Hello my Yelpies, Where do I even begin with this!!! If I can live here I would. Parking here can be a little difficult due to it being next to a coin laundry, but majority of the time it's not too difficult for me to find parking. I can say that I'm addicted to this place. What I love the most about this place is because of how authentic their food are. If you are looking for authentic Taiwanese food this is the place you go. I just wish I discovered this earlier in life so I could have more time to enjoy it. They have all different kind of Taiwanese dish. From beef noodle to stinky tofu to delicious rice plates. But my favorite will be their daily combo. I always get either A, B or C. And for $7.50 you can't ask for more. It comes with 3-4 side dishes which contains eggs, veggie and an extra something different everyday along with your favorite protein. I would suggest everyone to eat there because you get a side of soup along with your delicious meal. I've been coming here pretty much every single day because I hate thinking about what to eat. I am so happy that now I don't need to stress about what to eat. The owners are so friendly, I feel like I'm at home. Their food taste like what my mum used to cook and it just brings back the feeling of being home. I honestly can't ask for anything more. Overall, if I can give it a 10 stars I would! Its certainly not the best, but for the price and the taste. It really remind me of eating at the local restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan. You walked in, look up at the white board for today's special. They have around 10 different entrees for you to choose from (Fish, Pork, Chicken, Beef, Veggies, you name it) along with 3 sides that they pick for you. It also comes with an stewed egg, served on a plastic plate with rice and soup. So traditional Taiwanese style luncheon place. I know people rave for Class 302, Shinbala, or New Year Deli but none of those resembles of what traditional Taiwanese food are like (at least traditional Taiwanese lunch meal). Boiling pot is close to it, but the taste changed drastically since they changed the owner. The taste is very very authentic here, perhaps one of the most authentic places around the area and its very cheap ($5.50 - 5.95), can't be beat On a side note, while I was eating, The owner and owner's wife in the kitchen were having some minor arguments in front of the customers. You don't see this very often here, but it really reminds me of the childhood memories back in Taiwan days. How many of those so called Taiwanese deli/restaurants in the area are really run/cooked by Taiwanese (not from Mainland) Chefs? I had a braised pork w/bamboo on rice, stinky tofu, seaweed and my daughter had a braised pork on rice. We came here mainly for the stinky tofu, which is not bad. Had a good stink, crunchy, and soft on the inside. I wouldn't say its authentic, but, it's the best I had vs. other Taiwanese joints. Braised pork is good, flavor not over powering, goes really well w/the rice and the bamboo shoots. Overall, good place to get cheap seats. Will definitely return. And BTW, CASH ONLY! read more

This place is an awesome Taiwanese restaurant for "one-man-band" diners, working people in a rush, and even small families. It is really a hole in the walll type place, but they cook fast and come up with very, very home-y tasting food. Basically, they remind me of my mom's cooking ( only my mom's is better.. ;D ). I've been coming here for years and its always pretty consistently good. I have never ordered off the a la carte menu, but they have a old whiteboard that lists combo dinners from A----F? Most of the items rotate on a daily basis but the letters always correlate to a certain main dish ( "F" is for fish he said but one day it might be fried and the next steamed?) and if you can't read chinese you gotta ask the owner to translate. Their combos always come with 2-3 different side dishes, rice, sometimes a fried egg, and the main entree. So far I've tried * pork feet-tasty with the exception of a few pig hairs I had to pluck out.... * deep fried whole fish- this is delicious..crispy, crunchy, juicy but packs a ton of bones.. * cooked white pork meat with garlic-soy sauce- they make it close to perfect..I don't get grossed out by the thick slab of fat at the end of each piece of meat.. I think because its not chewy and hard like regular fat. Overall, this is really a simple, tasty place for a quick bite..not a high end place by any means. Their daily combo bento comes with different side dishes almost every day, unlike other places that serve the same side dishes every time. Their bentos always hits the spot. The shrimp fried rice is good too. The pork belly rice is always satisfying as well.

