Fries were good this time, but I would go without the pizza in the future. On their final opening night I arrived too early; forgetting that dinner didn't start for an hour so I had the fries (again) while waiting for dinner. Thankfully, the order was put in a little earlier and I was able to enjoy the Penne alla Vodka. I was on the fence about the 20-Layer Cake but I ended up caving in, getting it to go for later. Unlike the first time I got this, they now had a perfect, custom box for the slice to fit whereas before they had to cut the cake in half to fit it into the box they had at the time. I know the New York location has delivery/to-go only, but there is still the Las Vegas one. Sad to see this place close down, as the location seems to be a curse for so many places (Hamburger Hamlet, Rivabella, Roku, now Lavo...). read more

During my foodie relatives' Thanksgiving week visit to Honolulu, we were discussing making restaurant reservations for our upcoming Christmas/New Year visit to Los Angeles. However, after we raved about our multiple dining experiences at LAVO Las Vegas, we were surprised to learn that none of our relatives had ever dined at the restaurant's Los Angeles location. So, when the opportunity arose, I made an after-Christmas dinner reservation through OpenTable and excitedly waited. We knew exactly where LAVO Los Angeles was located, as we had frequently driven past the Sunset Medical Tower on Sunset Boulevard and had eaten at the same restaurant space before it changed hands several times over the past decade or so. They offer valet service, which only accepts credit card payments, and because of the restaurant's location, you might as well use the service, because you'd be hard-pressed to find street parking. Our group of six arrived at the restaurant about 30 minutes before our reservation and were greeted by a friendly hostess who asked whether we were ready to be seated or preferred to wait in the bar. We chose to be seated, and she escorted us into the quiet, warm, yet festively decorated dining room. The busser approached us, took our water service request, and informed us about who our server would be. Our server, Addison, came to our table while the busser refilled our water glasses and offered assorted citrus slices to flavor them. After my brother-in-law showed Addison the magnum of wine he brought and asked if the sommelier could uncork the bottle, since it was not only a 2006 vintage but also had a long, possibly fragile cork, even though they kept the bottle in their personal wine storage. Unfortunately, they didn't have a sommelier on duty, and Addison informed us of the restaurant's impending end-of-year closure and confidently said she could uncork it with her trusty corkscrew. However, my brother-in-law decided to give it the "ol' college try" and successfully uncorked the bottle. FOOD: -Fritto Misto: a platter of lightly battered and fried zucchini, shrimp, calamari, and vinegary peppers with marinara was delivered to our table and was quickly shared and devoured. Everyone felt the fritto misto was light, delicious, and perfectly cooked. $28 -The Meatball: We've often seen this appetizer ordered at the Las Vegas site, but we never ordered it because we felt it was too much food to share between us. However, now that we had our family surrounding us, we ordered it. The 16-oz meatball is made with fresh-ground imperial Wagyu, Italian sausage, and veal. It is served with whipped ricotta and marinara. We shared the tender, toothsome meatball among us and sopped up the sauce with garlic bread. $34 -Semolina Sesame Garlic Bread: Addison highly recommended this garlic bread to pair with The Meatball and sipping on our Cabernet blend wine. The lightly grilled-toasted loaf was served with three dipping sauces (marinara, basil pesto, & Gorgonzola dolce). $18 -Zitoni Genovese: braised short rib, sweet onions, pecorino Romano. I received a generous portion of Neapolitan or Sicilian zitoni pasta (larger ziti tubes) and an intensely flavorful, tomato-wine-based, fall-apart tender, slow-braised short ribs ragù. This comfort-food pasta dish was so rich and filling that I could barely eat half the portion and ended up bringing home leftovers. $33 -Faroe Island Salmon Oreganato: My husband cut into the salmon filet, which had a light crisp coating of breadcrumbs and revealed the fillet's tender medium-rare doneness. The rich, buttery-tasting salmon filet sat atop a melange of sautéed vegetables and was dressed with a lemon, white wine, and garlic butter sauce. My husband jokingly said he could feel his heart health improving with each bite. $39 The rest of my family ordered their own entrees, and when we were nearly finished with our meals, we decided to share a dessert. We ordered the luscious 20 Layer Chocolate Cake ($29), and each of us commented on the "decadence" of chocolate, peanut butter, and mascarpone. Lavo's mimosa brunch is where it's at! Honestly, I almost don't want to share this