My husband and I had our second visit at Legend for lunch. I have to write a comment because the food we ordered was beyond our expectations. Since I am a huge beef noodle soup fan from Taiwan, I decided to try their and the other order was the dry spicy chicken. When the food arrived and we saw this red color soup in front of us, we could even smell it, I knew we were in good hand~ The soup reminded me of home and most importantly, my husband loved it though he is never a fan of noodle soup. The chicken was spicy with really good flavor as well. We had to take the rest of food home and I gotta say, it is the best to enjoy the meal there instead of heating it up at home. We had out third visit for lunch again and we took our time savoring every dish. Comparable to Chelsea location! Finally a decent Sichuan chinese place in the UWS. Quality is similar however the recipes are slightly different. DISHES: Pork w/ garlic sauce is one of my wife's favorite appetizer. Very good. Wish it had the cucumber slices that Chelsea location includes. Smoked pork w/ leak is one of my favorite dishes. Pleasurable as always. Chongqing chicken with chili is very solid staple. We love the Chelsea location and the staff is great. However for similar quality, I'll give up the hike and enjoy a much closer location. We will be coming back many times. Not sure why it has so many 1 star reviews. read more

This place should be shut down. Bad food, way overpriced, terrible service. I got food poisoning after I ordered. The bathroom is filthy, the restaurant is dirty ( I was given an unclean fork with fingerprints & food stuck on it. ) Worst of all is the manager Mary, she is an extremely nasty human being with no concept of customer service, treats customers rudely. If you want a Chinese restaurant where you can be friends with people who run it, just go there. The servants there are super nice and helpful, which is not common for many Chinese restaurants in town. The landlady is really easygoing and would always recommend something great for you to try if you don't have an idea. If you are from China and you miss some of the special dishes you once had in your home country but are rare here in the States, just go here. One of the best Szechuan places in NYC. I don't know what is up with Yelp but when I searched for Szechuan restaurants, there were many on the list that were not Szechuan style. Number two on the list was in fact Indian food. I cannot imagine why this restaurant has such a low rating. This restaurant is Duri authentic Szechuan food. Any time I've been there of the clientele is largely Asian college students. That should tell you that the food is very good. They also serve hot pot here. The decor is actually not bad for a Chinese restaurant and there's even a real bar and wine list. But the thing that I come here for and that I keep going back for is the hot spicy authentic Szechuan food. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. read more

Hot pot in the UWS? SCORE! My friend, his gf, and I came here for dinner because another friend recommended this place to us. For $30 a person, it is AYCE hot pot (excluding shrimp). They provide 2 broths, spicy and regular fragrant. The spicy one was spicy since it was filled with szechuan peppercorns. The regular broth wasn't that flavorful. It's cool how the place is AYCE for hot pot. THey come by and fill the pot with more water when necessary. The servers also come by and ask if we want any addition veggies, meats, seafoods, etc.. This place is okay. It's not great, but for the UWS it does serve its purpose. read more

This is the worst meal I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant in New York City in 30 years. The noodles were all cut really short, like 2 inches or smaller, in a sauce of grease, and the portion was crazy tiny. Just really bad food and crazy expensive for our neighborhood. I keep hoping for the best when I order take out here, but each time I am disappointed. I ordered cold sesame noodles two months ago; the dish was as dry as a bone - no moisture at all. Tonight, I ordered Singapore rice noodles. When I brought it home, I was very disappointed and angered to see that the dish was just steamed, without any flavoring or sauce whatsoever. Singapore rice noodles are supposed to have moist curry sauce. This had nothing on it. Great place! Now I have a go-to-spot for Chinese on the upper west side. We were on a tight time frame for getting lunch on a Saturday and so I walked up here rather than ordering delivery. The food was ready in less than 15 minutes and was of really good quality. Though I picked up, I saw enough of the dining room to want to come back. We ordered shrimp fried rice, beef with broccoli, and a build-your-own veggie mix of tofu, broccoli, green beans, and pea pods. Also got both white and brown rice to go with the meal and both were great! (I am a rice snob!) Wanted to get the $8.95 lunch specials but (as is often the case) they were not available on the weekend. Shrimp fried rice was perhaps the best dish of the three. They used large and tasty shrimp instead of the small canned stuff. Entrees were all very good but not 5 star quality. For instance they used canned/minced garlic rather than fresh garlic for the sauces. And the vegetables were not as vibrant as they should be. The prices were about average for NYC. Snow pea leaf is good. A bit too salty and not enough garlic but still worth a look. The sautéed chicken with deep fried ginger, peanut and sliced chili pepper with a bit of schezuan peppercorn is excellent. I ordered with extra garlic. Started with the Szezuan pickles. Not a bargain but average in price. Problem is this is only cabbage carrot celery and red chili that is lightly pickled. This is NOT Szechwan pickle. Oops. Would like to see the Szchewan dish raw shredded potatoes in vinegar and oil. Overall a good find and plenty to ponder. read more

