    Hummus & Vegetable Wrap
    Serena X.

I ordered for a crew of 8 working nearby, including myself, and was unbelievably impressed by this place. I only tried the hummus wrap and awaze tips panini - both were spicy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. I seriously think this is one of the top 5 restaurants I've been to in the DMV area. The owner is so kind, as she even helped me carry the to-go bags to my car. If I lived closer, I would come here all the time. Please support this local business, it is so worth it!

One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Meeting Mrs. Beth was like meeting a long lost relative. Nothing but love. She is the nicest owner I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I've never had Ethiopian food so I was a bit anxious with selecting what to eat! Mrs Beth recommended I try the kifto panini and awaze tibs and let me tell you.. after my first bite of each of my sandwiches. I just stood up and gave her a hug. They were both out of this world delicious. I simply couldn't believe what I was missing from my life. Mrs. Beth seemed overjoyed by my reactions and she insisted I try some treats on the house and so I did and everything was just marvelous. I'll sit through 270 traffic any day to come here! This place is a must try!

Lemon Slice Cafe in downtown Silver Spring is a gem! Piping hot, delicious soup, a vibrant and accommodating staff, and scrumptious sandwiches make it a must-visit spot.

I decided to try this place after reading all the great reviews. Plus it's in the neighborhood and I felt like taking a little walk. I wanted to try the vegan breakfast wrap that people are raving about and It DID NOT disappoint!! The wrap was sooo good. So much flavor. It has scrambled tofu, mushrooms, tomato, onion and avocado. Even if you are not vegan, you will enjoy it. I also had a side of potatoes that came with a delicious aioli dip. I also dipped the wrap in the sauce too because it was just too good lol. The potatoes had a nice amount of spice, I don't know what seasoning was used but it was perfect. I am already looking forward to having this wrap again. So good!!

    new spot for lunch!

THE BEST PLACE IVE BEEN TO IN A WHILE! First of all as soon as you enter the cafe Mrs. Beth greets you with the sweetest smile ever. she asked if it was the first time and gave us a menu in hand to look at and recommended a few times on the menu. She came over and checked on us a few times and made sure we had everything we needed! The chicken pesto panini was delicious that pesto sauce had so much flavor! I tried some of the kitfo panini and WOW I can't even describe the flavor except explodes in your mouth and wishing this pace was closer to me! I traveled all the way from frederick for this and I promise you it's worth the drive. The Awaze Tibs was out of this world i should've ordered more than one. We dined in so they serve each panini with a side salad with a zesty dressing. This would be the go to place if i had one nearby. She was so generous enough to let us try some of the famous lemon slice cake. She truly was a gentle soul like a friend who truly feels like family. Wish for nothing but success to her and the business. Mrs.Beth thank you for the experience!!!

    Breakfast Sandwich with bacon

It's a small cafe in downtown Silver Spring with outdoor seating and a few small tables inside. I met a friend for breakfast on a Sunday morning and between the two of us we had the breakfast wrap with bacon, home fries, and two breakfast sandwiches. My greedy friend enjoyed both of his sandwiches while I wasn't too happy with my wrap or the home fries. The bacon in my wrap was flimsy and the lemon slice sauce it comes with was overwhelming and without flavor. The home fries appeared flavorful and the server warned us that they were spicy but I tasted no such thing. Despite my not being happy with my breakfast choices I will absolutely be returning! The staff was so nice and helpful and the prices aren't excessively high like other places in the area.

Such a sweet little cafe. We arrived just after they opened on a Sunday and it was quiet with relaxing, ambient music playing. We ordered a sausage breakfast sandwich on a croissant and a veggie breakfast sandwich, both of which were so good. A veggie breakfast sandwich with spinach and mushrooms can easily go south but this was the best I've had in a long time. Whatever the marinade or sauce is is so perfect. We also ordered two coffees and those were great. I was bummed they didn't have an espresso machine but they offer to add cream and sugar to your coffee for you and that hit the spot for my usual vanilla latte. Plenty of indoor or outdoor seating, WiFi, and vegan options, this hidden gem has a bit of everything. The person working was incredibly kind and quick with our orders even though they were the only one working and other patrons were steadily streaming in. They brought our food and coffees to us at our table and since we had our suitcases with us, they opened the door for us and wished us happy travels as we were leaving. We loved this place!