because I don't want it to get so popular that I can't snag a reservation on a Sunday lol. We celebrated my mom's birthday here with family and friends (party of 8), and it was the perfect spot. This endless brunch is meant to be experienced with a group so you can try a little bit of everything. They bring out generous, family-style portions, all fresh and made to order. We had the chicken and waffles, truffle pizza, oysters, Caesar salad, chicken Parmesan, pancakes--just to name a few--and every single dish was delicious. And for the price? It's absolutely worth it: $65 per person plus $25 for bottomless mimosas. The value is chef's kiss. Our waitstaff was amazing--super attentive, kept the food flowing, and made sure our glasses were never empty. The whole vibe is immaculate. There's a DJ playing the best 90s and 2000s R&B, and a few of us couldn't resist getting up to dance at our table. The aesthetics, the food, the drinks, the service--5 stars all around. He was so nice and pleasant. The drinks he made were so delicious! I recommend the bubbles and berry or the lychee martin... you can't go wrong with either. Went here for a weeknight happy hour and we loved it and are so sad to see it should be closed as of now. The happy hour prices for the quality of food were killer. We loved the calamari and pizzette, and the truffle fries were good as well. I really enjoyed the martini flight, though I felt it could've been a little less sweet. You have the bottomless drink options for $20 classic mimosa (pick 3 juices), $35 Bloody Mary (choose your hard liquor), or $60 champagne. Tried their DineLA brunch on a Sunday and loved our experience so much that we came back for dinner THREE days later with more friends. We decided to opt for the DineLA dinner menu. What a treat indeed. Our night kicked off with a round of bubbly for the table, compliments of their manager. As there was 4 of us we were able to get 4 different appetizers and mains. One friend's review was "they by far have the best appetizers of all the places in LA." What an endorsement. We decided to repeat the prosciutto and cheese along with the fritto misto as those were our favorites from our previous visit. Of the mains, my favorite was the branzino. I kept using the wrong adjectives to describe it, but I settled on meaty. That piece was thicc and the stuff that came on the side of it perfectly complimented the dish. We loved the dessert presentation. That tiramisu was honestly the best dessert I've ever had in my life. That's on bible! Our server Bailey was great, but I have to give all the credit to Solomon who took such great care of us. We saw more of him than Bailey and we weren't mad about it. He was so entertaining and always made sure our glasses were always filled with water. Not once did we have to ask for a refill. We could've poured the water ourselves as the bottle was on the table, but he was always walking the perimeter and would do it himself. I love this place so much it's about to be my new go to spot. The 2 hour AYCE brunch is pretty well staffed as it picked up pace as the afternoon progressed. Our server was extra careful about my allergy which was extremely appreciated. We opted to start with oysters (a few of mine had bits of shell). Favorites among the group were the Caesar salad, mushroom pizza, Chicken parm (this is extra) and carbonara. We ordered the tiramisu at the end of the night. It took a while to come and the event was pretty much about to start so we made the executive decision to just cancel and grab the check. We got to the restaurant 20 minutes early and had some happy hour cocktails. They have happy hour in a separate bar area and it's all day on Mondays. The hostess promptly came over at 6 PM for our reservation but let us sit in the bar for a little bit longer to have another drink. Our table in the main dining room was amazing very comfortable and very spacious. The restaurant is gorgeous. I love the atrium and it gives that comfy outdoor feeling without being in the summer heat. Our waitress Olivia was so kind and so sweet and very helpful with the menu. Everyone in our party opted for DineLA menu and we opted to order a shared meatball, which was plenty big to share. Everything was so delicious. Everything was a 10 out of 10. As for the restaurant, it's just off sunset and slightly hidden. I really like the location. We don't often venture to the side of LA so it was nice to experience something so delicious. They just had this weird energy immediately after we walked in. Arent hosts supposed to be nice? Not his fault and I get it, I really do, it was a Friday night. But the restaurant couldnt have given their staff a safe and reasonable walking aisle? The location is odd because it's connected to a medical building. The ambience inside is very nice though. It's stylish, trendy, and feels elevated. It was very dim, which created a very lovely atmosphere. Unfortunately, you will also get a lot of rowdy unrefined