I've been coming here with my parents since I was a kid, and the owners are really friendly. They've got daily specials A-K for easy ordering (usually it's Pork, Beef, Pork Feet, Fish, Pork Chop, Tofu, etc.), and if you dine-in, these specials come with soup! My all-time favorite is their Steamed Pork Chitterlings. Literally the best in town!! I think this place has a very authentic Taiwanese taste. Can I give 3.5 stars? I think they are in-between 3-4 but the owners were really nice so I'll give them a 4. This place doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. It's a very local feeling Taiwanese restaurant. I just went for the first time yesterday. It seemed like there were a lot of regulars that the owners knew. The price for a combo or rice/noodle dish was around $7. There's nothing fancy about this place and definitely no ambience or anything but if you want some quick local Taiwanese food this is a good spot to go to. I went with a big group and of course we ordered family style cause well, that's what Asians do. My favorite dish was the legendary pigs feet, super succulent tender meat that just falls off the bone. The oyster pancake was cooked just right and was not too heavy. The fried pork chops and fried chicken had a batter that was not too oily, but packed with crunchiness and flavor. If you're feeling brave, order the stinky tofu. And don't worry if you'll be judged cause you're surrounded by Asians. The place is a little small but we definitely felt like royalty with the excellent service. The flavoring and everything is off, of what I ordered today: Sticky Tofu is way over-fried and way too tough, and the side-dish Taiwanese preserves cabbage is not the right taste. The fried chicken drumstick rice plate, seriously, looked like it's made from left over chicken parts. The intestines noodle is totally not NOT how it suppose to look or taste. The squid noodle soup is also waayyyyy off the mark. The service is non existent and the place looks totally run down. .....so disappointed at so many levels. Now You've been warned. Was in the area and thought that I do some research before getting myself some authentic Taiwanese food... so the closest one to me at the moment was Lee's Garden which had a 4 star rating here on yelp, therefore, I've decided to give it a try. The parking lot was small so finding a spot can be tough a times. The establishment is placed in the back of a gas station / supermarket so it can be hard to find if you don't look hard. The restaurant is super small and slightly dirty like mentioned, but knowing how good tasting Taiwanese can be, this is not much of an issue for me. Gave two things a try here.... Stinky Tofu...It's slightly got the smell of the Taiwan version, but still off by a bit.. however, having able to smell the stinkiness really brings back memories... The Taiwanese kimchee that accompanied the tofu was actually pretty good! So a good pick since I have not had this stinky treat in quite a while. Oyster Omelet... saw great reviews on the oyster omelet here and simply had to give it a try... however, the omelet was slightly overcooked as the egg looked a little burnt and sauce was much sweeter than I thought it should. It's not one of the best but it's decent. Owner of the store was really really nice. When the tofu came out he recommended to have them on the spot because it's still crunchy and hot and that 's the best time to eat it... simply attentive and just a nice person overall so it's very enjoyable to be served by him. Food is mediocre, but will definitely give the pork chop rice a try next time and see what the rave is about... OH MY GODDDDD. Eating at Lee's Garden was an absolutely amazing experience. I LOVE visiting taiwan, and i love eating taiwanese food. However, aren't very many places around Westwood that have the dishes I like. When I found out that Lee's Garden has taiwanese staples like oiamiswa and stinky tofu i almost died. We came here at 8:00 and the place was almost completely empty. don't be put off by the appearance. The place doesn't look that great, but the food is AMAZING. Oiamiswa - 4 stars. This oiamiswa definitely hit the spot. However, it wasn't like the oiamiswa from taiwain that i miss so dearly. It's the only i've had outside of taiwan though, so it will suffice. Pigs feet special - 5 stars. This dish was so worth it! I mean it was only $5, and it came with so many delicious pieces of pig feet, gelatinous skin, and delicious marrow. The pigs feet was served on rice and came with tofu, some veggies, and soup. YUM Stinky tofu - 5 stars. The tofu wasn't as pungent as tofu from taiwan, which was good for me because stinky tofu from taiwan is a little intimidating. We also ordered the combo fried rice, which was delicious but not exceptional, and the oyster pancake, which was good but again, not my favorite. I will DEFINITELY come back to Lee'x garden sometime in the near future to get my taiwanese food fix, and i recommend everybody else to do the same. read more

We eat lees garden virtually every 2-3 days. Since we work just 2 blocks away, it serves as a good to go place. Kinds of Food - Their fried chicken rice is out of this world. The batter is ridiculously good, give it a shot, you won't be disappointed. They also have A,B,C Combos which change everyday, but I usually eat all of em' anyway. Definitely not a place to take your date, lots of old loud taiwanese dudes inside at times, just the way it should be, that's definitely how it's always been growing up in a Taiwanese Family. It's kind of like when you go into a canto cell phone store and you see canto dudes talk REAL loud, but that's just normal, like a canto seafood dim sum joint. The owner is cool guy. Hands down, BEST PORK CHOP OVER RICE you can get: that is the one and only entree I order here since I was a little kid. After 15 years of trying other restaurants, nothing even comes close! It