WOW! What a terrific little French pastry shop in the middle of St. Augustine. It reminded me of the shops lining the Champs Elysee in Paris. They had dozens of macaron flavors to choose from, so my wife, our daughter and I took turns ordering 4 flavors, for a total of 12. The prices are quite reasonable for the quality and selection. The staff are experts in their craft; and, we enjoyed a nightly treat throughout our stay in the city. read more

They offer your typical macaron pastry in a variety of flavours as well as gourmet chocolates, bulk candy and I believe I saw kitschy things. Today I tried my first macaron here at Le Macaron. It. Was. Amazing!!!!! I came in with my grandmother and had such a difficult time choosing ONE macaron flavor. I finally settled on Madagascar Vanilla and as soon as I sank my teeth into the cookie I immediately knew I had to get more. I came back in and the lady behind the counter smiled knowingly on how good the macarons were. I purchased a box of 6 that cost $15. Yes, pretty pricey but SO worth it! The flavors I chose were Nutella, Colombian Coffee, Bubble gum, Rose, Strawberry Key Lime, and Salted Caramel. They are SO addictive and you can't just have one! I'd give it a zero stars if I could. SO BAD! Don't judge a macaron by this place! 15 dollars I will never eeeever get back lol. I ordered one of each: a macaron gelato sandwich, macaron, mango covered in chocolate and an eclair. The macaron gelato sandwich was SO hard, frost bit and tasted just Terrible. The raspberry macaron was by far the worst macaron I have ever had and was the best out of all the items I had (it at least tasted like the flavor- raspberry), the mango tasted awful and the texture was dry and rubbery- sooooo bad, finally the lemon eclair.... dry as a bone and once again NO taste. Very disappointed with these. My boyfriend and I love to try different macrons when we travel so we popped in when we saw this on st George street. Got a box of 6- WAYYYYY over priced for the quality of macaron. The middle part basically tastes like whipped cream and does not have that yummy slight chewiness to it. Waste of money for sure. Came in about 10:45 on a Friday, I was surprised they were still even open. I walked in with nobody at the counter but a young lady with brown hair in a ponytail came by about a minuter later. I said hey to her. No response. I thought then she might've not heard me. I said hey to her another two times without a response, yet she was waiting on me to say what I wanted to order. Interior colors in the shop mainly in pink and black, felt like I entered a Victoria's Secret's store selling macarons. They have sweets shaped like a lipstick. We all know that macarons are not going to be cheap anywhere. But I assume that's because they are hard to make. They had a good marengue fluff to them, airy and light, which is what this sweet treat is all about. The coconut, basil and rose flavored macarons were all good. The teenage looking employee was not friendly or helpful. When I asked her about prices she just pointed to a board like I was bothering her. A cute little shop off St George Street, Le Macaron serves fresh macarons. There's a variety of flavors and of the ones we tried I liked all of them. I really enjoyed the mango one! You can get 6 for $15 which is a nice amount for tasting. It's worth a stop! read more

The macarons here just weren't as good as the ones I've had at the Le Macaron location in The Avenues in Jacksonville. They were thicker too. I was quite disappointed. I tried a couple, including the pistachio, which I've had before in Jacksonville. They said their macarons are made in Miami. The St. George Street location, which is under the same ownership as the one on Cathedral Place, doesn't have many other French pastries, as the other locations I've been to do. Update: a Jacksonville location told me their macarons are made in Sarasota. This might explain the huge quality difference between the Le Macarons in the two cities. read more

Downtown St Augustine is all about unique sweet treats and Le Macaron fits right in. The store is bright and airy and the display case has a wide assortment of all types of chocolates and macaroons. My favorite being the "mini Eiffel Towers". I grabbed 6 macaroons to take to a friend of mine that travels frequently and she adored them. This cute little shop is nestled on St. George street (the larger store is on the main strip on Cathedral). I love the cute Parisian decor and love their macarons even more! I am so confused by the bad reviews as everything I tried was delicious and full of flavor! I got the Lavender White Chocolate and Pistachio flavors at the employee's recommendation and was pleasantly surprised! I also splurged on a creme brûlée truffle that was to die for. I am picky about my sweets and this place did not disappoint! Perhaps a little on the pricey side (this is true for pretty much anything in downtown St. Augustine - as a local I am used to this by now) but absolutely worth every bite. DO NOT GO HERE. The owner is a rude, arrogant jerk. He left a brand new employee alone on her first day of work. When we came in there was no one in the shop. We wanted a French pastry. Unfortunately there was only one prepared. The young lady who was there offered to bake us three fresh pastries. Awesome. As soon as we paid for the order about 15 customers walked in. She was overwhelmed. Of course the pastries she was cooking for us were overcooked and burnt while she was trying serve everyone. Since we had waited so long we simply asked for a refund. The young lady didn't know how to do a refund as it was her first day and she had been abandoned by the owner to fend for herself. She called him and said please come help me. He arrived in a few minutes and tried to say the pastries weren't burnt and we just didn't understand how French pastries are cooked. That's true, I'm not French but I can look at something and tell it's burnt. Especially since it was three shades darker than the one in the display case and all the chocolate had baked out onto the pan. Not to mention my girlfriend lived in France for 2 years and had true French pastries. When I tried to take them out o the bag to compare them he jerked the bag out of my hand and said don't touch these I will sell them to someone else. That's after putting his dirty hands all over them because he walked in off the street and didn't wash his hands before touching burnt food he was trying to sell me. After a heated exchange of him trying to belittle my girlfriend, speaking rudely to my girlfriend's 16 year old daughter(who left in tears) and me, we finally got a refund. At which point he said we should not come back to his shop. HAHAHAHA As if that was something I would actually consider. OMG the arrogance of this jerk. BTW.... I never had a macaroon before. I have been curious about them for a while, but only decided to try them today. They were surprisingly tasty, were softer than I imagined, and also had better flavors than I expected. I'm not an expert on pastries, let alone ones of foreign origins, but they seemed very pricey. $2.50 for one small treat? $15 for a box of six? Eight for just under $20? I think that's ridiculous. Even if they were amazing, the price for them is steep. I felt like I was paying more for the location and the interior design of the shop. read more

Went into this establishment today and purchased 8 macaroons. Total came to $30.45. I handed the employee a $100 bill and told her I'd give her $0.45 as well for even change. She proceeds to tell me she can't do that because she already rang it up in the computer. I stood there puzzled for a moment as the drawer was still open. I asked her why I couldn't give her change so I could get a bill back in return. She responds with, "My manager says we can't do that because the money in the drawer won't add up properly." Basic math. $100.45 - $30.45 = $70.00. I explained that the math was simple and that by me giving her additional change, all that needed to happen was that she would be giving me back all bills and that her money drawer would still total out correctly. I mean come on... It's not like the computer is smart enough to know someone gave four quarters versus a dollar bill, right? She was rude and told me she understood basic math. Apparently not. She even had the nerve to tell me I could call her manager to ask about the policy. Also, I looked on the website. They charged me the price of 12 macaroons for 8. Don't order hot chocolate here unless you want a bitter, drink that is sooooo hot you can't even drink it. I ordered for my three young children to take to go, the tops didn't fit so we had to sit inside. I took a sip to test the heat when I realized how bitter it was. I had the kids take a small sip to make sure... my 4 year old said it was disgusting. I told the cashier that it was not drinkable and she told me that she'd need to get in touch with the manager. She texted her manager who never responded. We were out more than $13 for hot, bitter water. It was terrible. This place deserves no stars. read more
