This is really the only place to eat on fair harbor. Overall is a nice place with great view and location. The service was great, they were great in getting us seated and all the staff was great and attentive. NO STARS!!! Just had one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life (and I'm 60). Had a reservation for 7:15, arrived 5 minutes early to see walk ins seated ahead of us and then waited an hour to be seated. During that time I repeatedly went to the host who kept saying "you have the next table" which, when it came open, went to someone else. And then things went downhill. Drink orders aren't delivered. My wife ordered two appetizers, one as an entree and they were delivered together (after 20 minutes) instead of separately, so her mussels got cold while she ate her burrata. When she asked for a bit more lettuce with her burrata (which came with a leaf) she was told "that will be an up charge"!! We couldn't believe it. I understand things are tough during COVID, but there's no excuse for the bad attitude and truly horrible service we got at this restaurant. I guess they think that since they're the only game in town they can treat their customers like dirt. Order take out, cook at home, but do not patronize this establishment!!! read more

We walked to Le Dock from Ocean Beach on a pretty hot day - just saying that the walk back was far better along the water than the midway path. We didn't make reservations because we weren't sure how long it would take and if we were making stops along the way. We did make reservations about 8 minutes before we got there and were glad we did because it got busy fast and if we were walk-ins, we would've had to wait. The service was really good and inside was nice and cool. The drinks were also good. I got the Burrata Caprese which would have been better if they had used a nice, ripe tomato. I saw some beautiful ones in the market around the corner, so I know they were available. The pesto on it was very tasty but just not enough of it. If you're craving basil, maybe ask for extra. I also got the Korean Chicken which was pricey for fried chicken and noodles but it was delicious and a large portion. My husband and friends got various other appetizers and entrees that I can't remember. There were no complaints from anyone and no one was wowed by the taste. Overall I would say that it was good and worth trying but the food was nothing special but was a bit overpriced even for the island. Completely overpriced, but that is to be expected with really not many other options in Kismet. Sit outside and watch the sunset, it really is beautiful. We have been going to this restaurant for a few years. However, this year since the new owner took over, it has become one of our favorite restaurants in Fire Island. The menu has expanded significantly, so your choices are much more varied. Most importantly, though, the food is delicious. The salad appetizers are fresh and tasty! The crab cake is filled with crab and fabulous. The fish is always fresh and so enjoyable. The pastas are always so good and cooked al dente. There are also a variety of specials each night to choose from This new owner has taken a restaurant that has a beautiful location, where you can view the lovely sunsets, and turned it into a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommended The new Le Dock, to anyone visiting Fire Island. Even if you aren't staying in Fair Harbor, it's worth the short water taxi ride, just to experience this delightful restaurant. read more

