    Kalua Pig & Squid Luau
    Lance S.

Food was delicious..true Hawaiian comfort food. The problem is I ate way too much and now I feel like taking a nap. The squid luau wasn't too sweet and the kalua pig was just right. Teri chicken was moist and desserts were the perfect ending to a great meal. Everyone was also very nice and accommodating.

The long rice was perfect. Kalua pig and cabbage was a bit bland-- not enough salt. Also, portions were not what I expected compared to price-- plate was $23 plus change and not counting tip. After the lady at the windy broke away from her personal conversation and I placed my order, it was quick to get my food.

After pickleball stopped to pickup household repair item at Home depot Kapolei, husband's hunger was triggered passing by Laverne's Food truck in the parking lot in Kapolei. After reviewing menu decided to share a combination plate of Kailua Pork and Cabbage and Pork Lau Lau which came with two scoops rice and a small Mac salad. The Kailua Pork and Cabbage was ono although could have received a little more pork in the mix. The Lau Lau was good and hot and delivered. Rice was on the cool side, would be better warm. They have a little outdoor space setup with tables and chairs, nicer than sitting our car. Service was fast, food came out quickly. All in all it is a good place to stop for a quick Hawaiian food fix while doing your shopping at Home Depot.

Today was wanting squid luau and smoke meat, and the squid luau is always on point! But not the smoke meat, this is probably the worst smoke meat I've had. It looks tasty but it was hard and dried out like it's been sitting for awhile and wasn't that tasty at all! Now I know! Stick to what I know is ono!

Just got back from Europe and nothing beats the taste of home like Laverne's food truck at Waikele Outlet, Waipio! We went for the Beef Stew and Pork Lau Lau combo. The person who took our order was friendly, and we got our food really fast. The beef stew was delicious and the meat was super tender. Maybe just a pinch more salt would make it perfect. The pork lau lau was tasty too, though it was a bit dry. Overall, Laverne's hit the spot for some good local grindz.

Side squid luau & pastele stew - $25 for both. Crazy expensive for less than 1lb of each.

I love Laverne's and have been coming here for years! We catered from them + would always pickup from their store in Waipahu when they had it. Brah, I came to the Waikele truck stop today for a side of Squid Luau and I saw they had pastele stew too so I got a side of that as well. My total was $25 for less than a pound of each! Their side containers shrunk and their prices are ridiculously high. I love this place but I probably won't come back because they going break my bank.

Quick, tasty and reasonably priced. A very large menu to choose from. Great for catering as well!

Laverne's is my go-to for squid luau.Their squid luau has the perfect balance of sweet and coconutty + savory. If you like coconut forward curries, you'd love this! Comes in both regular and mini options as well as ala carte! Service was great and we didn't have to wait long! Recommend it for a quick bite after shopping at the outlet!

We were in the Waikele area doing home improvement shopping for the hale and we were pretty hungry. We decided to check out the food trucks at the other side of Lowe's and past the Petco. I haven't had Laverne's Hawaiian food in a long time. I've always purchased the Chocolate crunch and that never disappoints (I got it!) I love Kalua pig, squid luau and I wanted to try their chicken long rice (it reminds me on my parents food as they have both passed). I got the number 1 plate which came with haupia and Lomi salmon and paid cash (I found the price dropped a bit :) The gentleman at the ordering window greeted me with a smile and service was quick! Now the food! Omg so freaking yummy! The Kalua pig was not oily and very tasty and they gave a lot! The squid luau was a mouthful of squid in every bite and the chicken long rice brought me to tears! This area has a wide area of food trucks from Filipino, Thai, Shave ice, Taste Tea, the ever famous Leonard's malasada and Laverne's is perfectly located at the end closest to Petco. Outside and open and parking is all around for your convenience.

There always here in the Waikele parking lot.

This is what I come for. Creamy caper sauce on mahi-mahi. Yummy My friend got the same the. She said she got the same thing last time. Still good!

    Kanaka Plate
    Jennifer H.

This review is loooooong overdue; I truly thought I had already written one being this is hands down my most favorite lunch plate! The kanaka plate has 2 scoops of rice, chicken glass noodles/long rice, lomi salmon, squid luau, kalua pork, and lau lau. Yeah, it's a very full plate! I'm not a big eater... I usually only finish a half burger or sandwich when I order one. So when I get the kanaka plate, it usually lasts me at least 4 enjoyable meals. Everything is absolutely amazing but here's in my personal order of preference. Squid luau ~ ummm food crack?? That may be the best way to describe it. I could seriously have this everyday and be so utterly content. Slightly sweet, slightly salty, creamy and rich. My only complaint is there isn't enough, but that's on me lol. I may have an unhealthy obsession with this dish. Lomi salmon ~ the balance of their lomi salmon is perfect. Generous portion of salmon to a zesty combo of diced fixings. Another dish I'd be content with having everyday. Lau lau and kalua pork ~ these are at a healthy tie with each other. I love enjoying them at the same time. Just doesn't feel complete having one without the other. Deliciously smoky and juicy; just hints of fat so it's not heart attack crazy. My least favorite is the long rice. Not because theirs isn't good. Don't get me wrong, it's gingery, sometimes heavier on the salt, but I still tear it up and empty my entire plate. But growing up on long rice, I guess it was one of those things I didn't reacquire a favor to (yet?). I continue to surprise myself by accepting flavors I thought I had dismissed after getting tired of it growing up. In any case, aside from the occasional heavy salty noodles, I can't get enough of this plate. It's held the spot as my favorite lunch plate for over a decade... others have tried, but this still comes out on top for me! Oh, and while I do enjoy the smoked meat, it's usually hubs' order. And when our daughter visits, she always picks up a plate to take back with her. They're the big meat eaters in our family. It's smoky tasty and generously portioned. This totally makes for a perfect dinner stop for our fam.

