I ordered directly through their website because I didn't want Seamless to get a cut of their profit. But they messed up the delivery. When the setting clearly indicated they should meet me at the door, they left the pizza in the lobby of the building without letting me know and it was stone cold when I picked it up after I called them to find out what happened to the pizza. That wasn't the first time they messed up the delivery when I ordered directly. Another time they were 30 minutes late and when I called to ask what happened, they said the delivery guy hadn't picked up the pizza. Love this place! The pizza and salad special is my go to. The pizza is so good I easily put away the 4 generous slices. The sauce has a nice touch of sweetness without being cloyingly so and I love the crust and when it burns a bit on the edges. Toppings are generous. My go to salad is the Ceasar. Those crutons are amazing. These are for sure house made and not out of a box as they have a perfect garlicky crunchiness to them. Pleasantly surprised by my takeout experience at Layla Jones. Ever since I moved to the area, I was highly skeptical of this neighborhood pizza joint. I couldn't answer basic (***) questions like: What is this?! Is it Detroit style? Grandma? Sicilian? Is this even going to taste good?! Being the risk averse person that I am, I decided to ditch the boring quarantine lunch of (salad / tuna sandwich / Trader Joe cauliflower rice - so hot right now, though) for a Pesto Grilled Chicken Press Sandwich from our purveyor of puzzling pizza pie. The sandwich featured thinly sliced pieces of grilled chicken breast, fresh mozzarella, and roasted red peppers on a delicious homemade panini bread. It was fantastic! Fresh ingredients, bold flavors (loved the pesto), and a solid bread-to-fillings (?) ratio! Sometimes you just need a brick sized amount of hot pasta, and this place does the job. I got the rigatoni with tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil, really hit the spot for when you just need a simple, but fresh and flavorful pasta dish. I went here a few months back, so I'm not able to give a more detailed description, but it was tasty. I was also eating leftovers for days and it reheated well in the microwave. $18 isn't the cheapest for a pasta dish, but for Brooklyn Heights it's on the more affordable side, plus a lot of the fancier Italian places in the neighborhood give really small portions, so you're getting a good deal. This place was really empty when I went in to pick up my food which is surprising, so definitely check them out! This has always been my go-to pizza place in the neighborhood for takeout and delivery. The pizza here is always delicious. My favorites are the Sweet Jane and margherita pies (I'm a simple guy). The pizza here is a bit hard to describe - it's not really what you think of an NYC slice, nor is it really Detroit, nor is it a classic grandma. The dough is thicker than normal, fluffy, but not very oily, slightly sweet. Sauce is perfect, a mixture of tart and sweet, with sweet slightly more sweet than tart. It's kind of in a category of its own, but at the end of the day it is damn good and my ultimate comfort pizza place. Also whenever I order delivery, it always comes super fast and usually ahead of schedule. If you step inside, you can order pizza by the slice. There's some tables in the front for sit-down dining. They also have a "secret" backyard that is huge, and a perfect place to have a meal on a nice weather day. It's also not heavily advertised, but this place is BYOB! Dreaming about having a pie in the backyard of Layla Jones this summer is keeping me going through this time. read more

My favorite thin square slice in the city. My go to is their vegetable slice with mushrooms, onions, and fresh tomato chunks. Fresh, firm vegetables on a crispy crust. Their plain slice is also great. I like my pizza saucy and their slices don't look like they have much, but when you bite into it you'll find a perfect balance between cheese and sauce. Service is always sweet, my only complaint is their pepperoni slice is drenched in grease, to the point where the crust becomes limp and soggy. read more

If Layla Jones has proven anything to me from the many times I've ordered from here, it is that it is super hit-or-miss and inconsistent. I have had extremely satisfying, hot, gooey pizza here that was unmistakably freshly baked, just as often I have gotten dried up, stale, and hardened pies from the night before. Time of your order doesn't seem to matter much as far as quality goes. Just as I thought that perhaps the key is to avoid ordering too early in the day, I had two back to back below average evening experiences. I love my neighborhood, and I try to support local businesses as much as I can, but after giving Layla Jones EIGHT chances, I will now unfortunately have to take my business elsewhere. I can't write too much about a pizza place I've been to a handful of times despite living in the neighborhood. I can't decide if it's self service or waiter service b/c it seems to display both. On all occasions, I ordered my pizza at the small counter in the back that showcased different styles of pizza. But once seated, a super friendly worker will serve your order. It's small with a few tables and they might have patio seating but I'm not sure. I've eaten the mushroom, the cheese, and veggie slice on different visits. The crust is airy, tasty and thin enough. If I didn't forget about it at times while on Court Street, I'd visit more often because I must say, I like it and it's worth a try. read more

For about six months now, I've been eyeing Layla Jones but have yet to commit, until last night. Anyone in the Cobble Hill area likely knows this place smells FANTASTIC as you're passing by and it takes all your strength to keep walking past as you drag your feet to workout in the miserable 30 degree windy weather (No? Just me?). So, yesterday I walked in before any crowds had arrived (I usually see a solid few families in here on weeknights -- it's a small place, maybe six-eight tables total) and found this place to be extremely cozy. Warm, dim lights, holiday decor, and that lovely pizza smell. I had a whole personal Sweet Lou's Lasagna pizza to myself (except that my boyfriend had to eat a solid 1/3 of it so we could finish) -- it has a meat sauce, tomato sauce, ricotta cheese and mozzarella. The crust was my favorite part. Kind of thick, a great texture, slightly crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. I also really liked the sauce. The personal pizza is actually decently large, at four pretty big square slices. Only a few people came in while we were there and everyone was ordering to-go (between 6-7pm), but they consistently had a LOT of orders they were leaving to deliver. Their menu states free delivery, so that's hard to beat. Their menu also says they have a backyard area which I would have NEVER known from the front. I can't wait for warm weather so I can try it out! I only wish they had beer so I could have some pizza and beer on a warm summer day outside. Here's to hoping! I love the flavor of the sauce! For the large pizza (because I like leftovers) and a drink, it does seem to add up. With 20% tip my most recent order ended up being a little over $30, but there are 8 big slices of pizza which will give me a lot of tasty leftovers. After the first couple trysts, we decided to go all the way. Pizza. She's into role playing (honeymoon phase, amirite guys?!)...sometimes she's Plain Jane (just sauce and cheese), and sometimes she spices it up as Sweet Jane (add a bit of pesto and romano). I'm not usually into dudes (not that there's anything wrong with that), but I gotta say...I like the meat. When Layla dresses up as Fast Eddie (pepperoni, meatballs and sausage) it's almost too much meat for me, but Sweet Lou and his lasagna combo (ricotta, meat sauce) is just right. This one time I got drunk and me, Eddie and Lou all got down together. I liked it...that stays between you and me though. To be up front though, Layla's not the best I've had in the city. Hell, she's not even the best in the 'hood (we live in a great area for slutty, delicious thin crust pies). But she's got that sauce and cheese and shapely crust (always a good combo). And she's always quick to come over when I call, and it's actually better that way. It's not that I'm embarrassed to be seen with her in public, it's just that her thicker, doughier crust doesn't lose as much (as a brick oven pie) in the box on the way over. I was accused of giving a fake $20 at which point I was told to call the cops or else they would not give me my $20 back. The issue was that they never marked the $20 with a pen so it seemed as though they were just hustling me for a $20. After insisting to mark the bill and offering to pay by card and give the money back he repeatedly said no and to call the cops. With that I again insisted to mark the bill which finally he gave in and did. The bill marked correctly and was real...
