Sadly, our experience and food at Le Perche was such a disappointment. First off, we were seated at a table in the back that had a vent/grid on the ground underneath us, and soon it because clear from the smell that there was a decomposing dead animal under there. The stench was unbearable, so we asked to be moved. I thought the waitress would be apologetic, but she simply - and coldly - relocated us to another table further away. We ordered the egg sandwich and the croque madame and even though the food tasted okay, it came plopped up in a plate with no little toss salad next to it, not even a few leaves for a garnish. When I told the waitress "I am surprised it doesn't come with a little green on the side" she gave me a cold look and said I should have just ordered a salad too, then took off as I was asking her for the menu to order a salad. For $20, I expected more than a tiny slice of tough sourdough with a little bit of cheese and ham and a poorly cooked egg on top, without a single garnish for presentation. We will never go back to this pretentious place with rude staff and dead animals in the basement where it looks like they store their food. read more

Took a trip up to Hudson with my best friends and Le Perche was our first and best stop! Dora was such a great host! She helped us pick through their assortment of amazing pastries and we loved them all! All of the pastries we had were so delicious and the Kouign Amann is a must try!!! Been here for a delightful country breakfast, but also just hit them up for an after dinner treat to take on the train back to NYC and they were just closing up, so you'd think we'd be out of luck! Instead, they packed up all day's unsold muffins and croissants for no charge. Super sweet and we're super grateful. read more

The food could be a lot better. I had the scallops with turnips, which was just ok. Friend had the steak, which was a hanger steak - and just a poor, chewy cut. The appetizers were very carb heavy. Everything is apparently supposed to go on bread. The service was mediocre. We were pestered about drinks immediately upon sitting down. The waitress did not ask us if we had any questions about the menu, because as we found out, she could not answer our questions about the food. This is not the waitresses fault. She wasn't trained properly. In general, it is hard to find good and reliable waitstaff in Hudson. I would be more sympathetic to restaurants here, but they are responsible for the fact that there are no economic opportunities here attracting people to settle down. Hudson and other small towns in the HV are shrinking because there are no good paying jobs. Just check the school enrollment rates. All these fancy restaurants are going to be understaffed chronically because of this ongoing economic diaspora. read more

Warning........do not enter this location if you are dieting. What can I say? Almond and chocolate Croissants, macaroons, fruit tarts, and lots and lots of pastries. I stopped in for a bite around lunch time and sat at the bar. The place is nice and the staff are really nice. I ordered some rose they had on tap which was o.k. nothing special and he kale salad with some french fries. The kale salad looked promising when it arrived as it was really gorgeous, however, after one bite all I could taste was vinegar. This would be a great dish if they just balance out the oil/vinegar ratio. Unlike some people, I actually like the taste of kale but all I could taste was vinegar which was sad since it had toasted hazelnuts as well. The fries were so salty and incredibly oily. Yes I know they are fried in oil but don't they let them drain on pat them down a bit with a towel? Again, the salt overpowered any other flavors and there was supposed to be an herb flavor with them. Overall, it was just adequate nothing special. They do much better breakfast. read more

I have lunch at Le Perche on a busy Saturday afternoon in July, and it was wonderful! The food selection was a nice mix of expected, and surprising combinations. The escargot with soft polenta was incredible, and the Summer Vegitable Salade with Shrimp was excellent, and light. Each dish had unique flavors, each with a light touch. Service was excellent, and Chef John came out to say "Hello". Whole heartedly recommend Le Perche for Lunch or dinner. read more

Although the service was very slow due to understaffing on Memorial Day, the food was definitely worth the wait, especially the swordfish, which can be overcooked and dry, but was moist, tender and succulent. We have not been here since shortly after it was taken over by Swoon Kitchen, and had an overpriced and subpar meal, but we are glad we gave it another chance. We will definitely go again. read more

The menu on the door during the day wasn't the same as the actual dinner menu once we arrived. Lots of potential, but three stars for dinner because the only vegetarian option was gnocchi with mushrooms (or an omelette ...?). Not all people like mushrooms and vegetarians are people, ergo - not all vegetarians like mushrooms! Would be great to see more of the Monday night options throughout the weekend or maybe a savory crepe with cheese and vegetables. The desserts were delicious. read more

We really enjoyed our morning stop for a quick coffee and avocado toast, both of which were fresh and delicious. We appreciated the accessible outdoor seating with umbrellas overhead (although be mindful that certain sections do not offer full table service). The baked goods on display also looked great--just be warned that Le Perche can get crowded due to high demand! read more