Customer service: Needs major improvement. I called to make take out order and I spoke in Mandarin w the owner (his native language). When I asked how big a dish portion was so I can get an idea if I need to order another dish, he said to me "What kind of question is that?" Mind you it wasn't in a nice tone of voice either. I should have just not ordered at all. I am a brand new customer to eating at this establishment so I have no idea if the food is even worth ordering. And he never told me when my order would be ready and just hung up after I made my order. Food: I ordered oyster omelet - that was just ok. The sauce that usually comes w this dish tasted funny. If you are Taiwanese, you know this dish always come w the sweet n spicy red sauce. Well the sauce I got tasted more like Canned marinara sauce. Totally throws the dish off. I also ordered Ba wan - that came w the same marinara tomato sauce and tasted horrible and was $4 for a small ba wan. The last thing I ordered was - Meat thick soup (Ma gee) and all I smelled was vinegar. Tons of it and the meat tasted old. You can taste the funkiness of the meat. What a huge disappointment. One of my favorite places for take-out because it is fast, easy, and convenient for home-cooked "comfort" food. They have an extensive menu but I can't comment on it because we always get the daily special combos. The combos come with your choice of protein, rice, and three sides of the day. The also provide soup and hot tea if you dine in. The sides are usually veggies, eggs, or chicken items. I'm not The couple that runs the shop is very nice. A convenient little spot! I sometimes crave for Taiwanese food, and Lee's Garden gives me the quick fix! Your order and pay at the cashier first, then you wait for you food. Tried three different bentos, oyster pancake, oyster and intestines rice noodle, and stinky tofu. All were not very Taiwanese at all. The stinky tofu was a bit hard. The sides in the bento were not good, and the sausages in the sausage bento were not even sliced! The oyster noodles had white rice noodles not the typical brown ones. Really poor value at $10! One star For owners horrible attitude. I called in at 11:15a to place an order. I arrived to the restaurant at 11:23am to let him know I'm here to pick up the phone order for the chicken leg rice. He mumbled "you got here so quickly.." then proceeds to tell his kitchen staff "one chicken leg rice". At 11:35am, I asked him how much longer (as I'm in a rush) and he replies it usually takes 20 minutes so i should have called ahead of time... I responded and told him that I did call at 11:15am. Blown away right now, most authentic Chinese food I've had outside of Asia. I ordered the Hongshao Beef combo and with the first bite I was immediately entranced by the taste. The juicy beef (and everything else on my plate) was so excellent that I felt like I was in Taipei for a moment. We went to this place because of great yelp reviews on fried pork chops and stinky tofu. We ordered both dishes plus fried chicken over rice. This tiny joint was crowded with Mandarin speaking customers. The owner/manager spoke to us in Mandarin and pointed at the wall. I didn't really understand but he probably told us to see the menu on the wall. The stinky tofu came first. It was not bad but not as good as Ding's garden. I wish the tofu was spongier and crispier. Pork chops over rice was served five minutes before fried chicken over rice. The pork chops looked weird at first with white batter that looked like frozen batter. That white batter was the best part! It was good but not as good as Pearl's pork chops. Fried chicken was alright too. Get your own hot tea near the menu wall. 3 stars!! Ever since I found Lee's Garden a couple months ago, this place has became one of my favorite to-go place. It is very convenient to pick up dinner here on my way to home when I don't feel like cooking. I usually order their combination plates which come with main dish, vegetables, two other side dishes, and rice. If you eat-in, you would get a cup of soup, but for take out order, you have to order it separately. I enjoy their pork with garlic sauce, fried chicken, and noodles. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with their pork chops, though. It was very dry and thin almost no meat to eat. It was like chewing the tasteless cardboard. Perhaps it was just on that day, but I haven't dared to try the dish again, yet. It is usually not crowded when I stop by mostly around 5:00 which is great so that I can pick up foods fast and go. The gentleman who is in the front ( maybe the owner? ) kind of reminds me of my relatives although he is not Japanese. Lee's Garden has, by far, the best Taiwanese food I have ever eaten. Lee's Garden is located in the city of Alhambra, where there are plenty of other Chinese restaurants around. So saying that Lee's Garden has the best Taiwanese food may seem like a bold statement, but the fact that it still exists today, after 20+ years in an area full of Asian