LA patrons who could affect your dining experience. Apparently, someone was smoking pot inside, and the strong smell circulated throughout the restaurant. People sitting at the tables next to me were looking around trying to figure out who was the culprit. Food wise, every dish was very good. We ordered meatballs, spicy calabrese pizza, and grilled octopus for starters and every dish had great flavors. Brick oven pizza was thin and delicious, grilled octopus was tender and charred well. For entrees, we had branzino and salmon and the fishes were soft and flavorful. Cocktail drinks were refreshing. Dessert was my least favorite. While the tiramisu dessert was tasty, it was mostly creamy liquid and barely any cake filling. It felt like eating melted mousse. As for service, the entire staff was very nice. Our waiter was professional and very cordial, and he managed to be attentive while serving multiple tables. On a side note, this establishment is an upscale Italian restaurant - which also means expensive - so be prepared to shell out some money. The simplest way to tell if a restaurant will be good is to order a simple steak and see how it turns out. The three of us ordered the filet mignon. One ordered it medium rare, one medium, and one medium well done. All three steaks came out burnt looking... now I know that ordering a steak medium well done can be controversial, however, all three steaks were ordered to be cooked at different levels and they all came out burned. This is pretty unacceptable considering it is one of the easiest dishes to prepare. And for the price point, you would think they could do better. Other than that, the atmosphere is very nice, lots of ambient lighting, and the waiter was very kind to us. The cocktails were good and the appetizers were also very good. Vibrant, fun, celebration worthy restaurant! LAVO gets very loud inside, and on certain nights of the week there is a DJ. Delicious food not overdone; simple but well-balanced dishes. My absolute favorites are the tagliatelle al limone, grilled octopus, and grilled branzino. LAVO is part of the TAO restaurant group so the atmosphere can feel very party-like. The playlist is always great, mixed with old-school and new-school songs. I've come for dinner and brunch once and had equal experiences. My friend and I were dining here for dinner and unfortunately were asked to give up our table at the end of the reservation window. The manager however, gave us complimentary champagne and moved us over to the bar area. We ordered the 20 layer chocolate cake and the peanut butter mascarpone in it was so prominent that we didn't enjoy the chocolate cake. Definitely recommend coming for happy hour - $25 gets you a wood-fired pizza and a bottle of wine, which is a great deal. The bar area is beautiful, with a classic rounded bar and tall tables that make it a nice spot for lunch or an early dinner. We were pretty hungry, so we started with dinner in the main dining area, then moved to the bar to check out happy hour. We probably didn't need both in one day lol, we were full - but everything was good, so no regrets!! The dining space is open and modern with a warm, earthy feel and upscale vibe. Service was excellent - the staff were friendly and attentive, even on a busy night. We ordered the garlic bread (huge portion, definitely good for sharing), the calamari (solid), and I had the ravioli. It was decent, but I preferred my partner's vodka pasta - it had more flavor. The tortolini is on the lighter side, which is great if you're not too hungry. Drinks were great. I had a martini I really liked - they were out of their most popular one, so I'll have to come back to try it. I'll definitely be returning many more times for the happy hour! read more

Returned to Lavo for the Endless Brunch and oh my goodness, it was AMAZING! All the food is delicious and fresh, my favorites were the Caesar salad and meatball. They have a dj on the weekends and the vibes are immaculate. Our server was awesome, very attentive to our party of 9. I highly recommend this experience! read more

Celebrated my birthday dinner here on a weekend with a group of friends. Ambiance is super cute. Very lively and love the interior design. Everyone loved the garlic bread. I ordered the lobster pasta and it was so good!! Generous portions too! Service was friendly and prompt. Incredible food, staff and ambiance! LAVO is an amazing upscale Italian experience. Went here for my aunt's birthday and we were all treated like high end clientele. The staff was beyond attentive for every course. Never an empty glass nor ever a request left unattended to. The lighting, layout, plating, cutlery, art, and overall acconciare of the restaurant made you feel excited and happy you were dining there. The real review needs to be the food. From the seared prime rib, the charred octopus, the branzino fillets, the pizza, were all top tier offerings. Everything was served elegantly and and perfectly prepared.