So disappointed to write this review. We ate at Le Perche as a backup to Home Made across the street whose oven unfortunately went down over thanksgiving. We had great expectations of Le Perche based on a friend's recommendations but we left so underwhelmed. It actually put a damper on our day. My husband's father was celebrating his 60th birthday and we wanted a special brunch in Hudson (6 adults and two young children). First off, we have had their croissants. When they are fresh and warm out of the oven, they are really excellent. (On a previous trip last year, they tasted stale.) We ordered a bread basket for the table and it inexplicably took over an hour to reach our table and when it did it had no croissants but rather a torte, a bun and a small amount of table bread that was included for free in others' orders. They claimed to not have any more croissants but we saw plenty at the front counter afterwards! We also asked if they could bring the granola and yogurt out for my daughter quickly since she doesn't have the patience of an adult and this also took about an hour. It was a nice granola but why not add in some fruit for the price tag? What was most frustrating was how long the food took to reach the tabLe. It must have been about 1 hour 20 minutes and we are talking simple orders of eggs, people! Not to mention, they messed up our instructions to cook an egg through for a sandwich. The prices are high and in line with trendy Manhattan spots (coffee was arguably even more expensive). When my husband spoke to the waitress about the issues she seemed shocked to hear any criticism. The manager didn't handle it well and we have zero interest in returning now recommending Le Perche to anyone else.. thank god for Homemade in Hudson (so so much better tasting, better prices and innovative food). read more

The food was fantastic and our waitress was excellent and the ambience impeccable but I felt compelled to share our experience with others. The hostess at this restaurant could not have been worse. My daughter has been a hostess and I have worked in restaurants and with restaurants for over 20 years. My sister and I were taking my 85 year old father for brunch. He had a cane so his disability as well as his age was obvious. We looked up Le Perch to see if we could make reservations and it was not an option listed. When we showed up there were plenty of tables. And 2 parties ahead of us. The hostess took one party at a time to the dining room and was in no hurry whatsoever. She was upset with us for not making a reservation even though they only recently added that option and it was not reflected in the website. When she said she would look to see if there was a table, I followed her back as she began 'discussing' us with the manager. All I asked was to please let me know if she could not seat us so that we wouldn't wait any longer - if we were ultimately going to be turned away. The manager stepped in gracefully and said he would take care of us as the petulant hostess said out loud that she refused to seat us! Really? I would have let her go - on the spot - or put her in a position where she no longer interacts with the public. A hostess is critical to a restaurants success. The first person you meet and can make or break any situation. Looking out for elderly and or disabled. We also asked if we could eat at the tables in the cafe area and were given a hard no - only to go boxes. Again, if the restaurant were crowded - I understand - but knowing when and how to make accommodations is critical. read more

This is the best restaurant we went to during our stay. Staff was pleasant and the food was amazing. We had the omelette and the American breakfast. The breakfast potatoes were to die for. Coffee was good too. My biggest complaint is that people kept holding the front door open for too long, so those of us sitting at the bar kept getting blasted with frigid air. After booking a reservation for 3 for a Sunday birthday brunch in advance and confirming the reservation via text the morning of, we arrived at Le Perche (having heard stellar reviews) with high hopes. Unfortunately, we were met by an exceptionally rude and disgruntled hostess who told us she could not find my reservation. I immediately looked through my phone to make sure I hadn't booked the incorrect date or location by accident, but I had not. I showed her my confirmation text and was again met with "but I don't see you on MY list. You can sit at the bar & I might be able to seat you in 20 minutes." While I understand that technical difficulties arise when using booking apps, we were completely turned off by the hostess' attitude. If she had even remotely attempted to be helpful, apologized and asked us to wait politely, we would have understood. She was so incredibly unpleasant, that we almost left. We were only saved by two tiny tables opening up in the very drafty front of the restaurant that were pushed together. After we sat down, the hostess made a snide remark hinting that we must've booked at the wrong place. I felt officially gaslighted. I again pulled up the Resy confirmation and had my friends double check that I hadn't made a mistake. I walked up to the hostess stand and showed her the restaurant profile along with my reservation and asked her to confirm that I was looking at the proper place. She agreed it was the Le Perche page but retorted, "that's correct, but again you're not on MY list." This woman should not work in any kind of service industry. At least acknowlege that I have not made a mistake and that you will look into the issue with Resy. At that point, we were done with her, and the experience was only redeemed by Christina, our extremely friendly and accommodating waitress. She witnessed our interaction with the hostess brought out some pastries on the house to make up for it. I can't tell you enough how far her kindness went for our experience. That along with the delicious food would make me consider giving Le Perche another chance. I would however strongly recommend a friendlier front of the house. read more

