Delivery alone makes Lemon Thai worth the five star rating. It is one of the only places that I order from in Wellesley - they get from the restaurant to my dorm in about 20 minutes usually (even faster at non-peak ordering hours). I won't lie - when I was trapped at college during wintersession without access to a real kitchen, the delivery man and i became best friends. TO this day he brings me free drinks and asks me about my health, family, and how college is going - a surrogate father on some level. haha. Their Pad-See Eew is where its at. Lemon Thai is a bit overrated, I think - yes, it beats the dining hall food at the colleges in the area, but that isn't saying that much. It also gets another boost for being considerably cheaper than lots of restaurants in the Wellesley area. The restaurant is very homey inside - like you couldn't tell from the Comic Sans MS Signage - and is pleasant but fairly blah. The food is also pleasant, but fairly blah. This probably would have been a 4-star review if I had not lived in California or had takeout from that place in Arlignton, VA... But it's the go-to Thai take-out place for me and my brother-in-law when my sister has to work nights and leaves us to babysit her lovely children. It's solid Thai food at an outstanding price. The flavors are nicely complex (doncha just hate it when its just salty soy sauce and fish sauce?), often with lots of basil and a hint of lemon to brightenthings up. The Country-Style Pad Thai (lunch $7.50/dinner 7.95) or Crispy Chicken Pad Thai (7.95/8.50 are the way to go -- don't get the regular one; it's kind of bland. The Pad See Eaw (7.50/7.95) is nice, with a subtle sweetness in the flavorful sauce (but I don't think it is MSG). For the price, you get quite a bit of chicken and a few big pieces of shrimp. My brother-in-law loves the tartly delicious Tom Yum Soup ($3), but I prefer the addictive Tom Kha Soup with the magical flavor combo of coconut milk, galanga, and lime ($3). The B-I-L also loves the Hot Basil w/ chicken option in the "Creat Your Own Stir-Fried" part of the menu, and I'm always happy to help him out. The chicken is never overcooked and the vegetable not too overcooked. The Pad Kee Mao was just okay. It is usually my favorite Thai dish, so I have high expectations. I do appreciate that you can get brown rice or sticky white rice here instead of white rice for a mere 50 cents. (Editorial note: I think all Asian restaurants should offer the brown-rice option, especially if it is sticky brown Asian rice, which is so delicious you forget it is good for you.) Their "hot and spicy" is kind of mild for out Korean tongues, so if you want to kick it up a notch, be sure to tell them. My wife went to Wellesley for undergrad and she told me she used to order from this place all the time during her time there. After many years of just hearing about it, I decided to finally give it a visit today. She ordered her old time favorite crispy chicken pad thai and I ordered the Indonesian fried rice. We also ordered crab rangoons as appetizer. I didn't like their crab rangoons. The texture of their fillings was a bit watery, not creamy. I liked their pad thai...I didn't think it was that great when I first ate it. It tasted just like any other pad thai that you would get..however when i ate it again after we had the leftover to go it tasted freaking bomb...I think you should let it get cold and eat it...tastes so much better that way in my opinion! My Indonesian fried rice was also the same case. Nothing particularly awesome about it, just your everyday regular Indonesian fried rice. Lemon Thai opened sometime my Freshman or Sophomore year of college at Wellesley. It quickly became a late night staple for all students on campus. It's one of the few places in town that delivers and offers sizable portions for very reasonable prices. The Country Pad Thai is one of my favorites- the chicken is fried and comes with a sweet/sour/spicy dipping sauce. Something not on the menu that we used to order all the time is the Indonesian Fried Rice. So much goodness mixed into one huge platter. Also the thai iced tea is a must. It helps wash down all the sticky rice and noodles in your system. Although I graduated in '05, I've been back to visit friends and cousins on campus. When I went back in '07 for a visit, I saw the SAME delivery guy waiting at one of the dormitories and he looked at me and said, "hey! long time no see, you didn't graduate?" I went to Babson, which is next to this place, so I ate it all the time. The delivery guy, Freddy is my best mate now. Hardly anyone eats in here, but it is probably the busiest take-out place in Wellesley. Tofu pad Thai is greasy, sugary, and pretty darn tasty. They have a good peanut dressing for the salads, and the curries are ok. Unless you go to Babson, Olin, or Wellesley, there's no reason to trek to snooty Wellesley for Thai foods. read more

