I went to Simi Valley for Yelp Experience and stopped by this French Japanese cafe. I always would like to try Japanese owned businesses because I'm a Japanese and it's suited to Japanese tastes. I ordered Matcha danish, pecan croissant and walnut Apple muffin. Everything was delicious. They have also cookies and cakes. Service is great. One of the cashiers, she was Japanese who were very friendly and nice, we talked in Japanese. If you want to try this bakery, I suggest arriving in the morning. Wow!!! What an amazing find. Stopped in for a croissant and ordered the prosciutto and brie croissant and the cinnamon pecan croissant with a Belgium hot chocolate. We asked to cut them in half to share. The prosciutto and brie was absolutely delicious! It had a minty taste with a sweet jam. The cinnamon pecan was softer and more cinnamony than an actual cinnamon roll...amazing!!! Ended up buying 2 more to take home! Seating is a series of tables for two, decorated cutely for Halloween. these pastries are not it henni...... they are serviceable but lowkey feel like they're made in a giant factory and don't feel like they've actually been freshly baked. there is a specific genre of pastry that you can find in farmers markets that look amazing from the outside, but when you eat them they are.... just ok. no doubt these are made with love and care and all that yeah but something about these are not hitting. simi has yet to have a truly gaggy bakery and it came close with the bakers daughter, but they recently changed the baker who works there and it went down in quality, below le hérisson in my opinion. the matcha is good honestly but also the people working should get on wellbutrin or something they need a little pick me up read more

5 Stars for the Amazing food. My favorites are the savory items. However, major complaint and why I took away a star. They are ALWAYS sold out of their best sellers by the time I can get there. So they are losing business and money by me and many people. I show up at noon and already all the Japanese Sausage breads and sausage danishes are gone. I easily would buy 5 and more for my entire family but they only have enough to last for the early morning crowd. A lot of us do not have the luxury to arrive here by the early morning. If you don't have enough for customers who arrive by very early afternoon, you simply don't make enough for demand. If you know certain items sell out way too early, you should concentrate on making more of them instead of the less popular items that do not sell out as fast. I have work and family to take care of. Many people have reasons they cannot arrive in the wee early hours of the morning to come by your food. I did not arrive late either. It was only 12 noon. If you can't make enough of the most popular items to last long enough to allow customers to come buy them, you're losing out on business. So excited to have a Japanese French bakery in Ventura County! I've been wanting to make the drive out here to check out the bakery since they opened and finally made it! Sadly I arrived around 2:30pm in the afternoon and they ran out of most items already. Fortunately I was able to try their Popeye croissant, regular croissant, Matcha muffin and a Chocolate chip pecan cookie. Popeye croissant was very savory and filling! It was filled with an egg, ham, spinach and cheese. The pastry was still flaky. Great item to share! The regular croissant was delicious. Flaky and buttery. Can't go wrong with a croissant! The Matcha muffin had a strong authentic matcha taste which I appreciate. It also tasted like it had some white chocolate chips too. Good taste but the muffin seemed a little dry and crumbly. The chocolate chip pecan cookie was crispy and crunchy. Had a good texture. Liked the balance between sweetness and nuttiness. Great with coffee! Cute spot with some tables and chairs for dining in. They also had some pies which I didn't try. Would love to come back and try their other pastries and drinks. Service was good and there was plenty of parking in the lot. This review is long overdue. I can easily say that Le Herisson is one of the best (if not the best) Asian bakery in Simi Valley. And yes, this includes the beloved 85 degrees. Le Herisson is a small bakery located in the same plaza as Stater Bros and Yolanda's. The plaza can get busy, but parking is overall easy to find. When you first walk in, you are greeted by a line of very delicious looking pastries. The bakery is a fusion of Japanese and French style pastries, so some of the flavors are very unique. My personal favorite (out of the ones that I have tried so far) is the Caprese Danish. There is also a nice drink selection. I personally love the Iced Matcha Latte, which I think is some of the best matcha you can find in the area. Service is great. The interior is super cute and reminds me of a cute cafe in Paris. Overall, I highly recommend checking out this place if you are in the area. If you love pastries, you won't regret coming here! read more

