My friend and I (both women) stopped by lazy bird for a couple drinks on a Saturday night. The decor and music was really nice. We went to the bar to order 2 French 75s, and expected to wait a little bit since it was a Saturday and quite busy. We followed standard bar protocol and waited patiently to get to the front of the bar and order. We got to the front of the bar and signaled the bar tender, who acknowledged us and said she'd get to us next. She made an order of drinks and then looked around for the next order. We signaled again but she ignored us and walked over to a group of guys that had stepped up to the bar after us. When she saw us, she sighed and rudely snapped "they were here first" and proceeded to ignore us. By that point we had been waiting half an hour and had been nothing but respectful. It felt like she was prioritizing finance bros that look like they tip well. I'm really disappointed by this experience, I expect better from Chicago. read more

The Lazy Bird is absolutely amazing. The reason I am giving it one star is because of a gentleman who claimed he was the "General Manager." His name is Webster Nelson. He was extremely rude...to say the least. My husband and I rarely get a night out and we were looking for a place that would be playing some amazing music. Lazy Bird did not disappoint. My husband and I were sitting down and trying to enjoy the band when a man, who was trying to hit on a girl, kept stepping in front of us and blocking our view. When my husband tapped on him and asked him politely if he could please move so I could see the band he then told us "I'm the General Manager" and told my husband "I heard you the first time" when he didn't initially move. Instead of realizing that his patrons were trying to enjoy the show, or doing what he can to ensure that they did, he decided to get confrontational and continued to stand in front of us so he could hit on a girl instead of doing his job. On top of it, he felt the need to keep mentioning he was the "General Manager" as if that made it okay for him to do what he pleases. When we were trying to leave he also got confrontational and ran over to the bouncer to try to kick us out instead of speaking with us like an adult. It is unfortunate that such a great place has employees that misuse their titles or job positions to push their patrons around. If you come to Lazy Bird watch out for Webster...he is a Lazy Employee. He will act as if he owns the place and completely disrespect the patrons. All we wanted was to enjoy our night out and enjoy the band! If you own Lazy Bird you should know your "General Manager" spends his work hours hitting on girls instead of taking care of the customers. We came to Lazy Bird on a Saturday evening after an early dinner and managed to snag a table. Even around 7PM, there was already a queue to get in. We waited for about 30 minutes and were seated at a large booth in the back. I loved the drink menu, they served a nice mix of classic cocktails and some more creative ones. Each drink had a cute illustration on the menu which I thought was really fun. We powered through and stayed until 9PM when the live jazz music started. The cocktails are pricey but you're in the West Loop so get over it and it's worth it if you stay for the live music. Love this bar!!! Good date spot. It's in a windowless basement so probably a better winter option. Great selection of cocktails. Comfortable seating and it's pretty small so I won't get really crowded or noisy. Price point is high-ish but considering the location, it's to be expected. I can't wait to go back! read more

I am a sucker for a secret bar! This place is very dark, sexy, and stylish. Although my favorite little spot is the Pac Man picture on the wall. The bar is beautiful! I came here with two of my friends. We get together the 2nd Thursday of every month to catch up and have fancy drinks. My friend had been here before and insisted that we all check it out. She is 100% right! We sat in this cozy corner booth thing with one seat on the outside. Everyone had plenty of room for our large totes and a great view of the room for people watching. The cocktail director came over to help us make decisions which is difficult given the huge book of options (plus probably any cocktail you can think of outside of the book) I wanted to try something new but asked him about the Negroni. It is, after all, Negroni season! The amount of passion and knowledge of Negrois that this guy presented was outstanding. I couldn't not order one. And oh man! It was the best Negroni I've ever had. So very smooth. I also had a Vieux Carre which was also so very smooth. They don't serve food and they don't serve children. This is a sophisticated establishment that is a great place to either begin or end a night. I can't wait to bring my boyfriend here. read more

This is the bar of the Hoxton hotel in the West Loop and it is a GREAT place to hang out and get a drink. Unfortunately for the getting a drink part of hanging out in a bar like this, I cannot do that because I am an alcoholic, but I use the very eclectic, warm, and adaptable space of the bar for business meetings or to touch base with employees outside of our offices (we don't have much privacy where I work). We came from San Francisco to visit and this was one of the spots on our list. It's in the basement but fell short in delivering on the experience. I really wanted to like it. It was a Friday night. They packed us in there to the degree that it was uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong, you want people in there but this was ridiculous. You want an experience people can enjoy and buy drinks and spend money. People don't look like they're having fun you're so smashed together. My friends and I took about 20 minutes to find this place but it was worth it. You have to walk through the Hoxton, go down some stairs, and you'll find it. If you get lost, just ask someone that works in the Hoxton and they'll direct you. There was live jazz music playing and it was honestly such a chill vibe. There were many people there but it wasn't overly packed. Their drink menu is a picture book included with all the ingredients. Our drink definitely did NOT disappoint. Located in the basement of the Hoxton hotel, you'll find this little gem that makes you feel like you're drinking in a cool library or lounge. The bar was swanky and the seating area well laid out. The music is excellent, loud enough to drown out other conversations but soft enough that you can hear the person across from you talking. There was a person about to start playing the piano right when we left on a Friday night. Nice! Now about the cocktails. Lazy Bird is a frickin dream come true. Dark, sexy, and cozy, it's situated on the lower level of The Hoxton. The cocktail program shows an absolute mastery of both historical and modern classics. There's a lot of creativity going on with some of their own creations, but there are also tons of inspired versions of classics to choose from. And they have a house Fernet blend that's killer. Beautiful and pretentious little lounge. Since I might be pregnant, I ordered mocktails. I asked the bartender about it and he made me two great tasting non-alcoholic drinks. When I asked for the bill, he had charged me $15 per each drink, plus tax! I ended up paying $34 and change plus I gave him $4 of tip. Could you imagine paying $38 for two mocktails??? And you know, these are small drinks with just a little bit of liquid. It's not even like ordering fancy juice at an organic place. Came here on Friday night at about 8pm. Long wait quoted to all those around us. A friend of mine used to work at Cabra so when I put my number down for the waitlist it popped up that I'm a guest of his. We were bumped to the top of the list. Drinks were excellent, as usual. Live music was great. Drinks came quickly despite how busy they were at the time and all staff were super helpful. 10/10 recommend. read more

We went Saturday evening and it was pretty busy the whole time but not over jammed - our large group found a table fairly quickly and there was rarely a line to get in. The drinks menu is fun and extensive and perhaps too much so - I would say that the bulk of the table wasn't terribly thrilled with their cocktails (just not made all that well... too sour/too bitter/etc.). But I'd chalk that up to it being such a massive menu that's pretty complicated and it can't be easy for the bartenders to get all of them right especially so soon after opening. Service was also on the slow side - again, typical of a new opening. I definitely don't foresee either of those things being the usual experience. The doorman was very friendly as was the bar manager who checked in on us a couple of times. Really enjoyed the library feel and the music wasn't so loud you had to shout. I look forward to giving it another go and going when they have live music. One thing to be aware of though, ladies - there's only 1 bathroom (1 single bathroom for 1 person) so there's often a line. read more