Lemon Thai has a place on the very short list of things I miss about the suburban yuppie-haven known as the town of Wellesley. Amid the shops selling couture baby clothing and $700 stationary there stands the restaurant that carried me through many a night of studying and proved a faithful and reasonably-priced alternative to dining hall fare throughout college. My experiences with and standards for authentic Thai food are perhaps nonexistent, but LT always hits all of the right spots on my American palette. I haven't had better Pad Thai since moving to Somerville (not even from the Lemon Thai that's coincidentally down the street from my apartment)--the Country Pad Thai, Crispy Pad Thai and scallion pancake are especially good, and the Thai iced tea is really yummy (although I seem to be the only person on campus who never got any free delivery swag). For those who aren't a big fan of noodles I would recommend the Beef Macadamia (the name is pretty self-explanatory) or the Chicken in Love, which, in addition to having an awesome name, is comprised of crispy fried chicken served in peanut sauce. read more

Huge servings and lots of flavor! Used to order takeout from here all the time and I now remember why, more bang for your buck! Recently came back after 6 years of neglect, and we ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice, the Pork Larb, Chicken Larb, Tom Yum soup, and Thai Iced Tea. Portions were generous, even the amount of pineapple in the fried rice was plentiful. We couldn't finish the larb because there was so much meat. The soup was as awesome as I remembered, flavorful and with large chunks of meat and vegetable. Mango with sticky rice we also couldn't finish, but it was so delicious. It's midterm/final times once again and you're sitting in your dorm at 9:00pm either lamenting the options in the dining hall or cursing life because the closest dining hall as closed two hours ago. Lo and behold, the savior that looms in the night, Lemon Thai's Country Style Pad Thai. Words cannot describe the amount of comfort I have gotten through the years from the food at Lemon Thai. They deliver after the dining hall closes and it's always an amazing feeling when half your floor gets together and collectively orders a haul that inevitably makes all the college stress eating worthwhile. The food itself is a bit greasy at times and while others will say that it's subpar compared to nearby Amarin, I actually enjoy Lemon Thai a bit more. Delivery is always prompt and the people that work there are incredibly nice. All in all, as a former Wellesley College student, Lemon Thai is an experience. I'll start off saying that I'm a far harsher critic of food than the average college student, and there are plenty of people who enjoy LTC. I'm just not one of them. As one of the reviewer before me has said, the fact that they deliver is one of the best things about Lemon Thai. That, and the cheap prices make it a good place to eat at. However, it's not particularly good cuisine, or even very good Thai food. I have ordered appetizers, soups, Pad Thai, fried rice and curry at LTC. Here are my thoughts about each of them: Appetizers: One of its stronger aspects. The crispy rolls are flavorful, the fresh rolls are very good with the sweet peanut sauce, and I adore the golden triangles. The crab rangoons are good in moderation--since they feature a lot of oil and cream cheese, rather than crab. Soup: Terrible. Simply terrible. A few vegetables and shrimp swimming in hot water with no flavor other than a generous dollop of hot sauce. Speaking as a soup lover, I declare it a disgrace. Pad Thai: So-so at best. Tends on the greasy side, and has the propensity to give you indigestion. I have no idea what the previous reviewer means by "perfect balance of flavors"--all I get is sweet grease with an aftertaste best described as "unfortunate." Fried rice: The pik pow fried rice is my favorite, although I could probably whip up something equally tasty and more healthy, had I the ingredients. It's flavorful, slightly spicy, and has a good rice-vegetable ratio. Curry: Pretty bad, considering. I bench my curries against that of a lovely little restaurant in Boston's South End, and this does NOT compare. Instead of a rich, flavorful thick stew of coconut milk and curry spices, I get a watery yellow liquid. Instead of finely chopped vegetables, I get chunks that are both unappealing visually and that lend nothing to the flavor. My favorite place in the area for thai. We order the golden triangles and panang curry and are never disappointed. I always get a little frustied when places charge extra for white rice (I mean come on, who eats curry without the rice?!) but we like the flavors so we'll let that slide. The texture of the tofu is pretty good and they give you TONS of it. We've never eaten in, but always seems to be a steady flow of people in and out. Lemon Thai is my very most favorite restaurant in the whole wide world. Let me start off by recognizing that it's not fancy nor is it going to be the best food experience you will ever have in your life. However, there is something about this place, probably a mix of delicious food and good memories, that makes me crave Lemon Thai at least a few times a week. Their food is SO. GOOD. While a student at Wellesley College, I ate there at least once a week, usually more, which says something about their affordability. The way they make their crispy chicken (that tops their Crispy Chicken Pad Thai and their Indonesian Fried Rice) is really unique and really delicious. Not overly breaded or fried, just the perfect amount of crisp. Both of those dishes are favorites for my husband, and for almost everyone else who I've taken here. For appetizers, I love their chicken wings (fried wings with some kind of crack-infused flavoring that makes my mouth water) and their Tom Yum soup. DO NOT OVERLOOK their Beef Thai Noodle Soup. The soup base for the beef (which is different for chicken and pork) has incredible depth of flavor, and I have never ever been able to find a Thai place that even comes close to replicating this perfection. One of the highlights of my time in college was Lemon Thai. Since I've been out, the past 8 years of my life have been incomplete and sad without constant Lemon Thai accessibility. Lemon Thai is a great place for decent food and a reasonable price. Although it is not the best Thai food I have ever had, its pretty good and the portions are huge. I got it delivered, it took like 30 minutes or so, the delivery man was very nice, and my food was hot and yummy. The dished here are not very spicy, even if the say they are, so if you're looking for a kick you need to tell them, and if it is dinner time be warned that the curries don't come with rice, so you have to make sure to ask, but its only a dollar extra so its not too bad. read more