3.5 Stars. Le Dock a long time personal favorite and long known as the top Resteraunt on Fire Island gets a remake by famed Jean Georges. A more formal version then its predecessor with expanded menu (Minus Kid friendly items), diminished hours (Serves Lunch Thurs-Sun only) upgraded bar and professional service. Dined with my wife and 3 kids and the staff was great. Food was excellent (No comparison to its 1 Central Park Brother). Overall a very good experience. Certainly it caters to the right clientele, but not sure if it's the right atmosphere. Definitely worth a stop and seeing more than the usual FH, Dunewood, Lonelyville, Saltair and Kismet beach goers. Review Update: They no longer serve lunch. This is a non-starter when you're the only game in town! Was this a financial decision? Lack of touch w patrons? Laziness? Been coming to FH for 20 years. No lunch on a Fri is beyond the pale. I'm posting my original review from last summer, which was three stars. I'm removing a star because claiming to 'MOVE' in a town with exactly ONE restaurant (and a pizza place), a wine shop, a supermarket and a fire house as a way of removing reviews is sleazy and the antithesis of the town Jean Georges has decided to set up shop in. "Stand by: full disclosures abound. Disclosure #1: I've been coming to Fair Harbor for many years, and have eaten at Le Dock on occasion. mostly I would wander in on hot afternoons straight off the beach for a margarita, or sometimes to pick up a to-go drink to take out for the sunsets. It was a very casual place, almost tiki lounge-like, with laid back staff and clientele. I think those days are if not over, at the very least they will be at odds with the gentrification the new Le Dock brings to my sleepy little hamlet. Sunday night was jam-packed with a crowd alternately over groomed and sporting sportcoats and high-hair who water taxied or boated in from other towns or the mainland, and the flip-flop and tee shirt-wearing traditionalists. It's an uneasy sight to behold in the re-vamped space, but aside from a few people who just want to complain for the sake of complaining during a soft opening (including here on Yelp: btw, joel s, he's 'Jean GEorges), people seem willing to give Le Dock 2.0 the benefit of the doubt. Disclosure 2: I didn't eat. I'd made a reservation Saturday night, but when several houseguests ended up staying over I knew that not only would this hot spot not be able to expand our reservation (it was a challenge even in the old days), but that even if seating were possible, several people would have been priced out. I watched the dishes coming out, listened to people's experiences, asked customers who dined, and get the feeling that when they're open, and if you can afford it, the food is pretty good (though I hear wildly conflicting reviews of the buttermilk chicken; some say it's brilliant, some say the sauce that accomapnies it is too hot). The pirces are STEEP, for the most part. Like, SoHo steep. (But there are silver linings; keep reading)... They gain a star with me for being incredibly accommodating with the locals in a big way; Douglas, one of the managers, worked at the original Le Dock, is a longtime resident of FH, and opened up the wine store for this ning-nong who forgot what a ghost town FH can be in mid season, even this late in mid season. They should, however, perhaps be a little more accommodating when someone calls twenty minutes before the kitchen closes to say they're running over (a literal three-minute sprint); that's a really great time to offer said caller to put our order in (we were willing to order right there) as opposed to saying that the kitchen will be closed by the time we get there. Not a big deal, and I'm sure this will change as LD2.0 finds its sea legs, but this is very much the spirit of the Fair Harbor I've grown so fond of these many years. The new bathrooms are a HUGE improvement. They also get props for making sure to have items on offer "simply prepared" (seafood) that are more in the traditional LeD price range; a good thing because not only do people who get their tans on a beach and not a salon like fresh simple fish (especially on the island), they are going to be the mainstays there, I suspect. Likewise, I applaud the fact that while actually offering $18 designer martinis and (I hope I'm remembering this right) $15 twee margaritas, Le Dock 2.0 also makes regular drinks for the masses at the old price points. If only it didnt have that 'poor-door' feel. Maybe the clientele will loosen up and embrace the town as much as they're embracing the name. Because I actually think (or at least hope) that this place won't over-gentrify a sweet little corner of the world. (For those who wonder, the pizza place is still up and running). All in all, thoughtful staff hard at work on a soft opening, and a potential looming culture clash that I think may iron itself out should the 1% not SoHo the crap out of the place. And provided the locals stay loose, and the awesome staff loosen up just a little more as they get the lay of the land. I'll hopefully be back again this summer, and look forward to seeing LD2.0 in full swing. I'll eat there next time, and can't wait. And not for nothing, but I miss the old "CREW" staff shirts. Food is excellent and pretty much perfect for this end of Fire Island. Don't go expecting the same service you might get in the city. The service is fine. Go for the food, the conversation and the view. I've had the pasta in clam sauce...it was perfect. The mussels are excellent. The salads fresh. The drinks generous. The menu is small and offers something for everyone. The food is well prepared and has never disappointed us. The prices are average for the Island. Reserve a table outside and before sunset, enjoy your dinner as it sets. It's worth the trip. read more