restaurants, is truly a testament to how good the food is. Lee's Garden has various combination orders that come with soup and even some night market dishes. My favorite menu items are their Chao Fan (fried rice), Pai Gu (pork chop), O-A-Chian, which is pretty much an oyster omelet made with eggs, oysters, tapioca starch, and Garland chrysanthemum leaves. It has a soft, sticky texture, and is eaten with a sweet and mildly spicy sauce, topped with cilantro. This dish is very common in night markets as it is the most popular snack in Taiwan. I also like their Chou Doufu (stinky tofu) as well as their fried chicken. The price is cheap and the food is excellent. This is definitely one of those "hole-in-the-wall" restaurants that serves food that tastes like it came straight from Taiwan. The atmosphere is excellent too. Once you sit down and eat you almost feel as if you are sitting in a small restaurant in Taiwan. The place may be a little grungy but the food is definitely worth it. read more

"Some like it hot, some like it not..." This place is hot. As in, no air conditioning in a cement garage with dingy walls and a disgusting smell. I like it not. I'm all for the ghetto Chinese places because it reminds me of Hong Kong when I visited and I would eat on little kid's stools and cockroaches on the floor. But, at least the food was good then. Lee's Garden must be some Contrarian's idea of a Chinese restaurant. It's like they have gone out of their way to say, "Yes, we're ghetto and yes, we're proud." It smells funny and this has to be the first time in my life that I have eaten at a "C" grade restaurant. They serve water in these little dinky styrofoam cups too... yech. Good thing I didn't go to the bathroom like Sam Y did because I might have just walked out... I order their version of spicy beef noodles. Like other reviewers noted, it did come out fast. Faster than it should have, if you know what I mean. Spicy Beef Noodles Dissection: Noodles: not handmade. Those yellow egg noodles. It's alright... Beef: What beef? There was like no beef in there! And tendon! Where is that? The beef had this gosh awful texture to it. Soup: It's milky!!!! Milky!!! Soup should never be milky or frothy. That means it was cooked funny with sediments or something. I also found it weird that this milky browness seemed to be separate from the soup like a cup of oil & water. EWWWWWW... I ate 1/3 of it to be nice. I paid for it later as I had a stomach ache later on. Ron Weasley had fried chicken something or other. I didn't recognize any of the chicken shapes. Yes, that's what I will call them. Chicken shapes or lumps because you can't even tell what part they are. There was oyster pancake too but I'm not going to judge that because I don't even like oyster pancake. To me, oysters should always be raw, served in the half shell, small (like Kumamoto oysters), very chilled, and served at a 4 star restaurant or better. mmmmmmmm I'm tempted to give this place 1-star but then I'll really be known as the butcher, as in butcher of restaurants that are "not so good." They get an extra star for trying and for being next to one of the best looking Starbucks I have seen. That Starbucks has so many different type of seating: regular circle tables/chairs, stool seating, couch seating, couch/table seating for long term studying, and couch poofs. BEST FRIED RICE EVER. I always get the combination fried rice and a side of fried tofu. There are also many other good dishes (such as the daily specials) but I absolutely LOVE their fried rice. I have been coming here since as long as I could remember (I'm now 24), and this place still serves the same awesome Taiwanese food. I currently live in NYC but whenever I fly home to California, this is my first stop for food even before In-N-Out. Having lived in LA, Chicago, and now NYC... I can honestly say that this is my favorite Taiwanese restaurant in the United States because 1) the food is amazing/authentic and 2) the owners have been the same for 20+ years, so you really get that "mom and pop" type experience. If you're a fellow Taiwanese in the LA area and you're looking for an authentic TW restaurant, this is THE place for you since they serve oyster pancake (pronounced "oh-ah-jien"), fried pork chop ("pai gu"), and stinky tofu. Wasn't sure what to expect since folks on Yelp had mixed reviews. I really like the fried stinky tofu here. It is very crispy, got the right amount of odor, and the taste was spot on. I got the pork chop noodle but the pork chop wasn't too much to rave about. There wasn't enough meat but it was at least tasty. My wife got the combination plate and I think it was a bit overpriced for a combo plate. Usually we go to Kang Kang for that style and it is at least $2 less. I would like to try the chitterling noodle soup the next time but I'll definitely come back for the tofu. The owner was pretty cool too, gave us a bit of the history of his restaurant and suggested a few things for us to try. Parking can be kind of difficult at this plaza. read more

