Need one of these near my place asap. Got the chicken curry with bread and a few fried eggs and it was so good. Curry itself is nothing special, but the bread is freshly made and yummy. This place gets a high review from me due to the fact that I can eat this every day. (Me am the curry monster. Curry is yum yum.) They'll never get 5 starts from me though... I think it was $5 for 3 sunny side up eggs. I go to this place weekly and this has been for 12 years!!! I go specifically for two things; Cafe Su Da (Iced Coffee) and Pate Chaud (a meat filled pastry of deliciousness). The owner and his staff are cool cats and if time permits always strike up interesting conversation. The iced coffee here is made fresh, not that pre-powdered or pre mixed add ice stuff you get from the other places. It's brewed and mixed in front of you. The Pate Chaud, come early because they sell out of it, it's that good and popular. One thing in particular about the place, the amount of people in the kitchen; at any given time 6 or 7 for a place this small, they really are very popular. I usually get my stuff to go so can't say much about the food that everyone seems to order but I hear the Ox tongue stew is the bomb (not for me). Like all the other shops in the area, this place is unassuming from the outside - exactly the reason why it's hard to pinpoint quality Viet places in the area. Sure there's a lot of quantity, but quality can be difficult to sift out. My uncle took me here right before my flight back to the East Coast and I'll have to admit, the Bo Kho here is some of the best that I've had. Good portion, nice blend of spices, and not overly salty. I'd highly recommend it for anyone looking for quality Bo Kho or Rieu. As for the other dishes, I can't really speak to those. What's great about Little Saigon is that there are restaurants that have been in the same location since the 80's. Le Croissant Dore is one of them. I remember my pops taking me when I was a kid. I used to get super stoked coming in on a hot summer day and my father letting me choose one of those fruit tarts to get to go. But the main reason why this restaurant has been here for all these years is because of their Bo Kho (Beef Stew) served with a warm baguette. Menu is pretty simple. Which Beef Stew do you want? You really can't go wrong with the original which I presume has been the same since the 80's. There's also the curry stew if you want to switch it up. Place is always busy in the mornings. Always a wait. And as it should be. This is a Little Saigon staple. I recently returned and it's the same. Maybe the paint outside and it's a little bit more cleaner than back then. The Fruit Tart here is more like the classic fruit tart with a hardish crust that gets filled with cream and then topped with glazed fruit, like a pie. It's good if you like that type of Fruit Tart but I like the one at Van's Bakery more (which is more like a napoleon) because of the flaky layers and higher cream to crust ratio. Ordering and pickup for the Fruit Tart on Thanksgiving was absolutely terrible. People called in ahead to place orders for pickup at a specific time but on Thanksgiving day, all of those reservations went out the door and it was first come, first serve. I've been coming here since the 80s and have enjoyed their fruit tart and beef stew. Today, I dropped in for a cafe sua da and croissant. Beyond disappointing, the croissant was over baked, stale, and crumbly. Even massed produced Costco has better croissants. I have never found their coffee amazing, and today was no different...it was cloyingly sweet and bitter. My visits have steadily declined over the years and today was a quick reminder of why. Their quality has continued to slip, customer service is non-existent, and there are so many better options available. Just came back from eating here with my boyfriend for the first time. I always pass by the storefront on my way to Top Baguette (best Vietnamese sandwiches in town, btw!), and I always see at least a couple old Vietnamese men having coffee in the front. I was always intrigued, but never actually walked in. But today, I decided to find out what it was all about. And I'm really glad I did. At 9:30 AM on Labor Day weekend, it was pretty busy. All around were smiling faces enjoying food in a casual setting. I immediately felt like whatever we were going to eat was going to really good. I told my boyfriend to find a table (there were only two left) while I ordered our food). We were just planning on having cafe sua da and croissants, but we noticed that almost everyone ordered either the bo kho or the beef curry. So I pointed to the guy sitting behind me and told the girl behind the counter, "I'll have what he's having." Our cafes came out first. Eh...that's probably the only reason I rate this place a '4.' I prefer Gala Bakery's cafe, but this cup wasn't bad by any means. Then our beef curry came out moments later with a hot baguette (and I mean right out of the oven fresh and warm). My bf and I shared the one portion, which is perfect for a moderate brunch. The beef cari was so flavorful, like it had been cooking for hours. And it tasted homemade. And the baguette was so buttery and crispy on the outside yet warm and soft on the inside. Just fantastic. We left feeling perfectly satisfied. I really enjoyed the ambiance there, too. Lots happy people chatting away over good food. Really laid-back feel. The seating is a little tight; we sat in the corner, but I had no problem. I love the "small community" feel here. read more