never dissappoints. They also have daily combo specials, and other Taiwanese small bites which are really popular. Definitely drop by for a quick lunch/dinner if you're in the area. I miss Lee's Garden! It was my favorite place to eat when I lived in South Pasadena. I would sometimes eat there five days a week for lunch. I always order the same thing: the daily combination plate. What's most fun about the combo plate is that the vegetable sides change every single day and you never know what you are going to get. This works because the sides are almost always great! I usually opt for pork as my entree, the pork option changes every day also. The plate is $7 and you can come in and just grab it and go. This was many years ago experience, I wanted to give this restaurant a try, but decided to walk out. The restaurant all of a sudden had a heavy bad smell (stunk) fried stunk tofus serve with preserve vegetables served to a table of customers. Good home-made tasting food is hard to come by these days, even in the SGV area. I was pleasantly surprised when I accidentally found this restaurant last Saturday. I was going to Starbucks nearby to order some coffee, while short on time, I needed to pick up some lunch to go. I found this little restaurant in the same parking lot as Starbucks. I ordered two lunch combos: Braised Tofu (vegetarian, but not Buddhist Vegetarian) combo for me and Pork and preserved Veg Combo for my dad. We both enjoyed our combos very much- I noticed right away the food tasted fresh, not oily and definitely not too salty. I really miss the home made taste and I was happy to find it at unexpected place... and, Taiwanese food is not as common in SGV these days. The price is reasonable, both combos cost about $15 total including tax. I really liked the vegetarian friendly sides in the combo: pickled mustard, sauteed zucchini, brown soysauce egg... reminds me of my mom's cooking :''( While waiting for the food, I ran into 2 regular patrons, they told me the owner has been there for 30 years. That's pretty incredible! Hope they stay around for a while! I saw some crave worthy Taiwanese dishes - oyster egg omelet, stinky tofu, pork chop rice, oyster noodle soup, squid stew... The service is great, my food was ready in less than 10 minutes and they gave very generous portions. I had the stewed beef ($5.95), I didn't get anything else because I wanted to try it out first. Love eating here. My family has been coming here for countless years and the food remains delicious, authentic, and consistent. My father NEVER agrees to eat out. But at Lee's he has no problem eating here multiple times per week. It doesn't get any closer to Taiwanese food than this joint. For those of you complaining about not understanding the system, open your mouth and ask about the menu. The owner speaks English well enough to explain the menu. Besides it's not too hard to figure out. A is pork, B is beef, C is chicken, D is pig's feet.... Tip to those who can't read Chinese like me. Go for the K. It's got all the goodies and is a good intro to what Lee's has to offer for the first time visitor. I've brought countless non-Asian friends and coworkers here and so far all but 1 has enjoyed the food here. (18 / 19 is a pretty good success rate.) read more

Lee's Garden has EXCEPTIONAL, super authetic Taiwanese food!! As Taiwanese as you can wish for, outside of Taiwan. I love all the sides that come with the cheap combos. There are rotating daily combo specials so on any given day when you walk in, there is a different set of combo plates available. The owner is always working at the register, and is efficient and very polite. Free parking in the plaza they're located in. Convenient Chinese market a few feet away, too. the first time i came here, i ordered the wrong thing. Husband has been wanting to come here because of the good reviews. So, when we came here the first time, he knew right away what to order. Me on the other hand, I was craving wonton noodle from noodle cafe. So, naturally, i ordered the wonton noodle here... and believe me, it's not what you want to order from here. It was bland and ordinary... =( While I was staring at my bland and ordinary noodle, husband was enjoying his dish greatly... He ordered what looks like sliced fatty pork with rice, and it looks like every other table has it too... He kept saying how good it was and how much it tasted like "home"... I had a bite, and it was pretty good, but husband and I had different description of "home" sooo... I went home sad and ready with a two stars.... So, why the four stars? Because I believe that I should try everything at least twice... because the first one may not be good.... We went here again yesterday for lunch. This time, I asked husband to order for me... He ordered me the sausage rice while he tried the pork knuckles.... He again enjoyed his dish, and I approached my sausage rice with caution... Hmmm... it was actually pretty good... Mr. Lee is the best and the nicest guy. Although everything is in Chinese on the menu (on the wall), he'll explain it to you if you don't speak Mandarin or Taiwanese. Their lunch/dinner specials are perfect for an individual. His wife, Mrs. Lee, is the in chef in the kitchen and she's also super nice. Their stinky tofu is really good, served with the preserved vegetables and sauce. The stewed tofu is also really good. I always ask for a box to take out. Every so often, he'll mix things up with whatever is fresh in the market. I'd tell you what to order, but I always get something different every time. That includes the Pork Chop, Fried Chicken Rice, Oyster Pankcake, Pork Foot, A-Cai. Their chili oil sauce for the stewed tofu is really something. I crave it thinking about it. Wow this is the definition of hole in a wall. Without Yelp I would have never found this place on my own. It's situated in such a sketchy plaza and the place is tiny. They