A good way to satisfy that Thai food craving... Located in Wellesley Center, Lemon Thai provides traditional cuisine with good ingredients and nice portion size. The staff are helpful and the dining room is modest but tidy. To start off, we had the chicken satay which featured good portion of chicken breast with delicious thick peanut sauce and spicy cucumber sauce. We also had the fresh rolls which were quite good and served with a tangy dipping sauce. We ordered the pad see ew and pad thai. The pad see ew featured wide noodles with a nice mild brown sauce and chicken and shrimp. The noodles were great and the chicken and shrimp were good. I like this place! It's friendly, the deliver guy is awesome (always remembers me), and it's a quiet environment if you want to eat in. Sure, the tables are a little close and you can easily ease-drop but it's not rowdy or bright. It's comfortable and casual. The food is good - hits the spot! I've yet to really be disappointed in anything I've gotten. It's a little more expensive than the other thai place (by the Whole Foods) but it gets major props because there's no snobby woman at the counter who is always giving me these weird looks and making me feel insecure about my thai food cravings. Just had a wonderful meal at Lemon Thai. Great prices, variety, service and atmosphere! We went to eat here at 8pm on a Friday night and did not have to wait for a table, although the place was filled with customers. One of the best parts is that you can bring your own bottle of wine for no charge. Other BYOB places sometimes charge a "corking fee," but this place does not. Score! The mango friend rice is great, soups and salads are tasty, and my husband always gets a duck dish and they are always fabulous. The tofu dishes and appetizers (crab ragoons and spring rolls) are great too. We left there stuffed and our bill was only $35. Best of all is that we didn't have to wait in line or deal with Wellesley's crowd. Parking right out front and bring your own wine. What could be better? We will definitely be going back. It is nice to have dinner in a restaurant where you can actually hear the person you are dining with. read more

As a college student, I always order Lemon Thai late at night. I always order the pad thai because I can't get enough, though I wish I would try something different on the menu. When I was a vegetarian, I always ordered the tamarind tofu, which actually still is a favorite of mine. Because I order delivery, I can imagine some of the flavor is lost and tainted by the Styrofoam trays. It still is decent enough that I continue to order it but some days it tastes a little more funny than usual. None the less it still is a great place and I love the delivery guy. read more

Probably the best pad Thai (country style) I've ever had! I'm not sure what other reviewers meant when they called it bland, but there was a great balance with the tamarind, the peanut, the salty, the texture, etc. The fried rices are also very good. I think the bill for lunch was only around $18. I would return. the server kept the water flowing and the food came out fast (not too fast, which I am always a little suspicious of).