We visited for dinner last night when we were supposed to be evacuating due to Storm Hermine. Restaurant was pleasantly full with ample seating for large groups - both indoor and outdoor. We had heard the service wasn't amazing; however, we were pleased with our wait staff. They were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Menu does not disappoint however there are limited vegetarian options. We tried the following: Starters Sweet Pea Guacamole - delicious and lightly flavored but not spicy Calamari - the sauce was nice, however the calamari was slightly gummy Mains Lobster and corn - delicious and lightly flavored Truffle and cheese pizza - very thin crust, nicely seasoned Desserts Molten chocolate cake - standard but delicious Sundae - creatively prepared with Carmel corn on top Almond cake - a standout! I have been eating here each summer for the past three years. I can honestly say the food is sub par and much more expensive than Ocean Beach and Kismet. I've spent every weekend this summer on Fire island and this was by FAR the BEST meal i had. I enjoyed their watermelon arugula salad which was delicious and refreshing. For a main course I enjoyed the crab cake sandwich which was light and flavorful and was served the best fries -perfectly well done as ordered. The drink menu was filled was good choices. I tried the velvet sunset made with Tito's, basil simple syrup and strawberries which was a perfect choice for a hot summer day. Great location, fantastic service and excellent food and drinks. Spent a breathtaking weekend in Fair Harbor and enjoyed takeout and outdoor dining meals @ Le Dock. The monk fish special and lobster tacos were off the chain delicious! The grilled octopus appetizer was cooked to perfection. Did I mention this was take-out! Our meal was so delicious we returned for outdoor dining which is spacious, safe and lovely especially as sunset nears. Our server was attentive, sweet and fun. With such high expectations set, it was hard to think they could deliver again but did. The tuna tartar and salmon entree were fresh and delicious. The specials are high quality and fresh. The wine and cocktail list is impressive too. Michael, the owner and chef, came to our table and shared his story of buying the restaurant. We had the most delicious and relaxing meal here. What a treat! With all out door seating, these guys have seamlessly elevated dining in the age of Covid. The food....fabulous menu and each dish better than the previous. Greek salad was fantastic. Same for the salmon. Also tasted the steak AND the tuna. It was all perfectly seasoned. (And we're a bit picky!) Just an overall great dining experience. Although it was busy, the service was incredibly attentive. And the live music that was set up on the dock was a great background. Every thing about this restaurant is on point. The frozé? Immaculate, and a must try before the summer ends. The Food? Spectacular, and more often than not, a culinary adventure that satisfies. The sunset view? A picturesque sight to behold. The pizza side of the restaurant is also fabulous, exactly the level of pizza quality that I, as a native New Yorker, expect and demand. Went here last night with my family because we had heard it did a 180 since the new owner took over. The marinated skirt steak was delicious. NY strip melted in your mouth. The calamari was beyond delicious. Not tough or chewy at all. The stuffed artichoke was awesome as was my husband's penne ala vodka. My mother has celiac and the owner called us directly after my dad contacted them to see if they could accommodate. He came by several times during our meal to make sure everything was ok. Service in general was phenomenal. Definitely a new option in the area for delicious food. read more

Go here! Best restaurant on Fire Island by far and I like to think I'm a tough critic. When I say really good drinks I also mean it. Started off with an extra dirty martini and it was 100% up to par and amazing with tasty olive juice (those who order dirty martinis know that not every restaurant is an 'order a martini' place and trust me - this one 100% is). The cucumber martini I got to follow was complex and delicious- definitely one of the best I've had. My partner wanted something more sweat and he had what I believe was called the GT (?) something with raspberries, basil and a sugar rim and it was so tasty as well. For food we started off with the crab cakes which were perfect, super high quality and amazing and came with an equally tasty side cabbage salad. As my main I ordered the panko crusted salmon which was so tasty and came with a really, really good red salsa-like sauce. My partner got the red snapper special which was equally tasty and unique, the snapper was chargrilled and came atop various veggies. We made reservations in advance which I'd recommend to be safe. One note - if you want views of the sunset you should specify that in your reservation notes! read more

I've been here once a summer for the last 8 years and have always enjoy the space and the atmosphere of the neighborhood - I'm not a foodie so the chef doesn't ever impress me, however, the $50 truffle pizza is amazing. It's not on the menu so you have to ask for it. Tonight's service was uniquely spectacular: our server, who was too busy to take care of us at first, busted out at the end of our meal and orchestrated a 6 minute getaway plan to help us make the water taxi back home (they only come once an hour). The pizza was boxed, leftovers packaged and a check split two ways - no joke, in 6 minutes. It was outstanding. Thanks, Cameron! People say it's over priced and the service is terrible but it's fire island! If you can afford to be on FI in the first place AND the $10+/pp water taxi there and back to wherever on the island you're coming from... just relax and enjoy. read more

Important note. Le Dock is under new ownership. Ate there yesterday for dinner, and sampled several items from each meal. Seafood, meats, ap's, etc. Excellent to say the least. In attendance was a person with extreme Gluten issues. Not only was the menu perfect for her, but the chef was more then willing to accommodate changes and needs, checking several times, and giving suggestions for tweeks to the meal to help her. We tried this place again recently. We all get they have to make money during the season, but where is the lube! The place still smells like raw sewage. Its worth the effort to make sure your prepared and have hamburgers and hot dogs while in Fair harbor lAnd buy 3 big bottles of Grey Goose which would be essentially be 3 rounds of drinks for 2 couples! Don't go here. The portions are small and the food is WAY overpriced. The Bloody Mary was so small and in a thin cup. There are better restaurants on Fire Island (Surfs Up). Fair Harbor has a pioneer market, but other than that, there aren't many food options. Walk to Kismet and have a nice ocean sunset dinner at Surf Up and maybe take the ferry back.
