Booked this place all with my wyndham rewards points. Each night was about 22,000 points. So, I basically got a free weekend here. It's a beautiful resort. Massively large, intertwined by a gold course. Multiple resort style rooms to the right. Check in, and their bar and grill and shop and offices are straight down to the end of the road. Check in was relatively easy. Was given incentives to sit in on a time share meeting the following day. Was told there would be non alcoholic drinks and food (turned out to just be candy bars and mints) there. Out room was really big. On the 2nd floor. Each building has 8 rooms. 4 up top, 4 on the bottom. And 4 buildings made up an area. Nice little grass courtyard in the middle. And there were well over 10 areas. So again, a big property. We had a one bedroom resort apt. Including its own kitchen, which had a stove, an oven, a washer and dryer, a dishwasher, sink, toaster, microwave, and full-size fridge. There was bar seating on the kitchen island as well as a full-size dining table, which could easily fit 6. Pull out sofa that becomes a bed, several seating areas in the living room with a nice TV. There's 3 bathroom sinks in this place!! 2 in the master bedroom where the double soak in tub was as well as a private bathroom where the toilet and shower is located. I love the layout!! Also, a nice outdoor seating area too overlooking the parking lot. Here's some of the pros and cons of this place: Pros: 1. I love the room!! 2. Ac/heater unit worked extremely well. 3. 85 degree heated outdoor pool. 4. Gym was pretty nice, used it a couple times 5. Amenities- shuffle board, basketball courts, pickleball tennis, kids area, bbq and grill picnic style area, golf. Just so much to do 6. Floors and walls are sturdy. No creaking or moving or divets. 7. Less than a 15 min drive to downtown. 8. I love the fact that you have the option to buy groceries and prepare it all in the room without having to eat out every night. Cons: 1. There is a time share presentation. They said you have to be there for 90 min. Mines turned out to be 3 hrs. But they were super nice. And I had a great time talking to them. Their definition of food will be made available is mani candy bars and mints. 2. Unfortunately a Karen and Ken (next door) called the front desk on us because we were too loud on our first night. Which put a damper on things. But they checked out the next morning. It was only 1045pm. Like chill...... and we were loud for like 10 min. Calm down Ken and Karen. Front desk lady wasn't too nice about it though..... 3. Phones in the rooms are not functional at all. Took me a good 10 min to figure out how to pick up a call, while it was ringing all loud. 4. Sofa bed and pillows are not comfortable at all. 5. Had to buy some bath salts for the jacuzzi tub. Don't offer a service if you don't have the items to go with it. Minor inconvenience, since Walgreens was 4 min away only. Overall, though, it was a good stay. I liked the resort feel. There's lots to do there. So close to shops and restaurants and downtown.

We (Province Golf Club of Maricopa) came here for the 7th Annual Eddington Invitational Golf Tournament. The staff here were very organized. They had us checked in, assigned us to our carts, briefed us on the rules of today's tournament, and had us tee'd off on time at our designated holes. The course was in pristine shape. Everything was green from the tee boxes to every fairway. I wish I took pics. After the tournament there was a buffet set up in the pavilion. I wasn't too impressed with the selection of food provided. We had a choice of bbq pulled pork ( it was alright), bbq chicken (processed chicken that looked and tasted like microwave chicken slathered in bbq sauce), pork n beans, cole slaw, and cookies. Lemonade (tasted like water) and iced tea were served. Overall, the tournament was a huge success. I didn't win nor place, but it was a nice tournament to thank Mr. Eddington and all of his efforts to coordinate with various local golf courses and schedule our weekly golf outings throughout the year. The five stars were for the golf course itself and the outstanding condition it was in! Until next year; hit'em long and straight!

I was in town to run the nearby Mesa Marathon. I booked a 2 night stay here using Wyndham Reward points. Upon arrival, it was nice to see that they recognized me as a VIP owner. Everyone that I met during check-in were all very nice and friendly. However, I wasn't really given a choice whether or not to attend an owner update. I would appreciate being asked if I want to attend instead of it appearing to be obligatory. The carrot or reward was yet another member's property directory. They sweetened the deal by throwing in a gift card for about one hour of my time. I agreed to it since I wasn't in a rush to go anywhere on Sunday morning. After getting that out of the way, I headed over to my unit. Along the way, I found the golf course, resort grounds, and my assigned unit to be very clean and well maintained. I found everything in my unit to be in good condition and in working order. The only thing missing was a sponge for the kitchen sink. Not a problem since I wasn't planning on doing any cooking for this short trip. Now for the very much unnecessary owner update, it was done on the second floor of the clubhouse. There seemed to have been a disconnect. Perhaps it was because this was a Shell Vacations Club resort. The representative that was assigned to me was given no details about my ownership. He was asking me basic background information until I stopped him to let him know that I was a WorldMark owner at the platinum level. I just didn't want to waste his time as I wasn't at a place to purchase any more WorldMark credits or Club Wyndham points. Oh well, this has to be the worst part of being an owner... these incessant useless owner "updates" where they try to get you to buy more credits or points. If there is an actual update, just tell me about it in an email.