Ok so, first off, I'm not from NYC. I drive your bus and I'm here from Canada. My group of kids went to the Met and are walking through Central Park to meet me. I have been double parked in my 45 foot tour bus for 2 hours and start getting hungry. See that there's a few options around me and decide on Legend 72. Boy, am I glad I did! I called the restaurant and asked the girl who answered the phone, "Do you see that big white bus across the street?" She says, "Yeah" I said, "I'm the driver for that bus and was wondering.... If I order some food, can you bring it to me in the bus, please?" Sounding a bit confused she answered, "Sure..." I ordered the fried pork dumplings and Kung Pao chicken. Other yelp reviews said this was the best Sichuan in the city so my expectations were a bit high maybe but.... Good? Oh hell yeah.... Best in the city? I don't know about that. The dumplings were top 3 of the best I've ever had though. They were really something else. Big bonus points for bringing the food across the street to my bus though. That was very cool of them. Really used to like the place, but the quality and the consistency has gone waaayyyy downhill. Got a shrimp with broccoli - Its drowned in broccoli, with hard white rice on the side, and a sauce that is exactly like brown water. No taste. The shrimp are tiny. Its not cheap - but food trucks have better quality and flavor than this restaurant. I feel like the prior cook / chef would be ashamed if they tasted the fare now. It its good, its your lucky day... I can understand soggy steamed dumplings but fries? And FWIW i live a few blocks away. And it's not exactly cheap. 3rd try. When just opened, a bit hit or miss. Second time it was all pretty good, my only wish being a slight tweak - including cloud ears, tofu, &/or tiger lily buds, as is "classic". This time followed some of the local reviewers' tips & tried the chicken chongqing ("new style Sichuan") as well as some old favorites: crispy orange beef, spicy cold noodles, and hot & sour soup. The chicken was amazing and different - crunchy, zingy flavorful, divine. Lots of chicken too. Orange beef very flavorful & well-spiced. Not crispy but still delicious (maybe healthier too). Hot & sour soup, B+, as described. They have 2 types of cold noodles, normal & spicy. I went with spicy. Thin/wiry with definite zing, but no sesame sauce- equal good but different. So I'm coming out of mourning the loss of so many Szechuan/Hunan, Vietnamese & Thai offerings in the UWS though still need to travel for most options. Definitely will explore their offerings more - and if they stay around they may actually become.... legend! read more

Yesterday was our first time eating in the restaurant since before the pandemic though we did have delivery several times. Everything we ordered was delicious and happy hours goes until 8 pm! The staff is very kind. We were happy to go to the restaurant rather than ordering delivery and, while delivery food is very good, it's better to eat it in. We regularly order delivery from here and it is always super fast and consistent. Went there once to eat in and everyone was friendly with fast service. It's not fancy, but the flavors are just right and they actually deliver what you order, even if it's a special request. Have been disappointed with all other Chinese in the area and gave up trying. Every time we order takeout we get something different. Our order doesn't change but the food does. Our general tso's chicken came with no sauce. It was literally breaded chicken tenders with broccoli. We called to ask about it & we were told to send a picture & that because we requested white meat only our order was indeed correct (in their opinion). The lo mein was bland and seemed old. Had a solid delivery meal from Legend 72. The moo shu chicken was large, though there could have been more chicken. Nonetheless, it was satisfying. The dan dan noodles, while seemingly hard to do poorly, was very good. The spiciness was on point, and the flavors were classic. I was also very happy with the BBQ ribs since the meat fell right off the bone. The one item I might not get again is the steamed pork dumplings; maybe it's because we ordered delivery, but they seemed over steamed and did not have too much flavor. Great tasty and as authentic as you can get in this area. Best Chinese food for a person who crave for Chinese cuisine once a while. My favorite is Dan Dan noodle, which I would like to order take out on a weekly basis. The Mapo Tofu is awesome with just right level of spice. I'm getting grease on the keyboard because I felt so moved to write this review I didn't wait to finish my meal. I got Legend 72 delivered to my office tonight, a rainy Friday, at 7pm. The food arrived 25 minutes ahead of the expected window, hot and delicious. I ordered hot and sour soup and szechuan tofu with pork. The soup was so good--each bite added to the slow white pepper burn, the eggs were paper thin, plenty of enoki and wood-ear mushroom. The Szechaun Tofu came with large beautiful mushroom slices, fish cake slices, tender leeks, and huge, sumptuous pieces of bacon. The sauce was rich, salty, and umamilicious. (If anything, it was a little too rich--the layer of oil on top of the sauce is what kept my meal from being a 5-star experience) read more