Lemon cake slice. Dry and small
    Gina R.

Def def not 5 star. The lemon cake slice was super small and the cake was dry taste store bought, store bought tastes better, home fries taste unseasoned and they didn't send the spicy Mayo I selected online with it, the Turkey sausage tastes microwaved. I Try to be fair but this place has 5 stars on here and it's just not true. Everything cost $28 and honestly the taste is equivalent to a hospital or school cafeteria food. I actually was going to order lunch to have everything delivered at the same time, I'm so glad I didn't because it would have been a waste of money.

Wonderful food, music, atmosphere and friendship. We had a perfect day for outdoor dining and Lemon Slice was the perfect place to enjoy it.

It was awesome to see the diversity of the diaspora from the African continent (East and West Africa) the Caribbean/Latin America, and America all in one safe space enjoying themselves without the performative and obnoxiousness from others I would give them that. The Billy Holliday mural and the interior design has a nice sleek, New American vibe. My problem is the service, the cost, and the food although solid, I cooked a brunch the following day myself not to brag (scrambled eggs and cheese, friend potatoes with diced green peppers and onions) that was masterful in comparison to the gingerbread style big ole French toast and fancy "scrambled eggs and cheese" this spot has. The service charge was ridiculous as my mom's bill was 70 plus bucks for just the seafood shrimp and grits which was nice, a very sweet pre-diabetic lemonade, and bread pudding that was like bougie Georgetown prices with the dominant culture. I paid 40 dollars (Hairstylist from Baby Boy!) for French toast, scrambled eggs with cheese and lemonade. The food is nice and all but nothing to die for. We came for the vibe, culture, and atmosphere also, but we do prefer the chains of Dennys and I-hop if I am not doing the cooking which is most of the time. The server would dirty mack and take a while flirting with women at the bar and playing around with staff, and I had to give a clinical gaze with my glasses and hand signal for him to return. We did ask up front about service charge and gratuity included from the beginning but they have a very Southern slow pace here that I agree with others and I am a very patient man and notice that. It can take a while to get your checks, get change, just other tasks that you would think would be handled more efficiently. The place attracts the social media crowd, with professional pictures, the glitz, the glamor the Hollywood red carpet of the DMV, but the structural integrity of the pricing, service, and experience needs to step its game up in the worst way. We certainly see this place being a bit turned up and precarious in later hours. The closest parking that is reliable enough is the Safeway garage so it is not the most convenient, where as at least Matchbox has the Wayne and Colesville garages to park at and then enter. It was nice to support the Black owned establishment but it is a 1 and done spot. Majic 102.3 put in the hype a couple of years ago, but I found the truth, no thanks, it is a performative culture that still has that ole Georgia Ave. street culture.

Java Nation strikes a great balance between a welcoming café and a productive meeting spot. We ended up leaving before the live music started, which I regret because it sounded like such a nice touch. I'd definitely come back to enjoy that next time!

Unfortunately, my very first interaction with the restaurant completely turned me off. I called on **02/12/2026** because I couldn't make a reservation online and wanted clarification. The man who answered said the Silver Spring location is "first come, first serve" and does not take reservations. When I tried to ask a follow-up question, I was told he was on another line -- and then he abruptly hung up. If reservations aren't accepted, I'm not sure why a potential guest would be rushed off the phone instead of being welcomed or given basic information. First impressions matter, and this experience felt dismissive and unnecessarily rude. Because of this interaction alone, I've decided not to visit this location. I hope management takes customer service more seriously, especially for people reaching out for the first time.