Squid luau & pork adobo mix plate
    April N.

I tasted the squid luau and couldn't stop. I ordered a mixed plate with pork adobo and squid luau. The squid luau was perfect. The squid was present, the coconut milk had just the right amount, and it was just sweet enough. The pork adobo was tender, but you have to like the flavor of peppercorns. One of my friends took the beef stew and roast pork plate. The roast pork was a little tough, and the beef stew was average. I definitely would come back here if I'm in the area and wanting ono local food.

Located in the lower parking lot of Waikele outlets near old navy, there's tons of parking stalls for the many food trucks in the area. I came here specifically because my coworker highly recommended the MAHI WITH GARLIC BUTTER CAPER SAUCE. Popped in & there was no line, the reason for low stars is the male at the window looked so upset like I was an inconvenience. The plates come in both regular or mini size and with toss or Mac salad. Just be aware you need to specify while ordering because he won't ask you what you would like and just assign one. It was my first time so I didn't know I had a choice so he just assigned Mac salad (which was fine). The mahi itself was cooked well, crispy outside which held the sauce well. It was on the sweeter side but still very tasty. I wouldn't mind having this meal again but maybe through door dash in the future.

I've been to Hawaii many times but I usually stay in tourist areas, so I don't get many chances to venture out and try local food places. But this place absolutely hit the spot. Service was standard and we were seated within a few minutes. Considering it was lunchtime and it looked like a lot of locals were there, the food came out pretty quickly. The ambiance was clean and reminded me of a modern cafeteria. We had poke, short ribs with brown rice and mac salad, mochiko chicken with white rice and mac salad, and the Hawaiian loco moco. This had enough sauce for each and every bite. The pancake was perfectly cooked, soft and fluffy; enough to feed two. The spam and egg platter was a great compliment to the delicious pancakes. I really liked their fried rice. The rice was nice and moist and loaded with pieces of meat. The staff was very attentive and pleasant. Dining area is large enough to accommodate from an intimate to large parties. Free parking and conveniently located next to th rail station.

The poi was like 2-day old, thick, dry, and sour. The haupia was little funky, solid, and grey. The white rice was brown and old. The loco moco gravy was super dark and chunky, the meat paddy tough. I've been here a total of 3 times, first time we tried the Hawaiian food, got take out, and most recently dined in and luckily we got some entertainment. We enjoyed the Hawaiian food, but I have to give credit to the other local foods we tried so far I got the pork chops with mushroom, garlic shrimp, crack chicken and smoked meat fried rice. Everything was tasty, really enjoyed it but just the crack chicken may be on the sweeter side, I would request for light sauce. The macaroni salad was fire! Rice cooked perfectly! There are many goodies in the fridge, pistachio cake, Ho'i'o salad, dried Aku, Opelu, Smoke Marlin, pickle onions, smoke tako, dried shrimp, drinks, and even Dubai chocolates! There are T-shirts, snacks, candies, chips for sale in front of cashier and towards the back of store. I love the color green and had to get a slice of pistachio cake, ($5.) what a treat, its been awhile since I last had pistachio cake. It was a huge slice, shared w/the hubby. I used to go here all the time to get my filipino food fix. Unfortunately they closed the Kalihi…read morerestaurant and now have to make the drive out to Waipahu. If you have never been here I highly recommend you trying their filipino food. Portion size is good and worth the money but the main reason you're buying their food is cause it's winnahs. I did take out a few of their menu items. Their special for July is lechon Kawali, pancit, pork gisantes and pork adobo fried rice. It's good to get this or mixed plate with 3 choices. It allows to try more of their menu selections. While one is good 3 or 4 is much better especially if coming here for the very first time. You won't be disappointed. I called in to place my order and it would be twenty minutes which is fine cause that's how long it took me to get there. The food was hot and ready to go. I made sure my ac was off so I can enjoy a nice hot lunch. The place was crowded even at 1pm. People know good food when they eat it. Lots of parking. The lechon Kawali was good. It's nice and meaty with some nice soft fat pieces. Oh so good. Yeah if you are worried about cholesterol then this might not be for you. If not you gonna enjoy it. The pancit is good. The pork gisantes which is more commonly known as pork and peas is really good. It's like stew and you wanna mix your rice with it. If you like eggs over easy then you should have that over your gisantes. It's sooooooo good. Kinda like Loco moco except it's stew. When that yolk breaks and blends in with the gisantes hoo boy. Just really good stuff there. Then the main attraction is their pork adobo fried rice omelet. I believe they were the original restaurant that brought it out. I might be wrong but they make it just right. Every bite is so good especially when you bite into one that has fat in it. Yummy. Yeah not a good choice if you're staying away from cholesterol but if not you're gonna enjoy it. The pork adobo fried rice is not dry like some other places I've tried. Ok I admit i love filipino food. I had to get dinuguan. Chocolate meat. Another winner with rice and really good with over eggs on top of it. Nice tender succulent pieces of pork. Oh my God, it's so good. I also got Shanghai lumpia. This is da bomb. You gotta eat this one hot and fresh. If not it gets stale and soggy so I ate this first. You dip it into vinegar. I like a little heat so I add Tabasco to it. Great with beer. It's so good. I'm missing it already. Then the final dish i got was their sari sari. It's soup with mixed veggies, baby shrimp and lechon. The soup is delicious and comforting. It's great on a cold night or maybe when you're feeling sick. Better than your chicken noodle soup for sure. It's also great remedy for that hangover you got last night. Lol All in all you just gotta try it. Let me know what you got and how good it tasted. Enjoy and thank me later.