Between my husband and I, we've gone three times in the last week and a half and it's be absolutely divine. So far I've tried the ham and cheese, cherry danish and matcha Red bean croissant. While they have each been delicious on their own, my favorites have been the Popeye and Maple Pecan Croissants. My favorite is the Japanese curry croquette. I'm not too familiar with French bakeries, so I'm not sure how it blends with Japanese style, but it just works. Always love coming to this place! There is always something new to try! If you want something savory and like curry flavor, try their Japanese Curry bread. Other savory items we love are the Popeye (with egg, bacon, and spinach), and Ham and cheese croissant. If you like blueberries, the blueberry custard donut is a must try. The dough is light and airy, the custard is not overly sweet, just right! Yum!! If you want something to drink and like green tea, give the Hojicha latte a try! We enjoy this drink hot, but iced is good as well. It is a green tea with a more nutty flavor, but it isn't green in color, so don't be shocked. Uh oh...I'm in trouble! I have no idea how I found this hidden gem but I am 50% happy I did and 50% wish I never did! I cannot stop thinking about the almond croissant. It was super fresh and perfectly flaky and crispy with just enough filling that was not too sweet and just the right almond flavor. I can't wait to go back for another one. It was before noon and I got the last one so definitely a place to get up and go to early. I also got a peanut butter cookie and it was ok. They don't have a full espresso drink menu which would be nice but that's not a deal breaker for me. I'll try one of their matcha drinks next time, they looked legit. I particularly am a simple man to please so I dive onto their butter croissant and coffee. It's a small coffee space, enough for a few tables and some chairs. It's like being in one of small Mom and Pops of Paris' outskirts or perhaps Belgium. My husband loves this place. I'm sure he'd award them all 5 stars, but since he's not writing this review, and I am, I'm going to stick to my 3 star award unfortunately. I've tried Le Herisson's bakery items on two separate occasions now, and both times, I've found (some of) their products to be overbaked, and I take issue with some (not all) of ingredients added. For example, especially with the croissants, I think they are being overbaked, and with the chocolate croissants, why do they add such a tiny amount of chocolate inside? It's almost undetectable. If they are going to advertise offering a chocolate croissant, I expect a fair amount of chocolate to be present inside, not just a tiny squirt. (To be fair, this bakery is not alone in how they do this, but it still isn't right.) Getting back to the overbaking, this problem extends to their danish, too. I definitely don't think it's an issue of sitting out for too long... there's moisture from the fruit, but the surrounding dough, especially along the edges, tends to be brittle and/or dried out. I was quite disappointed in the croissant with strawberries and cream as it should have been so moist from the added ingredients, but the dried out / overbaked croissant detracted from my enjoyment. This happened BOTH times I purchased this item, and it was on separate occasions !! If I had to guess, I'd say they could use about 5 minutes less in the oven. I think they should play around with it because they definitely have a really good product, but it needs improvement. Another issue, with the cookies, the peanut butter for instance, doesn't taste like peanut butter to me. Not sure what's going on here.....perhaps they aren't using enough, perhaps they are overbaking. I don't know, but it needs help in the flavor dept. My favorite item so far is their apricot danish. There's enough going on with that, that I don't see or taste any appreciable deficiencies, but the rest of their items need some attention, and then, I believe this would be worthy of the 5 stars that most people have already awarded. read more

A tiny , cozy space where the bakeries are world class and come in an overwhelming multitude of varieties, so I tried 8 of them on my first trip. The quality of the baked goods was very unexpected, and I mean that it was easily reminiscent of the best bakeries and patisseries I've had in Europe, in terms of the flakiness, fluffiness, subtleness and presentation.