I wish they had more photos of the venue because it is very charming. We arrived in good timing because the door kept swinging with more people trying to eat here. If you're just stopping by, I think it's a must. We got the crispy fish sandwich, the chicken salad, coffees and pastries. The crispy fish sandwich had a delicious sauce and the buns used weren't too heavy so it definitely complimented taste. When we asked for the coffee, our waitress was pulled in different directions and it took her a bit longer to the coffee to us. Without even asking, she graciously took those off the check. I discovered that this cafe is under new ownership. That was my first disappointment. The interior has been updated a bit and the bakery portion no longer has those lovely showcases. The menu has changed a bit and there is new wait staff. What made the original cafe special was the decor, bakery cases and delicious food. The staff was also more attentive. Wonderful French restaurant for brunch and dinner! The avocado toast for brunch was beautiful with flowers and spices that really enhance the fish. The coffee was flavorful and perfect. I was so excited for Le Perche - this is my third visit and John Carr has turned me into a mackerel fan! Everything is absolutely perfect. Fresh, exciting, executed with perfection. Small plates, larger plates for any palate, including those with celiac. The homemade bread (sadly not gluten free) turns you into a believer. An exceptional wine list and interesting cocktails. Strange experience. It's Monday? For approximately 20 guests there were three people working front of house and at least two people in the kitchen. Pros: Pretty space; host who seated us was friendly. Cons: it took us 15 minutes to get a drink order in, which is ok but a bit of a buzz kill in an emptyish restaurant. Weirder part was ordering our food -- a margarita pizza (which revealed itself 45 minutes later to be a dry toasted piece of bread with marinara and cheese) and olives. 30 minutes in I ask is we can have the olives ahead of the pizza, and I'm informed the olives are cooking. Then they arrive room temperature, which is curious, given that they've been "cooking" for 45 minutes or something? We ask if they could be warm, and they return to us seemingly microwaved. Other guests seemed to be having a more trying time -- one woman with two young boys seated next to us checked on her order 30 minutes in to find it quoted as arriving "probably 30 minutes" from that point. A group of four who seemed to know the manager or proprietor looked speechless almost an hour after ordering when the server remarked 10 minutes after they checked on "just getting the olives" that she had now placed the order for the olives? They were polite but incredulous. Our server was friendly but seemed to lack the awareness this was weird. I was directed to order sparking wine because apparently the other white and rose wine was warm? I don't know why it was warm. The sparkling was nice. After some back and forth the server was like uh no cold beer available on tap, at which point my husband ends up with an Amstel Lite which is lame in a region with good local beer. read more

One word - Holy f'ing crap! This place is insane. Came for breakfast while on a driving trip through the Hudson Valley. So glad we picked this place. Absolutely delicious craft coffee. Phenomenal shakshuka eggs (how do they get the sauce that delicious and how the hell did they know that dill would be the perfect complement to it). And honestly the best chocolate croissant we've had just about anywhere - and that includes France. Someone here is a baker and they know why they're doing. Do. Not. Miss this place. read more

Apparently making a sandwich is close to brain surgery. Untrimmed fatty roast beef. When asked to cut sandwich in half, which is how it should come, it was sent out with a knife apparently by a wise ass in the kitchen, so I could try to cut it on the plate rather than a cutting board . What would have been a 5 star experience was ruined by the noise coming from the kitchen. There is no door on the kitchen which is directly next to the dining room. We were hoping to have a romantic dinner but we were so distracted by the loud conversations, banging of pots and pans, etc. coming from the kitchen - we literally felt like we were dining in the kitchen. With the food prices as high as they are - entrees starting at $28, the ambiance needs to match. Our food and drinks were delicious, the space looked beautiful with candles everywhere it is a shame that the owners decided not to put a door on an area that should be blocked from guests eyes and ears. read more

I've been to Le Perche a number of times before and I've never had any problems. In fact, I have enjoyed it. Today was much different. We got there about 10:45 am and requested a table for four. The hostess said that it would be about a 45 minute wait so she took her name and number and said she would call. After an hour went by and we received no call we went back and were told that "things got rearranged" and a party of 13 newly entered the picture and it would therefore be at least an additional 20 minutes if we wanted a table. I'm not sure what things got rearranged but the least they could've done was call and let us know that there was going to be a further delay rather than making us wait for an hour only to be told that our reservation had been lost. There was no apology or further explanation just a "take it or leave it" blank stare. There are lots of other options in Hudson including Tanzy right across the street and Cascade down the block which we happily went to and enjoyed. The staff at these 2 alternatives are pleasant, accommodating and considerate and the food is very good to boot! I will not be back to Le Perche any time soon. read more

Just what we wanted for lunch. The gougères were delicious puffs of cheesy air; the endive salad was perfectly dressed and generously scattered with walnuts and blue cheese; the Brussels sprouts were roasted to delectability and in a savory sauce I wanted more of. read more

The four of us went 2 mornings in a row for breakfast. The staff and service is wonderful. The food is so good and the breads and croissants were just like Paris!!! They had bacon like we have never tasted before. We were seated by a window and watched as they brought tray after tray of croissants and fresh bread from their bakery building in the back. Everything was very clean. We can't wait to go back and wished they shipped to New Jersey! read more