I've been coming here for their Chicken Leg Rice for about 10 years now. It's simply the best Chicken Leg Rice I've yet to find in Cali. It's always fried perfectly, leaving a nice crunch on the outside with a juicy inside. And the seasoning is just right. It also comes with some vegetable, a piece of tofu, a hard boiled egg, and this potato...thing. All quite good. Trust me. Chicken. Leg. Rice. If I was basing this on the Chicken Leg Rice along, it would be 5 stars. Easily. Now, I'm not saying the other things are no good. The other items that I've had are just average. Admittedly, I've not tried too many of their other things because when I come here, I go straight for the chicken. It really is that good. If you're wondering, I only remember 2 other things I've had here. The pork-chop rice and the oyster pancake. And yes, these are the two items that were just average. I do assume that the things I've not tried are decent. I mean, if you come here during lunch, you'll notice the place is filled with an older Chinese crowd. Generally, that's a good sign that the food is 1) authentic, 2) cheap, and 3) good. Why? Simple. Older Chinese people like their Chinese food: 1) authentic, 2) CHEAP, and 3) good. This is truly a hidden gem that has been open since 1984! The owner is super friendly and helpful. He speaks English very well and is willing to explain everything on the menu. The menu is written on white boards on the wall. They have combination specials as well that come with different sides that changes each day. Today I got the "K special" which had fried pork chop and stewed beef with tofu. It also came with spinach, tomato and egg, cabbage with bacon. Everything was delicious! It was a perfect amount of food that had great flavoring. The friend pork chop was made of fluffy breading and was perfectly fried. You also get a bowl of soup with daikon which went perfectly with the meal. Drinks are self served, you can get your own hot tea or you can get cold drinks like chrysanthemum tea, herbal tea, sugar cane tea or sodas from the refrigerator. I remember frequenting this place throughout elementary, middle and high school and I came back to recently to give it a try. Seeing how it has been open for so many years, I thought the quality would still be on point. Man was I disappointed. Prices have gone up but that's understandable as prices have risen everywhere. But taste was just whatever. One of the worst things I experienced was using their plastic utensils. My mom went to grab a few spoons & forks before our food arrived. I saw 2 spoons and they were a little oily. I joked around and asked my mom if she had used the spoon already but of course she hadn't since we didn't even get our food. So oily spoon only means .... recycled? NASTY. I understand it's a "hole in the wall" and may be dingy but recycling plastic spoons is way out of line. That was my last time going there. read more

I Love this Place, I've been going here since I can remember like 5, and I'm 26 now and I still come back. Yes this place looks dirty and is very small, but it is very delicious and it is a family owned business that has stood around the test of time! I always see the owner reading his newspaper and he'll get up when a customer comes in. But how awesome is that, loyal customers still come back everyday to eat at this taiwanese food place and i've been coming back loyally for the past 20 years and without my mom (now that I'm older) My husband who's white loves to order the "H" special everytime he comes in, their garlic sauce and the meat is amazing! and its always a nice surprise to see what the 3 side dishes are for the day. He also loves getting the stinky tofu, but to me their stinky tofu is way too strong for my taste, I like it less stinky. I love there rice dish with chicken and mushroom with oyster sauce and veggies. I also love there Oyster thin noodles. I'm not a big meat eater and I HATE going to places that are hole in the walls and dirty, but this place I just love it, i keep coming back! Its so good, I got my cousin and his girlfriend to try it and now they go back all the time and get there Spicy Beef Noodle, his gf seems to love it here the best! and my cousin loves to get their rice bowl with minced meat and an egg. They've got daily specials A-K for easy ordering (usually it's Pork, Beef, Pork Feet, Fish, Pork Chop, Tofu, etc.), and if you dine-in, these specials come with soup! The best Taiwanese food i've had outside of Taiwan (I attended the University of Taiwan in Taipei). I moved to LA recently and dropped by here when I was visiting my buddy in Monterey Park. The menu is pretty extensive and I decided to try the San Bei Ji (3 cup cup chicken) with a side of chou dou fu. Ok.. it is not quite as good as the real thing in Taiwan.. but pretty darn close. The price for a combo or rice/noodle dish was around $7. There's nothing fancy about this place and definitely no ambience or anything but if you want some quick local Taiwanese food this is a good spot to go to.
