I didn't do much research on the menu but I figured that The Clay Pot rice looked really good so I had to come over here and check it out. . My mama likes eel Clay Pot rice the most but we did not see that on the menu. We ended up ordering the Chinese Spirits with black bean sauce and Preserve Meats. Sadly there was only the sausage Chinese preserve meat. Also the pork spare ribs was on the soft side and has a gravy with black bean sauce which I didn't really like the way it was cooked. There was some crispy rice on the bottom which was great. Maybe we chose the wrong Clay Pot rice and next time I will try something different. But I really think they should have other preserved meet other than just the Chinese sausage. We were a little bit disappointed. . We also have their Quail soup which was really great and I loved it. The price point was reasonable and also there was a really nice Quail inside the soup. This was a great choice for the night. . It is quite small inside. They do have a clean restroom to use. Had a wonderful lunch here, came in on a Saturday and it was busy but we still managed to get seated quickly. We ordered the Catfish Porridge and the Clay Pot Rice with Chinese Sausage and Ribs (with an added egg on top). This was such a great portion size for two people. The porridge came out quickly, be prepared to wait a little for the Clay Pot. The flavors for both dishes were so nice and clean, felt healthy and not overly greasy or anything. They make the soy sauce well balanced. And we got the frog, the Chinese sausage, and the ribs, all really great. Next time, I would definitely stick more to the ribs and the Chinese sausage. The frog didn't have as much flavor. This place is really small, and it does take thirty to forty minutes to make your rice. But as per usual, because if you know anything about hot rice. They make the rice and the vegetables and the raw meat all fresh inside the rice. So it's very typical. But, yes, this place does take forty minutes. When it comes to clay pot rice, there's a few things that makes it good: the fragrant rice, just enough heat "wok hay" to give a nice rice crispy at the bottom, and the "special fragrant soy sauce". We were quite disappointed as this place lacks these three soulful elements to their clay pot rice. It's just an ordinary plate of rice cooked in a clay pot. Sad. Between the four of us, we each ordered a different clay pot rice. - the meat were rough and rather tasteless (not marinated / or not marinated well). In order words, not enough prep work in making a good dish. - for the Chinese sausage pot, man, the sausage pieces were paper thin and so slim pickings. it's almost embarrassing. - the sparerib with black bean sauce one was bad. Came here with my cousin after a long roadtrip around 6 pm. Place was quite packed but we got seated after 10 minutes of waiting. A whole restaurant devoted to Chinese soups? So up my alley. They have quite a large menu of soups so while I tried just one, I am eager to try more. I came with my parents and we shared 1 soup and 2 claypot rice dishes. My pick for soup was the hog stomach with gingko. The soup was lacking in flavor. The broth itself didn't taste like it was made with sufficient quantity of bones or meat to really flavor the soup. I still appreciated having a restaurant serve this dish. This is the kind of soup that your grandmother or mom might make at home, with humble ingredients such as pig stomach, and would never otherwise grace a restaurant menu so for that, kudos. The rice dishes were fine. The Preserved meat with taro had both lap cheong (Chinese sausage) and lap yuk (preserved pork) with cubes of taro and steamed broccoli and you drizzle a delicious seasoned soy over it. While the rice does get crispy on the sides and at the bottom (if you let the rice sit for about 5 minutes before diving into it), there wasn't enough flavor to the rice, even with the small bowl of soy sauce to douse all over the rice and toppings. The ratio of toppings to rice was a little off, and I think a better house-made soy-based sauce (like dark soy sauce or sweet soy sauce) would have added more flavor to the entire dish. What we had was good but not great. We ordered some skewers, vegetable dishes and a herbal soup. While the size of the chicken wings (skewers) was big, they were just OK, much like the other dishes and soup. Service was good. The portions here are pretty large and it was good enough to share. The ratio of rice to toppings was well balanced as well. This place gets packed really quickly so if you miss the 11:30 opening time it's hard to get a seat. Restaurant is small, only like 7-8 tables. You would have to wait 1-2 hours if you arrive around 12 pm. Saw so many yelpers leaving great reviews, I just had to come and try it myself! I was feeling tired this whole week because of jet-lag so I was feeling something hot and soupy. The herbal soup was perfect for the situation. Ordered the ginseng with black chicken soup, spare ribs and Chinese sausage casserole, water spinach, and for dessert got the steamed egg with ginger sauce and taro sago . This hole in the wall is a small restaurant specializing in Chinese herbal soups and Cantonese clay pot rice. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant. With a small interior, the wait can be decently long especially on a cold day when a hot bowl of soup is most comforting. My party of 4 ordered 3 soups, 3 clay pots, and Choy Sum veggie to share. Four Mixed Herb w/ Black Chicken: 3/5 this had a strong taste of herbs which was a bit too much for me but the black chicken was tender and meaty Ginseng with Black Chicken: 4/5 this wasn't as strong in the herb taste and tasted decent Chingbuliang with Old Chicken soup: 5/5 this was my favorite because I love the fox nuts and dried Chinese yams in this traditional chicken soup. I grew up eating this and it did not disappoint Pumpkin w/ Preserved Meat 4/5: pumpkin and Chinese sausage was good and the rice got very crispy on the edges which I liked Salted Fish w/ Ground Pork & Tofu 4.5/5: this was my favorite clay pot dish, but there wasn't a lot of salted fish as I hoped. It was okay ground pork and tofu, but it tasted really good. Curry Chicken 2.5/5: the curry was bland and extremely thick. It came with a generous amount of curry but unfortunately there wasn't much taste to it The Choy Sum was good and very flavorful with small slices of garlic. Overall a very solid spot for traditional, comforting Chinese soups and good clay pot rice. I would come back again if I was craving chicken soup or clay pot rice. read more