Be careful about parking because one of them Jenny Nguyens gangster BF might decide to put a dent in your door if you park too close to her white Benz. Anyways, I been here many times and the beef stew and curry tastes just dandy. Never one time did I get the runs afterward and that says allot Yelpers about Viet places. Best part about this place is how the servers stare at you from behind their little cowboy kitchen doors when you eat, then hide when you need your water refilled. 1 dolla tip is all you get mama san. I picked one up for Lunar New Years and it was a hit with the family. Too bad there weren't any left overs the next day. Worst experience I've ever had here. So bad I'm compelled to write my first ever Yelp review. Brace yourself, it's a long one. I ordered the fruit tar myself for the first time yesterday. My friends have always come here to order this cake for their birthday parties and it's usually delicious. I ordered two, one for my family and one for my friend's birthday party. First impressions of the place were small and cozy. But then they left the kitchen wide open for any patron to see. It was very dirty and I was surprised how this establishment passed any health inspections. At home, I was really excited to eat it. At first glance, the cake didn't look visually appealing. The pear skins were black and the pears themselves were discolored. The fruit arrangement did not look nice like the pictures posted. Then my family and I dug in and it was the worst fruit tart ever. The cream was not creamy. It was more like a dark yellow paste. It tasted old and like nothing. The whole cake was not fresh. A fruit tart that is not fresh is no longer a fruit tart. I bet $100 that it was an old cake made a day or two before. My sister and I came back to the bakery with both cakes to see what they would do. It being a Vietnamese-owned place, we didn't expect anything. There is no such thing as customer service for many Vietnamese establishments, unfortunately. But what we wanted was a refund. A replacement for a fresh one would have sufficed. Then hell happened. One of the cooks/bakers in her 40-50s comes out and we tell her what was wrong. She IMMEDIATELY became defensive and started raising her voice. Then two more of these ladies come out to defend their product. We insisted that it was not good and we told them to try it themselves. We complained about the cream and the black pears. One tried it and said nothing was wrong with it (of course). Then they insisting on bringing us into the kitchen but we refused to go in because it was irrelevant. The point was that the cake was bad. Then they brought out their basket of pears (which were black, can't these people spend money on FRESH-looking pairs?) and their cream for us to try (thanks. but no thanks), which looked less pasty and a little lighter in its yellow color. We were very civil with them and repeatedly told them that it was inedible for us. They said that we didn't know how to eat it, but what they were really insinuating is that we have bad taste. They were so rude in their manners, the way they carried themselves, and their speech. They even left my sister and I at the counter a couple of times while they walked into the kitchen to talk loudly amongst themselves. We told the cashier to ask them to come back and treat us properly like customers. Just imagine three Asian ladies in their 40-50s with their aprons yelling at you. This was a huge scene in the restaurant and I was so happy their customers were there to see how absurdly rude they were. My best one-word description of their behavior would be "uneducated." At this point, I was thinking screw them and their cakes. I wanted my money back and I was not leaving here without it. We demanded to talk to the manager. The cashier begins giving us an attitude, phones the manager and said to us, "How can we believe you if only a small portion of the cake is missing?" LOL, you're kidding me, right? Do I need to eat half of the cake to know it's bad? Wow, all these people were so defensive of their product and themselves that it made them utterly stupid. The manager agrees to refund one cake. I wanted to get both cakes refunded but my sister wanted to get out of there before insanity overcame her and so she agreed. We wanted to leave that un-refunded cake there just to show them but my sister thought about taking the cake to my friend's (the birthday one whose favorite fruit tart is from this bakery) to let her try it because we wanted confirmation. And of course she said it was not fresh and the cream is not how it should be. Prepare to fill your lungs with smoke!! 