don't have physical menus for you to take because they write up the menu on the dry erase board depending on what dishes they have for the day. We tried the Pork Chop Rice, the Beef Chow Mein, the oyster pancakes, and asked what vegetables they had for the day. The owner mentioned Yam Leaves and I had to get some. All of the dishes tasted very authentic (the hubs and I are both born and raised in Taiwan so this definitely hit the spot) and the veggie was especially tasty. We found the pork chop batter to be thin enough and not so sweet like most of the other places in SGV. I know it's a matter of personal taste preference but we don't like our pork chops sweet so this is great for us. With so many similar places in the area, it's great to see this place stays in business after all these years. Personally this is closest to the taste that we prefer so we probably will come back to try out other dishes in the future. read more

Alright, I never write reviews, but noticing all the one stars I have something to say. This isn't a 5 star restaurant people. I'll tell you that right now. Everything is old, and simple. Nothing fancy about the place. You don't really get any service besides when you ordered. But those of you that has traveled to the Asian countries know that this place has that atmosphere you don't get at other restaurants. It gives you that Asian culture vibe. The food is authentic! That's all I need honestly sometimes. I don't need plasma TV's to enjoy my food. I don't need a host to seat me down. I just want good simple taiwanese food and this place has it! With a health code rating of B, the food and the simple atmosphere makes it a 4 star dining. This restaurant has been around for 27 years, and though I drove by it a many times, this was the first time trying it because of other Yelp reviewers touting the "best fried pork rice" outside of Taiwan was served here. For me, that honor goes to a nearby restaurant, but the fried pork rice here at Lee's Garden was darn good - not overly fried, overly oily, and a nice mix of sides (greens, potato and pickled radish, stewed egg and tofu). I like another place's fried pork rice simply because their side included a spicy, jalapeno mixture and I like spicy food. But this in no way is saying that Lee's fried pork rice is bad, because it certainly is NOT bad. It's good. We also ordered the stinky tofu, which smelled stinkily delicious, and the Taiwanese style noodle soup (which is just a mixture of meats with bean sprouts and noodles). There were lots of people that came in while we were eating, and they came in and picked up the lunch special. They have a large daily selection (choice A through J) and all for under $7.00. This is definitely a hole in the wall place for good comfort Taiwanese food. All I've gotten every time I come here is R6 which is fried chicken leg with rice. It's cheap and huge portions. oh my goodness, it is so good I dream about it. I don't even think any of my friends know the real name of this place. Lee's Garden is the OG Taiwanese spot to grab comfort Taiwanese cuisines either there or to go. I usually come here to eat cause I think the food just taste better when you eat it there. We usually get at least one of the combo items ranging from fried chicken or pigs feet. Each combo comes with rice and 3 small dishes ranging from string beans, eggs and tomatoes and pork or something. It changes on the daily. I really like the stinky tofu here as well. The stink is enough to make the place stuffy, yet tastes great! I've also had the oyster omlette here as well. The amount they put in is pretty well balanced with the sauce and egg. Overall this place is worth trying and definately brings back good memories of being in Tapei and eating comfort food. read more

The Taiwanese food here is decent. DO NOT come here for the service or ambiance though. It's a small, dingy hole in the wall. Our combination lunches were served on styrofoam trays (NYC public school style). You get up to pour your own tea into styrofoam cups. We had to get the combos because the owner said we couldn't order anything else. I was disappointed because I had wanted to try the pork chop on rice. I don't think it was on that one board he said we could order from?, but I also felt rushed because the owner looked pissed that I was thinking about what to get (sorry, I know you want to get back on the phone to keep talking about Jeremy Lin) ::rolls eyes:: It helps a lot if you know how to read some Chinese because otherwise there are only vague "beef" or "chicken" annotations on the whiteboards. The fried chicken was great. Crispy and very flavorful. The hong shao niu rou (beef) wasn't very good. Definitely wasn't fresh, was dry, and came cold. The soup came cold too. The (I think braised) chicken wasn't hot either. It wasn't great; didn't have enough flavor so I passed it on to the bf. The stinky tofu was good, but could have been a lot more pungent. Would I come back? Maybe, maybe not. Honestly I think the prices are a tad high considering the small-ish portions and lack of amenities. I might come back to try the pork chop on rice, if it's even available, but I might not to avoid the crabby owner. He acts like it's an inconvenience to take your order! I came back to try their bento boxes. I got the A set. I wish they had pictorials on each of their bento boxes so I could see what my options are. But if you speak Chinese you'll have no problem with their description. I just got the first one, the A set and it was pretty amazing. It's English description is Pork. It was a shredded pork simmered in a soy sauce base w preserved vegetables. (May Tsai). The sides were a tofu and celery mix, fried egg, and sliced and simmered squash or cucumber. It was very Simple and tasted like a home cooked meal. Totally reminded me of Taiwan and my moms cooking. It came out super fast too and just the right amount of food.
