, it wasn't overpowering close but not over the line. The contrast in texture and flavor was just excellent, added some shrimp for protien. From the smoothe texture of the I assume ricotta cheese inside (menu didn't say) the pasta, to the lemon crumble & pistachio on top. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of letting my wife try it and she kept coming back for more! Dessert, I'm a bit of a cannoli connoisseur. These were honestly some of the best cannoli's I've ever tasted. The shell was fresh and flakey, which is a must. The filling was exceptionally smooth. It was our first time eating here and we LOVED it! The only thing I wish we did different was sitting inside. Sweating while eating is not a great idea lol. However, we did manage to get that table without a reservation or wait. So if you want to be inside then you'll definitely need to make a reservation beforehand since the inside was very busy. Service was fantastic. We always had someone filling our water up, cleaning the table, and our waiter Michael was very knowledgeable. Now for the food! The focaccia bread with anchovy dip was yummy! Bread was soft and fresh I got the Agnolotti pasta and it had a nice lemon taste to it. Not the kind that after the 4th bite you are over it, but it makes the dish taste "lighter". My husband got the Rigatoni, which was also delicious. It was creamy and a bit larger portion size than mine. Espresso Gelato had the right amount of espresso flavoring and was creamy. I've had other espresso Gelato and ice cream where it's overwhelmingly espresso or so light with hardly any other flavor. Everything was cooked well and everything was flavorful! Next time we go we will do the recommended sharing so we can go through the whole 4 courses, instead of eating our own pasta plates. We will for sure be back! read more

Started with Focaccia bread, Artichokes and Pizza Margarita, onto Naked Fish of the day (halibut) side of lasagna and side of Gnocchi. FYI the Gnocchi is pasta, not potatoes, still fabulous. Fantastic food and service. The staff was very friendly as soon as we arrived. Had multiple members stop by our table to ensure we have been helped and ensure we are being served. Let's start with the appetizers, the octopus and burrata was great. I love octopus but my wife normally doesn't eat any or very little. She ate half of the octopus. When chef Nico stopped by the table to how is everything, she started with telling him about the octopus. The pappardelle fungo and gnocchi was perfect. The menu has so many items to try. We had to take the tiramisu to go because we were so full. We ate it a couple hours later and it was great. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The tiramisu was so light and fluffy. We celebrated a family birthday today at lunch. The brunch menu is available on Sunday's. While there are several breakfast items on the menu, we didn't try any today. We did try the burrata and focaccia apps. LOVED the burrata. The tomatoes were so fresh. The focaccia was unusual, with a texture and height more like a traditional dinner roll. The top was crunchy in what I expected from focaccia. Mushroom paparadelle was tasty but pasta was slightly over cooked. Bloody Mary was not remarkable in flavor or garnish. Desserts were delicious! We had tiramisu, strawberry cheesecake, cannoli, and lemon and berry gelato. Service at our table was terrific. Prompt, friendly, professional, and offered helpful feedback when we were torn between two great entree options. Host at the door when we arrived was a little awkward. One member of our party was using a walker and arrived about 15 minutes before the reservation time. There was no seating at the door and the young hostess didn't offer to bring a chair over or suggest another waiting location with any seating. It could be a learning opportunity for a young person new to the workplace and accommodations for a person with disabilities. read more

We came to celebrate a friends birthday and we were excited to try them out. Menu items we tried were the Agnolotti, Lasagna, and the Gnocchi. Now let me tell you that Agnolotti was so good, but very different. It isn't like any other pasta dish I've had. The lasagna was good and so was the Gnocchi. We shared the tiramisu and it was perfect and light. There was also a flaming dessert of some sort that they light table side that I will try on the next visit. The drinks were well made but at the end of the day I just want margaritas wherever I go. The service was excellent. Hubby took me out on a date night. We had the bolognese pizza and focaccia bread for appetizer. The focaccia bread was served warm. It is so soft and spread tasted so good (very strong lemon flavor). The pizza I think is my husband and I's favorite. Crust is so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauce is perfect, not too much and not salty either. Pizza takes the cake tonight. I had pork chop for main. It was okay. We were asked if everything was good, well my husband said that I think I tasted wasabi on it. I don't mean to offend anyone with my tastebuds lol. It turned out to be calabrian chili. I just want to let you guys know, it wasn't spicy but it got a hint of spice which is a little on the cool side. It didn't say that on the menu, it just says "with herbs". It's fine though, big serving and I like spice anyway. I was just caught off guard. Lasagna was good (my husband liked it.). It was compact and the meat used is different. Bolognese style. It came out fresh and hot. It was perfect. Tiramisu was also our favorite. It is so good.