3 beggars; two right outside the door ready to grab you and one was right inside, just hanging there looking for patrons to beg. And no one work here did a thing, they just went about their chores. No one cares about servicing because there's no such thing, but at least care about how this project on your establishment. And it was obvious that they have no such pride... Yes I was only here long enough to get a to go order of Beef Tongue and Beef Stew for the first time. After I noticed the whole place was filled with cigarette smoke from their customers right out the door (four smoking customers). I mentioned it to them saying that it's an enforceable law and that they're breaking the Federal Law by allowing these low-life smokers/drinkers right out their doors. They told me bc they are "Vietnamese and it's a Viet place and these ppl wouldn't listen anyway." WTF? So you don't care that you'll get cancer to make a few bucks from these customers who are either oblivious or ignorant? And you don't give an eff to protect your other customers who don't smoke? This is quite telling to me about what they value and how they conduct their business. A simple solution, if they even cared is that if you don't want to have to explain to these smokers about the law then take away the outdoor sitting. It's as simple as that. Definitely NOT a good place for kids. Sitting wise is bad, atmosphere is horrendous. And hey NO SERVICE!!! But that's no biggy right? THe air is even poisoned with cigarette smoke so why does anyone ever come here for anything? The Beef Stew has great flavor better than the beef tongue but you know what? My throat was clogged up and miserable after I left there. I literally had smoke for appetizer so not really fully enjoyed the food as much as I could have. So never again. I hate traditional birthday cakes. Therefore, when I need to get a cake to share for a party or a birthday I get myself a fruit tart cake. These things are sooo much better. Delicious fruit, custard, glaze. Yum yum!!! I want another. They are also great because you can get one made last minute. call me a douche bag, its true. here i am on a Sunday, my girlfriends Birthday, and i dont have a cake. We had settled on Korean BBQ, for dinner with our friends, at our newly found fave spot over in Garden Grove. (see my review for Cham Soot Gol) Naturally, i figured we could find a suitable cake on our way over there. here is where Yelp makes me proud. i found a few things that looked promising, but then i came across the idea of getting a fruit-tart instead. again i had a few options. looking over the reviews it became apparent that a lot of the other bakeries were being compared to Le Croissant Dore. so why go to an imitator when i can go to the place that set the standard. it all seemed too perfect, the bakery was right down the street from the restaurant. i was able to call ahead and secure myself a 1/2 sheet fruit tart. when we arrived it was past 6pm and they closed at 7. we were greeted nicely, and they had our tart ready, they even put the G/F's name on the tart free of charge. 35 bucks was all it cost , and i must say i was impressed with the beauty of the tart right away. after dinner, the waiters brought in our tart. i knew we were in for a real treat because the tart came with a few of the staff admiring it the whole way. we sang the songs and blew the candles, and cut the sucker up. the fruit was nicely arranged, and plentiful. the custard was the perfect texture and extremely good. not too sweet, but not flavorless. but it was all about the flaky goodness that was the crust. it was crispy, buttery, and the perfect contrast to the silky custard and decadent fruit. it was an instant success with our friends and was almost completely consumed. we took pity on the staff and offered a few pieces for them to share. i will be returning to Le Croissant Dore, for future events, and probably any time i'm in the area. thanks guys! you bailed me out of a possible silent car ride home, and a rather cold shoulder. i owe ya! The appetizers such as the bo kho and sieu mai were good, but both the soups (Banh canh) and hu tieu were very underwhelming.

