The receptionist rejected our stroller with a baby sleeping inside and screamed their space is too small to accommodate a stroller (i think it is against law to discriminate family patronage). So we had to leave with the sleeping baby in the stroller and go to another more friendly restaurant down the same street. If they could not even accommodate a stroller, how could they even accommodate a wheelchair and be ADA-compliant? I have already reported this restaurant's violation to NYC Major's office due to its violation to Open Restaurants Accessibility Requirements. The government will do something on this illegal restaurant very soon. NEVER visit such a rude and illegal place. NEVER! read more

One expects their food to soften a little bit in transit, but in this case there seems to have been an issue with the batter that was used to make the dish. Very decent Sichuan food in UWS, right down the street outside of the subway station, convenient location. Ordered fish fillet in roadbed chilly oil, which has a great taste but not super overly spicy. It's mixed with mushrooms and clear noodles, a little bit different ingredients than other places I've been to. The "Zhong dumpling" dumplings in chilly oil, is not spicy which is a little bit disappointing. The beef and tripes old appetizer is a must try. Right on point. The dan dan mian noodles hit the SPOT on a rainy summer afternoon! They were not very spicy, but sufficiently flavorful. Ordering for takeout in person was simple and they had hand sanitizer available at the counter (a small but meaningful touch these days in my eyes). At the time during the last weekend of June, they were not offering outdoor dining. I hope that changes. My piggie self would've absolutely ordered more food after finishing my small noodle meal based on how delicious and comforting the taste was. I'd also like to see if the noodles were small because many dishes seem to shrink once in to-go containers versus original plating or because it's considered an appetizer and not at main. I can't recall at the moment, but I do know this felt like a solid choice for Sichuan flavors if in this area. read more

One of the more authentic Chinese/Szechuan restaurants on the Upper West Side. Been here a handful of times. Some of the dishes that I have tried during my various visits include: Cold mung bean jelly in spicy sauce (川北凉粉): I order this cold appetizer at pretty much every single Szechuan restaurant that offers it. The mung bean jelly here are cut into fairly large strips and topped with a spicy garlicy (and slightly sweet) sauce. Not the best version that I have had, but they were alright. Hot and sour fish and tofu in stone pot (石锅酸辣豆花鱼): to call this "hot and sour" is probably a bit of a false advertisement, as there's not too much sour in this dish. It is fish filet and extra soft tofu simmered in a spicy sauce and topped with chopped peanuts/scallions. The dish is served boiling hot inside the heated stone pot and is a real crowd pleaser. One suggestion I have is for the ginger used in this dish (there's a lot) to be chopped finer, as many people (including myself) likes the flavor of ginger but do not enjoy chewing on it quite as much. Beef in spicy broth (水煮牛肉): one of the Szechuan classics. Sliced beef with napa cabbage cooked in a spicy broth. The "broth" here is mostly oil, and the restaurant's own twist to this dish is that they add cumin to the sauce, which is unorthodox but actually tastes quite nice. The beef has a bit of chewiness to it, but is still quite tender. Chongqing spicy chicken (重庆辣子鸡): diced chicken is breaded and fried, sauteed with dry red peppers and onions, and topped with white sesame seeds. Their rendition of this dish is very nice, and I especially like the extra toasted white sesame seeds, which gives this dish an extra layer of flavor. A slight numbing from the Szechuan peppercorns, combined with the crunchy coating of the chicken and fragrance from both the chili and the sesame makes this dish a real delight. Overall, restaurant offers a diverse selection and is a great option for Chinese food in UWS. read more

Very authentic Sichuan cuisine on the Upper West Side. I often order from the cold dish selection. My favorite is their "beef and ox tripe in chili sauce", but their beef tendon is a close second. I've also gotten the pork belly, sliced beef with cilantro, and "famous Sichuan pickled vegetables". All very tasty and authentic Sichuan food. If you don't like spicy food, then I'm afraid this place is not for you. Their dan-dan noodles and "Szechuan-style green bean noodles" pair nicely with a cold dish. They have quite an extensive menu, so I certainly haven't gotten close to trying everything, but I look forward to. This place should be ashamed of themselves! The first time I ate there back in 2017 I got so sick. There's nothing like throwing up shrimp all night. Very painful! Unfortunately it was delivery so I had no idea they had a big C health score on their door at the time. Even tho they now have an A health score, I tried them again a few nights ago had the worst sweet and sour chicken ever. They even left out the pineapple! The chicken was dry and had an old leftover texture and taste. However, the chicken in the chicken and broccoli had a nice fresh texture but the sauce had no flavor. Finally the price of over $30 for this meal made no sense. There are top restaurants in New York that charge less. The good news is nobody got sick this time. Smh. Came here for a quick meal and ordered their Kung Pow Chicken and Mo Po Tofu for dinner. The service was usual and their dishes were delicious. Both my friend and I were very satisfied and felt the portion was a good amount. I esp enjoyed their Mopo Tofu because it was season perfectly. With the right amount of sichuan peppercorn seasoning and sauce, it brought the soft buttery tofu to life. The chicken dish was also tasty. The chicken was tender and matched well with the mixed peanuts. The sauce wasn't too overwhelming or watery so it tasted perfect when eaten over rice. I've been a fan of Legend 72 and the Chelsea branch since they opened. No more. Service and food at 72 is now mediocre at best. SERVICE: I reserved a round table in person 4 days before a dinner for out-of-town guests. Upon arrival we were rudely told that others had reserved them. So we had to sit in the cramped front section. For the whole time we were there a round table was empty in the back. Abysmal service. FOOD: Pea shoot casserole with minced scallops and egg was delicious. The shoots were lightly cooked and still had texture. It was downhill from there. Soup dumplings were obviously pre-frozen and arrived at room temperature. Beef short rib on a sizzling plate was at room temperature (plate was cold - no sizzling) with gloppy Chinese carry-out brown sauce. Shameful. Lemon squid was tasteless and rubbery. Peking duck was both greasy and dry. Pan-fried noodles with seafood (liang Mian Huang) featured soggy (not crisp) noodles, tired seafood, and light brown gloppy sauce. Dry fried green beans had NO taste of Sichuan pickled vegetable (an essential for this dish) or Sichuan pepper. Likewise their previously delicious kung pao chicken came with yet another gloppy sauce and had zero 'mala' flavor. The food alone would probably rate 2 stars, but with awful service, it rated one star. Sadly I must now recommend avoiding this place. read more

I always pass by here on the way to/from work. I've searched before and saw the average star rating. My friend has been there a few times and recommended us meeting up there for dinner. Such a shame on the low stars (and why you can't always trust it) - because it was amazing! We ordered: Mapo - which was delicious! seasoned so well and spicy. Tofu melted in your mouth. It was just overall one of the best mapos I've had. General Tso Chicken - personal preference but I love when its a bit crispy, which it was. the flavors of the actual brown sauce were amazing and sits high on my list of favorite generals I've had. As for spicy, it claims that it is, but I've had spicer. Shrimp fried rice - another great dish! Dan Dan Noodles - full of flavor and spicy! just how it should be.