TV wasn't working. All those wires under the TV I had to unscrew and then rescrew them in to get cable to work.

Ok. I am receiving emails and physical mail already from Club Wyndham. Had to do a pre screen optout to stop them from sending me more marketing things- do not call the phone numbers- they ask you for your SS#. Are they kidding me? Tried to call the 855 number left on my review and it rings and then HANGS UP. Do not stay here. Ever. I cannot believe this. I had the absolutely worst stay and now you want to sell me something. Stop.

Don't expect a TV in the room as they are absent. If you just wanna relax and catch up on your sleep or read a good book with no noise to be found, this is a place for you. The 7 mile dirt road to the resort is very scenic and you are likely to find burros along the way. Definitely need some kind of suv for that part. Expectations were modest at first--especially after navigating more than seven miles of unpaved road to get there--but any doubts quickly faded upon arrival. A palm-lined driveway led us to the welcoming lobby, where we were greeted with chilled floral tea and genuine hospitality. From the very beginning, the atmosphere struck the perfect balance of grandeur and warmth: magnificent, yet unpretentious and inviting. The natural hot springs were deeply restorative, while the farm-to-table dining exceeded expectations. The onsite farm flourishes with seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices, all of which elevate the dining experience. Activities are abundant, including golf, yoga, biking, hiking, pickleball, archery, horseback riding, swimming, and even wine and mezcal tastings. Castle Hot Springs proved to be an extraordinary retreat--one that combines relaxation, adventure, and exceptional service. We left with plans to return in the winter. Highly recommended.

Finally, a balcony had good seating area and views. Fair warning, they are building some free-standing casitas that will one day be part of the hotel. They look like residences and will be real nice when available. Anyway, some have complained about noise but we didn't notice. You just have to look past / over them for the real view. Didn't bother us. The free breakfast in the lobby is a must. Lots of options and everything we tried was great. The views from the patio are remarkable. The Canyon Suites also have their own private pool that is relaxing with great views, cabanas for rent and good food and beverage service. The cabanas were nice, accommodate up to six, have a mini fridge, tv and full bathroom with shower- fancy! My only complaint, which doesn't change my rating is there is a bar in the evening for just a few hours (til sunset?). The hotel is surprisingly affordable for Scottsdale, clean, well maintained, and has a ton of character. Unfortunately, there were also several things that left me wondering if time is beginning to pass this Scottsdale icon by. Our room was nice, but it stayed consistently around 76 degrees until the middle of the night. Why? Because there appeared to be a single vent pumping out just enough cold air to rival a household fan. I don't need my hotel room to double as a meat locker, but in Arizona, I would at least like the option. Also, being woken up by a leaf blower each morning as the wind whipped around the crevices of the door... yeah, not enjoyable. The pool was nice enough, but surprisingly small, crowded, and the water was hot. For a Scottsdale hotel with the reputation Valley Ho carries, the entire pool experience just felt a little dated and cheaper than I expected. We also paid $400+ for our cabana, only to discover the safe didn't work. At that price point, I expect every amenity included with the cabana to function properly. Now for the absolute bright spot of our pool experience: Alex! Alex was THE MAN. This dude strutted around that pool serving patrons with a smile and a full heart. My wife, our friends, and I were genuinely excited every time we saw him coming our way because his customer service was impeccable. He was personable, attentive, funny, and made us feel like he genuinely wanted us to have a great time. Give that man his flowers. Overall, I understand why Hotel Valley Ho is such a Scottsdale institution. There's history, character, and plenty to like about the property. But between the struggling A/C, questionable soundproofing, small and overcrowded pool, hot water, and malfunctioning cabana amenities, the experience didn't quite live up to the reputation. I don't regret staying here. My wife and I still enjoyed our weekend, and we made some great memories with our friends. I just think the Valley Ho experience sounds a little better on paper than it actually delivers in practice. Would I stay again? Possibly. Would I request Alex if I'm sitting poolside? In a heartbeat.
