I feel compelled to let the Yelp community know about this handyman. I contacted him to install a mantel shelf on top of my fireplace. He was very dry when I spoke to him and didn't seem enthusiastic at all about taking on new business. I didn't let that get to me as most of all the Yelp reviews sing his praises as a great handyman. After our conversation he asked me to E-mail him pictures specs of the job, so I did immediately after him and I spoke. In the body of the E-mail I asked for him to give me a call or E-mail me the estimate and when he could schedule to install the mantel shelf - no answer. A couple days had passed so I decided to follow up, although I firmly believe I shouldn't have to be the one to follow up. Nevertheless I contacted Larry again and I asked him if he had received my E-mail and he was VERY dry again and said "Yes, maybe I think so." I then asked him to double check and told him I wanted to get the job done ASAP. He replied "OK." So I asked what the next step was. He said he was going to review my job description that I E-mailed and he would get back to me. I allowed for two days to pass and called him yesterday 10/19 - no answer. I tried to follow up with him again today 10/20 and again no answer. Larry seems like the type of Handyman that has to be begged to do a job and that's not the type of handyman I want. I was practically begging him to come put up the mantel shelf, I have been chasing him for a week, and now I'm going to begin looking for another handyman to work with as LArry is unresponsive and doesn't care about business coming his way. The LEAST he could do after having me follow up so many times, is tell me he cannot take on the work at this time. I would have looked elsewhere long ago, but he dragged me along for the past 9 days. Do not work with someone that doesn't care to get back to potential clients, ignores their calls, doesn't inform you what the next step is, and has you follow up with him rather than the other way around. Caution - do not hire this guy. "Ok. See ya 10am"... this was the last text I got from LC Handyman days ago, finalizing our schedule for today. He Didn't show up! I text him, and called him on 2 different phone numbers. He did not have the courtesy to call or text me back! I hired him for a small job. When he didn't show, I hired someone else for half the price. The new guy showed within 2 hours as committed, and finished the job quickly. I'll be happy to refer the other guy. We hired Larry to create a door (with frame) into our attic from the stairway in 2017 and he did such a good job that we trusted him this time to renovate our small laundry room that is a little over 5' x 7'. The laundry room needed the wallpaper to be removed and room to be textured and repainted; patching an area in the ceiling that was previously poorly done (in which I thought was due to a leak, but there is no leak); removing existing floating shelf to install new wall cabinet; installing new flooring and baseboards; and installing 2 recessed lighting. His bid was within the ballpark that we estimated and more reasonable than the other contractors we consulted with. Plus, I had a better instinct with Larry than those other contractors that felt as though they were going to nickle and dime us. Larry arrived as scheduled and went through the process with me of his plan for the day and kept me in the loop. He started to work right away and completed my laundry room by himself within 4 days. He was very mindful to do the tasks he needed that will still allow me to use the washer & dryer and let me know when he would need to pull them out to do the rest of the room. His work is complete and clean (for doing it by himself) and he was accommodating to my changes, such as repositioning the lights and switching it to a dimmer. Larry is a 5 Star handyman. We suffered some flood damage in our family room and living room from the past winter's heavy rains. Larry and Mario did drywall repair an on the affected areas and painted the two rooms. They were always on time and did an outstanding job. They also dug a drain system around the house were the flooding occurred to insure that the flooding won't happen again. The door in the bathroom going out to the garage needed replacing and when Larry came out to measure for the door he fixed our outdated toilet system. The door had to be special ordered at Home Depot and when it was ready, he picked up the door for us saving me a trip to the store. He did great job and installed the door in a reasonable time. He also installed a doggy door for us. We have other jobs planned in the future and will use LC Handyman because we can be reassured of prompt and reliable service. read more

When our new-to-us home had what I thought were just some minor punch list items to take care of after our remodel, it became readily apparent that I was out of my element. LC Handyman squeezed us in the next day. About 30 minutes before their scheduled arrival, I received a call from Larry, who cancelled on me due to a previous job taking longer than anticipated; however, an hour or so later, he called back and said they could have someone out that afternoon, which was great considering we were scrambling to find someone to do the work. Larry's son came out and began working on the items on my list. The electrical was a little outside his league as well (which made me feel much better about my own skills). A while later, Larry joined him, and began to address some of the items that were still outstanding. I could hear him instructing his son on how to do the work, and (as a teacher) I appreciated him taking the opportunity for a good teaching moment. When the parts that I had on-hand turned out to be defective, Larry graciously told me how to finish the job once I had secured the correct parts. (His instruction was great! My light switch install turned out perfectly!) I only have one complaint (and it's partly my fault): When I made the appointment, I told his assistant (who is extraordinarily kind!) that I had some electrical work to do as well as hanging some mirrors and shelves. The quote that she gave me was for $135. On the day of the job, the actual cost of all my services was almost $450. It turns out that the electrical work alone was $135. The discrepancy was a communication error, most likely, but I should have verified the prices prior to having the work done, so lesson learned on my part. The work itself, however, was well done, and I wouldn't hesitate to both use and recommend LC Handyman in the future. ***Please note that I received a phone call requesting that if I was pleased with my service, would I please leave a positive review on Yelp. As a thank you, they would send us a gift card. Since I was planning on leaving a review anyway, that was icing on the cake.