most famous for their fruit tart cakes; if you're not familiar with this type of cake it's a flakey frust underneath, with a custard layer and lots of fruits on top. makes for a very sweet but not overwhelming treat... many people prefer this over traditional birthday cakes b'c it pleases a lot more pallettes! what many people don't realise is this place has awesome vietnamese style curry-stew. chunks of beef in a stew broth with onions and potatos, served with a hot french bread used for dipping into the sauce. SO good. get the curry and a cafe sua da for around 7$. the inside is a surprise.. the wall is painted to depict a scene as though you're sipping a latte in a parisian cafe looking out at the passerbys.. nice touch. still a hole-in-the-wall vietnamese place to me but that wall always makes me smile. finish off with an almond croissant or a slice of that tart cake and your budget's still single-digit. =) read more

My gf brought me here for lunch today. She ordered the Bo Kho (beef stew) for me. It came served on a large flat dish, and the beef stew was dark and I thought it was curry at first. You also get a big loaf of baguette bread, to dip into the stew. You can get more bread if you ask for some. The stew is delicious, I pretty much finished the plate clean. Early on in the meal, I wanted to have some steamed rice to mix with the stew. Unfortunately, they didn't have any rice. So I had to finish the entire plate of stew with just the baguette. The chunks of beef were fully marinated in the stew. Some pieces were kinda rubbery and took forever to chew on, other pieces were soft and tender. You have a small dish with salt/pepper and a slice of lemon to squeeze into, dip the meat in it. Yummy. The gf asked for some onions to put into the stew; that was a good call I must say. It was overall a satisfying and surprisingly filling meal. Each dish was around 6 bucks. Cash only. As for the fruit tarts and dessert stuff, I didn't try any of them. The overall setting is like a donut or pastry shop, and the dining/seating area is pretty small, sort of like a Starbucks set up for the tables and chairs. I got the strawberry pastry, 5/$1 cream puffs and an almond croissant. The strawberry was good but it was a little hard, the cream puffs were alright, it kind of tasted like Costco cream puffs. But even those are addicting. :) I just wish they were a little bigger, it was a little on the warm side. The almond croissant was good too but it could've used more powdered sugar, the inside was nice and tasty though. It wasn't too sweet. I'll come back and try the stew. this place should stay as a bakery and not a restaurant. the service is bad. even though it was not that crowded, the food took about thirty minutes. the beef stew was pretty tasty and that is the reason why i gave them 2 stars rather than one. it had vegetables and the baguette was toasted well. it is pretty clean but there is not that much space inside. when i came to eat here, there was chunks on food stuck to the utensils. i would recommend you to remember to clean it first before use. i also got the cream puffs which was mediocre. the cream was buttery and tasty but the outer bread was dry. when i came to eat here, there were flies which did not appeal much to my appetite. i would not come back here to eat. read more

For a place that calls itself "Le Croissant Dore" you would think that they would take pride in their croissants but, unfortunately, they don't. I used to come here long ago, when it was owned by a nice family with their kids there helping, for the excellent croissants and also for the fruit tart cake but ever since they changed owner the croissants are no longer the same and are actually worse than supermarket croissants. On top of that, I gave this place another try just to see if the last visit was a fluke but there was no improvement in the quality of their croissants and they were dishonest with returning the correct change so it's time to search for a replacement. read more

Located on the strip on the corner of Bolsa/Magnolia, this area has a lot of construction going on and parking can be difficult. However, once you're able to find a spot, you enter Le Croissant Dore and you don't seem like you're in Westiminster. It's not huge but it's intimate and has a feeling that you're in a french cafe with its cute wall decor. We ordered the beef stew dish with the baguettes and this was YUM- much better than Tai Buu- you get more meat (with less tendon), onion, carrots and you savor each bite as you dip the baguette in the meaty sauce. The portions aren't huge but enough to make you feel satisfied and with the ice tea, it came out to be approx. $7- not bad for an enjoyable lunch on a Sunday afternoon! The girls at the front are MEAN. Learn some customer service. Bought a cake and sent a worker to grab a birthday cake and some food. Apparently they don't care about customer service at all and like to give attitude. "We don't give cake knives", okay she asks for regular knives - "we have them but why do you want them", because I need to cut the cake, "it won't work then she tells my employee "here and good luck with it" Then she took the rest of the food and left it on the counter. One word...HATERS. This is America, assimilate and learn some customer service and basic communication skills, shame that they are so young and will be in this job in Bolsa for the rest of their lives. read more

We just ordered the fruit tart. It was pretty pricey for a single tart ($4 each) and unfortunately the tart was not fresh. The crust probably tasted pretty good when it was fresh, but ours was probably sitting on display all afternoon and it felt hard to eat. The fruit was average and I was pretty disappointed they used candy cherries and what looked to be canned pineapple slices. read more

Le croissant dore has the best fruit tart I've tasted in Orange County! It is a small restaurant with fast service. They always have fruit tart cakes available even if you don't order ahead. Reasonably priced at $26 for a 10" cake and $29 for a 12". The 12" easily feeds 16 people. This is my go to place for Asian family parties. read more

They are so nice!!! I got the $29 fruit tart and the owner upgraded it to the gigantic $40 one. So sweet of him!!! It was delicious!!!!!
